Stopped by for a quick business dinner at Amici on Friday afternoon. They were busy with an early family dinner crowd but quickly found us a table. Our guest was late but the Amici people reassured us it was fine. They grabbed our drinks and appetizers and checked on us but were not intrusive. Our guest showed and was in a hurry to get back on the road. Our entrees went into the kitchen and they turned us around quickly. Kara was an exceptional server. She helped with the menu and made excellent suggestions to help with tastes and speed from the kitchen. An impromptu business dinner turned into the discovery of a lovely, friendly and delicious new spot for us. Highly recommend Amici for relaxed, Italian!
Very friendly staff, extremely good food, lots of fresh- baked bread. I've seen reviews on the atmosphere but I didn't mind it at all. Some of it looks outdated but also feels home-like.
Amicis is a fantastic restaurant and a neighborhood gem. I don't want to leave a poor review as I have been a long standing customer and have been going here since I was in high school. I will say though on my last pick up order, I noticed two things, one of which I'm hoping was a one off scenario.
1. The portion sizes have decreased dramatically. I ordered the ravioli toscana and got a total of maybe 10 ravioli 2. The prices have increased by about 30% (yes, I understand food inflation)
Like I said, I'm assuming it was a one off situation for the portion size and will try it again before adjusting my star rating. Increased pricing + smaller portion sizes isn't a great look, especially considering there are comparable options out there for a lesser price.
The pizza at Amici was a delight. The soft chew, along with the crispy crust and generous toppings was wonderful. The only negative point I have about this place is that the decor seemed a bit dated, and with the dark colours, didn't feel like a comfortable place to dine in.
If you are looking for real authentic Italian restaurant for a decent price, this is it right here. They make pasta just as good as their pizzas, not like every other pizzeria. Hospitality was off the charts as well, they will make you feel at home. I recommend their tiramisu for dessert as they make it inhome!
Great service, food is good but over peppered. It desperately needs a makeover- new table cloths (or new plastic), new chairs, paint it a bright taupe to update it and brighten it. Otherwise I would return but most likely order take out.
It is actually really difficult to write this review because of all of the great things I have heard about this restaurant. Being my last night in Calgary before flying back home, I collected my closest friends to have dinner there.
We had a reservation 6 pm and was really excited for the amazing food, which the food was really great. But unfortunately it was the experience towards the end that has created this unfortunate experience.
We wanted to order a pizza to take home at 7: 35 pm and was instantly told, we have to check if the kitchen is closed, but we were able to get the pizza (because it was pizza) in the end- so thank you to the kitchen staff.
Between 7: 40pm and 8: 12pm we were feeling extremely rushed to finish our meals, desert and just enjoying the evening because it appeared the manager was in a rush to leave as soon as possible.
There was no communication that we had a time limit of any sort or we genuinely would have searched for a different restaurant.
As we were standing at the door inside while still waiting for another member of our group- the lights were turned off and we had a child with us!
Never have I been to a restaurant where the lights were turned off while customers were still inside the premises. That's what you do when the customers are gone.
A very poor experience and unfortunately, one that we didn't want to have with this restaurant.
This review is based on the service and not the food.
We had intended to go to another restaurant but their service was horrible and we ended up here. Got a table right away was able to get drinks quickly. The server was very friendly and attentive and was able to answer all the questions we had joke around with the kids a little bit. Food took a little longer to come out but that's because The restaurant was packed. The food was delicious my wife had the carbonara and enjoyed it I had the meat lovers pizza and it was awesome. They bring you a fresh baked bread with garlic butter and it's very very good
The host was rude and had no sense of humor, appeared to make us feel like we were a burden to her and even shouted at my mother and wife and to follow as she was seating us. It deffiently was a bad experience and hope the host tall lady with blond hair was just having a bad day! Will never go back there again! Food and drinks over priced!
The family operation is the reason I go to this Italian restaurant. The food is good. Staffs are friendly and work hard. I hope the weekday special will come back soon then I will give the 5 stars.
Excellent food, very well priced & we had a great server. Went on Valentines day so it took a long time to get the food, but understandable as they were so busy. Well worth the wait!
Disappointing.disorganized service and food was just okay. Been there for Valentine night and ordered valentine special. Took more than two hours, no soup, they chose a random side for our stakes because they were ran out of the side we want without even telling us and charging for the full special meal even though we could order the same from menu for half of the price.
We have been enjoying the food, atmosphere & staff at Amici since the day it opened over 20 years ago. It is our 'go to spot'. Family & friends have been treated to their varied menu items and always delicious food many times.
Food and service exceeded my expectations. I especially liked the fresh bread and the linguine. They have a huge menu and I look forward to going back and trying them!
The restaurant is getting pretty dated, the benches and tables more then a little worn down. But if you are looking for good food at a place that doesn't skimp on ingredients, this is the place! The service has been great the last few times we've gone and I expect we'll be back real soon.
That last post about the mouse droppings in the flour. I don't beleive that at all. We have been going there for 20+ years and have had great food and service. I know the owners, you're simply just wrong. If you have an issue I'm sure they would be happy to discuss any concerns you may have.
Would highly discourage taking delivery for DoorDash extremely slow and unorganized. Take into account an extra 15-20 minutes past pick up time at this location. Drive safe!
Stopped for dinner and it was delicious! Everything from the wine to the bruschetta to the pasta and dessert was amazing! Took me back to our Italy vacation, great atmosphere and service.
Dined in here a little while ago. Disappointed to say that it was only mediocre at best. The pasta was on the dry side and unlike every other Italian restaurant I've been to, Amici does not provide any bread. Service was almost nonexistent and the interior is quite dated, making the atmosphere not too comfortable. I would definitely pick another place if I wanted Italian.
I'm happy I found this Mom & Pop restaurant. The food selection is great. The owner comes to your table and makes sure your happy. I even saw him offer to help customers take their take out orders to their cars. The food is excellent.
Great food, service was very good as well. I had the spaghetti and eat balls which was good. Free bread.with you meals. This place shines with their in restaurant made dessert. Need to get the tiramisu
There is excellent service here and the food is great! Unfortunately there was something wrong with my food when it first came out (otherwise it would be a 5 star rating) but they handled it quickly and the service was so friendly and welcoming, I would go back again just for the service.
Local restaurant that I have gone to off and on for over 15 years. It’s not the best Italian I have ever had but it is good especially considering the suburban area it is in whee the restaurant choice are not great.
Every time I have visited the service has been great! The interior decor is nice and inviting and the patio is well placed with a splendid view of a large pond with ducks and geese.
The food is your typical Italian menu but we usually stick to the small dishes and appetizers for variety. The stuffed cannelloni smothered in bechamel sauce is very good, as is the the mussels in tomato broth with crusty Italian bread. The tomato with bocaccini is wonderful paired with escargot rissoto.
As mentioned, we do prefer the appetizers listed above, which we often pair with one or two of their proseco based drinks like the Royal.
Once again good place for a nice Italian meal a step above casual but not too fancy. Would recommend to family and friends hungry for quality and good service.
Amici's used to be our favorite place to order pizza but over the years the food and the service have declined to a point that we will not be a customer any longer. The people that take orders over the phone are extremely rude and definitely act like we are bothering them when we call. The final straw for me was last Friday we called in an order to be delivered, were told 40 minutes and we called 2 hours later to find out where our pizza was. Apparently they forgot to call the driver. So it was late, cold and we still paid full price, no apology from the restaurant or rain check on another order. I would give them a zero if I could.
The chicken cordon blue is absolutely delicious. They have two for one pizza (with purchase of a beverage) on Mondays, and the same for pasta on Wednesdays (both those nights can get quite busy and a little noisy so be prepared). Staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable ($25 for the chicken cordon blue, $18 for a medium pizza, etc.).
The pasta was very good and came out hot - it even stayed hot for a long time. The calamari was very good as well. The bruschetta was not that great - too salty. And the side vegetables for the entrees were bland. All in all, the meal was very good and our group enjoyed the atmosphere.
A bit on the pricier side. I was quite disappointed to learn there is no side that comes with a dish like most other pasta venues offer. There’s also not a dessert menu. Server was friendly though.
A good little spot. Food was delicious and service was fantastic. Though was expecting a bit more authentic Italian as we visited Italy not long ago. Though perhaps my expectations were a bit high but over all a great spot with really good food
When we realized that the restaurant was almost closed (we hadn't checked the hours prior to coming) we were sure the staff would be itching to get closed, but these guys welcomed us in and brought us our food very quickly. The restaurant itself is beautifully laid out with warm lighting and a very cozy atmosphere, and I definitely want to come back when it isn't so late!
The staff was nice and the food was delicious! Our waitress joked that we weren’t allowed to order dessert because we didn’t eat all of our supper. I love places that joke like that.:)
Monday and Wednesday daily deals are some of the best in the city. The pizza is very tasty and they offer a very wide selection of pastas, all of which taste fresh and flavorful.
Food was amazing, setting perfect for an Italian restaurant, service was lacking however. Order taken by waiter was very short, however cook was out to greet us and very cheery, other waiters good too.
However the original waiter snapping at my girlfriend for asking for the bill earned her a whopping 5% tip, which is a shame as the food was delicious.
Would be 5 stars if it weren't for the attitude we recieved after waiting 15 minutes for our bill!
Loved the veal Marsala! One of the best i’ve ever had! But ‘no substitution’ policy’? Really? Pasta is the biggest profit margin maker going? !
Regardless, I chose to spend the $$ and order the side of pasta. $20 extra for Fettucini Alfredo. It was horrible - especially for $20? Not even made with 100% real cream?
Today’s customer values customization? ! And if you are going to charge $20 for fettucini.making it with 100% cream might serve you well? !
Ps. Change the table clothes! Ragged.
Server was AMAZING! One of the best we’ve ever had! Wow! She knocked it out of the park!
We spend a lot of $$ on eating out. Not sure we’d go back. Marsala was worth it.server was worth it! No substitution policy? The pasta? The price of pasta? Ugh!
A group of 8 of us had dinner for the first time at Amici's on a Saturday night. We made reservations ahead of time. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. Loved the round table we were seated at. We ordered wings as an appetizer. Some of our guys who eat wings all the time mentioned they were a little on the dry side. We ordered a few different types of pizza. It was delicious and satisfying. I'm leaving one star off because I think that's customer service could have been a little bit warmer.
Pizza is excellent and the Thai chicken is our fave. The risotto on the other hand is disappointing. It is so full of pepper, oil and salt, it's inedible. It was the last dish I ordered here almost 9 years ago. Decided to try it again tonight as a family share dish and was disappointed to learn nothing had improved. Will stick to pizza if/when we come back.
Delicious, casual, server was very friendly. We went at 4pm on Thursday and it was very quiet which was good for my family. We had an appetizer, water and 2 entries with tip for $65.
