Butterfield Acres was an amazing date idea bunny holding although I had a demon bunny, he was very sweet at heart. I could tell. There was also tractor rides and hot cocoa and tones of animals you can pet

Went here for my birthday. Had a great time at the start! Lots to see and do. Left with a bitter taste in my mouth worried about how the animals are kept. The enclosure that the geese were in seemed dirty and the water in their pond was a dark green- they also did not seem to have fresh grass but were enjoying some crab apples though. One of the geese was losing feathers- I hope she was ok. I’ve heard very few complaints about how they treat the animals here, but seeing that was quite concerning. Especially at a petting farm the care and quality of life for the animals should be taken incredibly seriously.

Will edit this review and give a higher rating if I receive any information to indicate that the geese are well cared for from the farm. Otherwise will not be returning: (

Do not support this farm. They take their rabbits to events and don't give them any shelter or water in the sweltering heat. They don't monitor their rabbits on the farm, they feed them a poor diet of sugar rich fruit and vegetables and they don't take any care to make sure people know how to interact with them. Have seen children chase rabbits, try to pick them up, and scare them. Rabbits can be scared to death really easily. Disgraceful place

Butterfield Acres provided such a great set up with adorable little animals in our backyard. Huge 5 year old birthday success! Thank you.
29 July 2023 14:33
I've never been here before.so it was my first time. As an adult, it was honestly extremely fun and wholesome. Very pleased with all the hand washing stations outside the fenced off areas so we could keep clean before petting the cute animals.

I do recommend the birthday barn if your kids are having a party-it was nice and cool in the midst of an insanely hot day.

We loved it! Our 16 month old got to pet so many baby animals. All of the animals are well adapted to humans and so sweet. Definitely recommend
08 July 2023 12:30
Good place a bit run down and pricey could use some play structures for the kids but good place still
01 July 2023 18:35
There are literally signs everywhere saying don't pick up the animals. Not fun when you're sitting there petting a baby goat and a bunch of entitled 10 year olds come, pick up all the babies and walk away. Worker there said it was fine, why do you have signs up saying DON'T then? My experience definitely sucked watching a bunch of unsupervised kids poke their fingers in the animals eyes and laugh about it. The animals are super cute and I feel bad for them honestly.

My and 8-year-old granddaughters love this place. The staff really seem to enjoy working there. We usually get a season pass but this year they are both going to attend Summer camp, as did the older one last Summer.
Today the 4-year-old went to Butterfield Acres with her play centre friends as a field trip. They all loved it!
08 June 2023 10:06
Fun for little kiddos. Lots of animals to see. My girls loved petting the little bunnies and sheeps. Farm is spread out so you never feel like you're constantly bumping into someone. Lots of different spots to have a picnic/lunch. Also, my girls loved the train ride. Will come back again!

Rented a mini petting zoo for a birthday party. The staffer was so organized and friendly (and great with the kids). The animals were cuddly and the piglet was by far the biggest draw for parents! Loved this. Thanks for making the day so special!

Allways a great place, From the staff to the cutest farm animals! I had a really great time. The animals are so cute and well taken care of. I love to visit in spring when all the babies arrive. I met the cutest baby sheep, he/she followed me all around talked alot.baaaaaaa, it was really sweet.

Prices are very fair.

10/10 experience for toddlers. Animals are well groomed and are not far away hiding like in a zoo.
Special thanks to the staff on the telephone and at admission for their help with my questions.

Great place to visit. I went with just my girlfriend and we had a lovely time petting all the newly born goats and sheep. Very nice place and a great quick afternoon activity.

Only gave it 4/5 due to the price. $38 for 2 people was quite a lot in my opinion.

We were here on a very hot and sunny weekday, and there were no crowds which was nice. The animal enclosures are all accessible and hand washing stations are provided. The sheep were entertaining (so loud!) and the playground was good fun after a day of animal entertainment.
The farm has little shade in the main area at the front, so be sure to bring a large sunhat and sunscreen. Gravel also requires shoes rather than sandals. Refreshments are sold at the ticket area upon entry, but the signage is small and not very conspicuous. We went on the tractor ride and it was fun as the entire property can be viewed through the wooded areas. The wagon has a large step up, and there are no seats, so be prepared to sit cross legged. There are no signs throughout the farm regarding tractor rides and scheduled times - we walked back to the ticket area at the front to inquire. More riders would be available should these times be more prominently displayed.

Animals seemed very healthy and calm and they were very accommodating for me and my service animal and support worker, we were allowed in all regular animal areas and I felt so happy that my dog was allowed anywhere i was (generally put him in a down stay just outside the fence to the animals so we wouldn't stress them out)
21 October 2022 9:09
Good morning, this is our second time to the farm, my advice is that you spend so money on the attractions, all the toys in the childrens play area are from the 60's and broken. I dont believe a signal thing has been up dated since we were there last year. You already have the "draw", animals and outside, and obviously been doing it long enough, time for an update so your repeat customers choose to return more than twice.

Another place on the list I'm shocked to see get only a 4.3. This petting farm is absolutely incredible! What a well-designed, fully functional, interactive place to see on a weekend. Compared to another petty zoo I've visited recently, this one tops the chart for sure. Here's why:
- More interactive and larger goat/sheep accessible spaces (where you can just chill with the animals)
- Better price wise
- Has a dedicated (shaded!) natural space for visitors to eat and take a break from the sun - we fully appreciated this!
- Overall just a much more chill and relaxed environment which carries over to you naturally
- There are lots of informative pieces of information outside each animal's enclosure - some great fun facts as well.

Lots of animals to interact with i.e. Goats (varieties included), sheep, alpacas, emus, donkeys, and even rabbits! The staff are super friendly and just have a clean, calm vibe to them. I took my wife here for her birthday and she didn't want to leave. So very glad we chose to visit and we'll surely be back for another very soon. Great job, Butterfield Acres!
24 September 2022 15:18
We went to Butterfield Acres for my daughter’s 40th birthday party. We had so much fun. It’s truly a place for all ages. The picnic areas have great shade and conveniently located on the farm. Great fun.
20 September 2022 12:25
Great bday outing for my family and I! Not terribly stroller friendly unless you have some good "off-roading" wheels. Wear closed shoes! I made the mistake of wearing flip flops and had to keep kicking stones out They have a change table located in their washroom for babies. Great outing for kids to interact with the animals!
16 September 2022 23:25
We had the best experience today with the Butterfield Acres Unicorn who travelled to visit us at our chosen location. Our daughter was over the moon to have a one to one riding and petting session with her very own unicorn for her fourth birthday. Unicorn arrived on time, was super well dressed and behaved and the staff member was an absolute delight! She was excellent with my daughter and even brought her a gift. I cannot recommend this enough as a birthday surprise. Thank you Butterfield Acrea!
19 August 2022 18:26
It was a very bad experience. The price is completely different from the official website, overcharging, I went home to look at the credit card records, I found that two adults plus a two-year-old child, charged me $69. Moreover, it was very small, and when we went there, many areas were used to summer camps, and tourists were not allowed to go those areas. When we went there, there was no notice or clear sign. My child was only two years old. He accidentally entered the lawn area of the summer camp and was directly pushed by an older child to let him go away. The teacher next to him did not come forward to stop it. NEVER COME HERE AGIN!
05 July 2022 22:57
Our family went to the Butterfield and cobs at the same day, I have a 25 month baby girl, the butterfield charged my little one $14.99 ($16.99 for adult) I understand my daughter is over 2years but 14.99 is just too much for a 2 year old! At cobs, the cashier lady asked us how old is our baby I told her 25 month, she ended up giving my little one free ticket! (their price is under 2years Free, above 2 pay half price), cobs is way more friendly! I prefer stay with cobs!
02 July 2022 15:52
Interesting dens with different kinds of animals, I like the wash your hands stations everywhere and the instructions of washing your hands before and after visiting each den.
Beautiful baby piglets, bunnies, chicks, calfs, goats, donkeys, sheep, ostriches, geese, alpaca and even horses and ponies.
We only suffered from pushing the stroller through the gravel all over the area. I wish it was not rough for us to walk with babies and toddlers in these trails.
We enjoyed our visit there, don’t miss the tractor and pony rides.
We missed the milking sessions as there were no information about the timings of the mentioned activities in the map.
They sell fresh farm eggs too.
I was told that we could finish the whole place in two hours but it took us four hours and half there. If you like hugging and petting animals you might take longer time as they are so cute.
25 June 2022 22:15
Went for my granddaughters 2nd birthday and we all had a great time!
My only ask would be to make the tractor ride more friendly for older or disabled people.a bench to sit on would be great.
The baby animals are so adorable! Thanks, we will return.maybe spot that darned hippo!
04 June 2022 1:52
Animals were lovely, staff were friendly, facility was clean. Having fire pits was a great way to warm up. We also really appreciated the flavorful hot chocolate. Pony and tractor rides were great but extremely short. We did not realize we had designed times for pony or tractor rides as our reservation did not show up at the front desk. However, they were very supportive and got us what we needed for a great visit.
06 May 2022 16:47
Had an amazing time and totally worth the money. Went with two other adults.
I will suggest if you plan on getting close to the animals make sure you don’t wear nice clothes and have proper closed shoes. All the animals look well taken care of and healthy. Staff was friendly and always walking around cleaning up or taking care of the animals. We will be back in the summer. Thanks for the wonderful experience!
24 April 2022 22:21
Would give 0 STAR if I could.
Today was our 3rd time went there with whole family. After purchasing another day pass for today, we realized seasonal pass would work better for us as we go there quite often. Brought the day pass back to the reception, asked them to exchange it to seasonal pass with us paying additional for the difference. The woman we asked said it should be fine but she went to ask the manager Tanya to do it as she is the only one who knows the process apparently.
Then she came back saying unfortunately they can't do that because it was Easter day?
But we've paid exactly the same amount for the day pass as any other days?
What was the point of them asking us if we want day or seasonal pass when first time we entered today?
It's not that we paid less for day pass because it's Easter day?
Just doesn't make any sense. Our family will never come back and tell our friends the same thing.

These folks are fantastic. We love the animals of course! The staff here is also really good. They know how to take care of people and create memories for kids and people with special needs. We love coming here and we will continue to do so! Thank you!
21 December 2021 16:28
Great day out for the little ones! Friendly staff, lovely petting area.
Totally recommend it for the under 10s
09 December 2021 15:39
This is a decent half day to full day family visit. Parking is bad but there is at least a parking area. Facilities are very much working farm as described, with a spruced up family fun exterior. Make sure to bring your mud boots and dirty work outfits if you plan on going in the animal pens! Overall it's a good time.
06 December 2021 22:32
My 3 children loved this place. There was so much to do. We just wish the pony rides were longer. Otherwise, this place is magical. It also seems like they take good care of their animals.
19 November 2021 5:05
It was only okay. The animals were friendly, but the pens were very dirty, littered with feces.

If I had older children, I think I'd be more inclined to go back sooner, as some signs recommended certain pens (poultry) not be entered by children under 5, and we didn't notice this until after we went in. Staff didn't warn us either.

I left feeling felt discouraged and frustrated.

The signage was fun and informative, the decorations were festive, and the tractor ride was definitely the highlight for my almost two-year-old. They also had pony rides, which my littles were too young for.

All in all, a fun family outing, but I wouldn't recommend for very young children.
14 November 2021 8:07
We visited today with 2yo and the entire family had fun. It is clean, animals doesn't look stressed and staff is super friendly & helpful. The only minus was lack of different food than muffins and cookies.
24 October 2021 14:55
I went to Butterfield acres back when I was a child for their summer camp. Great memories! Yet my partner brought me here for my birthday and it was a great present. Between the memories and the new one's I made with him. I can not wait till I can come and visit once again!
24 October 2021 13:42
We got there and they were sold out.how can they be sold out? They are outside.very disappointing
22 October 2021 10:43
Great place to take the whole family, super fun to interact with the animals inside the pens too! Will be visiting every year!
15 October 2021 18:45
I haven't been to Butterfield Acres in about 20 years! This is a wonderful place: the animals are well cared for in every way. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are handwashing stations at each pen. Sadly the hot beverage shack wasn't open (likely a directive due to pandemic regulations). Still a highly enjoyable outing.
07 October 2021 1:31
Good petting farm to take kids, they will enjoy, , , , and other animal. Pony ride is also good for small kids.
03 October 2021 10:11
Such a fun place for kids. You can pet so many animals, we were so excited that you could go in all of the enclosures as well as pet the horses that were standing by their gate. We spent a couple of hours here and really got a good laugh from the hilarious sheep.
03 October 2021 4:03
I visited this petting farm with my 3 grandsons aged 4 to 12. We were totally underwhelmed. It's expensive for what it is. It's a chaotic jumble of poorly maintained enclosures - mostly goats and sheep. The pig pen with piglets is very small and with so many people it must be stressful for them.
. There were a lot of kids obviously there for the day looking kind of lost and fed up as they tried to sweep the pens. Everything is overgrown and tatty - I can't recommend this for an outing despite the rave reviews.
02 October 2021 10:52
Fun place for kids. Reasonable price for entrance. You can find pony and tractor ride there for about 2 or 3 dollar extra fee.

I’ve been going to Butterfield Acres since I was a kid in Girl Guides and when I felt nostalgic for it later I went back and rediscovered how absolutely unimaginably perfect it is. I have spent several birthdays there with pals just cuddling baby goats. Since then I’ve been showing so many friends who have either not been since they were children or have never been at all and every single time I get to witness them experience TRUE and UNADULTERATED joy. Many of these friends have gone on to have trips to Butterfield for their birthdays too!
I just had a particularly wonderful and special experience renting a unicorn for my birthday gathering and I literally don’t care how old you are, it is impossible not to have a Serotonin overdose when you’re petting a little unicorn covered in flowers. So I can HIGHLY recommend doing this if you love ponies or unicorns or both. Just do it for the photos ALONE!
Thank you to Emma who was Rainbows (yes the unicorns name is Rainbow) handler. She was so welcoming, kind, knowledgeable and could not have spoken more highly of working at Butterfield. She was so so cool and made the experience even more wonderful!
Thank you Butterfield Acres and everyone who makes your little farm happen, may you stick around forever so I can keep having birthdays here until I’m an old hag.

Amazing petting zoo! The goats are adorable and so much fun. It was such a great experience for my 1.5 year old.
I cannot recommend it enough to have your child experience the animals.
20 September 2021 7:19
Wonderful place to visit or to send your kids to a Summer Camp. Never a dull day, always something new to learn, do, or discover.
08 September 2021 4:49
Always a great place to bring kids. The staff are great and there's lots of animals to see. The goats are the best.they like to steal stuff. Always entertaining.
07 September 2021 1:51
Much wider range of animals than I was expecting. Lots of areas for kids to get up close and pet calm and gentle animals.
02 September 2021 13:26
WORST CAMP EVER! If I could give it zero stars I would. This is possibly the ONLY day camp that doesn't have a refund policy that aligns with the current COVID pandemic. Due to our children having to isolate after being a close contact we were unable to attend camp. NO refund, NO credit and absolutely ZERO compassion or willingness to compromise. As a result I made a forced $680 donation to Butterfield Acres. So disappointed and I worry that some may send their children to day camp rather than keeping them home due to their policy. I will NEVER book a day camp or visit this facility again.
20 August 2021 9:01
A terrific place for children to have a farm experience. The one thing I would like to see is fresh water brought in or piped in for the pond. Low level and not very clean for the waterfowl to swim in.
20 August 2021 4:10
Terrible service. Run down. Sold us tickets for the pony ride. Later find out there was no pony service for the rest of the day. We were told to get off a slide because that was for the day camp. We spent all of 30 min there
14 August 2021 15:29
3 yr old loved it. Stayed about 2 hours and he was asking to go home. Is meant for age 6 and under in my opinion. Animals are pretty tame esp sheep and goats. Lots of hand wash stns. Staff really helpful, friendly and interested in answering questions about place or the animals. Pricey for adults to walk around if there are more than 1 or 2. We wanted 5 adults and a child but that was not financially possible. Area is a bit confusing as to where to find what as it doesnt really circle around one oval or circle. They do give u a map. Often got stuck behind a fenced area and had to return to a different path, Esp near the duck area. Never did find the milk house. Diff seasons would give diff experiences. Will go back while child is a toddler. Returned spring 2021. Animals active and making lots of their sounds which we all loved. Some were extra noisy so startled us a few times. Lots of baby animals which was fun. One family or pod per pen so had to wait however, bookings were less so waits were not to long. Prob 2 pods a head of us at the most. We went counterclockwise and that seemed better. Could stay 2 hrs and you book on line 3 days in advance.it seemed to work well. Time slots are for every hour. Farm was not smelly and not muddy considering snowy cool weather in May. We got a sunny day but cool. It was perfect. Some animal pens are bigger this year making it more enjoyable. Staff are friendly and animals friendly so can pat them. Goats and lambs loved to chew shoelaces, pant strings etc. Baby piglets were so tiny and my fav. Lots of hand stns and enough soap towels and water. Bathrooms were clean.
Take your toddler.
14 August 2021 3:54
I live in the area and drive by multiple times a week. What a beautiful place to see and experience God's animals.
12 August 2021 21:17
Incredible spot for the family within the city. Truly a gem of Calgary when you need to get back to grass roots.
They have an (over) abundance of hand washing stations after every corral, and the animals are always happy to get attention.
Hands down, this is an essential service right now. Thanks to all the staff (and animals) for what they do. Look forward to coming again soon. I love this place even more with kids. What a gem!
01 August 2021 23:51
Lots of animals and petting opportunity. Need more sheltered tables if not in day camps. Very hot to rest at Picknick tables in the sun.
01 August 2021 11:51
A wonderful opportunity to get your fix of baby farm animals. Very clean and well organized operation. Fun for the whole family!
09 July 2021 4:44
The kids were amazed. It is a petting zoo on a farm that is very well organized. Lots of fun activities for kids to interact with farm animals. They follow COVID protocols. We converted our one-entry tickets to season passes at the end of our trip. Definitely worth visiting!
04 July 2021 14:53
Even with the COVID restrictions it’s still a nice time there. Would recommend it for families with little ones.
03 July 2021 8:23
Our 2 year old had the best time of her life. Comfortable for current social distancing requirements.
