Went to a one day sale. Incredibly badly organized. Line to pay was wound through entire store. Wait was way more than an hour. Spoke to the manager. Unfriendly. Unhelpful.
They had a puzzle marked at 10c, and instead of honoring the price, the clerk disappeared for a few minutes and then told me it was $5.
Pretty sketchy, considering they get all their items for free.
Edit to respond to owner: It was a goodwill sticker, marked with 0.10 Wares. It scanned at the till when she scanned it. Most stores will honor an item that has been mislabeled. I understand that you don’t follow the scanning code of practice, but it would have been an act of Goodwill (hah) to just sell it and clear it out of your store.
Deborah, Kasia, and Christina are absolute saints! They went way WAY above and beyond when I lost my phone in store and had a panic. They were so kind and efficient, they worked as a team, everyone was concerned and helpful. I cannot say enough.
I have so much respect and gratitude for all the staff at this store. I've never seen a more organized, tidy, well-kept and cared for store than this one, or a more personable and effective staff, anywhere. Not just Goodwill, I mean any store. It's astounding. Everyone from the front of the store to very back clearly cares about their work, their customers and their store at the highest level.
Wendy at the south land location is the sweetest lady EVER, she is incredibly helpful and patient with me while I look at things in the lock cabinet I enjoy chatting with her while I shop, I always look forward to seeing her! Barbie who is usually on the floor of the store is also so sweet and always gives me kindest genuine, feedback on the stuff I am looking at in the mirror. Unrelated but Barbie also looks beautiful every-time I come in.
Overall all the staff here at this location have been very kind and helpful. Definitely the best thrift store with the best staff, whoever hired at this location is doing a great job and should be hiring for other thrift shops in my opinion. The staff works incredibly hard at keeping the store clean and organized and it shows, the greeter always lets you know the discounted tags and is always kind. Overall great team for this location, 5 stars all around for these ladies such hard workers, kind people!
This may possibly be my favourite thrift store in all of Calgary! The inventory is incredibly well organized, including being colour coordinated - WOW! Not to mention, the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly! Great Job, Goodwill Calgary Plaza! All Calgary thrifts should use this store as an example to strive for! Also, they have change rooms! Highly recommend for your next thrifting adventure! (:
I’d give zero stars based off my experience with Cindy the “manager” I had yesterday (June 7th). How she has a managers position there is beyond me… I hope this goes to head office as I’ve been trying to get ahold of them to report her ignorant entitled behaviour. Someone needs to address how she speaks & treats customers. I was so angry with what she had said to me about my child yesterday I didn’t even finish shopping, I just paid for what I had & left & instead of her apologizing for her ignorant assumptions, she went into the back room & hid like a coward.
Two women who work there made fun of my physical appearance, they spoke in Ukrainian to each other as if whispering, I understood them clearly because my father is Ukrainian and I learned from him, in short, Canada is supposed to be a country where there is no discrimination, I did not want to do It's a scandal because I wouldn't like them to lose their job, but if someone reads this I don't recommend going there, they're going to treat you badly.
I was in your store today I can’t believe the prices of the clothes when they’re secondhand. A long coat priced at $180 are you kidding me this is supposed to be secondhand clothing maybe you need to look at repricing your clothes so people can afford it remember their second hand.
This store is well organized and well run, but we couldn't help but notice the prices are far too high. Please remember that these items are donated, and that a store like yours is meant to be charitable towards lower income members of the community first and foremost. We appreciate the need to pay employees and bills, but we were honestly astonished at how high your prices are.
Whoever is in charge of the pricing for the video games and other items is quite legitimately insane. Almost everything is marked higher than retail price at an actual video game store. Many of the games I have seen sitting on the shelves for literal months now, and they are trying to charge retail for empty cases in the glass cases as well. Whatever happened to thrift store prices. Absolutely insane.
An incredible store with lots of cool finds! Even if you don't plan on needing a cart definitely just grab one, I can almost guarantee that in a lap around the isles you'll find something perfect for you that you won't be able to leave behind. Or you could be like me and awkwardly balance it all while you walk around the store and decide if your arms will be able to handle carrying everything and juggle that cute pink teapot.
Better yet, they put on sales for things like tags based on colour, for example when I went in today it was a blue tag sale which all blue tagged items were half price!
The staff are all incredibly kind and helpful, and I can't wait to go back! (But next time, I'll use a cart haha)
Well set up and organized. Staff are helpful and friendly. A great place to go for used stuff that might meet your needs. Need a colourful shirt for a holiday or a book or even some old fashioned glassware? Pop in for a visit.
Horribly overpriced. Don't blame inflation, all the inventory is donated. Staff was also talking badly about houseless people. Not a safe environment for people.
This item price is 4 dollars from dollarama however in goodwill second-hand store you can see how much money they are asking for. Not only this most of the stuff price is too too high. Moreover, I notice that during the blue or red or any tag week they will take out most of the stuff and put some other colours.hardly find an item with 50% discount with whatever color tab discount.
** Update for response from owner: This occurred April 25th at approximately 4 PM **
The store is nice and new, so have to give it props for that. But I had the worst experience when going to the fitting rooms. I stood at the fitting room, waited for someone to acknowledge me for awhile but realized that was maybe not going to happen. So I asked one person walking by if I could please get a room. She just kept walking so I figured she must not have heard me. I asked another person and the same thing happened. The first person came by again so I asked her once more and she let me in.think there should be an employee or two specifically for the fitting rooms just to make the experience smoother for customers and maybe easier on employees as well. The worst part though was when I was in the room trying stuff on. The doors had no lock but a number tag was put on the outside so I figured it was probably fine. I had my pants off to put on the next pair and an employee opened the door with zero warning. I was mortified. I hurriedly said there’s someone in here! If it was a clothing store that was just women I wouldn’t have been quite as panicked (though I really wouldn’t like any strangers to see me in that state) but there were men in the store. I’m pretty shy and have a lot of anxiety so I just felt really weird about it and a little discouraged from trying on clothes any longer. My boyfriend said when he came to stand nearby the fitting room area it seemed that employee unlocked other rooms too without announcing herself or knocking (there luckily was nobody in those rooms). It seems this employee either lacks common sense and or hasn’t been trained properly on fitting room etiquette. It’s a pretty big deal in my opinion for someone to not knock or ask if anyone is in a fitting room before opening the door. There’s a lot of sick people out there and nobody needs to be exposed when it’s pretty avoidable. I left the store and cried because I felt gross.
It’s like they have someone looking eBay prices to determine how much they should sell for. There was no name on the back of this jersey. You’re a thrift store not eBay your prices are ridiculous.
Really really big store nice and clean everything is showcased nicely throughout. Staff is friendly and nice. Prices are really good here. Fair for the condition of the things that they sell so I give them two thumbs up. If you're headed to a Goodwill this is the location for you to check out
Have been a loyal costomer for 2 years, have donated many items to this store. However that all stops today after a more then horrible experiance. Went into the store with my mother to see what there was. Never had a issue without the masks in the past 2 years, but today a girl who worked there named brooke told my mom to put on a mask or get the F out of the store, then the manager came up saying b How its store policy and they need to see exemption plus a photo id.which is highly unexeptable. We left the store and went to value village where non of the staff said a word to us and let us be. Never donating or setting foot in any goodwill store EVER again! The Macleod store has no respect whatsoever.
This is a neat little location. It's on the pricier side of thrift stores. I go often to check things out the staff are lovely, and the location is always quite tidy. However I don't think I have ever been there and not seen a reseller.
The pricing on Jewellery and housewares has inflated since this store has evolved to "Boutique Style Goodwill". Its unfortunate because items that were a few dollars in the old store are now in the twenty to thirty dollar range at this location.
I would have liked this place better if there was a washroom I could have used. I'm from out of town and had to go across the parking lot to a gas station to use the washroom before I could return and finish shopping for all my Christmas supplies.
Overpriced, and piled high with no buyers. The customers are talking, our donations are being abused with high prices and will end up going to a place that will sell our items at reasonable prices as we expect.
Also the other items look so fancy and overpriced. Not the same old Goodwill as it used to be. It's too bad cause Goodwill used to have a pretty good name but it's getting worse just as the economy is bad and we need a place that isn't catering to the rich.
Why are there no self help books anymore? You used to have a great selection and now it's less.
Selling expired climbing harness, I brought them to a worker and pointed out how dangerous it is to sell and they put them back out to sell. Very unimpressed.
Over priced. No longer a “thrift” store but solely in it for profit. Goodwill use to be where I would shop while in school if I wanted to spoiled myself with a $5 waffle iron. No longer the case. A used air fryer is $45, furniture is minimum $50 and up. May as well shop else where.
This is seriously one of my favourite all time thrift stores! The store is always clean and well maintained and they have a variety of household goods, clothing, furniture, and every single thing you will ever need.
Great prices, but most "set-items" are not together. They might sell the remote separately from the tv. Or the speakers separately from the rest of the stereo.but overall, a fair deal.
Will not bother shopping here any more. I do a ton of thrifting and there are much better thrift stores in Calgary to spend your time and money at. The prices here are exorbitant and the supervisors in almost every interaction I observe are unfriendly and cold. The fact that they charge crazy amounts for "designer" pieces also turns me off - they are charging more than consignment boutiques I shop at. They're supposed to be a thrift store and financially accessible for people. I brought a dress to the counter that didn't have a Goodwill tag on it that would have cost *maybe* $20 at a consignment boutique, but the supervisor took one look at it and said it would cost $40 because it had the original brand's tag on it (it was an older item from an affordable fast fashion brand, not worth $40 at a thrift store). Definitely didn't take that item home.
The store is saturated with Xmas items two weeks before Halloween and virtually no Halloween décor available. Won't be back to this location as some of their regular cashiers are very rude and should not working in retail.
I always have fun at this place. Always a treasure to be found, and a great place to get good quality second hand clothing for very cheap. Excellent for work clothes!
I would never suggest going here unless you’re ready for the workers to be rude to you and not do their job. I went in the other day to go buy some work clothes, and a bunch of ladies were standing around not doing anything while I needed to put my bag behind the counter (yeah if you don’t put your bag behind the counter security will yell at you) then when I wanted to go try some clothes on nobody was around and I had to chase someone down. Then at the end I got my bag back and paid for my clothes and the security guard STILL ASKED TO CHECK MY BAG and when I said there’s no need I never had it with me the whole time she threatened to call the police. Very unprofessional everyone there.
This is a large store. A great selection of clothing, shoes and household goods. My main concern is the pricing. For donated items, their pricing is high. Gone are the days of the true "thrift store" price wise. I actually choose 4 items last visit, and decided not to take them in the end because of the overall cost of only 4 items.
Fair selection of men's stuff. Not too much in terms of furniture, but that's par for the course when shopping thrift stores. Hell, got a tent for $10 that sleeps 3!
Used to love looking for treasures here but like value village the items can get pricey for used free stuff donated, so I think I'll just get my summer time yard sales in for the hunt
It's a nice place. They have some really high enough end clothing and shoes, but you have to dig. In comparison to value village, I felt it was a more pleasant experience, but the organization was threw me off a bit. I found a really nice jacket there, at least.
This Goodwill is an awesome place to find treasures for insanely low prices. The only issue I have found is that their selection is limited, even for a thrift store. I have almost never been disappointed by coming in, so its definitely worth checking out.
