This is an old hotel - approximately 90 years - and it shows. It was great for 1 night, but I would not want to stay longer. The rooms are quite small, and there is an old building smell to the place. On the upside, it is in a great location close to restaurants, off-street parking, and a grocery store.
15 June 2023 7:42
Tiny bathroom and there was a smell the day we were leaving. King bed is really 2 single put together
03 June 2023 22:22
The food was excellent. Had the burger and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was considering the service. Would recommend definitely for the food itself.

Historic hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast in Papa George's restaurant was tasty and filling. Excellent pub downstairs with good selection of beer on tap. The pub grub is excellent. Excellent value for a Jasper stay.

Decent price for jasper. Good for a one night stay. Not ideal for families as there wasn’t enough room for our little ones playpen. Bathrooms are small & no tub. The room was clean but the floors were sticky (like they didn’t use the right time of cleaner). Staff were friendly! Overall an okay stay for one night.

We always stay at the Astoria when in jasper, such a lovely quaint place with awesome breakfast and dinner options, very accommodating for pets too.
29 October 2022 2:54
2 person rooms are very tiny, even by Asian standards. Rooms are neat, but there is no space to stretch or relax. Family rooms look bigger. Great location though.
06 October 2022 11:25
As most reviewers mentioned, it is OK for one night. Any longer will drive you nuts. They boasted about the history of the building, but they did not mention the lack of upkeep. You will find a table fan and a portable air conditioner in the room as ventilation. It's like a time warp back to the 70's. At least the mattress is soft enough. There are no elevators and you must haul all your luggage one floor up. While doing so, do NOT stare at the carpets!

Spent one night last week on a Thurs. Woke up with swollen gland after sleeping next to a wall unit a/c that sounded like a tractor. Old ACs need to be removed! I have been on antibiotics for 10 days now since staying there.basically has ruined my holiday.
26 September 2022 12:28
Wish I could have given 0 stars. Stop using COVID as an excuse not to clean the hotel room. The excuse given to us for not cleaning our room was “oh because it’s COVID we don’t clean rooms anymore”. Bathrooms were very dirty. Coffee maker was left unclean. Smallest rooms ever. Ice maker was broken, vending machines broken. Bathrooms were so small that you would die of claustrophobia. They don’t give a $hit about customer service.

The Astoria Hotel is Jasper's iconic boutique hotel with all the charm, character and exemplary service anyone would want or expect. It's central location is ideally suited to both vehicle and rail travelers with all the services readily available within walking distance. Staying here is like a walk down memory lane where all those you met greet you with a smile, a tip of the hat and a "howdy"

03 May 2022 16:17
An excellent ski trip to Marmot basin with a stay at the Astoria. Clean rooms, hot water sytem was functioning perfectly well during my last three ski trips this season. Excellent service, food, social atmosphere at the De'd Dog Pub (in dog beers I have only had one:) Efficient check in and out. Very convient central location. Excellent value. A comfortable, freindly place.
28 April 2022 12:44
The price/value of the hotel didn't align for what our room was upon arrival. There were also fees that were not anticipated with the booking that showed up additional to what was quoted.

Overall the room was dated, poorly laid out, cold and the view fr our window was of the dumpsters and a back alley. The hotel itself is run down and not well maintained.

The phone in the room did not work, there was no Netflix as stated on the website. The PVR did not work, the channel selection was scarce at best, the pop machines had no stock in them. When we asked for assistance from the front desk for help with the PVR, they advised us that they don't know why it's not working, offering no further assistance.

I would not stay again.
14 April 2022 21:20
Always great to come back to my home town and be able to spend some time at the whistle stop! Enjoyed pur food and drinks
11 April 2022 17:22
The room is clean, we were really like it, and it is really clean and the bed so comfortable. We have good time there.
The only problem is who work in front desk, when we need some supplies, also when we check out, the front desk people who work there never be polite. We were so polite talk to them, we even leave tips in the room. And the front desk attitude is really bad, anyway we will still like this hotel, but not the people who work there.
17 September 2021 2:50
Forgot to mention in my previous review. Room is furnished with items that were brought from garage sale or Goodwill store. The bathroom door is falling off the frame and you need to lift it by the handle in order to shut it.
16 September 2021 3:24
Place is trash, out dated smells, $200 bucks can buy you a nice tent

Way over priced, should be a 1 star. Place is trash. Owner is trash
11 September 2021 0:58
Awful amenities and beds are too small. Front desk agents were talking in another language when I was checking in. Before check in date I made special request but I got a reply which was unprofessional. I would never stay here again. I suggest people to better off in another place. They have no room on first floor no elevator to bring your luggages second floor. No cart to bring in luggages. Canada is free country and you can speak any language you want but front of customer speaking another language rather than English is rude and unprofessional. Also obviously the owner has guts to insult guest by saying stay at camping place. Seem this hotel doesn't have any etiquette for customer satisfaction.
07 September 2021 20:17
For almost $300 a night, there should be no need to ask for pillow toppers if two twin mattresses are going to be put together.that's just common sense. The remotes should be checked daily to make sure batteries are in place and working. AC units should be checked and functional when the rooms are being cleaned. The showers should not need to be rectified and my visit at the hotel for the one night should not have to be interupted for things that should be done between the cleaning and maintenance time between check in and check out. I strongly recommend to anyone that checks this place out, to not stay. The visit will not be comfortable for the price.
28 August 2021 3:03
Staff was super polite and helpful, their 24 hour front desk was great and they even helped us connect to the wifi.our room was clean and cozy with a huge tv and a comfy bed.however, there was a beetle in the bathtub, the bathroom was very small, and there was a huge gap under the door to the room.the location was also fantastic
27 August 2021 19:28
Room was tiny; Bathroom was outdated and had no tub; King bed was two twins pushed together and I slept on the widening crack all night; mattress was uncomfortable; View out the window was of rooftop mechanical equipment; AC didn't work; remote batteries were dead (yes, I could have called the desk for batteries and a new AC, but also why didn't housekeeping notice these things? Aren't they supposed to check everyday? The hotel I worked in did) ; fridge worked but the inside was cracked and it needed defrosting very badly; only good thing I can say is that the location was good.
26 August 2021 9:27
We booked here because they advertise that their rooms have air conditioning. Since we were traveling with infants, and going through a heat wave we thought it would be good to make the switch from a different hotel. When we arrived, the air conditioner was running but provided no more comfort than a really poor fan. We asked if we could switch air conditioners with another room since they were portable and we were told that since housekeeping had already gone home, we would have to wait until the next day. We got a second fan in the room, but it was still over 30 degrees. To top it all off, the room was completely filthy. There were dust mites in the corners, and my crawling kids' hands and knees were completely black. For $230 a night, I really would expect at least the bare minimum of service.
Also, this is not the hotel staff's fault, obviously, but it is located above a bar, so it got pretty loud at night and room smelled of cigarette smoke from people down below as well. If you're not a backpacker, you don't want to party that weekend, or you have children, I would recommend booking elsewhere.
We ended up booking at a different hotel and checked out the next morning, but front desk was nice enough to give us some breakfast vouchers, so yay!
25 August 2021 9:44
Receptionist was nice. Parking is opposite to the hotel and by the side. There are no elevators so you need some muscle juice if you have heavy luggage. We booked a room with king bed. But the bed was two twin bed joined together, so you know how it will feel when you rollover. But the worst part is the washroom. IT IS TINY! Too little for the money we paid for.
05 August 2021 3:56
Very good food the Canadian burger is always excellent great salad and lots of beer selection. Very good service to for such a busy place.
27 June 2021 19:18
Only benefit of this hotel is, it's in Jasper and near to evrythng. That's all. If you are planning to stay only one day or so this is it. But for longer days I don't recommend. It's quite and old place and rooms are very tiny. But still positive side is, it's in Jasper
10 June 2021 9:07
I loved my stay here. The staff was super friendly! The rustic decor is great and you can't beat the location. I will definitely be back!
27 April 2021 20:49
Great hotel with fair prices in a very good location. The rooms are small but quite suitable, very clean and welcoming. The staff is wonderful and welcoming. There is a restaurant downstairs and a pub attached directly next door. Would definitely stay again.
13 April 2021 5:22
Great location, cool historic spot. Great restaurant and bar in the lobby. But the beds and pillows are really sub par, making for an uncomfortable sleep. When you factor in next to no amenities in room, it's more crash pad than boutique hotel.
01 March 2021 12:43
Hardest beds ever. Bathroom really small. You could hear all the other people in the hotel talking. The train was going all night also.
06 February 2021 5:00
Pros: very clean and fairly quiet. Liked the breakfast coupon idea.
Cons: The rooms were fairly small and unfortunately our Queen room's bathroom didn't have a good ventilation system. The shower fits only one person. The view was facing the alley.

Overall, I'd stay in Hinton for less than an hour drive and much better service for cheaper prices.
04 February 2021 10:33
Astoria Hotel in the heart of Jasper was a lovely place to call home during my stay. In the heart of town all of Jaspers treasures are a hop, skip & a jump away. Rooms were cozy & service was top notch. I went into the shower feeling like Clark Kent & came out feeling like Superman. The hotel is attached to a wonderful restaurant with great cuisine & the De'd Dog Pub is an excellent spot to cap off a day of adventure. Humble Pie is the best way to explain it & probably the best value in all of Jasper. Astoria we will see you again in the future.

We have been staying here for past several years and we’re attracted to the location within town, everything is within walking distance. We don’t mind the small room and shower as for overnight ski trip it’s ideal
Thanks to the staff for offering us a loyalty discount for being repeat customers
20 January 2021 11:34
Walking into the Astoria you instantly feel like a King, or a young prince. Royalty. Within a matter of seconds we were greeted by the lovely staff and check in was a breeze. The quaint, cozy fun rooms kept us feeling peppy and fresh for the entirety of our stay. The location is choice - right in the middle of the beating, pumping heart of Jasper. You can't beat those prices! The hotel itself is attached to a pub and a restaurant. On one of the days of the trip I refused to leave the hotel because I was enjoying it so much. 24 hours in my room straight, ordering room service food straight to my bed! The chicken sandwich was divine. I am already looking forward to my next stay in this humble slice of paradise. To breathe the Astoria air is an experience in and of itself. See you again soon!
12 January 2021 20:25
Really nice place to stay in Jasper. Reasonably priced, very nice and helpful receptionists, great location. They have a good relationship with the restaurants nearby, which makes dinner and breakfast super easy. As I was booking I was given the option of a queen or king room (2 adults), which were the same price. No brainer right? Turns out a king bed is just 2 singles pushed together. Quite funny to us, we were fine with it, but just keep that in mind.
06 January 2021 13:54
I'd give them a five but the shower was small. Not made for two and barely made for one. Don't drop the soap!
Other than that the bed was comfy. The room was warm. The famous bakery was close by!
The food in the hotel was excellent and great coffee, bottomless pot. That's important in the morning! Enjoy!
04 January 2021 15:28
Nice location and very polite staff. It is a older hotel and as such has some quirks and charm that you have to take with a grain of salt
Be aware it is across from the CN's main track so the train traffic is pretty constant (more a white noise thing for us)

Overall I would stay again
06 December 2020 2:13
Got 2 nights here and would deafinetly again.
Bathroom was small with shower only in the room i got but it worked. Unknown how the rest are. But it was clean and the TV worked as well as 2 resteraunts with bars right down stairs. Price was reasonable for the area as well.

My wife and I recently stayed here, it's a nice small hotel if you're planning on staying in Jasper for a couple days. Staff are friendly and you're in walking distance to several restaurants, including the famous Bear Paw's bakery right around the corner. The room itself was small and the finishes were somewhat updated to that vintage type of feel, but don't expect too much. We had a few mishaps with our keys not working, but it was resolved quickly.
03 October 2019 5:24
The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms were clean and the location was excellent.
Both restaurants attached to the hotel were great. Primarily Papa George’s. I recommend the prime rib and fish and chips.
15 September 2019 18:01
Very central to downtown Jasper!
24hr concierge
No parking on premises but there is an all day lot across the road.
Does not have an elevator and all rooms are up 1 flight of stairs.
10% discount given to guests accessing different local companies.
Rooms are normal size for a hotel.
Bathrooms are original - meaning very small and tight for space.
The hotel is right next to the main CP rail train stop, which can make for a rather noisy nights sleep
11 September 2019 20:29
Nice little boutique/historic hotel in Jasper townsite. Liked the location with ease of access to town as well as out of town. Nice to have view of railway and green space. Helpful staff when TV would not work, but did not have maintenance on site so hard to fix. Negatives: Train goes through town all the time like every 15 minutes and is very noisy, also service was average.
14 August 2019 15:25
Super quaint and wonderful little hotel in the heart of the city of Jasper! Super easy to park across the street and then explore the city
11 August 2019 23:41
Easy to find, right on the main drag, close to restaurants and shops. The building was built in the 1920's so there is lots of beautiful wood. We were in a pinch and grabbed the last available room, which was a, two twin size bed, room.never seen one of those before. It was very small. We loved the antique nature of the place though. One odd thing to share, after charging us for the room, they ran an additional $200, refundable, damage deposit. I've never experienced that at a hotel before. I joked that they must deal with seriously rowdy crowds.he laughed and said, "you'd be surprised, last week an 89 year old woman broke once od their windows". Wow! The staff was friendly and very helpful. Check in was at 4pm and the rooms were not ready any earlier than that.
11 August 2019 9:28
Great location with beautiful views. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. The restaurant and pub had good eats. Rooms were clean and comfortable for our 2 nights in Jasper. Would recommend as a base for your adventures in the rockies.
26 July 2019 15:11
Excellent hotel, in the heart of downtown Jasper with access to everything nearby. Free parking, awesome staff, a bar right downstairs and amazing food at Papa George's! Will be back, very soon.
14 July 2019 22:59
We stayed here the night before our Rocky Mountaineer train departed for Vancouver. It's a great location- center of town, walking distance to restaurants, car rental, and the train station. The ambiance is nice, and our room in the front of the hotel was cute. But this room had two major problems, which we discovered at bedtime.

First, due to a strange air conditioning vent on the window, the shade doesn't lower all the way. So we had mainstreet lights blaring into our room all night.

Second, the street noise is loud until after midnight, and the window doesn't shut tightly. So we might as well have been in a tent, rather than paying for this charming hotel.

My suggestion for the hotel is to spend less money on a fancy TV, which this room has, and more $ on making the room quiet and dark for your guests.

The desk clerk was not very apologetic when I told him how terribly I slept the night before. If you stay here, ask for a room in the middle of the hotel, and bring earplugs and a sleep mask in case you get one in the front.

See my photo of the window at night-how much light came in through the blinds.

Responding to the owner ~ Thank you for reading and commenting. I agree with you, the view of the Canadian Rockies is excellent. I hope you follow through and fix this problem ~ it would make a huge difference.
