Boom-Boom Ramen House

Best Ramen in all of Calgary moved here in 2018 and I’ve found a place I want to return to. Better than Shiki Menya and Muku Japanese Ramen.

Each time I have gone to Chicking YYC Ramen the experience has been great. The food is amazing (The Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen being my absolute favourite so far) the staff are very kind and helpful, and the atmosphere is really pleasant too. Will recommend to friends and family. Easily one of the best ramen shops in town!

Very good food! I really recommend the volcano. Service here is amazing, very nice server. The location is very interesting, it seems as if it were a house before but the inside was changed into the layout of a mini restaurant. The ice-cream is also amazing as the ice-cream is very smooth and dango is very chewy and really reminds me of the ones i had in Japan. Very good food.

This place was so hyped up in a local foodie FB group so I had to give it a try. I truly hope it was a one off because the ramen was just not good. Unfortunately my char sui chunk was cold when I bit into it. The gyoza was tasteless. The server was really sweet though and we still tipped 25% regardless of the disappointing food.

The table layout could use some work. I know the bathrooms are situated awkwardly and they can’t change that but it was hard to navigate around tables in the corner with the giant plants taking up much of the space.

Hoping it was a one off. Not sure I’d go back knowing there are a lot of other amazing ramen joints in Calgary.

Fairly mediocre experience. The worst part about it was the food. In pictures the food looks good, but wasn't too good. The ramen noodles were still clumped up. Rice in the donburi bowls were also clumped up. The ahi tuna poke had warm, not fresh tuna. The chicken karage was bland. Broth didn't have good flavor.

The ChicKing felt bland to me and I personally would not order it again, though it was unique to have a pizza inspired ramen with tomato. I really enjoyed the tonkotsu which was fatty and rich with real pork bone flavour. The egg and chashu were both well marinated & the level of sweet/savoury that I enjoy. A very decent Calgary ramen shop!

Clean and comfortable atmosphere:) very friendly people here. Garlic chicken rice was tasty!

Must try! We had the Tokyo Shoyu, ChicKing ramen, and gyoza. The ramen broth was light and super tasty. The service was incredible as well!

We were in the neighborhood and stopped into Boom Boom for lunch.

There were no other customers, so we got seated right away. The staff was very friendly and attentive; we were greeted by each of the staff members. The restaurant was very clean and bright with lots of seating options.

We ordered green tea, expecting it to come in a pot, however we were each given a small coffee mug, only 3/4 full of hot water. The tea itself was from Britain, not Japan, which was also disappointing.

We each ordered tonkotsu ramen. It was well presented, but very small portions. The broth was flavourful but very greasy, which in turn made the noodles greasy. The noodles were well cooked and had good bite to them. The seasoned egg was also very good and the yolk was not runny.

My husband opted to add extra pork to his ramen. It was $3.50 for extra chasu, which turned out to be only one additional small, thin piece.

I typically like to substitute the pork for chicken in my ramen, however they did not have any chicken on the menu or available for substitutions. This really surprised me, as it seems they have changed their name to "Chicking"?

Overall, it was a unique spot and we are glad we tried it, but we both agreed we wouldn't return.

Delicious ramen, great price and service. The curry they used to have was my favorite, but they still have my favorite tonkatsu ramen.:)

Cute little ramen shop on Centre street. It was pretty quiet when I went (Wednesday 6pm ish), but the space is decently sized and the service was quick and really nice.

I got the spicy tomato ramen which was very interesting! I've never had tomato based ramen before, so I enjoyed the experience. It was kind of like tomato soup plus tonkotsu ramen, but well executed. The soup was also super rich, which I love. The marinated egg was delicious, even if boiled a touch too long, and there were a good variety of veggie toppings. The chasiu wasn't my favourite though and there was only one small slice.

Delicious ramen at wicked prices. There's a lot of depth and flavour to the broth and the noodles are a perfect texture. Chashu is cooked well. Also, I challenge you to find a friendlier customer service experience. This will be my go-to ramen spot from now on!

First of all, this is probably the worst meal I've had all year. We ordered 3 bowls of ramen. All 3 bowls came out luke warm at best and the anemic portioned noodles were undercooked. Honestly seems like they put together pre-made ramen packs and threw in some extras but couldn't even get that right. This is under new ownership and is nothing compared to what was being served previously. Avoid this place.

Revisited this ramen shop after new ownership took over, the hells Chili ramen thankfully stayed to its original taste, however the Karage was extremely soggy and we had to ask to get it refried longer and still came back soggy, the takoyaki was also soggy and borderline under cooked. Disappointed with this change but will retry in the future, mainly for the ramen

Ordered their karrage chicken, tonkotsu ramen & miso ramen.

Karrage chicken was delicious. Both ramen dishes were good! Broth is rich and flavourful!

Portions are just small. You get 1 thin slice of pork (I was expecting maybe 2 slices) Other than that, it was a good experience. Staff are super kind too.

Very nice service. The ramen was great and reasonably priced. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer and those were undercooked/not very good.

Recently reopened as Chickingyyc with the same recipes as the old Boom Boom Ramen restaurant but under new management and a new name. Food was as good as before. The room is a little cramped though. Service was good and the new owner visited our table to make sure that everything was fine.

I was so excited to try this new Ramen joint. Sadly myself and 2 guests all got medium warm broth in our soups. It should be hot! Disappointed. Very friendly staff though, and cute place.

I have tried dozens of ramen places in calgary, and this is certainly in the top 10.

This is a really great restaurant. The food is excellent and the prices are really low. The size of the ramen bowls is a little smaller than at some restaurants, but they're still a good size and even after adding in some extras (get that extra egg!) it still comes out cheaper than at other places. The takoyaki is amazing. Our service was very good too.

Just bear in mind that this is a tiny little restaurant. Don't show up with 15 people and expect to all be seated together and get instant service. But great for a couple, small family or small group of friends.

Excellent value and super delicious with vegan options too! Tonkotsu ramen and side katsu curry don so delish! If you are a meat lover I would recommend adding extra chashu but the price is so reasonable it is definitely worth it!

A very nice, small Ramen house. The prices are super cheap and the ramen and side dishes are excellent. The food came out real fast and with great service too.

Applied and got a response back two days later asking to come in for an interview but no time or date was specified. I called in a few days later to ask when they were available but the times they gave me didn't work for me. I asked if they had any other days I could come in for and they said they'd call me back, I never got a call back and when I called back they said they already hired enough people already. So unfair

Fantastic ramen place, ordered boom boom ramen noodles love the flavor and the portion, light and crunchy chicken was an excellent compliment to the ramen. Will come back for other shoyu and tonkatsu flavour

Great ramen at great prices. Really happy to have a good ramen spot so close to home. Will be visiting often.

Ordered spicy and shoyu ramen, onigiri, chicken karaage and takoyaki. Taste and quality are excellent! Tick 1 start off because we never felt welcomed by the melancholic waiter even though my family was the only customers around. I still left a tip.

Personally, not a huge fan of ramen. I used to work as FOH staff in a ramen restaurant in London, UK. Despite employees getting free food, I think I only ate the ramen maybe once or twice, and I worked there over a year. Lol. Although I don't like ramen, I felt that the ramen soups are not bad, we got the signature and the chilli. I think the tomato-based soup is quite unique, don't often see that for Japanese cuisine.

The pricing is good. Portions are smaller than what you would get in North America, but this is very standard for Asian portions. It's perfect for my bf and I cause we prefer variety and we normally cannot finish. The menu is small but it's good enough. I like the option for tiny donburis because I don't like ramen. Unagi is so hard to find in Calgary and they have it! On top of that, they're a small Japanese family business, I asked if I could pick my noodle firmness and they said yes! Yay! We will come back to try the Takoyaki because I cannot find decent ones in Calgary!: D Would love to see a larger menu. Maybe okonomiyaki, ebiyaki, yakitori? <3

Easily one of the best ramen I have had in Calgary so far. And very affordable too. The noodle is bouncy which makes slurpring all the more satisfying. The broth is rich yet refined. I ordered Hell’s chilli but it was not very spicy. Will definitely come back again.

If you want an affordable, simple bowl of authentic ramen this is the place to go. Boom boom has your standard Shoyu, Tonkotsu broths and also features a unique Tomato based broth if you're into that.

However Ramen specialty restaurants have come a long way in Canada and if you're looking for something more gourmet that packs a punch in flavor or will keep you coming back over and over for it's taste there are other ramen joints I'd recommend.

Complex flavours and unconventional soup options without comprising the rich classic tonkotsu base. Highly recommend

Vegan ramen soup was not well developed. It was water and thin. Just taste like salt water. The beancurd wrapper sushi was pre-made. They microwaved it back up. It was beyond streaming hot when it got brought to our table. Not to mention the flavors clashed and tasted awful.

This was the first ramen we had after moving back to Calgary. Nice little place. Unfortunately they were out of the first few items we ordered, they must have been really good. Unfortunately we didn't get to taste them. We got two different Ramens and they were quite yummy.

Very impressed with Boom Boom. The menu is simple but delicious. Great tonkotsu broth and karrage.

We had a great experience. We love the hell's chilli ramen and tonkatsu ramen. The broth was delicious and balanced. The noddles was the right texture. The meat is okay but the egg and the vegetables made up for it. The ramens are $10.00. We also, ordered a couple of their sides and enjoyed them. The service was friendly and the washroom was very clean. We'll definitely come back.

Small restaurant, with a parking in the back alley. The atmosphere inside seems very authentic and the staff also made me feel like it was the real deal. We tried the hell’s chili ramen and they were incredible. This flavour is little bit spicy but nothing overwhelming so even if you don’t tolerate « hot » food they will be great. The toppings were fresh and the boiled egg was tasty. All in all Boum-Boum Ramen house is a must try if you like ramen or even just noodles.

I got the spicy creamy vegan ramen with an egg on top and it was so good. Great beautiful view of Safeway while you eat.

Excellent food and service. Authentic Japanese staff and food; very affordable. $10-11 for a bowl of perfectly portioned ramen - there's a selection of sides to make your meal complete if you have a bigger appetite!

Since I tried ramen in Tokyo at ichiran ramen.me and my husband tried to start our ramen Journey in Calgary.this place it's the best so far

Had a tonkotsu ramen and their onigiri. It was a very nice bowl of ramen for a hard to come by price of $10 - the broth was flavorful and just rich enough, noodles had a nice texture, the egg was pretty decent, and the meat was okay - maybe a tad on the drier side. I was content and satisfied with the ramen - nothing flashy, just a hearty bowl.

The onigiri was alright - had decent amount of flavor, bits of chashu, ginger, however it wasn't as fresh as I'd like them to be.

Overall a nice experience, would come again for a yummy, affordable bowl of ramen.

Love the Boom Boom Ramen dish from here. Great quality and the take out containers are very convenient. The chicken karaage is very good as well, and you can't beat the prices here. I usually visit this place once or twice a week. I would greatly recommend!

I would have preffered a larger piece, or more, chashu. However, by no means was the ramen terrible.

Wow super underrated place I almost didn’t wanna leave the review and keep this place to myself but I want them to stay open! With the quality or the food and the service, there should be more people here. This is my new fav ramen place.

Very good! They forgot to give us utensils though and we didn't realize till we got to the park (plan to eat in the park). Can't beat the price though.

Ramen is affordable. Presentation is great as take out or dine-in. Soup base is not bad, just slightly oily.

Sides were great quality and affordable.

Great value ramen. Broth exceeded expectations and overall quality was great. Chicken karage was juicy and marinated just the right amount.
Only down sides: not a lot of options for toppings and portion of noodles was a tad light. Still great quality for great price.

Amazing food at a great price and the servers, cooks and hosts are also very friendly. It is way nicer inside than jt looks from the outside. Would recommend this place to anyone.

This place is amazing! Lovely rich broth and the best onigri I've had outside of Japan. Looking forward to the next trip here to try more of the menu

The boomboom ramen with the tomato broth is ok, and the Chicken Karaage is pretty good. Will come back and try others

My first time trying Boom-Boom Ramen House and it did not disappoint! This small local Calgary business has affordable prices, amazing quality of food and friendly staff. I enjoyed the boom boom tomato ramen and my sister enjoyed the vegan miso ramen. The portions are generous and the soup is very flavourful. I will definitely be back soon to try the rest of the food items in their menu!
