I finally had the chance to come by to this wonderful restaurant for my best-friends birthday dinner and I can truly say that this is most likely one of the best experiences I've ever had in Calgary!
This beautiful restaurant had wonderful service with welcoming servers, exceptional food and unique experiences.
We started off with the trio of spreads which included 3 fresh spreads made from complete fresh ingredients. Each spread had the most delicious + unique taste we have ever had.
The Kefalotiri cheese was just as delicious along with our dinner which included lamb and a chicken souvlaki plate.
For dessert we had the Baklava Cheesecake and our wonderful server went above and beyond to include a sparkler for the birthday celebration - this was beyond delicious.
The drinks were perfect and each dish had fairly large portions. Every single item tried was incredible!
To end our night, we had the opportunity to break plates which made our night even more special.
We did not have a chance to meet the wonderful owner but we would sincerely like to thank the team at Broken Plate for such a phenomenal experience.
You all should be VERY proud of yourselves for gifting this city one of the best Greek experiences anyone could ask for. 12/10 highly recommend.
Our waiter Percy was absolutely amazing! Service was attentive and friendly! Food was soooo good. Will definitely make this one of our favorite lunch spots to return to!
I have been multiple times and the service and food is always consistently great. I love the cheese appetizer (they light it on fire at the table). For a main I love the rack of lamb and mashed potato’s or the lobster ravioli. Sometimes I get all 3! Always cooked perfectly! I will definitely be a repeat customer!
The food was pretty meh. Drinks were tasty. It's a little annoying that plates are constantly being smashed. Wouldn't say this is anything special, not exactly authentic Greek cuisine. More like dispassionately prepared Americanized Greek food. No vegetarian options.
Love this place! My boyfriend and I went for dinner the other night and had a great experience. Our server Percy gave incredible service, the food was delicious and the experience was cozy as always. 10/10 would recommend!
Amazing local Greek food. Service was great, very clean and food was fantastic. Was very enjoyable, great place for a date night and try some authentic Greek food.
Just had dinner here after a four year hiatus. The food was good, but not fantastic. My wife and I both had saganaki to start, which was amazing as always! My wife had the lobster ravioli fir her main which she really enjoyed. I had the lamb shank which I found a bit tough and flavorless. For dessert we shared a baklava and creme brulee. The baklava was very dry, and the brulee was one cold.
Definitely not the best meal I've had from this restaurant. I'm hoping it was just an off night and not their new standard.
An oldie but a goodie! There's a reason this restaurant has been open.and busy for years! The service is top notch and the food never disappoints. Highly recommend the calamari, fried cheese and trio of dips! The lobster ravioli was light and flavourful! This restaurant is a must try.
I have ordered at more "fast food" greek places before and now that I have discovered this restaurant - I will continue to order here. The food is fresh and the meat cooked to perfection. The meat at those other places actually have fillers if you look into it.
Great food for what I had but pricey for sure. Hummus Trio was $26 (other greek restaurants give more dips and cost about $15). Lamb Shank was one of the best I've had but very little food for a main ($36). Service was alright, not spectacular, and not all waitresses know the wine menu well. Did not offer to find another to help select wine nor were glasses of non- alcohol refilled or asked for more. Minor things for service related issues. Would eat here again.
I had the lobster ravioli. It was underwhelming. The white wine sauce was too thick and bland with very little wine flavor. The lobster filling was also under seasoned. Very expensive for a mediocre dish. I wouldn't recommend it.
I hade the Octopus starter and for some odd reason it made me feel like home. The taste reminded me of a better time as kid just simply enjoying life playing outside. It was very flavourful and comforting.
Food there is amazingly well done! As my main I had the Llamb with seasoned rice and veggies, it was the most comforting and satisfying food I've ever had. I've never felt such comfort in a long time. It felt like home! I love it there definitely highly recommend this place if you ever visit Calgary! It deserves 6 stars!
Fantastic food and service. My wife and I had lunch, we shared the Saganaki (spinach/feta samosa) Spanakopita (fried cheese with pita) and the ribs and fries stack with cheese cake for dessert. It was great, can wait to eat here again.
What an amazing place; love the ambience. Food was so delicious, from the calamari to the lamb shank it was fantastic. Our server Kate was so friendly and did a great job, the owner is also very nice! Will be back for sure!
Went here for the first time on Friday and was blown away! The service was spectacular, the presentation of the food was outstanding and the taste was like nothing I’ve experienced. The butternut squash ravioli was absolute perfection. Only reason for the 4 star is the price was a bit pricy for what you get but definitely worth checking out!
It was for a birthday party. The service was excellent, I think her name was Hunter and it seemed she just couldn't do enough for us! The food was pretty good.
For the cheese appetizer Flambéed table side, that was cool to see. The calamari salad was alright, salad was fresh but calamari was tough and chewy. The salmon platter was really good.
This was our second visit, the first time we got the moussaka and that was amazing.
The dessert is also great! I’ve now tried the cheesecake, the crème brûlée and my friend got the baklava which looked good as well!
I can't tell you how impressed I was with the service, A new waitress? Really she was awesome. Ok, the Food was excellent, ribs were delicious and yes I'll be back, keep shining, amazing prices too.
I've always love this restaurant, the food, the atmosphere, the selection of Greek wines! This place holds a special place in my heart & it never let's me down:)
Love this place! Went there last night with a party of 8 for a family get together. The service was excellent our waiter was Percy very knowledgeable about the wine, food and excellent service. Had a great experience and highly recommend this place.
Can’t believe we’ve never been here before. Amazing atmosphere, service and food. Best hummus we’ve ever tried. The Cod in risotto was delicious. The Greek style fries are to die for.
Not sure if under new ownership. Hadn't been in a while.
Ordered takeout skewer, Greek salad, lemon roast potato and hummus and fresh pita. It was disgusting!
Chicken was weird tasting and the box was full of at least 10 boiled hard as a rock, tasteless potatoes. Had asked for lettuce with the Greek salad and got wilted spring mix. The hummus was designer made with beets (too sweet) and the pita was cold and tough as nails. Won't be back!
Delicious lamb shanks, worth it. Everything tasted good, potatoes, vegies, even the fries were like nothing we have tasted at other restaurants. We finished it off with order of cheese cake, would definitely recommend it but not a fan of the crem brullea. They could be have me a blind menu and I would be paid the tab regardless. Thats how good it was, great food, calm ambiance. Family friendly as well.
I just had a lovely dinner for my birthday here as o really just looked forward to eating some nice lamb and ravioli. The server was so nice and I even got a birthday treat for free.
Went to Broken Plate today for the first time. Had Alexandra serving us - she was superb from start to finish and gave us a wonderful experience. She knew exactly what was in the food, gave great recommendations on our choices of food and wine. We were not disappointed. We shared the trio of dips then I had lamb chops and my husband had lamb souvlaki and finished with baklava cheesecake. Utterly divine. Met the manager too who was very nice and welcoming. We will be back very soon. Thanks for the best experience we have had in a long time!
Delicious food, knowledgeable and friendly staff, excellent service! We ordered the calamari, grilled octopus, fettucine, lamb legs, and a whole lot of other food - delicious! We had a great time at the restaurant. Thank you for treating us like VIP!
Nice joint in the south of Calgary. Good portion sizes for the pita and the calamari salad. Loved the cream of mushroom soup, which was the soup of the day. Ambiance and service was decent.
Definitely well prepared food. Just wish they offered their dishes with rice, potato and salad included, common in other Greek restaurants in BC and Eastern Canada. Still there is a reason the door hinges are wearing out at this place - client traffic never stops.
We enjoyed outstanding food, drinks and service for our dinner last night at the Broken Plate in Willow Park. Our table had both the red and white sangria jars and one lemongrass gin spritz and they were all wonderful. Next we had multiple appetizers to share with the table. Saganaki, spanakopita, the trio of dips and the calamari salad. They were all excellent and not a morsel was left behind. Next we enjoyed the lamb shank, moussaka, leg of lamb roast and one of the dinner specials with trout. Again all were delicious and the portions were so generous. 5* service. Dessert was all made in house and we had baklava, creme brule and loukoumades "greek donuts" accompanied by generous cappuccinos and a spanish coffee. We loved every mouthful and appreciated the excellent service. Can't wait to go back again! The Broken Plate makes every single dish so special you can't go wrong with anything you order from their menu! The Broken Plate is one of our family's favourite restaurant in Calgary. Try it, you will be glad you did.
Really fantastic food and friendly service (our server's name was Kat). Had a taste of the squash ravioli and I'm usually not particularly enthused by ravioli but it was so tasty I felt compelled to come on here and write this!
My family loves Greek food and we have our favorite spots. Broken plate is just average. Not bad but not the best. We started out with the calamari and the saganaki. The calamari is made up of thicker round calamari breaded. It is a bit chewy and the breading flavor was just ok. The saganaki was not as thick as other Greek restaurants but was good flavor. They supply pita but it is not home made pita like our other favorite Greek spots. They use the same pita as you can buy at Safeway. That was a definite disappointment. Fresh made pita is so much better. I had the lobster ravioli and it was excellent. Highly recommended. The prawns Santorini was also excellent but the spankakopita was just average. So overall it's not a bad Greek restaurant but there are several others that are much better.
Went here for a late lunch with my family, and lucked out on it being happy hour! I loved that they had food offerings as well as drinks.
Everything was delicious and the portions were a good size.
We tried the hummus and tzatziki as appetizers, and I had moussaka as my main. Everything was all amazing - especially the apps at their happy hour price, such a good deal!
We eat Greek everywhere but had never been to the plate before tonite. My wife and I have driven by a million times and always say. One day we will have to. My wife's Bday, so I thought, alright.it didn't disappoint. Food was great, service better, the waitress was so with it, the lamb to die for. We all sang Happy BDay with sparkler. It was perfect, I'm a hero.lol. Definitely go back!
We took a friend for a birthday and the place was very busy, but the staff was very kind to us and worked hard at making sure we were taken care of. The food was great. Tasty calimari and excellent tzatziki. They let my friend break a plate too. Fair warning, watch out when you're sitting near the plate breaking spot, it can be a little startling (sorry ladies who were just enjoying your lunch! OPA!)
I went here with my colleagues from work for lunch and we had a great time. The service was pretty good, the food was delicious and the cost was fair. Parking is not a problem during lunch, and I would doubt it would be a problem for dinner. The place itself is nice and clean.
Never disappointed, food is great prices are right, and quantities are adequate. Staff are pleasant, owner is a real gentleman. Recent reno resulted in a bright clean interior. Love the cushions.
The food was amazing, we went in for their valentine's day 3 course dinner menu. Paying $65 per person seemed a little steep, but overall the food and service both was fantastic.
INCREDIBLE FOOD. The food is seasoned perfectly. The octopus and lamb were a hit. Service was amazing. Highly recommend going before 6pm to avoid waiting for a table. Oh and don’t forget to try the baklava cheesecake.
I went on a super busy night (New Years Eve) and it was jam-packed! The host was fairly inattentive/distracted, but the servers were exceptional, albeit clearly understaffed for such a busy night. I needed to get up to get salt/pepper, forgotten cutlery, water refills, and extra lemon.
The kitchen was also likely deeply understaffed, as it took at least four times as long as I'd anticipate to get our meals. The food was excellent, and seemed reasonably priced. The portions seemed quite good as well - I got a to-go container but my date didn't.
With the plate-smashing though, don't go if you have a headache. The flambe happened multiple times throughout the night and added an unappealing scent and disrupting flashes, so those with sensory issues might want to try a corner table or a slow time.
. And grab some of the ouzo candies at the door as you leave - delicious!
We had a great time with friends the other night. The food was delicious and the wine recommended by the wonderful waitress was awesome. I look forward to it next visit.
This place is great. The food is always delicious and the service is always very good. They are also very accommodating to people with celiac disease. Highly recommended.
