This review is for the Summer Cottage. This review is also on TA.

We arrived here on what was almost the hottest day recorded for Jasper at 30°C. After checking in, we drove the car to the front of our Summer Cottage number 12 and opened the front door to be greeted by the most intense heat ever. We opened all the windows and turned the fan they provided on to try and cool the room down. We knew there was no a/c and this was not a problem. Our second day was even hotter at 33°C but by keeping the curtains closed when we were out, this helped a little.

If you are considering booking this accommodation, here are some points to note:
• The Summer Cottages are small. And when I say small, I mean very small.
• There is no storage for clothes - no drawers and a couple of pegs on the wall to hand a couple of items. We were here for 3 nights and I do not recommend this lodge type for any more than one night, 2 at a push.
• There is no fridge in this cottage and in the height of the summer, this is not ideal. We found a way round this by filling the recycling bin (from outside the cottage) with ice and putting our bottles of water in it to keep them cool.
• The quilt on the bed was the UK equivalent of either a 9 tog or 10.5 tog and is far too heavy. In the summer months, a top sheet and a light (ish) blanket or 2 for the cooler nights would be more than sufficient. We took the quilt out of its cover and used that. Temperatures overnight for us were around mid-teens.
• The kettle and cups etc are located on a table near the bathroom door, however, there is no power socket there to use it. The nearest socket is either on the floor where the TV is plugged in, or by the sofa bed (not sure why this is in a room so small) at the end of the room.
• There are no power sockets located either side of the bed. Actually, there are very few accessible power sockets located in this cottage.
• You need long arms to be able to get the toilet paper.

The cottage could be improved by removing the sofa bed and replacing this with a countertop with possibly a small fridge underneath and perhaps some drawers. The kettle would then be more accessible and safer to use.

Location wise, the town is a 15-20 minute flat walk. It is also free to park your car on site and on the nearby local roads. There are parking charges the nearer you get to town.

All accommodation in Jasper is expensive, as is most of Canada, but I think you get poor value for this cottage against what is provided. However, I would recommend Bear Hill Lodge as a place to stay, but from a value for money point of view, if you are staying more than one night and can afford to, book a different style lodge.

Nice cabins of all sizes, from a small one to accommodate 2 people, to a large one for entire families.
No air conditioning but you probably won't need it as the night gets cool, just open the windows.
The best feature is the location at the edge of town, so you'll have better chances to seeing wildlife. There was a wild elk that was just hanging out right outside our room as we opened our door.
Ice machine and coin operated laundry available at the main building/office. There's also a microwave at the main office that you could use. Obviously no breakfast provided since this is a cabin type of situation.
There's also fireplace and you can buy firewood at the office.
Bathroom is clean.

We enjoyed our stay in Bear Hill Lodge. Kateryna helped us with the check in. She was professional and very helpful.

Our lodge room was cosy, clean with the beautiful view of the mountains.

We will definitely stay again at Bear Hill Lodge, should we be given the chance to visit Jasper again.

It is really cozy place to stay! Room is very clean and well designed! I am so glad that we booked here! My family loved it. Definitely will come here when we visit again.

Great place to stay, right in the town of Jasper. Lovely cottages, several new ones under construction. I would have given 5 stars, but for the noise and congestion - these will be gone by a year or less. I also wished they had a BBQ to use, but apparently these are all put away for now. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in the family friendly joint suite (#45,46). There was plenty of space for our interaction. Both suites had kitchens, adequate for our needs, well stocked. Great beds and lots of bathrooms. You will not go wrong in this place.

Beautiful well kept property with beautiful gardens. Cabins are extremely clean. Located just a 5 minute walk to town. Our suite had a wood burning fireplace, but it was very warm out, so we couldn't use. Will have to come back in the fall/winter so we can use it. Firewood available at front desk for $9.00.

Schöne und geräumige Cabins. Nr 22 reicht locker für 2 Personen. Gutes bequemes Bett, sehr sauber.

Great value.

Cons: rooms on the ground level means you can hear cars loudly drive through and requires you to draw the curtains constantly. No sheers/only blackout curtains made it super dark often during the day.

Pros: so clean! Great bed! Loved the gas-burning fireplace. Wonderful to walk into Jasper. Super nice staff. Newer washer-dryer option and well appointed kitchen. Hot shower with great water pressure.

We spent about 10 days in the Rockies and wanted to break up the camping with a hotel. We stayed in a room vs the cabin because the prices were a bit better with our budget.

The room was tastfully decorated and was clean, albeit a bit small. No breakfast. I think keeping in mind prices in the national parks, this hotel was fine. No real concerns, just a bit expensive for what you get.

Location was fantastic. We walked into town for dinner both nights.

My family and I loved Bear Hill Lodge! Our lovely little cabin was comfortable, clean, and stocked with all the essentials we needed to feel at home. The location in Jasper is also amazing! It’s an easy walk to the main street and all the shops and restaurants. My children were delighted to find a couple great playgrounds within walking distance nearby, and we saw an elk in the backyard! Truly a wonderful stay. I would recommend Bear Hill Lodge to anyone traveling to Jasper!

We stayed in a small cabin. It was clean and cozy. The kitchen was a bit tiny but it was functional. When we checked in the lady told us to make sure we always carry our room key at night as the door automatically locks and after 9: 30 no staff would be available on site. One night a drunk lady locked herself out and shouted and knocked on the laundry facility door around 1: 30 am for about an hour. Obviously this lady didn't read the welcome pamphlet. It said there was an emergency phone to contact the owner. The owner came very quickly and resolved the problem once the drunk lady figured it out.

Great little cabin. It was a nice alternative to the hotels we normally stay at. A hot tub or pool would have made it perfect.
05 March 2022 17:09
Really nice cabins and flawless service! Great for a family with young kids as the cabins are free standing (less noice concerns).

Found lots of hair from previous guests in bathtoom. When you have a wood burning fireplace in the cabin then supply the wood and don t make guests pay for it. For 240$ a night it should be includet. Pretty tight property so maybe don t bring the dually long box. Cabins could use some renovation specially bathrooms. They poorly fixed some issues with caulcing. WE WILL NOT COME BACK.

The location it great, walking distance to the main street. We rented a studio cabin, cute and cozy. Open concept with a small kitchen. The electric fire place was great. Unfortunately our hot water didn't work in our unit and they very quickly upgraded us to a larger cabin. The new cabin was very spacious, master bedroom, full kitchen, loft with twin beds, 2 bathrooms. Heated floors in the bathroom were great. All the kitchen plates and cookwear we needed. We look forward to coming back in the summer!

We have nothing but amazing things to say about our recent stay at bear hill lodge. We stayed in cabin 42 which was cozy but spacious and had absolutely everything we needed! The staff are so helpful and friendly, and the grounds back right onto trails for hiking and biking. You can also spot the elk around which was super magical. Our room had a small gas fireplace that kept the cabin very warm, and every other detail was taken care of ️ Close to the town, short walk to the bakery and all other attractions!
Can’t wait to come back and stay again!
Thank you bear hill and team!

We keep coming back. Lots of different rooms and cabins. Within walking distance of town but quiet and every now and then you see wildlife
05 August 2021 0:56
The staff here are so nice and accommodating. I arrived with an EV and the manager made sure to place me at a parking spot close to a plug. Also, the free breakfast delivered to your room in the morning is such a sweet gesture. Highly recommend staying here!

Great location
Cozy atmosphere
Good for cooking but some things like the spatula provided was flimsy and already broken.
Overall pretty clean except there were hairs on many of the towels that didn't belong to us. There was also a white/blond hair on a pot handle.
The high chair was also not clean but it was nice they provided it.
The sheets for the playpen seemed old.
Very nice to get away from the city.
Only saw someone at check in for maybe 3 min or so. Otherwise can't comment on customer service since it wasn't applicable.

Always a great stay at Bear Hill Lodge. The cabins are clean and well maintained. Especially so during covid times. It was nice to get out from Edmonton for a change of scenery and to relax in the red chairs. Nice to see that the owners always seem to be making incremental improvements throughout the property.

Stayed in the Studio Cabin (#21). It was fantastic! The room was very clean and well kept. Comes with everything you need for a short stay. The staff were very accommodating. The lodge itself is in a great central location, easy to get into town or launch your adventure in the area. There was a small breakfast which was delivered daily which was a good value. Their red chairs outside are comfortable and perfect to sit out and enjoy some sunshine with a drink! Would definitely stay here again, and recommend anyone else to as well!
17 May 2021 22:12
Lovely spot. Can see the mountains, the wildlife and enjoying a wood burning fire in our cabin. Would stay here again.

Amazing place to stay. Cabin was super clean. Check in services were great. We will be coming back for sure
21 March 2021 20:20
My wife and I are staying at the lodge for 4 nights. Awesome place for a vacation in Jasper. The chalet were staying in is super clean and we couldn't be happier picking this location for our little get away
13 March 2021 10:11
Great little cabins in Jasper. Cute and cozy with all the amenities including a kitchenette and fireplace. Quiet, clean, peaceful and private. What a great place. I really want to give it five stars but the toilet paper is absolutely horrendous. Minus one star for drawing first blood, I'm down a pint now. At first I thought it was one ply organic twigs included toilet paper. After closer inspection this is now what I believe to be industrial half ply 80 grit toilet paper. I have wiped with softer pinecones before. Turn this hidden gem into a 5 star cabin with a roll of Charmin. You and your cutter deserve it.

Bear Hill Lodge - a gem in Jasper!

So impressed with this place. It was extremely clean, and followed COVID protocols to make everyone feel comfortable. It has a wood burning fireplace place in a cabin setting that really added to the mountain experience. Friendly staff make this my number one choice in Jasper!
29 November 2020 6:16
Very cozy and clean amenities. Nice for the time we stayed. Gets 4 instead of 5 stars because at 7am on Sunday morning there was a construction truck beeping outside of our little cabin, and the sound proofing between the shared wall isn't the best (we could hear the people next door showering) on vacation that's not ideal. I'd still come back though! I'd like to see their other cabins.
18 November 2020 3:31
We had a two night stay here and would return. The first night we were in the basic cabin and upgraded to the queen for the 2 day. Most definitely worth the extra money. The location is good if you want to walk to downtown restaurants or bars. Yet it doesn’t feel right in the bustle either.

The customer service was great. Guy at the front desk was super cool about us changing cabins in the middle of the day.

The rooms were clean and sanitized.
31 October 2020 2:26
The cabin we stayed in was awesome. Main floor had two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Upstairs had a bathroom, living room, eating area with bench seating and a full kitchen.

My husband and I stayed at Bear Hill Lodge on the September long weekend, we stayed in one of the Forest Cottages that I believe are only available seasonally.
The property was right in town and walk-able to the downtown shops and restaurants (10 - 15 mins). The cottage itself was small but perfectly functional for the two of us, I would not recommend more then two people in that room. Everything was very clean and their COVID protocols clearly explained prior to arrival.
The only downfall we had was our neighbors sat outside at their picnic table chain-smoking for a couple of hours and the smoke blew straight into our cabin so we could not have any windows open. It would have been nice to be able to have the windows open but the fan they provided worked as a nice alternative. It would be beneficial if they had a designated smoking area away from any cabin windows.

Such a lovely studio-cabin.a forest view.

Great value for Jasper.only 30 dollars more than the average hotel!
05 October 2020 19:39
Lovely cozy cabins with great views. The elk grazing on the grass outside our cabin, made the experience even more enjoyable. However the queen size bed we had was a bit hard for me. Other then that, very clean and overall a great experience!
01 October 2020 16:17
Cleaning is a special request during covid. Cabins are fantastic, spacious, and cozy. Kitchenettes are missing a few necessities. All washrooms in bedrooms should have a latch to keep the doors closed.
21 September 2020 11:00
Stayed 2 nights in August. Great as they were your own semi private "hut" with assigned parking right out front your door. Decent location, 10-15 minute walk to the main street in Jasper. Comfortable bed and pillows. They had 2 wine glasses provided which was great as we could bring our own wine and enjoy it out of a glass instead of a cup.
Was +30 degrees during the time we spent and the fireplace pilot light seemed to provide continuous heat which wasn't ideal. They provided a very low powered fan. Had to sleep with all the windows open. No fridge available, so you can't bring your own perishable food. Lots of dead bugs and cobwebs in the window screens and light fixtures (obviously not cleaned/dusted inbetween customer stays). They only had 4 plugs in the cabin, 2 by the tv which were being used by the tv and fan. And 2 by the couch. No plugs even remotely close to the bed which was a bit of an annoyance. People need to set alarms and charge phones and camera batteries while away, so it wasn't an ideal set up.

Overall an average stay but could probably find a nicer more well kept and new place for a similar price point.

If you like your own private cabin with your dogs in tow, right in the town of Jasper, then this the get-away for you!
17 September 2020 1:37
We stayed at the Bear Hill Lodge September 2020. We had one of the smaller units but it was extremely comfy, cozy and clean. The owner and staff are amazing. Would diffenitly stay here again and will refer to our friends.
12 September 2020 14:58
We luckily reserved the last cabin available and weren't disappointed. Awesome well cared for cabins and a friendly staff made it an easy choice to return. Easy to find and close to everything.
01 September 2020 16:00
Better options may be available at the same price. We would not recommend this place due to their lax customer service.

On our first night, we could not get the fireplace to work nor could we reach the front desk (since they close after 9.30pm). We spent the very cold night (around 9 degrees) without any heating. Found out the next day that the fireplace pilot was not turned on, something that could easily be checked by the staff after every guest leaves and before another arrives. A staff had to enter our room, who didn't take their shoes off and didn't wear gloves, to open the fireplace cover, to turn on a button. Clearly an inconvenience during the pandemic.

Through our 2 night stay we were able to reach someone at the front office 1 out of 5 times we called. No one called back either.

As for the location, it's right in downtown Jasper. We found that this provides equal access to most attractions in the area. The tradeoff is that the area around the lodge is not very scenic.

The rooms were as advertised. It seems like the lodge is taking some measures to keep guests safe during the pandemic (ex: self check-out, some parts of the check-in process are online, sanitizing the room before hand, etc.). Based on our experience in other hotels, they can do more.
01 July 2020 20:33
The rooms are very small, we found more than one thing broken. Ex. A chair, the sink was clogged, the faucet was finicky. The rooms themselves were made smaller than you would expect for the price, you might not want to go there during the regular season. The prices are very high for what they offer. We decided we will not book with them again. Overall, we didn't not like the accomodation. Sorry, but it's just not what we expected compared to what the room layouts on the website looks like.
03 March 2020 3:10
Stayed for 5 nights and couldn't be happier with my time there. The rooms are large, clean and quiet. The lodge itself is on the edge of town but very easy to get to, and its location makes for a calm, peaceful experience. You also have absolutely stunning views of the mountains, particularly if you walk down the street a little bit. It's about 15 minutes to walk to the main stretch of Jasper and the train station, or you can take a few minutes more and walk through the backstreets. Jasper is safe so no worries about the walk.

It's been -30C in Jasper this past week but I was toasty warm in the room. There is a wood-burning fireplace if you need more warmth; $10 gets you plenty of wood and kindling to keep you going for probably a few days. The beds are very comfy.

The rooms are well-supplied with plenty of towels and toiletries. Housekeeping don't start at the crack of dawn like most places, so you have a chance to sleep in if you want to. Much appreciated! I stayed in one of the fourplex rooms but no issue at all with hearing my neighbours. Everything is just so quiet. The staff here are lovely and super helpful if you need anything.

Next time I'm in Jasper this will be my only choice. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
11 February 2020 14:56
We loved staying here on our last minute trip to Jasper earlier this year! It's very cute & cozy. We'd definitely stay here again!
27 January 2020 16:49
Stayed in a fourplex building. Room was OK but expensive considering the small space, shared walls/noise and lack of amenities. Mini fridge available but no microwave. Wood and kindling for fireplace both cost extra. Nice location but not sure I'd be back - at least not in the fourplex.

Cosy two bed cottage. Elks visit every evening.the herd is very gentle, so not intimidating. The laundrette on site was very handy. The staff are professional and the cleaning girls were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend it.
20 November 2019 5:02
The lodge is fine, but not wonderful. I had to ask 2 days in a row for a top sheet for my bed and never got it. The front desk staff bordered on rude. The suite we got was really nice, except for the small bedrooms and no storage place. There are better places to stay in Jasper.
08 October 2019 5:03
We did a 3 week road trip in July this year and bear hill lodge was our favourate accomodation. The people were friendly and helpful, the cabin was immaculate and had everything we wanted. Only a short walk to town and its flat. I would recommend them to everyone. Its the place to stay in Jasper!
24 September 2019 8:14

Awesome, very cosy, modern, well-equipped lodges; great room service; washing facilities (washing machine and dryer) ; very friendly staff; not far away from city centre
