Few businesses greet you with a happy smile when you walk through the doors these days- This one does- I have had a bit of trouble torquing chicago screws lately and although they didn't have the tool I was looking for they were happy to make suggestions for alternative methods of achieving success. Tandy Leather Edmonton could take a few lessons from these folks on how to treat customers.

Called about a product this morning, lady who answered the phone was very friendly and knowledgeable. Although they didn’t have the product in stock she let me know when it was coming in and when it would be stocked.

Lady at the counter was extremely rude. When we came in two people were paying up and were about to leave and she was cashing them out, as soon as a regular came in she told him to wait outside and then she told us one of us needs to leave immediately so he can come in? I dont understand. The two people she was cashing out were about to leave anyways. Why not just wait a minute for them to leave? We were not shopping together, we were shopping separately so this was rather surprising to us and we both just left. Extremely rude!

Good store Well laid out and good stock.
I was in the store on a Saturday when it opened at noon. There was only one person looking after the store and lots of customers I did not receive the customer service I expected as the sales clerk was busy with other customers. I am new to all the different types and styles of leather and wanted to learn more but went with what I all ready knew.

Best in the city of edmonton to buy leather from. Good prices high quality leather, variation and amazing service. Helped me start leather crafting by providing helpful information about each leather i was interested in.

My wife and I have been in Buckskin on numerous occasions. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. They encouraged my wife with her projects and they made excellent suggestions if she got stuck. They have display cabinet with other people's work and business cards if you're looking for custom work or gift. I highly recommend going here for all your leather needs.

This place is more than just some store. This place is a warehouse of every kind of supply you could need for Leather Crafting. The family who owns it has taken care to know every source, every cut, every possible use for every product they sell. My personal experience with them has been through Mail Order, from Ontario. No matter the distance between us, the entire team treats us like a part of the family. They will not be satisfied to just toss whatever isn't selling at us, no no, only what we genuinely need is even mentioned for purchase. In fact, this is their policy with everyone. They won't let you buy something unless you've had a chance to touch it, feel it, and even smell it, to make sure it is exactly what you need. If that means making small clips to sample of the hides in question, they will take those clippings and mail them to you for you to decide for yourself. And they will offer several options within the range you've asked for, just in case you decide one of their other samples suits your needs even better than what you thought you would buy. This is the kind of care that you only get from people more concerned with the quality of the product, and the satisfaction of the customer, than they are in trying to clear out stock for profit's sake.
Make no mistake, this is most certainly a business first, and there is a price tag attached to everything you buy. That said. The prices aren't as high as other suppliers, elsewhere in the country. Don't expect to be charged a premium for the care and service you get, because what you will get is an entire family of people who have made it their business to sell you the best quality, at the best price, for over 30 years now. They are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind to their customers, because that is who they really are. They have lived their lives for this business, and it fills them with joy and pride to serve the customers what they NEED to do what they love. They share the love of Leather Crafting as much as their customers, even if they don't get to partake in the act themselves. They have picked up on what their Customers do, and what tools, supplies, and techniques are required for it, and have used that to go and find the very best the industry has to offer for them. They are often the only ones in North America, let alone Canada, to offer certain items outside their manufacturer directly. They pride themselves in keeping as much stock as they can get for their customers, and if something just isn't right, they make every effort in the world to find out where the right thing is. It is rare that they don't have what you want or need, and often a matter of waiting for the next shipment to come in.
That, in a very brief description, is how they are as a Business. What I haven't said is far more deeply emotional to me. I have Native American blood in me, and I do Leather Crafting in techniques that have been passed down for generations. I am deeply aware of what it feels like to hold a hide, and know it has been treated with respect, and care. That it has been tanned, treated, and delivered with care. That it wasn't treated solely as a commodity, but rather like a valuable, and deeply respectable part of a living being at some point in its past. We aren't talking some kind of magic superstition here. Rather it is Inherent knowledge and sensation of the deep history of things like Hide and Wood. Every sense I have, holding even the smallest sample of the products from Buckskin Leather, fills my blood with joy, and pride, that there is someone out there who understands the value of a hide, in all its forms. Regardless of the texture, the animal, the thickness, or the use, Buckskin Leather, especially the owner and his family, are continuing the respectful, deeply honoured, traditions that are held by Native Americans. Whether this is intentional or not, they understand it, and it is with that respect that they approach every sale and customer. They are much loved in our family, and will treat you as their own.

Super friendly staff. Small store with good prices. Definitely not as broad a range as Tandy's for supplies but more unique items and stock that you wouldn't be able to find other places.
