We had high hopes but found the museum to be dark and decades out of date, treating Indigenous peoples and cultures as historical artifacts with little connection to the present.
There are some great artifacts for sure but so much more potential.
I really hope there is a rethink of what an amazing Indigenous museum and gallery can be. Preferably with Indigenous people working in it.
Interesting museum of local First Nations people, their stories and some artefacts. It could be better in time, perhaps with guides to aid the story telling and engagement. No facilities available on site.
The best museum in Canada I've experienced so far. I'm European and driving east from Vancouver. After a few rainy days and musea I quickly noticed a lot of stories began after the settlers came and took over. I even read about a waterfall and the "historic date a white man first 'discovered' it". It felt wrong and I couldn't wait to visit a museum telling the story of the original people of these beautiful lands. Wanting to know what it was like before the settlers came.
This museum, and especially the movie, really delivered that. I learned a crazy amount of things and was deeply touched. Thank you for your education. I would strongly recommend this museum to anyone curious about the native people and older/full history of these lands.
Not so busy museum, nice to visit and see from outside to inside, looking like a fortified place this museum have many artifacts showcasing the history of a local indigenous Canadians.
