When you sell a house, you’ll wish it was just just a ten speed on Kijiji, because you’re immediately immersed in a bewildering ecosystem realtors, bankers, lawyers, various aspects of municipal government and, of course prospective buyers - who are angling to get the best deal out of you, utilizing their own ecosystem of realtors, bankers and lawyers. Suffice it to say, if you’re not a professional in any of these areas, selling a house can be a flatly overwhelming experience. And even if you are an expert in these areas and are not now hyperventilating at the thought of selling, let’s not forget the sheer labor and logistics involved in selling an old house, finding a new one, and moving. Just try concentrating on your day job and keeping your family on the rails.

With all of the above in mind, a good realtor is gold. They help guide, nudge, and facilitate things at each step. They have a map, know the terrain, and check the weather every day. That makes a gigantic difference when you’re in the trenches of it, head down, trudging step by step.

We just moved my elderly mother out of her house and into ours. It was difficult, personal and sometimes emotional work: letting go of things, rearranging environments, folding lives together. Ken Macaulay was there for us all along the way. His expertise, sight and guidance captained our experience and allowed us to focus on what mattered without having to also chart out and bushwhack our own path through the miscellany. We were grateful for that. He let us know the choices we needed to make, the range of realistic options we were working with, and the timelines we were operating within. He had a back pocket filled with recommended resources: lawyers, cleaners, movers, stagers, etc. And he really was willing to go the extra step, pitching in at various times when we needed help. And, of course, he showed the place, which sold in…one…day.

All of this is set against a larger backdrop, too. Ken sold my wife her first home fifteen years ago. As a new homeowner, his help was invaluable. Years later, he trundled my mother to a few dozen places as she was, herself, considering the idea of moving. Nothing panned out then, but he was patient and kind and exhaustive in his efforts. So, when it finally came time to move we chose Ken, and we are glad for it.

We worked with Phil Lepage. In our first meeting his pitch to us was that 98% of deals are a result of being listed on MLS. If that is the case why are we paying the listing agent such high commissions? We listed at a price that was higher than what he wanted and thankfully we did. Once we listed we hardly heard from him. When it came to buying a home we received help from an associate but he was still involved. He was unavailable at critical times and his communication was rude and unprofessional.

Stuart was a real help when we had a lot to work through. He was always helpful and patient; never forcing us to accept or work with anything outside of our comfort zone. We had an exceptional experience with him as he would go out of his way to help us. From shoveling to moving furniture, Stuart was always there for us and made the difficult task of managing and trying to sell multiple properties much less stressful. He is a great person and real estate agent that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
