My midwife was not very personable and it felt like she was just doing the bare minimum to get by. And by surprise, I ended up having a preterm birth at 36 weeks with a low weight baby. I stuck it out throughout my pregnancy because I trusted the midwife as a professional but at the end, it was not worth it because I didn’t feel cared for even after a traumatic birth event.

I really loved the more personal and gentle approach of the midwifery care for my prenatal, birth and postpartum. I am so grateful for the care I received from Amanda and Kim for my third child. Thank you so much!

I really felt heard when I had questions or worries throughout the weeks, and when we discussed what I wanted or didn’t want for the birth.
I never felt rushed during the prenatal or postpartum appointments/visits.

When I went « overdue » and neared the 42-weeks mark, I really appreciated that the midwives respectfully discussed my options, and let me decide what to do on a day to day basis.

During the birth, I am so grateful for Kim’s experience as she observed me and suggested a position to help turn baby who has gone into a posterior presentation. It accelerated things so much! Thank you!

I am also very grateful for the continuity of care with the hospital team when I got a complication with the placenta delivery. The obgyn doctor entered the room and quickly got things under control. I loved that the midwives followed me into the OR while my husband and doula stayed with baby.

Applying for midwifery care was the best decision, and I am telling all my friends about it!

Most unprofessional experience ever. Our midwife Brittany did not even show up to our first appointment and completely forgot. Was very unapologetic about the incident and did not own up to her negligence. Clearly cannot he trusted with accountability or responsibility. For reference, our appointment was booked by Brittany and was 3pm in the afternoon, we had received both email and text reminders on our end. We ultimately ended up seeking care elsewhere. Front desk staff had to be prompted to contact absent midwife after 10 minutes of us sitting in the waiting room.

Lack of care was atrocious. I might as well have done everything on my own, because these midwives were absent, misinformed, and uncompassionate. Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else.

Great midwives! Super responsive on. But beware of the front desk lady! She’s got a lot of attitude that could come across as aggressive and rude.

I would be very cautious before choosing this as your go to midwifery of choice. They were great and absolutely wonderful until our 36 week visit at that point it seemed everything changed. Our midwife seemed to disvaule our wants for our birth plan. During the birth the care we received was horrid. I was pressured into a VE exam that I didn't want. I also will say that I didn't find this midwifery consent friendly. I was verbally abused during labour and to top it off the midwife simply didn't not listen to my husband or believe him when asked how contractions were going, she just disregarded him completely and we found that extremely disrespectful and harmful to our birth They are very much traditionalists and didn't appear to be interested in a psysiological birth. The postpartum care was truly a joke and we both left in the dust, honestly a phone call would have been more effective and less distressing. I regret staying with this midwifery and feel I would have had better care with an OB.

Now all this being said their knowledge with childcare is incredible and Jodi the receptionist is a doll. These are the only reasons that I am giving 3 stars.

Trying to leave a review specifically for Briar Hill Airdrie! But also had a great experience with our time in Calgary as well!

Everyone is friendly and helpful! From reception to midwives! We were caught in the COVID mix and initially had 3 midwives in Airdrie but due to new restrictions ended up losing 2 and stuck with 1. I say stuck but not in a bad way! We were so happily stuck with Jenny as our midwife! It was actually so nice to just see one midwife and always have her for all our check ups. Consistency and a built relationship! We has our initial hiccups with the initial transition but wow, Jenny is so kind and so patient and so so so incredibly knowledgeable and always aspiring to attain more knowledge and wisdom in midwifery. She is so passionate about what she does and such a pleasure to deal with! From initial appointments until 6 weeks postpartum she has been my constant cheerleader! She has encouraged and empowered me and taken care of me beyond my expectations!

I would also like to give a HUGE shout out to Britti as well! We met with her and she came to our birth! Such a kind and loving midwife! I would not have wanted it any other way but to have Jenny and Brittany by our side and in our home for the smooth birth of our baby girl. We were in such great hands with these two lovely ladies! Thank you thank you! I’d do it all again if I’m guaranteed these 2! Worth the birth pains ;)

I decided to get a midwife for my second pregnancy and it was the best decision ever. I got Kim Little, she was super amazing and accommodating towards me every step of the way, when I thought something was wrong or needed clarification Kim was always a phone call away, she made Me feel comfortable and was a breath of fresh air in the delivery room, she truly was my cheerleader! Kim also had Dani and Nichole by her side when it came to labour and they were amazing as well. After having baby things were wrong and Kim noticed right away. I truly loved every step of the way with Briar Hill midwives. Thankyou Kim, Dani, Nichole.

Tamara and Tietje are very knowledgeable, kind and responsive midwives. I would describe my pre-natal care as excellent (5 star).

My delivery was fair (3 star) due to a last minute change of hospital which I did not expect, pushing for home birth, and their student having lots of difficulty with dilation checks and errors in her findings eg baby tongue tie. Then sadly, my post-natal care went poorly (1star) with significant feeding issues that led babe to lose 14% birthweight. The student missed that my breast pump wasn’t the right size. This was ultimately rectified through my lactation doctor and family doc.

I was lucky enough to have Kim as my midwife for both of my pregnancies. For my first I saw her later into my pregnancy but she put me at ease instantly. I felt so comfortable with her right away and the trust was instant. She was incredibly informative, took time with me if I had questions and always made me feel listened too. I never felt rushed by her and that was so important to me as a first time mom.

Im so happy to have had her a second time. It makes me emotional thinking about it actually. And there’s so many other details I could share that really shaped my experience with her. I’m so grateful for her care and honesty. She was so encouraging to me during my second labour and that will always stand out for me looking back. She coached me, praised me and took excellent care of me. I had two very positive birth experiences and a part of that is because of the care she gave me and my sons. She is an amazing midwife and I loved my experience with her. Thank you so much Kim for everything!

I wanted to say that Amanda was also incredible. She attended the birth of my second and even though it was my first time meeting her I also felt very comfortable with her right away and she was also very encouraging to me.

We are so grateful to have been under the care of Briar Hill Midwives (Rachel, Nicole, Wendy, and Shawnee) when we had our baby girl. Everyone was so knowledgeable, efficient, patient with all my questions and concerns (first-time mom!), and very caring. I especially felt supported during labor and delivery and the team helped me have an ideal birth despite the challenges. A million thanks to Rachel, Nicole, Wendy, and Shawnee! ️

I was apprehensive about midwife care at first as this was our first child, but the experience I had with Natalie and Reanne far exceeded all possible expectations. Both women are extremely knowledgable, helpful and pleasant. They were able to put all my anxieties at ease both during and after my pregnancy. I couldn’t imagine receiving better support or personalized care anywhere else. I will definitely be going back to Briar Hill Midwives for my next pregnancy as well. I cannot recommend my midwife team enough. Thanks so much ladies!

Tamara and Tietje are amazing! This was our first baby and I couldn’t be happier about the care we received. I can’t wait to see them again someday! I can’t thank Briar Hill Midwives enough!

We had a wonderful experience with Briar Hill Midwives for our first baby. Our midwife Amanda E was knowledgeable and supportive before, during and after the birth. She helped us navigate becoming new parents in a caring and compassionate way which then helped to make it a very positive experience for us. If we decide to have another baby, she would definitely be out first choice. The admin staff and booking system at Briar Hill was also great making communication very easy.

I had an amazing midwife team here for my first pregnancy and 2nd! In my 2nd pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diebetes, which I never had with my first pregnancy. Because it was later in the pregnancy, my amazing midwife team, Tamara and Tietje, set me up with and OB but still agreed to see me through to the end of the pregnancy, as I wanted. They worked setting me up with an OB that had a very similar view of natural care that I desired. It allowed me to learn information while still being so cared for by both of them with regular appointments, which they were flexible with as well. With each ultrasound the technicians and the OB told me my baby was huge (from the diebetes) and I was quite scared that I would have trouble during the birth. I thought an OB would have to come in during the birth but my midwives calmed my ever fear. "You are just going to have this baby, " Tamara said, and it was the thing that got me through. The baby came naturally and without any trouble at all, and was actually not overly big. We had a wonderful natural second delivery with just the two of them in the hospital room with us the entire time. It was like having family there, with their encouragement and love. I watched a video of a midwife birth the other day and I cried from how beautiful it was, as it reminded me of my birth with the midwives. I don't think every woman feels this way about birthing. I felt empowered through it and like it was something so beautiful and treasured, because of the midwives who supported me so fully. I told my husband the other day, "because it went so well, I guess I am excited to have more babies! "

I had the worst experience here, and will never be able to use a midwife again. At 12 weeks, I started experiencing some spotting. Long story short, my midwife (Rachel and Nicole) told me to wait it out. I went to emergency only to find out I had miscarried three weeks before. I was referred to the early loss clinic and never heard from my midwife again: no follow up, no care, nothing. They were the least supportive people ever, and for my next pregnancy, I will find any other medical professional.

My Midwife Tamara was exceptional. Her vast knowledge, supportive demeanor and flexibility gave my husband and I the confidence and practical education we needed. We felt we had the tools and resources to manage the birth, and early stages of parenthood. She was informative helpful, easy to work with and kind. Now we call her Aunty T.

Tamara at Briar Hill has been our midwife now for two pregnancies and births, and both my husband and I were incredible happy with our care both in clinic and at home. Tamara is kind and warm, and always goes above and beyond to help whenever needed.even on false alarms:) Tamara and her partner Tietje are the perfect duo of midwives. My family could not have asked for a better team!

I cannot recommend Tamara Lacelle enough for your midwifery care. Tamara was my midwife for all three of my pregnancies including two miscarriages. The level of care and compassion she gives her clients is exceptional. I was able to connect with Tamara about every single question I had during my pregnancy. As a miscarriage survivor, the fact that Tamara provided me literally 24/7 care eased my anxiety. I had spotting twice during my pregnancy and Tamara saw me immediately to make sure everything was ok. During my labor, which was quite challenging, Tamara and Tietje, her partner midwife whom I also loved, were able to give me the birth I wanted. My daughter was sunny side up and the level of skill Tamara had allowed for her to be turned through various circuit techniques, none of which would have been provided to me in a hospital with an OB. Tamara knew I wanted a natural drug-free birth and because of her vast knowledge of her craft, she was able to give me that birth, whereas I would have 100% had a c section had I been in a hospital. In general, Midwifery care and its continuity of always having the same care provider is incomparable to that of an obstetrician, but Tamara's care is on another level. Once my daughter was born, Tamara visited me at home as many times as I needed and constantly built me up as I took on the challenges of having a baby who struggled to nurse. To say she is an expert in her craft and an all around wonderful Midwife, would be an understatement. I will without question be using Tamara again should I become pregnant again.

I have had and will have Briar Hill at all of my pregnancies and births. I had Wendy and Carol at my first birth, and Mary and Tamara at my second birth, both of which were inductions in hospital. Even though my births didn't go as planned (I wanted a home birth) they stayed with me through the whole process and helped me understand what was going on. I knew my babies and I were safe both times because these midwives were my rock.

My third pregnancy ended in early miscarriage, and Wendy and the entire Briar Hill team were so supportive. They made sure I was physically and emotionally okay, and that I had all the resources I needed if any followup was needed.

For my fourth pregnancy and third birth I was very fortunate to have Tamara and Tietje attend me. They were attuned to my needs throughout the entire pregnancy, even when I couldn't see them myself. They always allowed me to be in control after giving me all of the important information to again keep baby and I safe. They blew my expectations out of the water. This time I was lucky enough to give birth at home, and throughout the whole process they were aware of my and my baby's needs and so that we could stay safe and comfortable. I never doubted that they had our best interests and saftey at the top of their mind.

I will strongly recommend all of these incredible midwives to anyone who is having a child, and wants personalized, empowered care.

I am so proud to write that I had midwives! I have had two labour and deliveries and it was like day and night. The first time I didn’t have midwifery care and thus I was forced into an induction that led to an emergency c-section. The second time around I had the pleasure of being cared for by Tamara Lacelle and Tietje White. I had wished for a VBAC but I was honoured with much more. I experienced an amazing journey that started with my regular appointments and followed me at home and then to the hospital for a short 3 hour stay where I welcomed a sweet baby girl. It ended with excellent post partum care and I was sad to say good bye at my 6 week appointment. Thanks to my special midwives, I feel honoured to share my birth story and I want to empower other women by letting them know that labour and delivery can be amazing. I cannot wait to tell my daughter all about her ‘Aunties’ who helped welcome her into the world. Thank you so much ladies! You are amazing and the job you do is nothing short of miraculous. Much love from one proud Momma!

I have been under the care of the Briar Hill Midwives for two pregnancies now and each time have experienced an amazing level of care and support. The first pregnancy (my 3rd child) I had a hospital birth with Maura Burns and Tamara Lacelle. I always felt very open and safe with them, they listened to all of my concerns and worries closer to the end I had many and they were always patient and kind to me. During labor I had hoped to use a tub but the room was not available, instead Tamara massaged my back through contractions with the shower head and spoke so calmly to me. It was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend anyone wanting a natural childbirth to go with Tamara or Maura. My second pregnancy I knew I wanted midwives, I texted Tamara the day I got my positive test (before I even told my husband!) and I was placed in her care along with her new partner Tietje. This pregnancy was much more eventful, I had a few bumps along the road and was very nervous for the baby most of the time. My 12 week screen came back with high risks and Tietje and Tamara were there for me supporting me and talking me down about that, as well as ensuring I had the proper follow up appointments booked and everything was taken care of. At 23 weeks I was in a serious roll over car accident, my first call (after 911) was Tamara. In my 4th time mom brain I had forgotten to put the emergency line in my phone, Tamara was on her evening off but still answered the call and Tietje met me at the emergency room. The EMT and student doctor were blown away by the fact that my midwife would come at 9 pm on a Sunday night to make sure I was taken care of. Luckily baby did not come out then and we made it to full term and had a WONDERFUL home water birth. I can't say enough great things about Briar Hill Midwives and Maura, Tamara and Tietje. If I decide to have a 5th, I will absolutely be calling them again.

I cannot overstate how wonderful the level of care was with our two midwives, Tamara and Tietje. I always knew that I wanted a midwife if I had children, and the experience far exceeded my expectations. The level of knowledge, compassion and support we received throughout our pregnancy carried into the labour, delivery, and postpartum care for a standard that simply can't be matched. I never felt judged for the decisions we made at any point, even as the birth I had envisioned became out of reach for reasons beyond our control. Informed choice is an incredibly powerful thing. ‘Thank you’ isn’t enough… If we decide to grow our family again, Tamara and Tietje will be our first call.

My husband and I had the most positive pregnancy and labour experience through my midwives Tamara and Maura. After moving from the care of my family doctor to midwifery, the contrast in level of care was significant. Tamara explained every test and scan in detail, providing me and my husband empowerment to understand and make the best decisions for our family during both pregnancy and labour. During our home birth, Tamara's coaching, focus and confidence created a safe environment that led to an incredibly positive birth and postpartum experience. With regard to other reviews questioning her level of care or medical knowledge - I would greatly challenge this as we only received an incredibly high level of responsible and knowledgable care during pregnancy, labour and postpartum and Tamara holds the safety, care and comfort of her clients to the highest regard. I hope we are able to remain with Briarhill for future pregnancies!

I've had three babies under the care of Briar Hill midwives and I cannot say enough good things about them. My first two were with Savanna, with Wendy at the birth and the care I received was just incredible. My last baby I was under the care of Tamara who was just the most supportive person I could have asked for. My baby had a very serious birth defect and I was transferred to a high risk OB. Tamara was there for me every step of the way, even when she didn't have to be. She was at my birth, making sure that everything was as okay as it could be and took care of me afterwards and when my baby was in the NICU. I couldn't have got through it without her and I still really miss her. Briar Hill midwives have been absolutely life changing and I will always be grateful for them.

When we found out we were expecting our second child, we were hoping to find a midwife to guide us through this pregnancy. Briar Hill Midwives was very welcoming and we have been seeing Tamara and Tietje. They have both been so wonderful to us, providing excellent knowledge and cfare. Our home birth with Tamara was incredible! As soon as she walked in our home, she made everything so much better. Tamara is an expert at what she does. She was here every other day afterwards to check up on us also. We'd also like to thank Nicole for coming to assist at our birth! We love Briar Hill Midwives and would highly suggest to anyone expecting that they consider midwifery care and especially with them!

I loved my experience with Briar Hill Midwives. My midwife for my second child was actually my doula with my first and her help and support with that first 30 hr+ labour was invaluable in being able to deliver him naturally. I was so happy to hear she had become a midwife, and was able to take me on as a client for my second pregnancy. Even with a few 'birth fairy' loops thrown in, I was very happy to have a healthy little girl born at home with Tamara (in only 3 hours too - if we'd been planning for a hospital birth I don't think we would've made it there before she showed up). Thankyou so much Tamara Lacelle for your love for what you do. The mama's and baby's you care for are lucky to have you and you expertise and if I'm ever pregnant again, you'll be the first person I call.

I was so blessed to have Tamara and Tietje for my second birth. After a bad experience with my first pregnancy and labour; I was very hesitant to go with another midwife team. The team at Briar Hill took the time to help us process our first birth. Carol took time to call as soon as she saw I was on the list seeking a midwife. She reommended us to meet with Tamara. They knew a natural home birth is what I wanted.
I could not have asked for the perfect pairing. My whole experience with Tamara and Tietje was a dream. We always felt heard, cared and respected. My birth was amazing. I felt empowered and supported. I cried when I realized it was our last appointment with them. I thought about having another baby to go through the experience again with Tamara and Tietje. I recommend everyone to have these two. I always keep in touch with both of them. They are beautiful people that everyone needs to have at their birth. Thank you again to everyone that was involved. I am forever grateful!

Tamara was our birth doula for our first two pregnancies and was nothing short of amazing. The nurses present at our births were blown away by her knowledge and support. I am not sure we would have made it through labor and the postpartum period without her. For our third baby, we were so very blessed to have her as our midwife. Her strength, unwavering support and care throughout the pregnancy resulted in, after two more challenging births, a perfect, empowering and beautiful birth experience I never thought I was capable of. She made sure we were always informed and provided with choices and knowledge, and most importantly, she provided us with her friendship and love. Tamara is a kind, beautiful and compassionate person and the kind of woman everyone needs in their lives and helping them through their births. When our daughter became very ill during the postpartum period, Tamara was quick to provide advice and encourage decisions that saved her life. Tamara will always hold an incredibly special place in the making of our family, and I highly recommend her to everyone.
