We didn’t go in as it was 4: 30am. But the area near this location is dark sky territory and excellent for astrophotography.

We drove from Calgary to visit, but when we got there we were told it was a walking tour only. I explained I have a hip issue and couldn't walk all of that without help. I really did expect them to have some accessibility options. All we got was a "sorry" from the girl behind the desk and then a "next" as we were brushed aside.

Very interesting place. A lot of history has been made at this beautiful rach in the foothills of Alberta. It's a great place to visist and see how things were done in the past and are still done to this day. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something to do on the weekend or just paaing through. Absolutely worth a little detour.

Staff was wonderful super kind and friendly
Not appropriate for children under school age of 6
Very minimal things for young children to do other than wander around
No animals to actually touch
Would have been helpful if when booking for a group of children if the staff asked or informed us that the site is not really set up for preschool age children
The painting on wood was awesome
Other than the painting there was really nothing of interest for 3-4 year olds
Not the ranch’s fault just should be clear when childcare and day camps are booking that there is not a lot to fill a full day for that age group
Even the older children were not overly interested in the “historical “ part of things as it was over their heads and too “school like”
Thanks for accommodating our group and having real toilets

What an awesome place to visit, apart from no military discount, we had a fab time. Staff really know the history of the ranch and we wished we’d getting the Percheron shuttle back but we got there late! Recommend to anyone who visits Alberta, the drive there is wonderful too,

Absolutely love this place. Wonderful atmosphere and interesting history, located in a perfect scenic valley in the foothills. The staff is always welcoming and one of the best parts is sitting around the campfire next to the old chuck wagon chatting. Always make an effort to visit once a year.

After years of driving past finally stopped in for a tour. Very interesting & enjoyable visit. Gave roping a try (not so easy). Especially liked the livestock. Hogs were entertaining. Responded to my greeting by racing around the pen & kicking-up thier heals. Sadly, I had no treats for them.

A wonderful overview of what it was to be cattle ranching in the late 1800s and 1900s. A tough and hardy group of men and womenfolk were needed for ranch life. Listen to stories of those days and take a wagon ride pulled by a beautiful pair of work horses. And while you’re at it stop by the concession for a delightful meal and ice cream.

Love going to the Bar U go on a regular basis, peaceful & beautiful, lots of really interesting things to see, great fireside stories & history while drinking coffee @ the campfire. Great ride in the horsedraw cart up to the restaurant for a lovely lunch.

Worth the drive from calgary. The presentations are great ; the interior of the buildings are meticulously well ‘staged’ and add life to an already authentic decor. Just enough to read on the boards; lots of photos and illustrations. English only though. Nice for kids. We had 1 staff person only but she graciously did 2 presentations: the campsite and the lasso throwing. We also did the horse carriage tour (15min around the ranch). The outdoor parts of site get very hot in summer: bring hat and sunscreen. Buildings are shaded and cool.

We had a great time exploring the ranch! Everyone was so knowledgeable & friendly. My little guy is severely anxious & everyone was so accommodating to his needs.

I love this historic ranch. It's set in the beautiful foothills of the Canadian rockies. This well preserved ranch details the history of ranching in Western Canada. They breed heavy horses here and were responsible for saving the percheron horse breed, the European counterparts for which were almost all eliminated in WWI. The interpretive staff are friendly and informative.

Well if you've been to the Calgary Stampede and you've maybe stayed in high river at the campground George lane memorial then your Is might as well go to Bar U Ranch and learn a little bit about this man and about the horses that he brought to this country. John
