My drivers Ed instructor was great. The online portion was worthless. The videos are trash. You'd get more use out of just buying the Alberta Highway Traffic and Safety handbook. Just an excuse to charge more than the program is worth.

I haven't been in to the registry but I am glad to have a membership!
I had to get my truck towed closer to home and with having such a large and heavy truck, i automatically asked for a flatbed. Because of where it had to be dropped, a flatbed wasn't able to tow it. No problem! I get it! Safety & space is super important and I wont fault them at all.
Kelly called and let me know and worked hard to figure something out. Within 10 minutes I met the tow operator Bradley and he's a cool dude. Great operator, easy to talk to and definitely the best guy for the job.

Thanks Kelly and Thanks Bradley! You both got my long and heavy truck to its destination safely and really without any hassle:)

Road side assistance: Needed my car towed this evening. AMA did a great service call (helping me find an address.)
I had the pleasure of them sending Brent Erwin. He was friendly and professional. Brent explained each step in the tow and was fast and efficient. He took care to make sure we were informed as to how the processing was going to go and he texted when the job was complete. We could not ask for better service, he was exactly the person we needed for the stress we were feeling.

Given our cold winters and the possibility of vehicle issues, I always recommend buying an AMA membership. I use them at least once a year (towing/battery replacement/boosting/registry services), which usually more than covers the annual fee. I also find this location to be the least busiest in Edmonton. Parking abounds and is free.

Car broke down during the recent cold snap here in Edm. Wait times are at 69 hours. No problem. Booked online first thing on 21st for a pickup first thing onthe 24th. No problem. My pickup window has come and gone and now I keep getting the runaround. No commitment, no updates nothing. Called 3 times through the day. Very polite staff but just going through the motions. Non-committal, and no valuable updates. Very frustrated and missed my xmas eve repair appointment. I followed the rules, booked in advance, waited my turn and nothing. Waste of money.

I requested roadside assistance (flat tire) I was not in hurry as my car was home they gave me online appointment at the 1.52 am after 2 days, as they are behind in Christmas time.they let me awake till 2 o clock AM and when I called them they said sorry.we are behind.we cannot come tonight. It is that simple leaving people awake till 2 o'clock and then not showing up!

Waited in line to get registration renewed. They wanted to see insurance card which they never asked for before. When I went to get it. I had to line up all over again. Cost of membership is not worth it and it keeps going up every year

This is an update from earlier review. Created request on Dec 21st about 8am for pickup on Dec 24 at 5: 38am. After 30 hours past my pickup time, i called again on Christmas day for the 4th time and was given a noncommittal pickup of "today or tomorrow". At that point I requested a cancelation of my membership for full refund. After a bunch of denials, I persisted and they obliged. As she was processing my refund, she threw in a soft threat, that in the event I were to sign up again in the future, I would incur extra charges; not very professional. Later at dinner with friends, my buddy explained how he barely made it back from Ottawa. Got in at 4am and his BMW wouldn't start. Called around for a tow and was getting times of 3-4 days. He tried his Edmonton BMW dealership and they had it picked up with 3 or 4 hours.guess who towed it away? AMA! Prioritize your clients just as I expected.

Truly save yourself a colossal hassle and do not purchase travel insurance from AMA. They sell insurance for a company called Orion so it is actually Orion that you will be dealing with which somehow might become Global Excel Management. My wife and I ended up sick on our honeymoon to Argentina. A doctor recommended we wait 7 days to fly home because we ended up with ear infections. The troubles started from the get-go with agents unclear on how much we were able to spend per day that would be covered - we kept hearing different things. That didn't matter much because we aren't big spenders but actually? No agent was clear on that.

The next problem was getting the additional medical coverage that we would need for the additional 7 days we were going to be in Argentina. We got an automatic five days of medical coverage which left us with two days not covered (which would be our travel days heading home). Rocket science? Apparently. I could not believe the number of hours (no exaggeration probably at least seven hours on hold) I had to spend speaking with both AMA and Orion agents trying to get the extra two days we needed to cover the full 7 days. I had to fight tooth and nail to get those extra two days. Why? At the final hour we actually were permitted to buy the remaining two days of coverage but for some reason my wife's maiden name was printed on the policy. She was literally phoning Orion and AMA moments before we were heading to the airport requesting that they the last name to her actual accurate last name just in case there was any issue and we needed to use the policy. We figured better to have the actual last name than a last name she hadn't used in months.

Finally after we submitted all of our receipts we received an explanation of our reimbursement. Everything was covered but no mention of our $7000 flights. Nothing. We had been told repeatedly that they would be covered. When my wife phoned to inquire why the flights weren't mentioned after she was on hold for about an hour she was told that the agent could see the receipts, she had no idea why they weren't reimbursed and perhaps she should send the receipts again to the "appeals department" to ask for an explanation. She did. Over a week later after hearing nothing I phoned back and again was on hold for at least an hour and was told that the agent could only see the receipt for her flight so I should probably send the receipts again. I did. After not hearing back again for over a week our amazing travel agent (Kayton Travels) gave me the contact phone numbers for ombudspeople who help out in travel insurance situations. Within a couple of weeks of having these people investigate where our $7000 was for the flights we finally received our reimbursements. When my wife asked for an explanation from an AMA agent as to what went wrong and why the process was so horribly frustrating and messy she was told this was a 'one-off' situation and 'it won't happen again'. Explaining what went wrong by calling it a one off doesn't exactly explain what went wrong. AMA is wonderful at getting my keys out of my car if I accidentally lock them in there. When it comes to travel insurance tho I will never buy through them again.

Regarding their travel service ~ I booked a room online through the ama at a Coast Hotel and when I checked in I wanted my Coast points added and they said because I booked through (Expedia/news to me) I was ineligible for points. I was unaware that AMA is using a third party for this service and will never book through them again.

I went to get a foto id. This place is big and beautiful. Beside a Registry place to get an id, write learners driving test, road test, etc. There is also travel agency in which they also have luggage for sale. At first I thought it was for display but actually it’s for sale.
When I explain I was there to get a picture id she advised me of what I needed for picture id which I had. Then she asked me if I had a membership I said I needed a membership which I could buy for $120.00. I don’t drive that’s why I needed a picture id otherwise I would had an id.
I was told to go to a public registry for what she also give me a piece of paper with the ones near by.
The service was excellent but I don’t agree that in order to access this service I needed a membership. That’s the reason I’m only rating a 3.
Too bad all Alberta resident can not access their good services.
They need to think about the membership. Otherwise I might had become a client for their other services they offer like travel.
This is what happens with privatization too bad.

So due to a bank error which I proved to ama, they still want to ding me/ my bank with a $35 fee. Greedy
Escalating it up the ladder proves the same result and I'm told to go to my bank and get AMA's policy fee from them.
Sorry I'm not comfortable doing that for a digital inconvenience where your greedy fingers still want the $35.its amazing that you're willing to lose a customer over this.

There is a reason this location has such poor ratings. Check the reviews thoroughly. On July 6th, 2022 - my mom visited this location to renew her registration and had the worst experience ever. From the moment she walked in, she was heavily questioned by a staff member. The location was heavily populated but only my mother was approached and the staff member enquired as to why she was in the line and does she understand this is a place for "members only". My mom felt uncomfortable by that initial point of contact and she wasn't the only one. Others in the line noticed the bigotry and mistreatment and spoke up. This mistreatment continued as she was called up to the desk. She just wanted to discuss the strange point of contact. The representative did not care nor have concern for the issue so my mom requested to speak to a manager. Immediately, the representative responded " I am the manager". But, the name tag she wore was not labelled as manager. My mom noticed and mentioned her name tag says otherwise. Finally, she went back to get the manager. The manager wasn't concerned nor interested in hearing about my mom's experience, feedback or anything regarding the situation. A kind woman who happened to witness and be present the whole time joined the conversation. Right away, the manager exhibited decorum and professionalism. Obviously, no solution other than antics. This review is to advise those to beware and be prepared when entering this establishment. I hope no one has to feel and experience such contempt.

I have always found my AMA membership to be an incredible service. On my last visit, I needed help with archived registry documents and Emily was a star. Helpful and friendly both in person and in email. Awesome!

My Ukrainian cousin arrived in Edmonton a couple of days ago. We went to AMA & rec'd awesome service. He applyied for a AHC health card, an identification card as well as advice about the AB driver's license process for getting a commercial driver's license; the latter is not easy as you start from zero.
Thanks AMA for your help in making his difficult situation, leaving Ukraine, and experiencing Canadian (esp. AB) service & hospitality.

I went to AMA on 109 Street and Kingsway Avenue on October 1. I got my vaccine card printed up for free and I didn't have to show my AMA membership card. Very easy and very quick. The lineup wasn't long. You can even get all family members' cards as long as you have their AHC numbers. Then we went to Staples to get them laminated in a wallet -sized format. The first time we went the website had crashed. Things seem to be working OK now.

I had a road test here and I could tell right away the instructor was giving me bad vibes. She wasn't really friendly or very enthusiastic about taking me for a road test. She talked about how bad I did every mistake I made. I think I was marked very harshly because I failed by a lot and when I drive daily I never get tickets or get pulled over so I don't see how I could've done that bad. It seems like she wanted to fail me and like I wasted the money spent here because I feel I should have passed the advanced road test because I've been driving for years with no problems. There were rules she was telling me and I knew exactly what she was talking about so it felt like she had a condescending attitude. I would not come back here for a road test. I don't think the service is that great or friendly.

Called AMA twice since moving from Edmonton to Spruce Grove. At no point when I bought their Premier Membership for $177 per year did they worn me I would get inferior surface out of town. This morning was told a two hour wait for a tire inflate.
Spruce Grove, I've learned, is like an epicenter for industrial services so there are tons of repair services. I called a local company, Meadowlark Towing. They inflated the flat on the van, and I was on my way within 1/2 an hour of my call to AMA, who had assured me they could get there no sooner. I'm handicapped so sitting in a cold van waiting is never fun. You be the judge, is AMA worth the annual fee?

My driving experience was very relaxing and helpful. My instructor Moninder, was very clear with his instructions and made me feel comfortable while driving. I liked that the lessons prepared you for all aspects of driving and not just the road test.

The email reminder for registration, sales on travel items and membership service are big draws to having an AMA membership.

I had my road test on Feb 17,2021. My experience with my examinor was phenomenal. His name is Dimitri. This gentleman was extremely professional and very respectfull, patient, kind all of the great things. He helped me feel very comfortable before the road test since I came into my appointment 20mins early. He went over all of the silly questions I had and made me feel very comfortable. I would like to leave a review for Mr. Ron Vallette, the claims adjuster I have been dealing with since November when I was involved in a hit and run. Accidents are very stressful, especially hits and runs when the other party is not overly cooperative. Ron was SO helpful and I was able to go on with my daily life and leave everything in his hands. I will mention my boyfriend who was also involved in the hit and run did NOT have such an easy time with the claims adjuster at his insurance company. Ron gave me updates via email and phone. Finally the issue has been resolved, my car has been repaired (also thanks to Fix Auto North!) and I will receive my deductible back! What wonderful news! Thank you so much Ron for making what could have been a very stressful experience an absolutely breeze! What an asset he is to the AMA team!

I have been dealing with an AMA membership agent by the name of Sabrina. She works at the Kingsway branch in Edmonton. She has been nothing but phenomenal. With this cold weather and the fact that my membership not being fully paid til the end of this month. She got the people to put me on the list of members to be boosted. They weren't going to she thought it would be only fair because I've been a member for 6 years that they go ahead and do the boost. So im nothing short of so grateful to Sabrina. Shes my hero. I got a letter in the mail before Christmas stating I owed I believe $801 for auto insurance by December 22nd of this year, or it’ll go into collections.
When I went to AMA I believe in April, I went in needing auto insurance, the year before that I paid out in full since I have only a class 7. Because of COVID-19, I was told if I don’t have the full amount for one year upfront, I can do monthly payments and just pay whatever I can (Never got told this was a contract, I never signed anywhere stating I acknowledged this was a contract), so I agreed. And I asked in person while at the AMA centre what would happen if I didn’t have enough money for the next month, she said I could just cancel. So I said, okay!

Fast forward, my auto insurance pink slip says it was expired I believe September 6th or 12th of this year (don’t remember which date is accurate), but either way I actually called and wanted to put down another monthly payment. And I was told the COVID restrictions for auto insurance aren’t existent anymore and I would have to pay a whole year upfront. I called the DAY before my auto insurance was due and let them know I cannot afford one whole year upfront, and to cancel my membership.
To clarify things, I believe the lady was saying the 1 whole year would start whenever I can start paying it again. I was NEVER told “if you don’t pay, you’re gonna go into collections and owe us”, I told her to cancel my membership and apparently now the whole AMA team is fighting against me and saying I owe $801. I HAVENT BEEN DRIVING SINCE MY MEMBERSHIP EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER. I haven’t even taken my son to daycare for those two months I’m supposedly owing, because I told them to CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP, and the lady who I spoke to the day before my membership expired acknowledged I wanted to cancel.

So why am I getting stuck owing you guys $801. I never signed any papers enlightening me that I owed for October & November. The letter I have states that amount is owed to cover up to November 8th 2020 which is apparently when AMA decided to cancel my membership. TWO months after *i* requested them to cancel and that I couldn’t afford anything more.

Very poor communication and nobody is trying to see my side on this issue at all. You can see I was a loyal AMA member and even paid a whole year upfront prior to me renewing before April 2020. So I’m not trying to cut corners or get freebies. I sat on my butt for those two months, not driving anywhere because I was under the impression I canceled.

Feels like you guys are constantly playing games with me. Angela and Genoa I spoke to on December 15th 2020 and Genoa was laughing at me being angry, so I hung up then Angela answered and said she would get it looked into.

Then I received a call today from Genoa at 3: 41PM, just for her to tell me I’ll still be in collections for not paying and the only “solution” I was presented was payment plans. Um? Excuse me? Does no one understand or even care about my situation.
I have a 3 1/2 year old son with autism and I cannot afford $801, and not only that, this whole miscommunication is not my fault, I feel the lady who signed me up in April had major tricks up her sleeve and fooled me into this mess. Well thanks a lot lady. I hope you guys enjoy your lousy $801 whenever you go after me for it, until then I will not be paying a penny of it.

AMA ripped me off big time and Genoa even said top management has looked into this and nothing was done about it except offering me “payment plans”. Lol. You guys are thirsty for money. Absolutely ridiculous.

Likely will be looking into taking action against them in a form of a lawsuit. Never have dealt with such terrible customer service. The only thing I wanted out of this was not to pay the $801 I never agreed to sign up for. Super unprofessional during a world spread financial crisis. You guys are taking money away from me

The Kingsway location is classy, roomy and very professional. I spoke with Ashwani and would highly recommend speaking to him as he is articulate, kind, patient and makes things very seamless and easy. Plenty of parking and very accessible. Not to mention fantastic rates for insurance. Please speak with Ashwani though. He is an excellent man.

So I went here today to get insurance. The art of hospitality needs an administrative change. Here is why. Upon entering there is the rude question of "Are you an AMA member"! I felt like I was a member of the wrong gang upon my entrance. It should be more friendly like "Hello sir or miss, how may I help you"? To further insult my intelligence CoVid Gestapo came and disliked my natural gaze at the hanging signs to discern what line I must be at and rushed me. It was nice to meet the professional staff who were helpful and made me feel welcome. So there is much contrast between the CoVid onsite police and the hospitable office workers to consider.

Aren't those low-risk customers who never make claims the ones you profit from? Hint hint, you don't retain profitable customers by increasing their premiums every year.

The service they provide here has always been very friendly, polite and helpful. You feel valued as a customer. You can come here for your DMV needs as well as explore their travel and discount perks and get your passport photos taken. They clean their counter surfaces in between customers and have physical distancing markers on the floor.

Upon arrival The service was great. The driver examination lady was very polite. But fast forward to the recording of the exam. (I recorded it). The girl.taking the exam was doing awesome in the recording. She expressed to her examiner that she was feeling very nervous a few minutes into the recording. The woman got immediately annoyed with the driver. She became aggressive and short with her words towards the girl taking the exam. She got out of my vehicle to take a picture of the curb the driver jumped but she unnecessarily slammed my door very aggressively and the camera fell. I have voice recording of her talking down and very rudely to this driver. This new driver who has been very confidently driving and made very few errors became a wreck under the duress of this examiner. People like her should not be sitting beside new drivers taking an exam. She will cause an accident. She is a terrible person who hides her true ignorance and self hatred until she is alone with these vulnerable drivers.

Avoid this place. I purchased an AMA Class 7 Driver Preparation Course online. I had to go through some changes in my life and did not have a chance to go through it. After 3-4 months, when I finally got ready to go through my AMA Class 7 Driver Preparation Course I could not sign into the website. When I contacted their Customer Support, I am told "Unfortunately, per the Alberta government rules: students have 120 days (4 months) to finish the Class 7 Prep course. It has been 4 months already since you bought it. You will have pay again to be able to use the online course you bought". Really? I even contacted Government to verify this 4 months deadline to be able to prepare and pass test is pure BS. This is a pure scam. Avoid this place as much as you can.

#1 Even if there is a deadline to access the online course after your purchase, why do you not clearly mention that at the time of purchase?

#2 If my online access was due for expiration, why do you guys not notify me?

Ripping people off their hard earned money at the time of this pandemic is just cruel.

Today march 16-2020 I had booked the class 5 advance road test at AMA Kingsway Location at 2: 30pm when I went there they check everything my vehicle and was everything ok, in the last moment examiner told me that front window was tinted so its not allowed so he disqualify me for taking the exam I ask him can I bring other can or change the date he said no book another test I don't know why they don't understand people have paid the money for give the road test from the same vehicle I have given the exam before but they did not say anything if there was any changes they should inform people when we book appointment it is really disappointing I think they are rubbing the people they using their power it should not be like this somebody really should consider regarding this matter some examiner are really miss using their power and government should enquire them why they doing I just lose my $130 without anything I never recommend this location to any of my friend have a look my report I am attaching this.thinks

I am so infuriated right now still sitting in my car in cold after 3 hours when AMA quoted me an hour estimated time. I don't understand why as a paying member, this is how I am treated. Called after two hours, they said driver will be here in 15 mins, 30 mins later called again they said another 30 mins. Promise means nothing to them apparently. I don't know how anyone can trust them.

Great staff, easy access and a good place for information on travel and insurance.
Getting your annual membership is great peace of mind if you drive, and especially great if you have younger drivers in your family.
There are some good discounts at partners for showing you AMA card as well.

Had a great experience there booking our Europe trip with Ashley Digiuseppe! She answered all our questions and seemed very knowledgeable and excited to help us book our trip. She was even willing to work with us a little longer than our scheduled appointment to make sure all our details were wrapped up nicely. She was especially knowledgeable when it came to our travel insurance needs, saving us money where possible. She was very kind and worked very diligently explaining things as she worked to find the best flights based on what we wanted. Overall great customer service. I would love to book any following trips with her or at least someone like her. She was a breath of fresh air and this was definitely appreciated after a few negative experiences at the West End AMA branch.
