A best kept secret real food experience in Calgary. Daughter and I are foodies and while we have to watch our waistlines, this place was intriguing enough to warrant a visit. Harken back to the atmosphere of a European pub (deer antlers adorning the walls) where the vast majority of diners are Caucasian seniors. If you can appreciate the vibe, you will love the Austrian/German food. Everything is made from scratch by a talented kitchen staff, prices are low enough to be reasonable and the tastes are fabulous. The large pretzel with 3 kinds of mustard was in no way like the poor imitations found in grocers. Who would think of ordering a pretzel as a starter? We ordered way more than we should to sample the menu. The Russian smoked salmon salad was excellent. Farmers plate seemed to be a popular choice with assorted sausage, deep fried pork schnitzel and lemon wedge, dumpling with onion sauce and red cabbage. The sides are interchangeable so you can sub fried potatoes for cabbage for example. Portions are generous. Apple strudel with real whipped cream and Sachel torte were top quality. They held a catering event in the dining room so with our reservations, we were placed in the lounge. A great find!
This place is absolutely fantastic! Authentic to the bone. Service is great and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're truly back in austria. Their schnitzel is to die for and nothing more can be said about how great it is. Will be back!
My wife and I had supper last Saturday evening and overall the experience was good food and drink. Authentic cuisine taking us back to when we use to get together as a family. The only thing that could be changed is the front desk area was a bit of a mystery as we didn't know if we should sit ourselves or wait for hostess.
Stopped by for dinner last night service was great very friendly my girl had the farmers plate I had schnitzel with mushroom gravy and a bowel goulash appearance was hopeful but all was super bland no spice at all only thing with any taste was one of the sausage …. Not worth the money
One of my favourite places to eat. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is tasty and decently priced. Portions are generous and I usually have enough to take home for lunch the next day. My favorite is the weiner schnitzel with spaetzle (instead of the potatos) and its always delicious.
Very unique European dining experience. Mostly of the German/Austrian menu varieties, the food and service gets 5 thumbs way up from me. Nothing comes from a tin can. Everything is made by an actual German chef. A must visit.
We came on a whim today and they were having Maifest and raised the Maibaum! It was super cool to see everyone in traditional outfits and enjoying the sunny day. Inside we had great service, beer, and very tasty schnitzel. The ambiance was great. We will definitely come back!
If you're looking to try some authentic Austrian food and drinks this is the place to go! Two large dining rooms that you can book for gatherings or just do for a nice dinner. There's also a lounge below. The decor is relatively traditional. The only down side I would say is that there is not a while lot of budget for maintaining the place, the chair cushions are very compressed and not very comfortable, there is a significant amount of wear and tear to most things visible, but to be expected with a niche market.
What a great little gem of a place! So happy to have recently stumbled upon it. So hard to decide what to order, I don’t think there’s a bad choice. I ordered the rouladen, which was perfection, but can’t wait to go back to try something new. Love the retro ambiance as well!
I'd like to recommend the Austrian Canadian Club for a wedding reception venue! Of course, they have an amazing restaurant/lounge and host other great events (like Oktoberfest) but my husband and I had the pleasure of booking with the Club for our wedding and I highly recommend it to anyone else who is looking for a venue! From day one of communication, Andreas was amazing. He helped us figure out which hall was the best, he provided a detailed list of all available features of the venue, and gave us a detailed price list as well. We changed our minds on a few details throughout the planning and we had about a dozen guests with various good allergies as well, and the Club was more than accommodating. All staff were professional and personable on the night of out wedding and they helped us to have everything run smoothly. Let's not forget the food. The delicious food was a huge reason of why we booked with the Club and they definitely delivered on all expectations. The buffet was to due for; months later, we are still getting tonnes of compliments on the food. Thanks to the Austrian Club for your help in facilitating the perfect night for our wedding and helping us take care of our guests!
Excellent food, super friendly employees, constantly awesome atmosphere. They charge convenient prices and the food quality is great. I recommend this place.
Went for a quick birthday lunch for my father and uncle in the dining lounge. The waitress went above and beyond with pompt service and a lovely and lively sense of humour (easily my favroutie part of the dining experience)! The service complemented my delicious meal, the schnitzel, splendidly. To top it all off the seating area had a cozy and quiet atmosphere which can be a bit difficult during lunch on a workday, especially when you consider the view that overlooks deerfoot and downtown. Just might pop back in sometime
Instead of vegetables from the freezer, the cook may want to get some fresh produce. The sauce on the veal tasted like a package sauce. Kind of resemble the food I had in Austria, but low quality.
This place appears to be frequented by regulars and is not the typical place you seem to meet random walk-ins (possibly due to its “odd” location). The guests were middle-aged, and if you are after some ideas of how a local guesthouse in the countryside of Austria could be, then this is your location. The food was good, beer and Schnapps selection were ok too. Staff was genuinely friendly and offered a good service.
The food is very reminiscent of the restaurants we experienced while living in Germany. I enjoy either lunch during weekdays or evening supper with friends.
Very relaxing restaurant. Nice assortment of wines, as well as other alcohols & non alcoholic beverages. The food is exemplary. The service is outstanding and the it is very affordable. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Had the wiener schnitzel with speatzle and it was terrible. They have no idea how make real schnitzel. Not real Austrian taste. I guess they need to hire a real Austrian chef. The vegetables were warmed up frozen vegetables. The speatzle was a joke.
