Banff Ptarmigan Inn

At the main Street. We loved the hotel. I went with two children who loved their stay. Bus stop very close. Breakfast is a la carte and paid separately. TV is not smart, it only has access to cable channels. I highly recommend it, cozy, clean and familiar.

Dirty Hotel. At 500 a night. Some rooms do not have windows in the hotel.
We stayed one night couldn’t wait to get out of there. Rooms need to be steam cleaned and renovated. Will not stay here again.

We were here for 3 nights on a coach tour. Absolutely fabulous. My son and I were in a twin room which was practically two separate rooms. There was a massive bed which could fit 4 in. A table chairs and large TV in that room. The bathroom separated it from the other queen size bed. Another TV and solid chest of drawers. Coffee maker, kettle and full size fridge. Our kettle was broken, but within 15 minutes it was replaced. What service! Our coach party had complimentary breakfast. It was buffet style with hot /cold choices. The staff were delightful and very helpful. It was ideally situated for downtown Banff, and we got complimentary bus tickets for the town. The restaurant The Meatball doubles up as the bar as well. Italian inspired. You can get a 15 dollar special, and it was great value. All in all, a fabulous stay. Thank you.

The first floor room is actually in the basement, dim and dark, the only window to the atrium, no privacy at all also in the sunken area, so expensive room rate is actually like this, will never choose this hotel again!

I would have given this 5 stars but two things really wound me up. Firstly we were given a room facing the atrium which had continuous noise with people coming and going through reception, I’ll give credit to the staff though, when I asked to change room they found me a much quieter room on the same floor. The room was huge with a really comfortable king size bed, can fault the room at all.
Secondly is the incidental credit card charge that you pay when checking in. I was told on checking out that it would be released immediately yet three weeks since departing I still haven’t received it back and according to my credit card supplier it is still pending until the 9th August a full one month since leaving, so they obviously aren’t telling the truth.
On the positive sides, the hotel is in a perfect area for exploring, I love the free parking, but be aware it’s first come first served and was really busy at times.
We opted for the bed and breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the size and quantity of the food.
Banff is a truly fantastic place and would give it 5+ stars

Place is a bit dated, but the bathroom was reno'd. Room was clean and the wifi was good.

Great location on the main road, downtown. Close to walk anywhere!

The hot tubs could definitely use a deep clean, though.
Rooms and restaurant were great. The beds were very comfortable and all the wall lights in the room were fantastic!
My favourite room features were: 3 bedside tables (each person gets one), a wall plug and 2 USBs above each table, and individual reading lights on either side of the headboard. I wish this was standard in all hotels!

Had a room facing the atrium, was woken up by a child orchestra at 9am. I was rooming with my friends and we were up talking and the security knocked on our door three separate times, even once we had started to go to sleep? Just a weird spot. Good price though

Just a minutes walk from downtown. Rooms well laid out and pleasantly decorated. Tea/coffee making setup. Fridge and a laptop sized security box.

We stayed there for two nights. Room and breakfast were good. Loved the place.
The location is perfect. Banff is a small village surrounded by mountains with a lot of hiking possibilities.
If anyone is planning to go there the you should try like Lake Louis, then you should take a bus which stops just outside of the Ptarmigan Inn.

I debated giving it a one star, but I felt the manager and supervisor were so kind that I felt bad. The parking here is a nightmare. It’s first come/first serve, but that fact is poorly communicated. It is listed on the website (I over looked that detail as it is kinda buried on the page). This wasn’t mentioned on either the confirmation email, the welcome email or upon check-in. The parking, when available, is underground one and two levels. It is SO TIGHT. There were multiple cars looming for spots and it took us 25 min to get out of the garage. The person at the desk in front of me was also complaining about the parking and they were told they could park in the fire lanes! This explains why the garage was so difficult to maneuver. The bottom line is that there isn’t enough spots for every room (which would be fine if better communicated). The overflow lot is. 8km away at the train station.

Ptarmigan is located at waking distance from heart of Banff Downtown, restaurants, shopping & Banff visitors center.

Breakfast is included & can't miss freshly made Omlette.

The hotel is OK. Not more, not less. It was designed probably 30 years ago or more, and the experience is of an old palace which is ok-maintained. Examples: In order to get to the rooms in the "ground" floor, you have to climb 4-5 stairs, that is - you have to drag up all the luggage uppun the rooms. Strange design. ; The rooms are dark - never mind what you do, you get jave a darkness. This was the design standard many years ago, whereas today the rooms should be lighted and gives the feeling of openess and freshness. Also, there is a carpet all over the places - rooms and corridor, which is bad for alergists! What the hell is better than a clean floor? Athens service is OK. I ordered a technician to fis the faucet and some other stuff in the toilet, and he arrived fast; Breakfast - one who looks for vegetables for breakfast will not find any. You get plenty of cholesterol wrapped as - ham, scrambled eggs and muffins. The location is OK, in a walking distance from to stores etc.

Nestled in with other hotels. This hotel had a lovely room, didn’t feel stuffy or tight. The bus stand was close and the hotel is fairly close to the shopping and restaurant scene. Great staff as well.

Makes it easy to Roam around banff,
Breakfast is included, staff is friendly. Enough in and outdoor parking space. The rooms didn't have balcony that was the only bummer. Prices are high due to high demand in Summer. Expect a $150 dollar type of room, everything else is awesome.

Location was good. With the price i found it to be expensive but overall room were clean and nice bit old fashioned. But would recommend hotel. Checkin was very fast and wasy.lady at recption was warm and welcoming.

Very clean room and comfortable beds. No air-condition in my room still refurbishing, started to connect air-conditioning as we left. Dinner good breakfast OK had omelettes freshly made but limited variety of other food.

Location 5/5. Right across Transit hub. One can easily take shuttle to Banff Gondola, Lake Louise and other attractions. Fast check-in. Parking on site. Friendly staff. Room was clean. Breakfast was excellent.

Located close to center of town. Walking distance to most shops and restaurants. Love their product line. Can't wait to buy some Rocky mountain soap company products. Rooms are on the small size but plenty of space to spread out. For a large hotel having one elevator at a service was a small inconvenience.

Unfortunately contracted Covid during our Canadian trip. Had to isolate at teh Ptarmigan for 10 days, the staff were wonderful and could not do enough for us. Made the 10 days in a hotel room much better than it could have been. Thanks to all the staff.

Ptarmigan is an older hotel but it looks to have been refreshed a few years ago. It is fairly well maintained so still feels quite nice but has an old school charm to it.

Location is hard to beat as it's right before the heart of town and has free parking on site (limited so they could run out of space). Just about anything is within walking distance and even if it was not your room comes with a free bus pass via the Roam bus system. Rooms also come with complimentary breakfast at their inhouse restaurant which was just ok. Hot items included an omelette station, link sausage, scrambled eggs, mini pancakes and hash browns. Cold items included while apples, oranges, various cereals and pastries.

Room was a Mountain View balcony with king beds. The bed was super comfortable and had lots of nice soft pillows. There is a large TV along with a gas fireplace and huge bathroom. The view from the patio was truly amazing as you get a great view of Mount Rundle but it could vary by room.

Negatives were that the room doesn't have enough light, door let's lots of sound through so people going to elevator could be heard easily and the fan on the gas fireplace was a bit too loud. While not a probably for my visit there is no AC in this or any room.

Finally this balcony faces Banff avenue so you will get the noise off the street but that can't be helped.

All staff encountered were very pleasant and I felt very welcomed here during my stay.

Overall a great experience and I would definitely stay again in the future.

The room was not cleaned well. The table top wasn't even wiped down. It still has crumbs and debris on it. Neither of the beds had a fitted sheet. It was so hot! That was the worst part. The wall device only allowed the heat to be turned off and even then there was still hot air being blown into the room. And we didn't have a window we could open. The breakfast was good. But I wouldn't stay there again because of the heat and uncleanliness

4 days on tour in Banff. Hotel was tour provided so it wasn't a choice. Great location, had everything we needed, staff were professional and efficient. The room was OK, not a very hot shower, bathroom was pretty small, and from what I could see could use a little refreshing and maintenance a few things loose in the bath (towel holder, toilet tissue holder) but no major complaints. Would stay here again.

I really liked this hotel! The room I got had 2 queen beds and a vaulted ceiling, facing inside the courtyard on a high floor (they accomodated my request). The underground parkade is quite small so I parked around the back and it was fine. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. Small bathroom and tiny TV but the rest of the room was cozy and I like the decor behind the beds. The interior of the hotel is very dated and ugly, I think they have two old hottubs indoor. It would be nice if they had a pool or a nicer looking hottub area.

Very convenient location! Bus stop is just outside the hotel. If your going to lake louise, moraine, the bus stop is just across the hotel. This hotel has the perfect location, minutes walk to coffee shop, supermarket, restaurants.and they have a complimentary roam pass that lets you ride the bus for free around Banff.

On another note, room was okay. Carpet & bed sheets were old and stained. Liked the toilet, which is wide, and looks new.and i liked that they used the locally made shampoo etc. Complimentary buffet breakfast was filling though not much choices.

Staff were accomodating and friendly except for one lady in the front desk. Not welcoming at all and rude. We didnt get her name, but in her name tag it says United States.

Overall it was okay. We enjoyed our stay.

I booked a smoking pet friendly room. When I got there I was told I had to pay.an extra 25 a night for my pet. I got a no smoking room. They don't have enough parking. I had to walk for 10 minutes then I have to get up at 8am to move my vehicle. Needless to say I won't stay here again. I'm trying not to let it ruin my first time in Banff

The Inn exceeded our expectations from check-in to checkout. The rooms were good size and clean. The breakfast was included and filled us up each morning.

If your looking for an INN that is walking distance to downtown, this is the place to be. I recently torn the cartilage in my knee, so it was important to find a location close to downtown to limit my walking.

I highly recommend this location, great value.

They do mention that the rooms are not A/C, this was not a problem in September, but be aware if you are travelling June, July, Aug.

For disabled visitors coming from Ontario, you should be aware the Alberta has no Disability Act, so bathtubs generally do not have safety bars, and may venues may not have a washroom on the ground floor (Gondola etc).

Great hotel. Stayed here August 15th-20th. Staff were all awesome. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful, bar and restaurant staff were great, very friendly and very cheerful every night. Roo.s were nice and clean. Hotel is in a perfect place, steps from the bus system and steps to downtown strip. Only downfall for me was there was no air-conditioning.

Service was great but there was no air conditioning. Our room was +27 degrees at dinner time and only cooled to +24 through the night. Had to have 2 fans blowing on us all night in order to sleep! We paid over $300/ night and couldn't spend any time in our room which was a bummer. Hot breakfast was a plus.

Friendly staff, clean rooms and the omelet chef is up to experimenting. Had some great creations for breakfast.

The room is comfortable. But if you go don't get rooms besides elevator it's noisy. Breakfast is okay.

Nice Hotel and best part about it is, it's on Banff's Main street where you can explore all shops.

No air-conditioned. Location was excellent. Very expensive. Rooms were congested. Breakfast was excellent.

Clean and comfy, though a little pricier than I expected, given there are newer places close by at the same price point. Don’t try to park in the underground parkade if you have a really big vehicle or substantial roof rack.

Excellent service and location. Only drawback was the room, which was very dark and not enough lights. Balcony was useless, facing directly the balcony from the neighbors hotel.

The room was alright. Ours had a balcony that faced some kind of weird atrium. No a/c so I wouldn't stay here in the summer. The staff was really efficient and nice and their toiletries were top-notch (I think they used Rocky Mountain Soap brand) so I guess that makes up for what's lacking.

The hotel has a great location and awesome breakfast. However the layout of the rooms with two queen beds is awful. In a typical room the bathroom / closet is situated by the door. At Ptarmigan, the tiny bathroom is in the middle of the room. If you open the door to the hallway you see directly into someone's bed. No privacy at all!

Excellent location, nice hotel. Was very pleased with everything except the breakfast buffet. Not a big choice, and the person making the omelets is so slow you end up waiting in line for 20 minutes at least. Everything else was great.

The inn is located in the heart of Banff. If you want to walk everywhere, this inn's location is spot on. The Inn's lobby is nice and staff extremely welcoming. As you make your way to the rooms, the extremely claustrophobic hallways are dark and dingy. The rooms are small, dark and poorly lit. I was assigned a room on the 1st floor and amidst the heat wave, I asked to be moved to 2nd floor. When I found out that all other floors were full and my window opened into the parking lot, sleeping with window open was not an option. The staff offered a portable table fan and cooler but there was no way I was spending a night in an oven. Atleast the staff was understanding and agreed to let me cancel without penalty. If you are visiting in summer or spring, stay at Banff Rocky Mountain Resort. That's where we ended staying. Ptarmigan needs of add ACs to atleast some of their rooms. Won't recommend to a friend. If you are visiting winter, then it's not a bad option if you can get over the claustrophobia.

Pretty lousy.the rooms are tiny, and dark. No a/c but you get a small broken fan. People smoking and hanging out outside the windows, parking is a joke.it is pet friendly which is nice. Overall I wouldn't stay here again.
