Alpha House Society

The organisation is an absolute necessity. I have more stability now than at any other time in my life.and I'm exceptionally grateful for all the support I'm given.

It's not easy picking up the pieces from a life full of trauma and then a long period of homelessness. I'm positive I'd be dead if I hadn't received the support of scatter-site community housing through Alpha.

I work for Alpha House, and I honestly can say that we as staff come in each day and do the best that we can do for the vulnerable folks in Calgary. All of us as a whole, come together as a team.
I would not work for any other agency in Calgary.

Alpha house is a joke, they get donations for housing but allow the tenant to be drunk, and leaving them on side of road in front of the house.

Alpha House is a specialized, "niche" shelter that houses some of the more challenging and disenfranchised of the homeless; specifically those people experiencing severe alcohol and addictions issues. As shelters go it can seem a bit "rough" (concrete floor and mats) but such is the nature of the business and the clientele. It is always warm; welcoming; staff is very professional and non judgemental ; there is usually food available. The residents are decent even when/if "wasted" and staff is incredibly patient with the variety of issues they experience. This is a unique place that serves a uniquely needy clientele.its often the only place these peeps have to go and they are received with love, care and professionalism no matter what their state. Even when drunk and "acting out" they are treated patiently, with care, and in a manner that ensures all are safe. Alpha House is a special place and its staff is uniquely suited to dealing with challenging situations.

Thank god for this place! So much suffering and no place but here and two other places for the addicted and downtrodden to go! It helps the police as well so that they can drop off said people when they cant take them anywhere.

Alpha House is a shelter for homeless addicts. It's the only one that you have to have alcohol or drugs in your system to be able to stay. However on that note they do offer programs that you can take in order to become clean and sober. They have many other programs as well to they have the encampment program which helps homeless people living in camps or tents on the streets, moving to a real place to live in apartment or Community living. When I was an addict and living on the streets I used too many times and I never had any problems with them so I do highly recommend them if you are a active addict living on the streets.

This place I once was very very defenceless over.even if I heard i e person say 1 negative word about alfa house it was on. I'd be all up in there face defending the staff about 10 years ago.but over this last lil bit things took a complete 360.especially with the staff. They're rude they have the nerve to sit there a d look down on my street family a feel they have have the right to tell anyone of them how they feel or what they think of that individual at that particular moment. You know think before you speak would be of one's best interest, because you know WORDS are really strong STRONG WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. I can't say I'm effectively actually far from it. Still working on my flaws as I will every day God gives me. All I can say about this place it ain't what it was when I first went there and it hurts my heart big time because I actually loved the place. Now.what could I say?

I use to work for Alpha house. My first day on the job I arrived to work and not one staff said hello or introduced themselves to me, not even the supervisor. I left this job due to poor supervisor support, so many staffing issues and lack of resources. Very mismanaged. Wish things would have been different as I was very much looking forward to working for Alpha House. The gossip and staff bullying is very prominent in this organization. New staff are not welcomed and often ignored and if things are disorganized they are often the ones blamed.

I never went into the building the staff were uncoordinated and appeared I'll equipped for an emergency as I was at the pizza parlour meeting my friend for supper and there was a poor girl that alpha house staff were trying to hoist into a wheelchair they couldn't lift her so i ended up doing it for them they appeared to be lacking training.

The staff here are incredible, true saints. Smells like roses, as you might expect. Friendly regulars.

What can I say.its a homeless shelter. However, the staff is amazing, very caring, and want to help you.
It's a last resort if you are intoxicated.you can stay there.shower there, get a change of clothes.they have detox upstairs too.
Sleeping is on Mats.with 24 7 staff supervision. Women and men in same floor but separated.
Can be rowdy.fights outside.but staff always around to de escalate
They have helped me in the cold winter months.now I'm sober for 7 months.so thank you!
