Good place to get Indian groceries. But little pricy from all other place. Usually I check all big grocery shops and still if I could get it, I come to Bombay spices.
When you run a business the top things are organized stuff, unexpired items and very important customer service which this place does not offer at all. Clearly a terrible business owner. I see lots of negative reviews already and the reponse to those reviews by owner are very unprofessional and have a harsh tone in it. These owners if behaved and ran a business like this in India surely would be trashed.
The staff is extremely rude, unprofessional and seems like they are working forcefully.
Its like we are running this business and we are bringing all the items so we will do whatever we want to do rather than creating a professional environment. Well we are customer, we pay you, your business runs on customers so if you want to continue like this than surely this will go down in gutter.
This is the nearest Indian grocery shop from downtown, which has a variety of products from India. It's a useful shop. The price would be a bit high. Comparatively less south Indian products would be there.
Note: Try to visit on the weekends, as the stock arrives on Friday every week.
Bombay Spices is a nice Indian grocery store that keeps stock of almost everything that is required for Indian cuisine.
All the gourmet packaged and bottled food items, such as a variety of flours, rice, sugars, oils, legumes, jaggery, papads, spices, and ready-to-eat snacks of well-known companies of India and a few of Canada (for example: Surati snacks) are well identified and organized in spacious aisles.
Moreover, the farm produce, also imported from India, is usually fresh and in abundance if you visit the store on Friday or Saturday mornings since on those days the store gets deliveries.
After 24 years in Toronto, recently we have moved to Calgary. In 4.5 months, we have visited this store several times and found the staff friendly and helpful; have not seen any employee misbehaving with anyone.
Flaws: We have noticed that prices of most items and produce are significantly higher than they were in the greater Toronto area. All products must be ethically priced without a tendency of taking undue advantage of people who depend on and trust you.
The store has displayed notice on the entrance that there is no public washroom available in the store; nevertheless, in my view, the employees/owners should be liberal and behave like good human beings when some customers - especially children, elderly people, and diabetics - have an emergency and cannot control.
Instead of adhering to the rules and making a big fuss, they need to cooperate and handle the situation patiently and tactfully.
The ugly experience of the mother of a child (I read in the review of Mr. Niraj Kakadiya) could have been avoided at any cost. A wise businessperson would avert such occurrences, for there is absolutely no benefit in hostile behavior and losing the customer/s for ever.
I gave five stars for all the pros and hope the management will pay attention to genuine complaints of customers and improve upon their cons.
Bombay spice I recommend to everyone because your Indian spice, snacks, cereals and all things what you use to cooking your all kinds of spices you find there.
Abundance of spices, curry powders, dried/non-perishable goods, snacks, tea etc. There are some household items and other miscellaneous. I don’t think they seem to carry as much fresh produce. I asked for help finding some items and the employee knew which aisle/section to find it and was friendly.
No proper organize I was looking for rice but there is no price tag & a month ago I bought for my kid falooda in bottle it’s look like chemical in it I don’t believe in Canada also all mix
The staff is very rude. They don’t know how to talk to customers. I just asked him for a plastic bag and he reply so rudely that I should have told him before. There are many Indian stores in the city. Avoid this place at any cost. Reply: The rude part was that the guy behind the cashier asked in a very rudely manner that I should have asked the cashier before and made angry expressions. When cashier asked me if I need a bag, I said no. But immediately I changed my mind and said yes, I would like to have a bag, which the cashier might not have listened. I didn’t even ask for a free bag. I didn’t deny to pay for your bag. That guy didn’t need to talk in such an angry way.
I found this store ridiculously expensive. Every item is overpriced. We bought some Gujarati snack items and paid $80 for them. The box of 4 pieces of Adhirasa/Gujiya is for $7.5 350gms Fafda for $10 What a joke!
Edit after owner's comment on my review-
I don't have time to find cheaper products just to get any free items from this store. As a customer, I just want the products to be priced well.
I would ask owner to have some business ethics and price each item ethically and reasonably and not ripping off customer's pockets for his own gains and benefits.
Best ever indian groceries store in calgary and surrounding areas…. Excellent customer services and friendly staff…quality is guaranteed for sure…highly recommended…
I wish if i could give rating less then this, it’s because of eateries like you that we loose our taste buds completely and we start disliking the food we love. Upset the way you cooked and served samosa chat today, uncooked oil, poured water in the name of curd, no chana or any addons. If your ingredients were over, you could have asked for change of item. One of our team member vomit after having this pathetic samosa chat. In case you are wondering where did it happened, It happened today during Taste of Calgary festival in Princess Island. Please be honest in your services, when we see Indian eatery point we have high hopes. We were already living under the trauma of pathetic Gulab Jamun by a Pakistani Eatery point in downtown, and this is the second hit within a Month. Please be honest.
Excellent place to buy Indian ready made snacks and grocery items. Not congested like other typical East Indian Stores. Short on vegetables. Well organised and clean.
Big store with a lot of Indian grocery products. Prices are high as usual at any Indian store as compared to other Canadian stores. Products on sale or clearance are mostly those which are about to expire or at the end of its life so be careful while grabbing clearance or On Sale products.
I really like that they have a variety of Indian brands that others don't carry BUT I am extremely disappointed with the Alphonso mangoes! I don't mind paying $45 for a box of 12 but is it too much to expect decent quality? I even left the mangoes in the carton to ripen further but I am on my 5th mango and yet to see a ripe one! They are raw and sour in the middle. So what's the point of paying full price when you hardly get half decent mangoes? I have given a 3 star rating because overall I like the store but hope they make sure their mangoes live upto the hype in future.
Very good grocerry store locatef at NE of calgary. One can hop in by car or by transit easily. Variety of food products are available along with pooja saman, sabjis, frozen paratha's and much more.
The best thing is they have fresh Indian vegetables. Great customer service and assistance in finding products. Most of the Indian food products are available having best quality and varieties at good price. All in all, best Indian grocery store in Calgary.
Products are sold at way higher prices than Walmart. Pillsberry whole wheat flour 20 lb which is $11.00 at Walmart, the same product is sold at $19.99. Good things about the store is it's location and wide variety of products which are not available in other Indian store are available here, but at higher prices. The bad thing is product expiry are closer, most items would not have price tags or missing price tags. I would suggest, if you looking for some products, please spend some extra time at Walmart and super store and later visit this store to get them if you cannot find them at Walmart and superstore. You could save lot.
I was waiting for my order to be delivered yesterday till 10 PM. But there is no response from your team which was heights of unprofessionalism.
When you confirm your own that you would be delivering on Sunday but you don't show up because of any xyz reason. Also, you didn't mind informing your valued customer.
It's sad and I hope I will never do business again with such people who never care their customers.
It was great experience of shopping. The price and quality of the groceries are really good. And the people are there is really polite and having grt response to customers.
Caution: This store has many Indian items but check the EXPIRY DATE carefully since many items have additional sticker sticked to item which is a modification to the actual expiry date. We have bought some items and later we realised that every item has some additional sticker sticked to hide the original EXPIRY DATE.
Loved your store when I was staying back in Calgary. Got basically everything that we needed. Now that I have moved to Vancouer, its hard to find a lot of stuff here. Just fed up of all the punjabi grocery stores only selling punjabi stuff. Any plans of coming in to Vancouer anytime guys?
Best Grocery store in town. Gujrati grocery is full with delicacies.lots of frozen variety, flour, fried snacks, roti's thepale, khakhras, papads, vegetables are all fresh and delisicous.please enjoy gujrati fresh varieties of SAMOSA, KHAMAN very tasty made same morning
Authentic Indian grocery store whicj has all the East Indian provisions. Green leafy vegetables which is rare to find in Calgary and other exotic items are available. They do home delivery anywhere in Calgary for a minimal charge.
