Love skiing here at Castle Mountain, one of my new favorite places. Close by home and it usually always has great snow. ️ Friendly people and so much fun to ski at. Challenging for sure in a great way.
10 May 2023 21:31
I love the skiing here and the friendly vibe. The lifts don't move fast here, but the terrain more than makes up for it.
09 May 2023 7:17
The lifts are old and rickety and terrify the hell out of you. Which only adds to how awesome this place is.
02 May 2023 14:00
Either I have good ski karma or this is a great hill. On the drive home I am always thinking it was the best day ever.
They put a real effort into making it a good experience.
I am a small resort skier so this hill is perfect for me. The longer drive from YYC is worth it.
I would say stay away because I don't like others ruining my piece of paradise when I find it. But these guys deserve to make a living so give it a try.

Great hill. Not the biggest, or the best, but also not as pricey or crowded. Great value for the hidden gem.
08 January 2023 18:46
What great place to ski, all ages, all levels of skiing/snowboarding, good Pub food! Friendly helpful staff
14 December 2022 7:16
Love the skiing here and the friendly vibe. The lifts don't move fast here, but thr terrain more than makes up for it.
16 September 2022 8:03
Didn't go during ski season, but can only imagine what that would be like. Coming down an impressive mountain range, only to see another impressive one on the way down. Wipeout city! All from natural beauty.
25 June 2022 2:17
I'm not a good snowboarder in any way, but still had fun trying to learn. Got really tired though
29 May 2022 17:29
If I am being completely honest, any other ski resort would be a better fit for a ski trip then castle. The staff have been very unfriendly every visit, as they do not seem to understand how to communicate with people properly. While all their services and amenities in the lodge are insanely over priced for the low quality.
28 May 2022 15:38
Had a volunteer on the hill threaten to assault us because we entered a trail that was apparently "closed". There were no signs or ropes closing off the area so we accidentally entered it. Upon realizing our mistake, we tried apologizing and asked where they would like us to go and were told to "get the f out" or get "f'd up". While leaving the hill, another volunteer started screaming and swearing at us.
28 May 2022 5:07
Hadn't been in 33 years.incredible changes and superb skiing. Very reasonable ski tickets and do not need a covid passport.
30 April 2022 20:07
The green runs up huckleberry lift were a bit much for my 6 year old after having 3 prior outings on smaller hills. Fortunately they had a bunny hill that had enough variety for him.
24 April 2022 3:18
Really enjoyed taking the kids here. They terrain park to a beginner area and even have a chair lift for beginners as well. Even a carpet ride for a bunny hill if your very new or have small kiddos just learning. Can't wait to go back next season. Affordable, friendly. Food is great. Nothing is over priced. Very fair for sure. Super easy to find your way to the hill, and also easy to get around on the runs.
22 April 2022 10:28
We had an awesome day today at castle. While the hill was mostly ice, the lift attendants were in great spirits and helpful. The ski instructors did a wonderful job with the kids and were very patient and considerate. The only downfall of the day was the overpriced food and miserable cafeteria staff - they might need some time off and a hug.
11 April 2022 8:26
Visited castle mountain today. Prices are extremely steep for the amenities provided. But the worst was the extreme nature and enforcement of their covid rules. We went to the lunch bag area on the bottom floor area to quickly use the bathroom and put our ski clothes on. However when we entered the lady at the desk aggressively told us to put face masks on. I informed her we did not have face masks so she provided them for us. As I went to put one on I asked her why they are still so strict about the rules, the government is ending the face masks rule in a few days. She aggressively told us that Castle may not decide to do so and will be keeping their own Covid rules. The lunch bag area was still closed due to Covid. After being mistreated so poorly we decided to leave after a 3 hour car ride and not purchase tickets from them. Very sad to see as this was at one time my favourite ski hill and was super laid back and fun environment.
25 March 2022 7:31
Excellent local hill, all the steep and deep off the red chair (Tamarack), lovely blue and green runs off the Huckleberry chair for families. Small, independent hill with a wide variety of terrain. Hill also offers Cat skiing, has a small pub and some on hill accommodations.
23 March 2022 5:23
A place to live. A place to work. A place to play. A place to find rest and healing.
Love our “south house”

Ski school staff are stellar!
16 March 2022 21:57
When Castle is on its on. I worked there for 2 seasons back in 2008 and had the most epic days of my life. They have one of the longest, uninterrupted fall lines in North America and the mountain is steep!

On our most recent trip we booked the cat ski experience. The cat is world class and the most comfortable one I've been on. The guides, and cat driver are so rad. They gave us the best balance of fun and safery.

Sadly, the conditions didn't cooperate but the mgmt were so accomidatiting that they offered us full refunds after our first run, this is unheard of in the industry.

We're going to save this cash for the next time Castle gets hit with the good stuff.

Great snow. Awesome staff. Only problem: almost noone in the lifts seemed to follow recommend health and safety protocols. Didn't feel entirely safe. Otherwise great time skiing with lots of varied terrain.

@Kevin Aftanas: It would seem that no-one follows the facemask recommendation. I would "recommend" making masks mandatory in lift lines like most other big ski hills in Alberta. If not, at least staff should lead by example by properly wearing masks.
06 March 2022 18:12
Terrible service, creaky old chairs and very rude people working at the ticket sales. Definitely will be supporting our friendly neighbors down south from now on!
15 January 2022 19:37
Its great place to ski and snowboard, very good ski instructors, the prices are very reasonable and would recommend castle mountain
24 September 2021 22:23
Castle Mountain is a hidden gem. I've been a skier since I was 8 years old and have skied many resorts in BC and Alberta. The best snow that I've ever skied was at Castle, with over 100cm of fresh, champagne pow. I thought snorkels while skiing were a joke until I had my epic Castle experience, with light and dry snow flowing over my shoulders, and having to stop only to catch my breath.
21 September 2021 8:34
Beautiful location. However, the camp sites around the parking lot were not very big and they did not mow the grass or weed wack.
12 July 2021 10:51
This is for the woman at the resort that told me about the creek nearby on that 35C day. She's works there and I'm truly grateful for running into her. Beautiful area in the summer. Trailers nestled in the woods. Worth the visit
04 May 2021 5:25
If you like steep runs, while also having something for everyone else who likes to take their time, this hill is fun, and would recommend it. Double blacks were challenging but doable, parking is close to the entrance, and enough runs to enjoy an entire day there with varying terrain.
27 April 2021 1:51
Castle mountain is great. It has a full maps on trails showing all its paths marked by colour showing its level of difficulty. It has plenty of snow to go on through the seasons since if ever short they produce their own. On Huckleberry lift they create areas of jumps and rails. Its my favorite hill of Alberta. It also has a dine in lounge with internet access and a sit in bar.
24 April 2021 0:31
Love this hill, staff are pretty good.
Chairs are not as fast as some of the bigger hills but this hill is so worth it
20 April 2021 7:32
Quite a steep mountain! Definitely a place to challenge one's self if you're an intermediate like me. Went on a Friday and wait times were minimal for lifts. It gets very windy at the summit and visibility can become almost zero, but I wouldn't say it's like that all day. Had a great full day on the mountain. I will be returning in the future.
07 April 2021 23:19
Honestly Love Castle it has a family run feel great snow great terrain and it often feels like a secret playground
21 March 2021 19:32
Had an amazing day despite the wind and icy conditions. Stephanie was a great instructor and would highly recommend lessons from her. Staff super friendly and helpful! Cant wait to go back
14 March 2021 10:24
Every other ski hill I’ve been too is very accommodating to keeping their guest warm and allowing them to bring stuff from home to do so. But not castle. Basically if you can’t afford to eat at castle you’re not allowed to stay warm as they will not let you warm up inside or heat your food up inside. I understand you’ve got to be cautious of corona but at this point it’s just a money grab not about keeping their customers warm and happy.
14 March 2021 7:44
This place was stunning. I love the place and I love the view from the mountains specially wen you on top of the hill. It's worth every trip. Always pleased coming here
07 March 2021 17:59
This is a nice mountain if you like steep speedy runs. It's good for snowboarders and skiers alike and has some fun trees if you can find the right spots.
01 March 2021 21:29
Just a great down home ski hill. Nothing flashy just good, nice people here who like to ski. Super friendly staff and enough amenities to keep you fed and warm but not to take the focus away from the skiing. Snow is usually pretty good! And it’s a easy drive from Calgary.
17 February 2021 11:11
Great mountain! Challenging but in a good way. No reception at the resort level of the mountain so be sure to bring walkie talkies.
05 May 2020 22:50
The best mountain you've never been to. Just don't tell too many people:)

They have no cell reception and I hope they never get it. The T-bar is probably the best on hill pub I've been to. And the on hill accommodations are excellent.
30 April 2020 18:58
Lots of terrain, great staff in the lodge and at the the T-Bar, but also on the lifts. On a powder weekday you'll have no trouble finding fresh tracks, but stay on the main designated runs as there are some rocks lurking off to the edges. This is all full-line skiing and boarding, so easy on the legs.
26 April 2020 11:09
This mountain is really hit or miss. Can have lots of great snow on black diamond runs or be windswept and crusty. We got a mix of both last time we were there. Add to that some rain and you have some interesting skiing conditions. The lifts to the top are old and prone to break down but that's almost part of the charm.
22 April 2020 6:23
Great hill to come play on. The staff and visitors all seem to be happy and friendly. The kids loved the snowboard school. They learned and hit the chairlift in the first hour.
Great prices on lift passes and rentals also.
19 April 2020 11:28
A small-scale ski resort south of Alberta scale.
It's an old facility.
The distance between the parking lot and the slope is close.
There are six lifts, only about five.
Since it snows a lot, powder riding is possible.
There are not many people, so it is possible to ski leisurely.
The lift is very slow.
It feels like a ski resort for local residents.
The level of slope is mostly superior. The slope is enormous.
But it's a really fun place.
It takes about two and a half hours, but it's worth it.
13 April 2020 14:24
I came here in a school trip and we were welcomed with warm smiles and the training instructors were very polite
07 April 2020 0:07
It's a decent resort. There's no cell service. We used walkie talkies. There is wifi. They have a separate ticket fee if you only want to use the huckleberry chair, it's about half price.
They have some microwaves and a few lunch tables in the lower floor of the lodge. Fantastic.
My only complaint that there is no map at the top of either chairlift and signage is genally lacking. Not a problem for experts who can handle any terrain. I found myself escaping from siwash to high noon and oh my god, the most terrifying minute of my life.
Some single black diamonds on this hill would definitely classify as double-blacks on other resorts. Same goes for some green and blue zones. I would say, they don't particularly expect beginners there, had some fast near misses from speedsters behind me because i did a few unexpected turns.
Still, beautiful scenery and backcountry, old school feel. Lots of tree runs. Though it was raining Saturday I still had a great weekend. I would come back for sure, especially on a powder day.
05 April 2020 3:49
This is a fun ski area. The snowfall is usually awesome & the skiing options are nicely varied to suit anybody from newbie kids up to pro adults. I took my 11 year old son for his first "off-groomed-area" experience. Castle has lots of that to offer. So much fun. The only downer is the geographical location of this place.southern Alberta gets insane winds ALOT. When we were there the winds exceeded 150 kmph! Yes, you read that right! Cant blame the resort for that tho.
03 April 2020 12:13
What a day. It poured rain all day. Wore garbage bags supplied by the resort to stay dry. And the main chairlift was closed due to wind. And yet, from the moment we drove up the goofy parking attendants set the tone for a good day. Staff in the rental shop are helpful and friendly. The scenery is beautiful. My kids enjoyed themselves despite the weather. They’d love to come back sometime.in better weather.
01 April 2020 17:36
Awesome to be enjoying a great ski mountain with safety and fun.staff is very good, smiles and chats with you.
29 March 2020 12:11
First off, the drive in to Castle from Pincher Creek is the most gorgeous entrance on the Alberta side of the Canadian Rockies that I've driven. Now, get that out of the way, and get to Castle.

From the parking lot, you're surrounded by mountains on all sides, which meant no cell reception. 5 stars for that, because we should be spending more time enjoying our surroundings, and less looking at Facebook. Staff were wonderful from the ticket window, to the repair shop, to the lifts; some of the lift operators give you hugs before you go up, which just makes Castle a feel good place.

The Huckleberry chair is not too long, and takes you to a smaller set of runs, perfect for warming up, or for those who aren't comfortable on steep sections of the main mountain. However, don't be fooled, they're plenty long for the casual skier/snowboarder, and plenty of fun.

Main Mountain was wonderful, lots of options for several experience levels, and lots of good powder found even on the sides of the groomed runs, which made the day very enjoyable.

The repair shop staff were probably the best of the day, and that says a lot! They had my wife's skis tuned and waxed in about 30 minutes, and she was much more comfortable on the mountain afterward.

The food at the pub was excellent among all 4 of our plates. Service was a little on the slow side, but the pub was full, and there were only two servers working. Food quality and friendly staff made up for it.

All in all, Castle is on my short list for a return trip, we had a wonderful, wonderful time.
29 March 2020 8:36
If you can get out after a snowfall you can ski powder all day as it's not as busy as Louise or sunshine. The Glades are amazing and a really great bowl as well! One of my favorite hills!
22 March 2020 15:27
Castle Mountain is such a small intimate local type of ski hill. On of the main chair scanning ladies gives everyone a hug on their way up. Great community at this resort with some pretty good terrain too. Basically everything off the top of the red chair is steep. Fun mountain.
20 March 2020 13:28
I skied here 25 years ago when it was called Westcastle! I skied here on January 1st, 2020! It was an epic day! All kinds of terrain for all levels of skiing ability. The staff was all unbelievably friendly & the service & food at the T - Bar Pub was spectacular! I will be going there again!
20 March 2020 5:48
We came out to catski, but want to come back and experience the place for everything else it has! Lodge is clean and taken care of. We had a fun day out catskiing.
13 March 2020 8:28
I didn't ski but hung out in the lodge but according to my kids the snow was great! I found that charging $4 for a coffee is a bit steep. Find its all very pricey so was glad we brought our own food!
09 March 2020 1:09
Absolutely great up until the red chair stopped working half way thru the day.conditions great. Huge mountain but desperately need one new express chair. Mountain is spectacular though. So much terrain.no whistler but terrain competes with Revelstoke for challenge and half the size of Fernie but just as good perhaps. Express lifts would move it to 5 star especially for price paid.
02 March 2020 16:40
Would love to give 5 stars but have to admit not having some of the newer flashier things cost it (high speed chairs etc.). That being said they aren't charging the same as the main stream hills and the lines are shorter.

Runs are great, every person we met was fantastic and the beers afterwards were tasty.

A good hill to go on for a day. The inside areas are as clean as you would expect. The rentals are very well maintained and a nice fitting area. Food is pretty good although pricey (like every ski resort). The hills were well maintained and marked. Everything was a good experience. I gave it 4 because they the front admission didn't give me my proper lift ticket with a corporate pass, just left me with my receipt stub. This confused the lift ticket attendant (as myself) as why they didn't give me a lift ticket and just the receipt stub. It did scan, but was very inconvenient to have this stub in my pocket and take it out everytime to use the lift. Other than that a fine experience.
26 February 2020 5:26
Snow was great this past weekend. Good coverage with not many icy spots. Line ups almost non-existent on blue chair and huckleberry chair. Fun times for the family!
23 February 2020 11:49
My absolutley favourite place to ski. Great runs, no lines and a hill with personality - just a fun place to spend time.
01 May 2019 22:14
This resort is an absolute gem. Terrain is fantastic and the snow is always top notch. Also, noteworthy are the friendly staff and affordable prices. I recommended Castle Mountain Resort wholeheartedly!
23 April 2019 23:23
Great skiing, good place for families, many different options for all skill levels. Bunny hill is a small chair lift with runs that have varying degrees of difficulty. Nice place to learn and practice for beginners.
31 March 2019 4:45
Love Castle! It's a little like going back in time 20 or 30 years with the old school lifts but that means the hill doesn't get skied out as quickly. Haven't had a bad day there yet!
15 March 2019 11:39
Positive, encouraging staff. Would be helpful to have a railing on the right side of the Huckleberry chair to prevent chair issue delays.

An excellent resort to enjoy as a family.
