Sitting down at Barb and Ernie's feels a bit like sitting at the old wooden table in your grandparents' kitchen, where they serve you simple but delicious food and you make those quiet, rich memories with family that make you smile years later. I absolutely love this place every time I come and can't wait to return!
Always fueling us for a big day. Our favourite breakfast here is the crepes with eggs and sausage. The staff is always friendly and the owner, Char is so community driven. She's always so friendly and such a wonderful neighbour to have.
Wow. I had the meat and eggs with bratwurst sausage option for breakfast. It was excellent, and huge - I barely walked out the door. Service was excellent, and menu has lots of interesting options for return visits. A great Edmonton-unique experience!
And then I went again - meat and eggs, but with the schnitzel this time, which I seasoned with their homemade curry and mustard, with the sourdough toast on the side. It wasn't just the breakfast I needed - it was the breakfast I _deserved_!
At first glance, Barb & Ernie's seems like an old school diner with a German gastropub vibe. On second glance, it seems a lot more like a restaurant past its prime in need of a serious deep clean and face lift.
The interior of the restaurant is dated, dusty, and mismatched, which fits the old diner vibe, but it feels a little too far gone to be kitschy.
The general vibe of Barb & Ernie's seems tired. The staff are alright, but seem a little lifeless.
I really wanted to love the food after seeing so many reviews raving about the eggs Benedict & pancakes. I was really disappointed to be handed a plate of cold eggs, bland Benedict sauce, and greasy hash browns. I'm not sure how you can mess up eggs, but these guys certainly do.
My friends had similar experiences with their meals - the pulled pork was swimming in barbeque sauce, completely obliterating the flavour of the pork, and the sausage was so hard you could chew it like beef jerky and barely make a dent.
This place has definitely fallen into disrepair both physically in terms of the actual restaurant space, but also with the menu which houses much room for disappointment.
I hope they can turn it around, but if this is the quality of food, service, and ambiance they continue to provide, I doubt they'll make it much longer.
Waited for about an hour for our food (German bacon pancakes were bland and half burnt) tried to get something else but after another 20 minutes of waiting just gave up and went home willing to give it another try tho as it seemed like they were just too busy to give the service/food quality I know they are capable of. They did remove the pancakes from the bill as well as having above average coffee which was nice.
Garbage food bad service had to try to chase the waitress down got salad same time main course came soup was spaghetti soup who ever heard of that more like mustgo soup what ever left over from yesterday mustgo very disappointing overrated after my awful meal I ended up stopping at dairy queen down the road
Amazing portions, great Schnitzel and lovely staff. Love the old school cottage inn vibes. We had their breakfast but we'll definitely come back for their Saturday buffet.
I crave these guys all the time. The omelets and beans are amazing. Also they are so friendly and make you feel at home. Best mom and pop shop around. You looking for Breakfast You can get it here anytime of the day.
Nice place with lots of character and patina. Great service and good prices. Good location. If u like halibut this is not the place to order it. Don't invite Gordon Ramsay
Very good food, and lits of it too. Both wife and I left feeling very full. Can be a busy place on weekends for the breakfast/brunch crowd. They have a great mustard for your food too.
I place an order for breakfast for the next day through their website, it was easy and efficient! (I want it to order everything! Specially their desserts) That's one thing then when we arrived we didn't had to wait! We were so excited for the food! We we're craving for a long time but covid didn't help! FOOD was AWESOME! Portions were huge We LOVE IT! Worth the drive from all the way from Leduc! Thank you!
The opening hours are slim, so check before you go!
Barb and Ernie's has delicious, house-made meatloaf, schnitzel, and other old-world Germanic recipes. The appetizer-greens were an unexpected treat that featured fresh vegetables, broccoli salad and pickled cabbage.a surprisingly tasty combo! The mushroom meatloaf had me reminiscing about childhood family meals, and I ate every one of those string beans, they were just that good!
Friendly staff and great service. By far the best homestyle food I've had in a long time. The portions are huge and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying their homemade curry ketchup and mustard!
