Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa

Beautifully rustic but lost points (for me) due to poor WiFi and some reception staff were dismissive.
Honestly, I was expecting quite a rundown hotel based on the reviews I'd read but it was lovely (albeit deliberately rustic) and quite adequately clean. And I wasn't the only one who enjoyed the real fire in the lobby (although some of us were down there wrestling with the WiFi).
I was also pleasantly surprised by the hotel restaurant (although they can't do hot chocolate or coffee - well, they SHOULDN'T).
My main complaint is the issues I had with the WiFi throughout my stay and the dismissive attitude of some of the reception staff (not just about WiFi but also other questions eg.the complimentary bus pass etc). Some were very pleasant and helpful and others made you feel you were beneath their notice - you never knew what you'd get, although some I learnt to avoid outright.

Nice rooms. Decent space. Beds n pillows were not very comfortable. Washroom was spacious.

Reviews of everything going right don't mean much; Caribou Inn and the supervisory Staff are amazing, considerate and accommodating.

Completely out of the hotels control, the fire alarm went off and disrupted our sleep during our stay, the staff went out of their way to ensure our comfort after the incident.

After staying at other, more expensive Banff Lodging Co. Hotels, I can assure you the Caribou Inn's superior suites are in fact superior. They have fridges (you wouldn't think this is important, but it is!), kettles and actual living space with dining chairs and a little balcony. The bathrooms were big enough that the two people staying in the room were content getting ready.

PROS
Amazing hotel! 1km walking from downtown Banff.very nice, well equipped, super comfy, great room, comfy beds. Spa/hot pool + sauna also nice.small gym as well. Nothing to complain about, really.

CONS
would maybe only recommend to not add fresh towels every day, when not required by the guests - not green / sustainable.

Friendly staff, the front desk attendant gave us some awesome recommendations on things to do in Banff, as well booked the gondola for us the next morning.
Underground heated parking JUST fit my Ram 1500 which is VERY accommodating, and the Red Earth Spa mineral hot tub was very relaxing. Pricing was great, close to the shops. Will be back!

The room and bed were very comfortable. Nice shower and bathroom space. The room does lack any sort of USB connections or notably convenient AC plugs to plug-in chargeables.

This is my place of work and I also stayed here many times with my family and friend when they come here at Banff to visit me.

Great hotel! They provided bus passes for us to get to all the places we wanted to go. Breakfast at the Keg was good, a la carte was better than the buffet. RedEarth spa was wonderful, hot pools were relaxing.

Rooms were nice, bed comfortable and the bathroom was large enough for 2 people, which is rare.

Great hospitality and always willing to enhance a trip.

AGAIN HAD TO BEG FOR FRESH MILK THEN HAD NO MORE WHEN ASKED AGAIN. No food in lodge had to go out

A beautiful little hotel just a 10-15 minute walk outside the main town. Beautiful rooms, breathtaking view and excellent customer service. Very nice, but quite overpriced.

This review is purely for the staff and amenities as we actually stayed at The Dorothy.
Check in was straightforward and the young English guy was very helpful - I wish I could remember his name because we felt he went above and beyond to help us out with local info etc.and he really deserves a personal shout out. The other staff were so-so, they just didn't seem that interested to be honest. To be fair, they've probably had a long busy season and were over tourists asking the same stupid questions.
We used the laundry and hot pool. The laundry could maybe do with a little updating but was clean enough. The hot pools were the perfect way to start or end a day of walking. They were well maintained and on the occasions we used them, we were the only people in them.

Very nice hotel on Banff Ave. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was a pleasant size. The only thing that really bothered me was the loud ventilation in the house, especially in the hallways. Otherwise there is nothing to complain about. We didn't go to the in-house restaurant. That was too expensive for us.

This hotel was perfect. The hotel is situated in the heart of Banff, just a 15 minute walk to Main Street. The hotel also provides a free shuttle bus service which takes you all around town. This place has such a cosy, homely feel and the restaurant offers beautiful mountain views. What a gorgeous place to stay. Banff has so much to offer, I can’t wait to return.

Nice hotel, lovely reception area. Room was fine. Parking was free. Free bus pass offered for duration of stay. (5 mins to town centre or a 15 minute walk)
Would use again

Rooms were fair with beds made up nicely and the bathroom stocked up with products from Rocky Mountain Soap Co. They did clean even with our two night stay which was appreciated. However one staff member did bump into one of our family members and they seemed annoyed we were in their way even though we were waiting for the elevator. For this I would look elsewhere to stay next time.

Extremely loud. Since there are tons of tour groups checking in and out almost at any time of the day or night, the noise level is considerable. Buses load luggage and passengers on and off with the engine running. Sleeping is almost impossible. Cleanliness? My bedding was smeared with blood stains from previous guests.

Rooms: Small, Dirty and old. I found LITERAK BLOODSTAINS on my bed and there was hair and dust everywhere.

Service: Good, and nice.

Location: Near many tourist attractions.

Summary: The main part of a hotel is ita rooms. While this hotel has good service and location, I can't recommend people to stay in a hotel with horrid rooms.

Usually I don’t make comments on hotels as long as they are not too awful, but the experience with Caribou this time is really unpleasant. First, our room is located on 4th floor, and the roof is half covered the bed, which makes us very uncomfortable to sleep “underneath”. Second, the bed sheet cannot even fully covered the bed, and we can clearly see the mattress protector at the end of the bed. Third, bathroom has no ventilation at all, and the water will flood from the shower cuz there’s no door at the shower area. Fourth, there is no AC in this hotel, even we put 18.5 degrees but still there’s no cool air coming in, and the hotel sweetly provided a fan inside the room, so we can survive the night. For $350 after discount a night during the non-high season, I can’t say it’s a ripoff, but we will never choose this hotel again for sure, try other ones on a better location, and this one is too far from Downtown Banff as well, too much walking.

Stayed here for two nights with my wife for our mini-moon since our honeymoon trip will be next summer.
I booked the Norquay Suite. Nice that it's two floors, spacious, potential to be cozy in winter with the fireplace and has nice view from all windows. However, for nearly 700$ a night, I find it totally unacceptable that only 1/2 spa tub lights worked, the main dome light over the bed had no switch (i.e. It didn't work), the thermostat doesn't function properly (room gets warm), and that dust accumulates along support beams. For crying out loud, the entertainment options made me feel as if I were back in 2000! We wanted to sit back and watch a movie, but the TVs, you'd be likely to find the same in the budget hotel. These may seem like trivial points, but at that price, these things have no reason to be overlooked or neglected.
The service is average, not unfriendly but certainly not overly welcoming.
Location is walking distance from town centre, good for active people and helps build appetite before a meal.
I may give this hotel a second chance, but I expect things to be better.

Very helpful front desk and thoughtful of them to offer free bus vouchers. Decor is tastefully done imo the best among the strip. And breakfast at the keg downstairs is very enjoyable

My husband & I saved for a trip to Banff and on arrival our room was not ready, that’s ok sometimes stuff just happens! Then we got told we would receive drink vouchers for compensation on arrival, no drink vouchers, we had to ask for them. We had a problem in our bathroom the reception staff weren’t answering the phone so had to walk down stairs to get assistance with maintenance in the room, reception staff were not receptive. Got spoken to rudely at The Keg within their premises both times for breakfast. They had no black tea to offer us because we were told they had a large group of 50 in before us. When you travel half way around the world to visit one of the most spectacular places in Canada my recommendation should be stay somewhere else!
