CattleBaron Steakhouse SE - Sundance

This is usually our favourite steak house but last night something was wrong. It took an hour and a half for us to see our food and when we finally did, our steaks were overdone. Nothing was done to our bill- we ordered two appetizers as well. Not what we’ve come to expect, disappointed to say the least.

The food was incredible from the steak to the vegetables on our plate we loved every bite!

Went for Christmas Eve and it was a great experience, I did expect this type of food and service and it didn't disappoint. The steak was cooked as I requested and my companions plates were also well cooked and presented.

We had 10 people in our group sitting in the lounge and the waitress we had was amazing, No complaints here

But what made our visit truly magical was our server, Alethea. Her warmth and professionalism are unmatched. Alethea has a remarkable ability to anticipate your needs, making you feel both cherished and at ease. She navigated us through the menu with expert recommendations that were spot on. Her infectious enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the menu elevated our dining experience from great to extraordinary.

The ambiance of Cattle Barron is sophisticated yet comfortable, striking the perfect balance for a memorable evening. Whether it’s a special occasion or a casual night out, this place has a way of making it special.

We were pretty excited to try this place as I hadn’t been in 20 years and people seem to enjoy it.
It was a let down.
I’ll start by saying our server was great. He was very on the ball.
The problem is the food is just bad.

We showed up to celebrate something, and promptly were told that we had 2 hours. Half the steaks were over. Way over. They took half off one of the meals. Overall. Ghetto. Won’t waste my money there again.

Jamie was hands down the best server I have had at this location. She was very attentive, kind and always made sure everything was good. She was also very patient. 10/10 would definitely return to see her!

Excellent service and food! Came here on a Monday evening so it was quiet.but very cozy atmosphere and the food was fantastic! Definitely with every penny!

Dear Chef,

We were invited to dinner at your fine establishment on Sunday. We have eaten there several times in the past, considered it to be an above average restaurant and have always enjoyed the fare. Everything started out good, we were seated quickly even though they lost our reservation which had been made the evening prior. We were greeted quickly by our server who did a great job btw. We ordered, our appetizers came out quickly and were well prepared and tasty. Then came the main course. We ordered a variety of main courses, steak, pasta and ribs. The proteins were all cooked to perfection, which is what we have come to expect and appreciate about this establishment, however, what was a huge disappointment were the twice baked potatoes. I mean it's hard to imagine that a restaurant of this caliber could plate something so completely tasteless with the texture of a kitchen sponge. Firstly, they were made of instant potatoes but that wasn't the worst thing about them. I mean I can understand the cost-cutting advantage of using boxed potatoes, but even the smallest attempt to make them marginally edible would have been appreciated. I don't even think they bothered to add salt let alone anything that could actually enhance the flavour like some chives, some onion powder or some garlic powder. It did look like some cheddar cheese had been mixed in but that did nothing to allay the flavour of boxed potatoes. But it wasn't just the flavour, or rather the lack of it that made this side such a disappointment, it was the texture.they were dry, even adding extra butter did nothing to improve either the flavour or the texture. Did I mention how disappointing this side was for such a high caliber restaurant? Potatoes taste good, you need to do very little to enhance the flavour. You failed.you just failed. This item should just be taken off your menu entirely, stick to offering baked potatoes, fries or rice. This item is so inferior to rest of the menu, it shouldn't even be offered. I've had infinitely better tasting twice baked potatoes off a food truck. We will continue to go to this restaurant in the future, but have learned not to order this item, it just ruined a $60 main.

The 5 times I've been here it's been awesome. Good food. Wife really enjoys the oysters.

Had the pleasure of being served by Mikayla tonight. Although it was a full restaurant, she was extremely attentive and still took the time to make us laugh. On top of the great service, the food was amazing.the steaks were cooked perfectly! Will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

My partner and I were extremely underwhelmed by the quality of food that we received for the price. I ordered “Prime Rib Au Jus” which was a very chewy prime rib covered in gravy. I was disappointed that it did not actually come with a Jus as the name suggests.

My partner ordered a NY strip and a side of prawns. Based on the size of the plate that came from the kitchen, we assumed this was the side. It was not, the six small prawns were the $17 appetizer dish. (We were charged $19 for this and did not notice the up charge until after we left)

Additionally, both of our plates came with undercooked carrots that may as well have been raw. To the point you could barely pierce them with a fork.

We decided not to complain in the moment as we didn’t think it was really worth causing a fuss, but we were very disappointed overall.

Come here all the time! Food is great and consistent… We always have Amanda as our server and she is awesome, always makes sure we are well taken care of. Our go to spot and will continue to be!

I've been here twice in my life so far once for my bday dinner & once on a date with my boyfriend. Great food. Great service. No complaints.

Have lived in the south of Calgary for 20 years and never eaten at the Cattle Baron. The food was excellent and loved the decor! Was with a table of 8 and ever person raved about how good their meal was. Only down side was the service, although she was polite we felt like we were being rushed out. Considering the table likely brought it close to $800 you would expect a little more warmth and personality. I’d go to Earls or Moxies if I wanted that kind of service. Again, the food made the night!

Nice place.

But a special meal for kids is missing and if you ask for a kids meal the amount is too big for the kid. Should be more custom to the age of the kid. A 2 year old cannot finish a meal which is actually a medium adult size.

We went here for my grandmother's 90th birthday and the entire experience was absolutely fabulous. From the servers attentiveness to the quality of food. I was very impressed, as was the rest of the family.
Also worth noting, our server was made aware that my father suffers from post traumatic stress and has a traumatic brain injury and she was incredibly compassionate and mindful of his triggers, making his overall experience very pleasant and safe. She was amazing.

While previous meals here have been very good, last night’s dinner was disappointing to say the least. Ordered Steak Oscar with twice baked potatoe. The potato was not warm enough to melt butter and very dry. The vegetables were so hard they had to be cut with the steak knife. Definitely not tasty or anything special. The 5 “shrimp” lived up to their name in size only, they not much bigger than a quarter and the same thickness. Asparagus was thick and woody. The steak itself was mediocre, tasted gritty. Our server was very good. Not a meal worth $50. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Great place for a steak or prime rib. Reasonably price, warm and welcoming staff. Nice comfortable atmosphere. Recommended
