Awful place… can’t believe they don’t have enough resources.in order for the student to be successful.

I finished my pharmacy assistant program at ABES College and got a job from my practicum already. ABES College makes sure you’re all set to be sent out for your practicum and well taught, it was enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend you to be part of ABES and start your success from there!

I did my online learning program and I can say it was very convenient for me. However, they had a lot of assignments and some unnecessary ones as well, in my opinion. The issue I had was with placement and getting hired. I have applied to a lot of places which all require some experience in the hospital. If you are driving they will place 30min, which is okay but is like 45min to 1hr20min with traffic for me. I did not get placed at a hospital but only a clinic, which lowered my chances of being hired at most places. However, my preceptor was an awesome teacher and I have learned a lot from her.

Last summer I made the decision to go back to school as a Adult learner. I have always been interested in Health Care so I looked into different careers in that field and knew Unit Clerk/MOA would be the right fit for me.

From the first phone call with ABES through to the graduation I knew this college wanted what was best for me. They interviewed me, provided guidance and helped me secure financing for the program.

Stepping into the college to learn was a amazing experience. They set out their expectations right from the beginning. The lessons and tests were easy to follow.

I loved that everything was included in the cost, nothing hidden or extra. The level of the teaching was top notch. Being taught by people who work or worked in the field was great. They brought real life to the course.

I think if you are looking for small class sizes. Excellent experience and professionalism you should look no further. ABES is the best out there.

I loved while on my practicum people would stop me and tell me they went Abes as well, and then we would chat only to discover they had the same group of professors.

Greatful for the experience I gain from Abes. I graduated working as a Unit Clerk. I have no regrets. I would pick them again.

Great school, I attended the fall 2022 intake. Such kind and wonderful instructors. The MLA program is amazing and very hands on. I would recommend this place to anyone who is considering the program. I’ve also meet amazing people during my time at ABES and still keep in contact till this day. Overall 10/10 experience you won’t regret it!

Thank you ABES staff for all your amazing support. From admission, I was guided and got all the support that I needed. The instructors are amazing, they are always there whenever I needed help with lectures and assignments, they are so kind and accommodating. My practicum placement was a superb and amazing experience, offered and accepted the job 2 days after I finished my practicum. Great experience, ABES College is a life changer! Way to go ABES! Thank You!

Great teachers who support you along the way. Provide you what you need to be successful in your career. My instructor made me feel like she truly cared about the outcome of my education.

The ABES program was a great experience for me and I’m glad I was a part of it. I was molded, trained, and enhanced in so many ways that I became confident as an MLA. My sincere gratitude goes out to ABES for being supportive and helpful throughout my journey. It is true that I have an extended family at ABES. I am sure that the experience and lessons I have learned from ABES will stay with me for a lifetime. It has also taught me how to be responsible and strive for excellence. I am extremely grateful for the wonderful opportunities ABES has provided me. Thank you and GOD bless

I give Abes College a FIVE STARS. As a newcomer in Canada, I feel like there’s so much things to learn & understand especially with the education system. I’ve been looking for school for me to continue my education. Then I heard Abes from my Dad because one of his acquaintance was an Abes Graduate. So, I emailed Abes College but got rejected at first because they thought I was applying as an International Student. But I didn’t give up. I called them and explained this & that… I’m so glad that the admin staffs are really accommodating and helpful. Shoutout to John Lobo for giving me advice and helping me set up my account. I highly recommend this College especially for the newcomers. To my MLA Instructors, thank you for being hands on & for sharing your knowledge and skills to us. Thank you Abes, I got the job right after Practicum.

This college has changed my career. The program was well organized to understand easily. Our Instructors were amazing. Special thanks to Rejeanne, Angelina, Harpreet, Jodi and Julie. They have taken me seriously when I was getting hard time to find a job as a fresher. But they did their best and I am working professionally what I dreamed for before staring DOA program at ABES. I highly recommend this college for all future students who is looking for the best college in the city.

I chose ABES to become a Unit Clerk and completely regret it. Not only have I been getting rejection after rejection for not being a candidate for AHS. I reached out to the school to see if they can help me, basically didn’t get the answer I was looking for. That I should basically apply for MOA positions. I don’t want to be an MOA making the same wage as a retail worker or server. My main career goal was to be a unit clerk. I was excited to go to this school after reading the job opportunity success rate with this school and I don’t see any success at all. I feel like now that ABES has my tuition money, they don’t care. Now that I have to pay back my student loan to work for a job that I never went to school for, I keep thinking I wasted my time and money for a job I can’t even get. I should of listened to my friends that took the unit clerk program at Sait or Bow Valley and were successful getting a job months after graduation. I been told after telling people my experience trying to get a unit clerk job and a lot of people say unless your school helps or someone that you know works for AHS, I basically won’t get in, since they only really hire internally. Every posting says I need experience how can I get experience if I just finished school? It’s very disheartening that I relied on a school to help me get my foot in the door for a career I gave my time and paid money for could care less. I still keep in touch with my classmates and pretty much my entire class has struggled to get a unit clerk job or their doing a job not even related to what we worked hard for. It would just be nice if ABES could help get your foot in the door with AHS.

Everyone is nice and very accommodating.
All the instructors were great especially Paolo and Abby. It is the perfect school for those who wants to switch careers and earn more.
ABES is a life changer for me, this school is the reason why I got back to working in a hospital again. I got hired as soon as I finished practicum.
21 November 2022 15:02
I graduated from ABES a year ago. I have my dream job helping others, and it couldn’t be more satisfying work. Just successfully passed the CSMLS exam for MLA. I couldn’t have done it without all the help and instruction I received from ABES. Great instructors! Excellent staff! They supported and assisted me throughout my learning. I highly recommend this education to anyone looking to enter a healthcare profession. Best learning experience ever!

Abes is a life changer! I was unsure what to take, needing a job change after 20 years, I had looked at many options and was so nervous! YES, going back to school can be intimidating, but when I went to Abes they helped me feel confidant and I was able to sit in a class and get an idea, talk with the teachers and find out if it was right for me.
Going back to school is a BIG thing and I was very nervous and was able to get all my questions answered and then some! Fantastic help with student loans! All the staff at Abes was extremely supportive and if your willing to do the work the out come is life changing! Show up! Do the work! And a Goal can be reachable and you will have a great career!
Thank you Abes for giving me a fresh start, I love my job and I wish I had not wasted one more minute in a job I dislike for so many years. When I could of taken the step years ago and have what I have now! A job I am proud of and truly love.
Lots of great new friends as well!

Thank you Abes

This is the most unprofessional and money gouging college I have ever heard of. There is no support and empathy for stressed out students. Their practicum placement employee appears to be abusive, as seen in the numerous emails from an acquaintance that I have read. The only thing you get from this college is massive Government debt.
20 April 2022 7:28
This was a great place for learning, they emphasize getting experience and teach you everything you need to succeed. They also provide practicums at reputable medical centers; I encountered nothing during mine that I had not already learned during class. Very dedicated teams.

I recommend them 100%

I am interested in MLA program, would anyone who have experience and studied this College share their sincere experience? Thank you.

I took the Health Care Aide training at ABES College. I have had a great experience with ABES and all the facilities that ABES collaborates with. I remember meeting with Amy Hall to register for the program. She explained the training thoroughly and helped me with Alberta Student Funding. My instructors (Carrie, Dana and Harpreet) were very helpful throughout my course. After I graduated, I was hired by 3 companies within a span of 1.5 months. Thanks to ABES's instructors (They suggested me to apply to the companies that have opportunities).

ABES’s Health Care Aide Training helped me to develop confidence and gain the knowledge required to work as a HCA. I have an Engineering work background from my home country. It was a big change. I wanted a stable job in Canada. ABES 's training helped me and a lot of my classmates get a secure job.
05 March 2022 22:22
The most unprofessional college that i’ve ever seen. Staff are not helpful and well trained (or they are just trained to make ppl’s lives worse and worst)!
I live in Vancouver. As my family decided to move to Calgary, i was interested to participate in MLA program. So i was in touch with them through email and have been asked to go there for the interview and Doulingo test. Surprisingly both could have been done online! But No problem! We went there on Jan 11, i did my test, next two days on Jan 13 they interviewed me on phone! At the end of interview the coordinator of the program told me that i am accepted but not for March but for July!
During all those emails, calls, no one had told me that i might take a seat for July. I thought, one seat is reserved until my results came up, AT LEAST!
If they had told me about July intake, i would not have talked to my manager back in Vancouver about my last day that would be on Feb 25!
It means, now i will be jobless as another person hired as a substitute!
They completed all documents, set a zoom call to prepare my documents for government loan but for July! I was almost in the middle of process to rent a unit in Calgary. These unprofessional team, are able to ruin your life forever.
Their actions towards applicants are so frustrating and inappropriate. They just need you for the money.
DO NOT TRUST THEM! Keep your money for yourselves, it is not worth it to pay these huge amount for all of these mess! Such a shame!
If anyone needs proof, please email me and I can send all of my documents to them to avoid further mistakes!

ABES. If I could describe my experience, I would say above and beyond excellent! Such a highly professional school and at the same time very accommodating, cooperative and kind. I enrolled in the MLA program, they offer the course about 3 times a year. I was initially applying for November however I did not give enough time for all the paper work and prerequisites (which is a huge requirement at any educational institute!). There are tons of applications that they receive throughout the year, yet their process is so smooth. In addition, they have professional and caring employees and coordinators that help walk you through the entire process. Despite them being so busy they never turn your questions away, always greeted me on the phone with a kind voice and answered all of my questions (I had millions). Jenny, a Program Coordinator, was always available during the course whenever anyone needed her, she would take the time out of her busy schedule to accommodate. ABES has other courses too not just The MLA program, so to handle so many students and endless inquiries is commendable. Especially to see them effortlessly address these questions with thoughtful consideration and good intent. Their energy is quiet infectious as well! For myself, it’s a huge deal to be an alumna of ABES where I worked hard and succeeded in my goals. I am immensely thankful for the opportunity at ABES and proud to be an ABES Grad in the healthcare industry. During my practicum, I was lucky ti witness how many thousands of people’s lives they’ve changed and every individual I came across from MLA to unit clerk to health care aide, every person greeted and asked, “Are you from Abes”? And when I would say, yes, people became even more friendly. They are a brand that you want to be associated with. They taught me how to become a thoughtful and conscientious human being before anything else because in healthcare field you have to first overcome your personal obstacles and then can you make a positive difference in someone else’s life…. Sometimes we only focus on developing “task oriented” skills through our learning experiences but at ABES, I had learnt that
emotional intelligence goes a long way and expressing kindness to others is an unequivocal skill. The thing is we all need a career - some are coming from high school and some of us are changing professions. I changed my profession and when I walked into Abes that first day, I was so nervous, I was broken yet they gave me hope, they moulded me, they renewed my lost energy. They gave me a new identity by the time I was done my course, I became a renewed me - the me I had thought I lost. This was possible because of every single person in the ABES team including my teacher, the program coordinator and more over the Director of ABES. When I met the Director, I didn’t even know it was her until my last day before practicum. That’s how down to earth she is! I was incredibly motivated by the Director’s words of encouragement before we went out to practicum. I followed every word she said and I thank her for that. It changed my life! I followed every word devoutly during my placement. Then with just three days of practicum left, I was offered a job at Calgary’s Foothills Hospital! One of the busiest and largest hospitals in the province. ABES paves a successful path for each of their student and helps the student stay on point. I was provided with every tool that I needed to go out there and make a living.

Learning at ABES was a wonderful experience. Being a mature student with family commitments, I found the staff and the course helpful and flexible to accommodate my needs and balance study and family life. My instructor, Ms Ana, (Community Support worker Program) was an amazing teacher guiding through the classes and assignments and also teaching practical steps as to how to be in the workforce. The curriculum was competent to train me with the skills needed to do well at my practicum and I secured my job during practicum itself. We had classmates from different walks of life and ages and we all enjoyed the teamwork we shared in the classroom. I also thank John lobo, the student enrolment officer and Ms Harpreet, student coordinator for all the support they gave during enrolment and along the duration of this course. I truly appreciate all the Director, admin staff and my instructors at ABES for giving me this opportunity and I highly recommend this course for anyone interested to join the social work sector and serve the community.

In 2019, my fiancée had changed our lives - and then ABES did it again!

Historically, I had studied to become a Healthcare professional but was not able to pursue that career when moving back to Canada.
Using the knowledge, training and experience I had; I attempted to find a job within a limited pool of employers that did not require certification. This led to long hours, still in the field I love, but with very minimal pay/hours to compensate. After years of struggling, I eventually moved on and finding employment in Auto Insurance. I was deluded, believing that I successfully crushed my passion for the healthcare line and have buried my past.

Fast forwarding back to 2019, I wanted to better myself and stop working dead-end jobs. I was tired of labour and very ready for a change.

My fiancée (who's experience in healthcare was like myself) had just completed the MLA program offered at ABES and she was hired with AHS - basically during her practicum! It was a huge boost to our morale and gave us a stable foundation to build upon. I was immensely proud of her success, and it turned our lives around completely. We started saving for our future again and were able to begin planning the next few years of our lives. On the heels of my fiancée’s triumph, I looked at going back to school, researching where I can get the training I want so I get the job I'll love. Two months later, life change - again. An ad on YouTube about a Unit Clerk/Medical Office Assistant program offered at ABES popped up while my fiancée was watching, and it started the conversation between us. I examined the program's details, compared with competitors, and realized this was a good opportunity if it pans out.

Returning to education as an adult was daunting but the Admissions and Advisory teams made it easy. They were very welcoming, gave me details and listened actively when I had questions. They helped with Student Aid and discussed all the options that were available to me at the time so I can make an informed decision. In class, the instructors were experienced, knowledgeable and took the time to help each student. They answered questions and involved in the success of their students - extra study sessions, study tips and tools, tricks for memorizing some of the material and reviews for tests. They were always available. I was very nervous about my typing speed. I started painstakingly slow, about 26 wpm, looking down at the keys, a single letter at a time. However, with daily practice (even 10 minutes sometimes during lunch break), I graduated from ABES with a recorded 71 wpm. For me, this was HUGE. At the start of Final Practicum, COVID19 had begun to spread worldwide. People were sick, people were scared, and no placements were available. Despite the adversity, I saw an emergence of heroism. Front-line healthcare workers continued to persevere. These included the usual professionals we associate as heroes - doctors, nurses, specialists, but also a quiet but unmistaken majority. Aides, phlebotomists, clerks, porters, screeners, administrative members, people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes filling the cracks and crevices.

Soon I was provided with an opportunity at a busy Medical Clinic. I was given support from ABES whenever I had concerns, questions, and outright fears. I followed the PPE training I received and successfully completed the placement. Just shortly after the clinic, I was placed on a Unit in the hospital that suddenly became the Covid Unit in the initial stages of the pandemic. Because of ABES, I confidently navigated the practicum and landed a job with AHS in the same unit largely due to the fact they were impressed by my training. I owe much credit to the ABES team for their preparations and direction which lending to my success.

Today, I work fulltime, my fiancée and I are now married, I have a baby boy and we are all looking brightly towards tomorrow. The ABES team does incredible work, each member of the team helps to build better lives. Change happens when you want it and for us, change started at ABES.

Terrible school. No respect for students, unprofessional, and no moral compass. Do not go to this institute. Save your money. Will be seeking legal action against ABES.
28 April 2021 23:07
Coming to ABES gave me a new career path and direction in canada after I was out of job.before I concluded the HCA program I had several job offers within and out of the province, It has been a roller coaster from back to back. Abes really gave us the good and solid foundation to face the world out there.
25 April 2021 6:32
I have a lot to thank the teachers and instructors at ABES for. They truly care about you and want you to succeed. They do everything they can to help anyone needing it. My dream was to be in Emerg, and they got me there! I highly recommend ABES, and still to this day stay in contact with my instructors! ️ I’m so glad I took the chance of a Facebook ad and met with them, I will never look back!

Got selected after a competitive selection process to ABES. Studied Unit Clerk/Medical Office Assistant Program at ABES in 2016. Was placed at Peter Lougheed Hospital and Genesis Physiotherapy for practicums. Got a job out of practicum. Working Permanent-full time at Alberta Health Services for more than 3 years. Thanks for all the support and training.
07 April 2021 18:02
3 months after l graduated from the Unit Clerk / Medical Office Assistant program at ABES, I got 3 job interviews, 2 job offers and now work as a Unit Clerk to the glory of God.

The instructors were dedicated, intelligent and understanding. They often taught outside the teaching box when providing practical exercises, presentations and tests to assist in preparing students to succeed in the real world. The Director always came into classes to encourage students and the courageous, dedicated Program Coordinator sent students out in March 2020. The reputation of the school precedes the certificate you get on graduation and you are able to work in any province in Canada.

If you need a change in career or are interested in a fulfilling career in the medical field, ABES is a great place for you to consider.
Thank you.

I had a great experience at ABES. Staff really want to see students succeed and they do whatever they can to help. I got a job right away when I was finished my Practicum. I am so thankful to Abes!
12 October 2020 11:25
Good days spent at ABES now leads to PERFECT days, living my life with good start of my career as health care aide, got hired during my practicum.thank you ABES:)
24 September 2020 2:47
I was officially hired during my second practicum! During my time at ABES I found myself a little more, as an indigenous woman I've always lacked confidence in myself and this world. I wasn't sure financially about my future for myself or my children but after attending ABES I am now working a great job with amazing people! I also feel like I can go even further with my education in the near future as the teachers and staff helped build the confidence I needed in myself when it came to learning! Thanks to the entire staff there! Much love!
26 August 2020 5:26
I don't recommend this college to anyone who wants to pursue their education. The cost of their program is insane plus staff are unfriendly and very judgmental. Please stay away of this college.
26 July 2020 5:44
Terrible school. Well, not all of it was terrible. If I could give it no stars, I would. The teachers were probably the only good thing about this “institution”. The schools directors and counsellor (one of them) were extremely distasteful in how they handled many incidents. I’m absolutely disappointed at my choice to come to this “institution”. I could’ve used my student loans somewhere else like an accredited university.
05 April 2020 14:06
I took the Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk class night class as ABES and it was awesome. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and I can honestly say the whole staff is passionate about the students and their success. Being able to take part in the night/weekend class was so flexible and worked really well with my busy schedule. I would highly recommend ABES to potential students. I had such a fantastic experience and I feel like they have really prepared me for the workplace!
29 March 2020 2:16
ABES is an amazing college! I took the Health Care Aide course here and could not be happier with the outcome. ABES is filled with compassionate and caring teachers and instructors who want you to succeed and help you at any cost to do so.
If you are looking for a hands on course, fast employment, and unlimited support look no further, you won’t be disappointed!
21 March 2020 22:26
I went to ABES for their MLA program this past year and had a wonderful experience. The instructors were knowledgeable and skillful and were really able to teach and cultivate practical skills for our future employment. They were kind and helpful and made learning interesting, and effective. The hands on training is unique to this program at ABES opposed to other schools. The practical training helps you to be so much more prepared for hands on work the moment you step into a lab. The 5 week practicum placements are really effective in helping you to be prepared for employment.
They are invested in your success and help you at every part of the process, start to finish. I honestly would recommend the school and the instructors to anyone interested in this program.

ABES is one of the most didicated school that always making it sure there graduates land a job. Teachers teach student passionately hands on, actual on classroom and in the fields, they will trained you and prepare you to the actual world of your choosen fields spiritualy, physically, mentally.

Going to ABES was the absolute best decision I have ever made. The HCA program was very in depth with amazing teachers. The practicum experience I gained was so valuable and taught me so much.not only about how to care for other humans.but about myself as well. I am extremely grateful for everyone I met and learned from at ABES College. I went to another college for an ACSW course before I knew that ABES was starting their own CSW course, had I known I would have done it at ABES. Thank you ABES for being the biggest part of my life changes I love you all and I recommend everyone I see worthy of the experience!
03 October 2019 3:52
Took the unit clerk mla course. Abes told me they had a ninety six percent hiring rate. Fact is lest than 30 percent of my class have employmen. The ones that do have full time.empoyment at hospitals work all over the city in casual position. The school is a stress inducing joke.
20 August 2019 4:44
ABES is the best college if you are looking for a quick short duration program to get a stable job in the Health Care Industry. After being laid off from their Oil and gas jobs a couple of my friends took Unit Clerk Medical Office Assistant Program at ABES and they currently work at the Foot Hills Hospital and Rockyview Hospital.

ABES college is a great school! If you want a career in health care this is the place to go. They have a great reputation with CLS and Alberta Health Services. They will give you everything you need to start in health care down to scubs to wear. I would recommend anyone to take a program here. The staff and teachers really care about students. They will help you reach your goals.
23 May 2019 15:45
Not a great experience at all, struggled to find employment after working hard to complete the program. Had a great practicum and despite my past experience with Lab work and references for the many, many roles I applied to at CLS as well as advising ABES of this, I ultimately had to relocate and uproot my family to find work out of Province which had a huge impact on my family.
If I could take back this stressful experience, as well as the student loan I'm still stuck with, I definitely would. I also did let ABES know of this and was told this would be passed along and never did hear back at all. I would consider another program and won't recommend this training to anyone I know.
20 March 2019 1:56
This was a very bad unexpected experience at ABES college. I informed front desk representatives about my pri booked appointment with one of the staff member. Unfortunately the staff of the college don't know about my appointment. After 25 minutes Some other guy comes with very unprofessional approach and try to give me a hypothetical examples about the students and course. He is not able to justify why they have 10 months course as other have 5 months. He try to give wrong information about one of the renowned college. Me and my brother were eager to study from ABES. But now I don't have confidence about their Educational standard or teachers. Becuase don't have an appropriate knowledge about the course as well as professional approach with a client.
