Steve has done an interesting job purchasing all of these 5 star reviews 2 months ago to bury his business reputations (funny that most gave two first names and basically say the same thing). He’s been impossible to contact, so there is no way that he’s completed these jobs and suddenly has happy customers. Keep digging or look on Houzz to see what this company really is.

If you are looking for a contractor that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and reliable, this is NOT the contractor for you. I hired Steve and his contracting company Aspire or Calgary Home Renovations to build a home for me in Calgary. He came across as a very nice person and I met the trades people he was going to use before hiring his company to act as a contractor for the project. It was only a couple months into a year-long build when I realized he was using his own people to frame the home instead of the framing company that I initially met when I hired him. I started to visit the project daily to ensure work was being completed properly and noticed several corners being cut and work that was incorrect. When confronting Steve with the issues he would ignore the matters and state that he had been building custom homes for some time and he knew what he was doing. Once I lost trust in his ability, I had several third-party professionals come look at the work to ensure it was being completed properly and in several instances it was not. I was fortunate that his plumbing sub-contractor and electrical sub-contractor were very professional and did quality work. I Also insisted to hire my own interior finisher in the contract which turned out to be a great help during the second half of the build. The finisher pointed out several walls that were warped, blatantly unlevel and crooked which forced Steve and his two-man crew to rip out entire walls and be redone properly. On top of all the physical deficiencies that occurred throughout the build that had to be micro managed it was very clear that all the accounting and change orders were completely incorrect and I was being over charged for a majority of the expenses. To give you even more perspective on how poor this contractor is, I have had owners from other homes knock on my door to discuss all the grievances they have had with this company.

I could write a novel of all the examples of negligence when dealing with Steve and I do have over a hundred pages of notes and documentation with those examples, but for the sake of this review I will keep it simple. If you do make the decision to hire this company or deal with Steve, make sure you pay him in stages only after work is completed and make sure to withhold money until after his one-year warranty has lapsed. The warranty that he promotes isn't worth the paper it's written on. In my case I did not hold back money until the first year lapsed and I still have several items that he did not complete. Once you pay him in full, he will just have you deal with all the sub trades and many of the items you need completed will be ignored. Make sure to inspect the work regularly with third party professionals, Steve will try to cut corners to ensure he is getting paid first without any regard for your best interest. You’re probably asking why would I hire this person and his company when I have to micro manage and do a lot of the work myself? The answer is that your better off just hiring your own sub trades and saving the money that would be wasted on Steve.

I worked for Steve as a contractor on asbestos abatement. Steve and his crew are super easy to work with, right on time and flexible. Very easy to get along and collaborate with. Although my crew and myself are usually first on site, I was able to see Steve's project when its completely done and its fantastic!
