Very impressed with the knowledge and customer service. We spent a lot of time in the store and were very happy to bring home our new Cockatiel into our family. All supplies we needed were there.
My bird always receives excellent care when she is there boarding. Paul and the staff know a lot about birds and care about birds a lot. I love this place!
This place was awesome with my nephews they had a blast playing with the parrots There's so many cool different kind of birds I recommend this place to anybody that loves birds or animals are Or who has kids
I went in to the shop today to inquire mainly about africam greys. The individual I believe owned the store was absolutely amazing. He took a good 30 mins out of his day to talk with me about different birds and gave me his honest opinion regarding everything I could ask. When I get a bird these guys 100% have my business. Very professional and you can tell they really really care about their birds.
First time going to Baker’s Bird Shop, I would not recommend this place, horrible customer service, PERIOD. Especially there’s a man working there, he seemed very ignorant and unprofessional.
If I could put less than 1 star I would! My wife and I went in to inquire about switching the birdseed to one with less waste for the backyard birds. The girl that helped us showed us the "best birdseed" for the birds in our backyard. Based on her information we bought it. The birdseed seemed actually drove the birds away. They would peck at it for half a second and fly away. When we called to ask about exchanging, we were told that they are not allowed. Its a government regulation they said. So we are stuck with a $55 dollar bag of useless bird seed. Every pet store I've ever been too always offers food returns when purchasing new kinds. Terrible customer service. Won't ever shop there again.
My roommate had called yesterday about concerns she had over her birds. Her being a first time bird owner, decided to seek some advice from what she had observed to be a well reputable bird store. Not only were her concerns dismissed as bad ownership, the man she had spoken to had said the food in her possession was all "chemicals". Since she didn't purchase his clearly superior, hand mixed bird food, it was obviously the major contributor as to why her birds are unhappy. Proceeds to then have a tantrum, as he was informed her birds wings are not clipped. Maybe an indicator as to why a bird in your care "mistakenly" had its wings clipped. But to my absolute disgust, he had the audacity to say to her "I feel bad for your future children, if your birds are any indication on how you treat something in your care". First of all, if you repel women, just say that. Secondly, I have read many of the negative reviews on this page, and prior to that conversation I had never had a bad experience in your store. This comment is not only revolting, but highlights the hatred you have for inexperienced bird owners. I assume you find it hard to imagine that every bird owner is inexperienced at one point. Just because you may not agree on how owners tend to their animals, does not make your own practices the only correct way, entitled to comment on a woman's future to have children, or the ability to speak to someone asking for guidance in such a degrading regard. I look forward to informing everyone I know about this store, and the vile comments made by this poor excuse of a man.
I got a pair of budgies as a birthday gift and obviously, as a first-time bird owner, I need all the help and information I can get so I called bakers since that’s where the budgies were purchased and the man who answered the phone was so mean to me. I didn’t get to ask any of the questions I needed to and was just told “wrong” every time I said what I have tried. I was even told “if there was an award for the worst person to take care of birds, you would win it” I wish I was joking.
Awesome place with lots of different birds and the owner clearly loves them! Food, toys, bird houses, you name it you got it! Definitely check this place out if you are in the market for any of it!
Strongly recommended! Lovely birds! So impressive! I will definitely go frequently for food, treats, toys! All the staffs there are sooooooo friendly! 10/10,15/10 if I can LOL!
Incredible knowledge about birds. They have always answered my questions and have given me great advice. My little Senegal is happier then ever. After reading the comments, I can say that instead of 'forward' and 'rude' they are truly knowledgeable and passionate. Which in the bird world, we need more of. These guys really care about our feathered friends and know their stuff.
I had grown up with birds, and decided I wanted to adopt a parrot as a family pet. I had an idea of what I wanted, but the staff educated me on what was the right fit for my family. I would have never picked an Indian Ringneck on my own without their guidance. We are so happy with our choice, and Pepito fits so well in our home, and with my children. This place is an adventure.even if you're not looking to adopt, I would suggest you visit just to see all the amazing parrots.
Lots of the birds in the store were in distress and the budgies in the cages were overcrowded and stressed. The budgies were also very overbred and sick.
I was there for my first time today. I did notice the numbers of birds in the store but I also realized lots of the birds were being boarded there by owners that are on vacation. The owner seemed to be a very forward man but knowledgeable about the birds. He did say to me “if you are getting a bird based on it’s price tag, it is the wrong way to pick a bird” at first this seemed rude. Then he explained that some birds are social, some more aggressive, some talk, some are song birds ect. He also explained the importance of the different needs for attention different birds have. After taking the time to listen I can appreciate his forwardness as he has passion for birds and my experience was educational. I do not think he has any intention to be rude but to not sell birds to people without the knowledge. He told me to do some research of different types of birds, he took the time to talk to me about the breeds In the store and was friendly and willing to answer all of my questions. I will be back, I appreciate that the was forward and different. I don’t know much about birds yet but I do have trust that this store is a good resource.
I came in to look for a more suitable perch for my bird’s travel backpack as the default was too smooth and small. The staff member was very friendly, helpful, and perceptive as to what would work with the backpack. We ended up getting the rope perch the staff suggested and had our bird try it out. The rope perch she picked out was the perfect length for the backpack and he was able sit comfortably inside without worrying he was going to fall over:)
With that aside I was able to find everything I needed and my bird was very happy with our purchases today.
I had called about me needing to figure out my budgies diet the lady said I should not give budgies vegetables as they don’t eat them in the wild.but come to find out from my vet that feeding vegetables is necessary. I told her that everywhere online states I should offer vegetables and she said If I wrote online that the sky was purple people would believe me. But the thing is every single vet I have called as well as every other pet store and website shows that you need to offer some vegetables.
Wife and I were here looking for seeds for our bird. We thought we'd drop by this place as it was near by our travel route that day. They didn't carry the brand we were looking for, no biggie. But seeing the interior was less than desirable. Stacked occupied cages with seeds spewed all over a carpeted (if memory served correctly) floor. The rest of the store felt cramped. Certainly wasn't as clean or pristine as our regular "feeding ground". Wish the owners well but we'll probably never return there again.
I see so many rewiews saying the staff at Bakers is rude and mean, but this is SO untrue! The staff at bakers are so kind and helpful when it comes to birds, Mr. Baker has helped me so much with my bird. Please dont listen to the negative reviews, Bakers bird shop is amazing!
The owner is very rude and should honestly stay in the back managing rather than accepting phone calls and talking to customers.the birds look sickily and honestly edmonton would be a better place without this place. The birds would probably have a better survival chance in the middle of canadas winter than 1 day in there
Absolutely love this place. My kiddos and I could go there everyday! The people who work there are friendly and are very knowledgeable. We bought our love bird there and now looking at buying a Indian ringneck. They also have the best bird toys and treats. We will continue to support local! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
**edited** The owner responded to my post and suggested that they are still cheaper and that I need to do my research.so I will make a change to my original post. YES they are cheaper than some big chain stores.but NO they are not the cheapest place to find good quality bird cages and supplies. If your looking for supplies do your own research beforehand**** **original post**Owner super friendly and helpful however their prices are NOT cheaper than other places
This is a great Bird shop! It would be my top recommendation to anyone/family thats looking at getting a bird!
They have like 30-40 different types of birds at the front of their shop. Some of the birds aren't for sale but its really cool to stop by and look at the rare Parrots. They also have a wide variety of bird feeds, toys, cages, cleaners, etc. The owner is very knowledgable on all bird species! Great one stop shop for bird stuff!
They also have an adoption program and were able to re-home my peach-faced love-bird! Amazing!
Thank you very much for all your help in purchasing a parrot. Your expertise and our lack of got us a parrot that has now become part of our family. You sold us what we needed to get started in the bird world and nothing more which was muchly appreciated.it is expensive enough without wasting money on foolish stuff Thanks again tim
The clerk was very rude. We went for buying a bird, and she was so rude to us. I asked her are these birds tame? The specific bird was $400. And she replied "no. If they were tamed, they would be $800. Like my boss said, you don't work for free! " I didn't ask why they are not tamed, or criticizing! I asked 4 questions about their birds and she was so unwilling to reply that I just left. With that behavior, I am surprised how they are still in business!
My husband and I just came in to buy a spare bird cage for my African Grey. We were helped by Paul Baker who was wonderful! He had lots of information and even gave me a sample of his own bird food for my guy to try. I didnt feel rushed like I have at other bird supply stores. He spent the time with me to hear my concerns and questions and was just a pleasure to talk to. He has such a compassion for birds and I found it refreshing. Thanks Paul. We will be back!
Paul and his lady staff are just fabulous. If you want to know something about a bird, ask Paul. The building where he keeps his birds and other peoples's birds are boarded, is beautifully clean and tidy.
Very well stocked for wildbird feeding - the owner is so knowledgeable and friendly. Plus, don't tell the hubby but me and that parrot at the front of the store sure had a thing going on!
I was in the other day, when someone told me to throw out my uva uvb light, as well as an iodine block and cuttle bone.the man came off very rude when i was talking about my bird.i am very disturbed and hope that no one else follows that information with other people as it can kill birds.the uva uvb light reduces birds from becoming color blind as well plucking and the production of vitamin D3 (essential for birds) and no natural sun will not do it.an employees opinion shouldn’t be out there killing birds when their owners aren’t educated and will listen to this information.i am sick to my stomach and will never be returning, as well telling others to never go there.if i could give zero stars i would by far.
A wonderful place and knowledgeable staff! We visited Bakers for the first time on advice of a close friend and couldn’t be happier! We have purchased a number of birds from the shop and their knowledge and expertise is second to none after their many many years in business. Something worth it’s weight in gold. Be careful of big box stores and the internet warriors selling you the wrong information and misleading you when it comes to caring for your avian companions. Go in and have a thoughtful and open chat with the staff, there is much to be learned by those with years experience caring for birds. We love just stopping in regularly for a few mins, talking and interacting with the birds in the store will always surely lift your spirits!
This is the only place I go to buy my birds food. Best prices, knowledgeable staff and they give out great recipes for me to make for my little fluff balls. Great job guys!
It's a nice place but hard to get somebody to talk to especially when the place was very busy with people, anyway a couple days ago I decided to email to obtain some informations and still got no reply pretty disappointed when the business is active. Other than that we enjoyed looking at all the beautiful birds they are worth seeing it. Just be aware it is very noisy if your not used to noisy birds. Thank you.
Ok. I’m the bus driver and I assure you the other poster is NOT mistaken. Paul, after blocking my bus in with his truck, proceeded to insult, threaten and at one point shove me. He is a bully pure and simple. I was shopping in the area just not in his store and I was doing so and leaving before his store or just as his store was about to open.
I was just going to let this die but then he called my work and said I raised a hand to his staff. Which, for anyone who knows me, is absurd.
Needless to say, read some of the reviews and decide for yourself as people describe the owner as rude, condescending, and narcissistic among other things!
I am sure Paul will reply to this with some smug reply as he often does based on other replies. The reality is that his reaction to the situation was grossly disproportionate. A simple ask not to park there in the future would of been sufficient. You are a sad small man, I pity you! If you wish to escalate this further I will gladly file a police report and contact the landlord at which point we will see if your staff is willing to lie for you, somehow I doubt it.
