What a great place! I’ve had a great experience every time I’ve come in. Chase is super friendly and seems like he really cares about his customers. He was happy to share his favourite flavours and what he thought I would like based on my preferences and food restrictions.
Building is clean and is decorated really well. I like that they try to use biodegradable packaging/utensils as well.
Love how this location has so many different options and a wonderful space for customers to enjoy their treats without being rushed out like pretty much all the other ice cream shops! But Amato isn’t just an ice cream spot, first it’s got endless flavors of gelato so it trumps all others. But they also have cakes, hot coco floata, coffees, affogato. The spiked hot coco floats are really something else, just incredible! Excellent service too! Definitely a spot I’d go back to again and again!
The only place I go for ice cream. Love Durian and Green tea flavours. The store put a cover on the durian flavour so the smell is only kept to itself. My brother is a keto and loves the low calorie options. Absolutely the best gelato in Calgary.
Absolutely love it, staff is great, Gelato is better. Never disappointed, there is something for everyone. And their dairy free flavors are so good and there are A LOT of options
Great tasting ice-cream, the widest choice of flavours that I've seen in Calgary. Decent coffee, much better that 99% of coffee available in Calgary, especially all those overhyped local "roasters". However their americano was what I would rather call an espresso, and their double espresso was more like a ristretto. Can only imagine what a single espresso would amount to - 1 ml maybe? But that's my very individual view tbh. Service was slow. Located in an obscure strip mall away from anything.
Bad customer service and attitude. Waitress has a very rude attitude in replying to customers. We were a group of 6 who decided to leave because of such kind of behavior.
This place has lots of awesome tasty gelato flavours. The disappointing part was the high prices (be prepared to pay $30 for a family of 4), combined with less than accommodating staff. At those prices, they could at least allow adding more flavours into each order. (They only allow 1 flavour for small and 2 flavours for a large.)
Um, hands down the best gelato place in Calgary! Very authentic, and my Italian friends are in agreement when I say this place knows Italian desserts!
We had the amazing affagato+gelato, tiramisu, and have tried some of the gelato flavors over the past few months. I, and my friends have nothing but great things to say about this place!
The service is great, and the staff is super-friendly. Amato Gelato has a very Italian vibe (for obvious reasons), and the carefully curated decor adds to the appeal. Unfortunately I don't have photos to post, because I dive right in when I get a dessert in hand. And that, my friends, is the proof of the pudding!
We were stopping this store because we were doing laundromat next door, thinking to get some food while waiting. Turned out the chocolate cheesecake was really good than I expected! Clean and big space for a dessert shop!
Great gelato with lots of flavours! Also has a lot of other Italian treats and drinks, would definitely recommend visiting in the summer. Cute decor/set up as well!
The flavours here are only okay and coupled with the rude workers who don’t even wear a mask when serving you the gelato this place is not worth your time. There are way better places for a sweet treat in Calgary where you won’t be at risk of catching something. Please continue to wear your masks even if you’ve been vaccinated, the variants are not a joke.
Really cute place with a huge selection of gelato and lots of other options as well. I especially liked their outdoor seating area, as the seats were surrounded by gardens and foliage. Great place for a cute date.
We were so excited to try the new menu additions: the gelato bombolini was such a disappointment though. The donut was stale and the ice cream we got with it (maple pecan pie) tasted quite “chalky”. It was such a disappointment as I brought a new friend here after talking up the place. The black sesame gelato I had was good, but overall we didn’t have a good visit.
My absolute fave! The only problem is they've added so many cocktails to their menu that now I have a hard time deciding what to order. On a hot day there's lots of time to consider your options while you're in line, but it's well worth the wait.
This place is a great stop for beautiful tasting treats! There is a bit of a wait, but its worth it. Great ice cream and treats! Tons of options to select.
Great authentic Italian gelato spot in Kensington! They have so many flavours and other desserts as well on their menu. I especially love their affogato! I will be back for sure.
Very good dine in, though don’t order it on Uber eats or skip, they have tons of options in store, ordering through a delivery service they only offer a small, pre packaged selection. Perhaps they should consider selling cups of all flavours for more business through delivery!
If I’m rating the gelato, I really liked it. I came in 25 mins before close and the guy in the red apron rushed me hard on what to decide on. There was absolutely no one behind us too. He just wanted us to GTFO, kept telling us to hurry up, it was mostly an unpleasant experience. I feel bad for the nice kid working for him.
Okay, first off I went there for the first time about a month ago and I have not stopped going there since. It became my favourite ice cream place and the flavors never disappoint. The staff is sweet and I always get a laughter with them. There's never a dull moment. It's a place I always look forward to go to. Will also go there in about a week again
I so enjoyed the hazelnut chocolate ice cream Frangelico hot chocolate float! The whipped cream is unbelievably think, enough to hold up the scoop of ice cream. It was a lovely treat on a cold April day
Amato gelato is the place to go for ice cream-like treats. Definitely deserves more hype than it gets when compared to Village or Made by Marcus. There are endless amounts of flavours and the staff are super friendly. Not to mention the outdoor sitting area in the summer is super cute. Would go here before standing in line at Village or Made by Marcus any day.
Really nice and clean spot! So many flavors to choose from! There is a cute little area for buying pints of select flavors! Welcoming atmosphere and decor. The gelato was thick and creamy. The lemon sorbetto (Not pictured) was very smooth and the flavor was like eating a lemon head, but better.
Great selection of gelato. Love the new look and the mini shop off to the side with food and coffee accessories. Rum and Raisin gelato is where it is at.
The closest authentic gelato taste you can get without booking a trip to Italy. They have lots of tasty unique flavours and the staff is super helpful.
They offer cups and you can get either and single or double scoop. They pile one flavour on top of another for a double scoop instead of side by side. They also have a LOT of gluten-free gelato options. Most don't have cookies, brownies or other wheat - based additives. I got the hazelnut and green tea flavours, both of which were delicious.
Cross contamination may happen with the scoops they use since it looked like they soak them in water between uses rather than having different scoops for each flavour. I didn't have any reactions, but I have a moderate gluten intolerance and not Celiac's disease so I'm not as sensitive as others.
Tl;dr lots of flavour options, possible cross contamination with scoops
