The new basement looks fantastic. Basement builders always kept us informed and up to date. No surprises or frustration on our side. All contractors we're friendly, respectful and the work was completed on schedule. There wasn't a single scratch of damage caused to the rest of property during construction. Highly recommended.

We lived with an undeveloped basement since 2009 and finally decided to the plunge! Having an older teen, we wanted to create a hang-out area for her/friends and a cozy family movie night space. Over the years we spent countless hours envisioning what we wanted our basement to look like but with zero reno experience we were nervous. We selected BB based on their reviews and Don who provided us with our floorplan and estimate sealed the deal. Our project started May 9th and ended Aug 18th, this included; a 12 foot media built-in, 7 foot bar, bathroom, open workout room. BB also replaced our poly b pipes and we hired them to replace our bedroom carpets to match our basement carpet.
The contractors/trades that came into our home were fantastic. All clearly skilled and master's at what they do. We enjoyed seeing the step-by-step process of developing a basement, we learned a lot! We appreciated Designer Kristina's expertise in helping us select carpet, paint, tiles, cabinetry etc, we love how it all came together. And Murray was available when we needed to reach out. BB is not a cheap option, but you get what you pay for and now that it is done you see/feel the quality and we appreciated the 3 step payment process. Once we complete the furnishings and media set up there will be a lot of great movie nights in our future!

We went for Basement Builders after comparing them up with another company that also had very good reviews. In the end we were very happy and relieved with our choice.
My wife was very worried about our home becoming a construction site for months on end but we were surprised at how considerate the different workers were about respecting our space and keeping things tidy as much as they could on the job and after they were done for the day.
Parts of our home have some unconventional angles but the guys were able to seamlessly integrate the design we wanted and really liven up a space that we ignored for so many years.
What we were most impressed with was that even a late change to some of our plans on our side was able to be accommodated by our supervisor. The communication was very good and they kept us informed of our options and gave us realistic projections and sensible prices throughout.

We used Basement Builders to finish our unfinished basement. We had gotten quotes from a couple other builders, we found them to be the most honest and straightforward with what could/could not be done. Pricing wasn’t the cheapest, but we were willing to pay a bit extra for a more established developer. We’re pretty sure this was the right call, as they were very professional, process was very well organized, customer service was very responsive and accommodating throughout. Quality of work was definitely pretty solid, most of the issues we had were fairly minor and they took care of them pretty quickly. One thing in particular we appreciated was that most of the sub-contracted services (framer, drywaller, tiler etc.) were professional and nice to deal with. Polite and kind to our kids on the odd occasion they bumped into one another. Small things, but they do go a long way.

This experience was stress free from start to finish. Communication was clear and open and all questions were answered promptly. The quality of the work is great and I'm very pleased with my new basement. Highly recommended this company.

Start to finish, the project was stress free, completed on time and on budget (actually slightly under). From management to trades crews they were very professional, clean/tidy and simply did outstanding work. We have engaged Basement Builders to develop our unfinished basement from the scratch. After initial walk around and planning the work started from March 1 2022 and ended on May 27th 2022, these dates were given to us upfront and schedule was met like a clock work. During the initial process we had an opportunity to go to BB's preferred vendors and pick up our bathroom accessories, wet bar accessories, tiles, flooring etc.the experience of that reminds us of CARDEL with whom we built our house, though Basement Builders are not so huge like CARDEL but there professionalism is at par and sometimes better. Throughout the process Murray, Chantel, Bryan was in constant touch with us and were very responsive when we wanted answers/actions. I would highly recommend Basement Builders for all and any kind of basement development, remodelling etc. Very happy with them overall!

When we decided to convert our unfinished basement into an active living space, like many others we searched online for contractors with favourable reviews. We also recently had a little one so I wanted a clean, fuss free turnkey solution.so after much research, we ended up going with Basement Builders.
After reviewing the contract, we made a conscious decision not to add any unnecessary scope that was made available through various upgrade options; we really wanted to keep things simple and uncomplicated. At the time, I also made enquiries around the contract to ensure expectations and interpretations were clear.

The initial phase went very well, there was a layout revision for an omission the developer missed but they came back with a great plan to incorporate the change. As time passed however, I first became concerned when there wasn’t much visible progress after we had just crossed the halfway mark (time wise). As the development forged ahead and the basement started to come alive, I only became more and more concerned but every time I raised this concern, I was assured everything was on track so I sat back and took detailed notes.

After the drywalling was up and primed, it became apparent that many of the walls appeared to be warped/not flat, which I raised in several emails and highlighted using a flashlight and straight edge to illustrate my point. It dawned on me that there were clearly quality issues around framing, this was noted in several areas, some more obvious than others. For example, when I installed my wall TV mount, some of the surrounding screw heads now stood proud because the framing wasn’t dimensionally flat, so the drywall wasn’t completely pulled in against the framing.

In retrospect, while I did reach out to the owners to raise the issue on several occasions, at the time I really should have been more assertive and insisted on the affected walls being completely redone. Instead, some general repairs were performed that mostly ended up being patch repairs and subsequently never resulted in a true flat surface. One wall was completely redone and it came out great.
At times some of the reasons given for the issues I was facing made sense, but at other time they did not. For example, my frost walls were blamed for uneven dry walling, a mute point when I pointed out that the main complaint I had were the new walls framed and drywalled. Other minor issues included shower doors initially being installed backwards, or cabinets not standing square (Both of which have now been correctly installed) or fireplace framing not level, it just felt like a lot of things were rushed in the end.
After several repairs, and while 90% of the basement truly looks great, it’s the other 10% that unfortunately catches my eye every time I enter it. For example, I attached a photo after the final repair attempt to my main lounge wall in the middle of my basement. Much improved after 3 or 4 re-repairs but still not on par with the rest of my house, which I used as a quality sanity check to benchmark the completed basement. I’ve also been in the projects game long enough to know when to call it a day so Items like this we’ve just taken the decision to remedy at our own expense and move on.

So, in summary, while this development was personally not a great experience for our family nor the outcome I was expecting, to their credit Basement Builders did stick to their quoted price which was really appreciated. I would also like to extend a special thanks to Ben for his assistance, who I felt genuinely tried to help and came out on several occasions to assist when things didn’t go as planned. With that being said, and while the end product definitely looks a lot better than it did 4 months ago, I think we were just unfortunate in this instance that we ended up getting the Friday car.

Great job all the way around. From the initial visits, through the process, and all the way to the end. Murray was easy going and didn’t mind answering any question that might have come up. The trades were great and respectful. Highly recommend.

Overall, a very professional experience. The initial quote/designer went through our needs, made suggestions but was also not pushy about certain add ons. Although the overall build went a little over schedule, the crews coming and going were quite good. They provided a point of contact for any questions, concerns and issues along the way. Everything was done as per the quote and I wasn't asked for anything more than that.

Our experience with Basement Builders was a 5 star journey from beginning to end. We used them to design and complete the basement development of our new home. I was so impressed at how well Don knew his costs. Throughout the design process he knew what different options and design features would cost, and was able to draw from a wealth of experience to advise on the functionality, benefits, drawbacks and trends surrounding different decisions. Saving us time and stress in the process.

At any point along the way when the project encountered something unforeseen and a decision needed to be made the team knew what needed to be done, how long it would take and how much it would cost at nearly the drop of a hat.

I've also never a group of subcontractors work so hard in all my life, I was impressed time and time again at their diligence to doing the job well.

Our project was completed on time with minimal cost creep for unforeseen changes (under 1%). They have made basement development a craft and they are masters at every aspect of it.

Basement Builders is a great contractor. They're professional and easy to work with. I got my basement developed earlier this year and everything went smoothly. They designed the layout to maximize the space and incorporate the needs all at the same time. I would strongly recommend them to anyone who needs to get their basement developed in a heart beat.

I had Basement Builders take my basement from bare to finished. They gave a fair quote, were very quick to get to work, and very good about making sure everything was done right and to make sure I was happy. They took the time to protect my floors, the trades people were courteous and the scheduling of each trade flowed very well so that some work was usually occurring on most days. Work began in November and was finished the second week of January. The only thing I would change is perhaps a more itemized list of what things cost so you have a better idea of cost for services. Also maybe a bit more flexibility when using materials that you already have so as to cut down on things bought and use up already existing materials. I understand that would cause issues with guarantees though. That being said I am happy with what was done and would recommend them.

Basement Builders are first rate all the way and professional from start to finish. The initial scope and estimate for our basement remodelling took place within 24 hours of initial contact. Basement builders completed our basement development four months ago and they are true to their word and support you following the development too. When the temperature outside recently hit -35 C in Calgary we had some challenges with a frozen pipe. Even though our basement was completed months ago they sent a plumber the same day to help us fix the issue! We were able to avoid a burst pipe and have minimal disruption to fix the issue. We had done a lot of repair/construction projects in the last few years and wanted a turnkey seamless process without the hassle of doing it ourselves or finding a contractor to do it. We met with basement builders and based on the initial meeting it was clear that they were incredibly thorough and made the whole process very easy on the homeowner.

The building process was fast, on time, and throughout they were very responsive with any and all concerns that came up.

We had been talking about finishing out basement for a few years before we selected Basement Builders due to various positive reviews and their expertise in basement development around town. Looking at their website gave us a really good idea of the breadth of projects that they have executed on and provided lots of ideas we could incorporate into our design.

Ben and Don looked after our project and we were extremely pleased with the service and transparency – they were always very quick to respond to phone/text messages and had no issues with myself being a bit more involved in the process. We put off finishing our basement for years thinking it was going to disrupt our lives too much. The basement builders took on my project that alot of people walked away from as it was too much of the "unknown" when ripping it apart. My home was built in 1972 and only partially developed.
The basement builders quoted me at a fair price, promising no issues.
Which is 100% true! If you want a company that gives you a headache free reno, this is the company for you! Every issue they ran into, was fixed without hesitation. Matt and Ben are quick to answer your questions day or night. All there contractors were very respectful of my home and with the noise considering I have 2 dogs a cat and a partner that works nights. I'm very happy with Basement Builders and I'm pretty picky when it comes to my home.

I wanted my basement completely renovated (had bare floors and no interior walls) but I didn’t even know where to start. Basement Builders arrived for a quote and in only a few minutes, using laser technology and an iPad, they produced a to-scale, detailed blueprint of the entire project (very professional)! The professionalism continued throughout the project and they really paid attention to “detail” as a custom-made shower was modified to fit under my staircase in the new bathroom, as well as adding a bedroom and living room. The finish of the new ceiling was superb along with smooth walls and a beautiful paint-job throughout. I appreciated the quick response from (owner) Mathew on texts, email and phone calls for all my inquiries. Basement Builders took care of everything from getting the proper inspections/permits to hauling all the trash and having a final clean-up crew to even clean the windows! This attention to detail is what sets apart the “excellent” contractors from the “good” contractors and Basement Builders is definitely top tier. I highly recommend them.

I never planned on getting our basement developed in the new year. It was something that I’ve always wanted to do ever since we bought our house three years ago. After meeting with Matt and Ben, we decided to move forward after the estimate. I created a concept of what I wanted and Matt and Ben orchestrated the masterpiece.

Matt and Ben care about their company and it shows. All the trades that were involved; from the framers to the drywall to the painters, electricians to the hvac guys; were all phenomenal. They work clean and showed a great deal of respect towards our property and to us the homeowners. We appreciated everybody who was involved.

Every time an issue would arise, Matt would always respond within minutes and the issue would be resolved immediately. His business is the type that you want to have because he’s always on top of things.

From the beginning, Matt and Ben were very responsive. They came out to our house for the initial assessment and created blueprints as we walked through the basement. Throughout the building process, they remained very responsiveness. Any issues that arose were taken care of quickly. All of the contractors that we encountered were very pleasant to deal with and very respectful of our house. That being said, we were rarely contacted by any workers as they dealt directly with Matt and Ben. The quality of work is excellent and we are very happy with the final product. We have received numerous compliments on the basement and are already enjoying the great new addition to the house. I would use them again without hesitation.

Basement Builders were an awesome pick right from the initial call for quote through to the end of the job. Matt and Ben showed up to quote and were very professional, offering recommendations from previous jobs and an immediate sketch on a tablet to let you see how it will look. Once a date was set, we seen immediate action with the trades getting right down to work. There was always at least one crew working on the various pieces of the job and we were also very impressed with the timeline, nearly completing the basement on the exact date on the quote. The end job was just as professional with the few minor deficiencies, Matt had someone working on it immediately and all was cleared up within days. Matt even came to inspect after all was complete with sincerely telling us that if there is anything we notice after we move down he will be back to correct as well as honouring the 5 year warranty.
