Charltons Banff

Stayed one night but was pleasantly surprised at the size and cleanliness of the room. Appreciated that we received a room at the back away from Banff Ave.

I would say it can be a good experience but could be better. It is a beautiful hotel, and it is located on the main street in Banff with easy access to everything you need. The stuffs in the room was limited and you had to pay for the parking while staying there. The room was clean and they were always there for you while you wanted help. In total, a good experience.

We recently started at the Charltons and for a young couple in their 30s I have to say overall it was an enjoyable experience. The King loft room was spacious and comfortable and brought all the amenities you would expect. The location was about 15 minutes walk to the Downtown core, which might not be for everyone but was fine for us. However there are closer options of course. Wifi worked great and overall quiet.

Two little pet peeves were that parking was not free, although very affordable, unlike listed on their profile.
The temperature of the room kept fluctuating between far too cold with the AC unit max speed blowing cold air straight onto your body with no way to change the angle. Then it became too hot too fast if you turn it off in the loft.
The hot tub was closed.

Where the big disappointment occurred was in the morning. The lobby is closed 11pm to 7am, and although they do have a buffet (not included) breakfast it also starts at 7am. We were up and waiting downstairs before 7 as we had our long drive home, and there was not a soul seen in that lobby until 7: 08am. When we were let in we were told that breakfast would be a little bit longer. We were told to enjoy some coffee while we waited, which turned out to be yesterday's leftover cold coffee and finally left the lobby around 7: 15 to find McDonald's because they still had not prepared breakfast. There were other morning travelers in the lobby as well at that time who were sharing in the disappointment.

So for anyone who stays in the future, just be aware of the fact you might not have time to wait for breakfast at the hotel if you have early morning travel plans.

This place is overpriced for average rooms, you have to pay for parking and they have a $16.00 per person breakfast which has very little selection and food that is barely edible. Overall overpriced and not worth it.

Awesome experience! Great staff, room and location! Convenient and free parking close to room, we were able to walk to all our destinations!

This place had good bones but was pretty tired. Solid layout with a full kitchenette, but for $400 a night I would expect the lights and outlets to work, and the room to be cleaner. Also parking and breakfast are extra.

Comfortable stay for a weekend but wouldn’t stay here again if other options are available.

The receptionist exhibited an excessively discourteous and ill-tempered demeanor, characterized by a sour attitude. Despite my friendly greeting and warm smile, I was taken aback by his behavior. He aggressively was talking in a loud and forceful manner, too many rude and unprofessional comments were made, and at one point, I mentioned that I had inadvertently left my identification in the car and needed to retrieve it. Shockingly, he forcefully struck the countertop and unleashed a threat that he is not going to let me in!

In a composed manner, I politely requested that he moderate his tone. However, this simple request only served to escalate the situation further. He continued to shout at me in a crude and belligerent manner, exclaiming that he had no intention of adjusting his behavior. He even declared his willingness to shout even louder if I desired it.

This distressing episode persisted for approximately ten minutes, during which he continuously berated me in an uncivilized manner. Unfortunately, the time was midnight, and I had three exhausted children asleep in the car after a grueling six-hour road trip. To avoid exacerbating the situation and finding ourselves stranded on the street, we had no choice but to attempt to defuse the tension. I never fathomed being thrust into such a predicament, especially in a place where one expects to find solace and relaxation, for which payment has been made.

Really incredible location with great service and great rooms. The only downside is it's a little far down the strip from downtown and the reason I give it 4 stars is that there's no microwaves in the room or communally available. Kind of a weird thing for such a nice hotel, but other than that it's really amazing and parking is really super easy.

We wanted to stay a extra night in banff the hotel said it changes our rate from $150 a night to $270, when asked how this is possible they said it changes daily. Ok well keep your rooms empty then as most of this hotel is Vacant even at busy times. I guess gouging people is more important then the stay
Other then that its way to much money for what you get even at the $150 range as the rooms look like they were done in the 70s, walls are paper thin, dumping buckets of chlorine in the pool instead of cleaning it (gave my child skin irritations that shes never had from any other pool) and so on.
I think I will pay a bit more to stay at a nicer place next time. Extremely dissapointed in the Charltons. 10/10 will not be staying here on our trip next month like originally planned.

Nice location and a front desk asian lady staff was very professional.

A gentlemen front desk staff needs to be retrained. I just needed to get room keys because I already registered. There was a couple in front of me who did not bring a credit card for check in. The front desk staff asked me to wait until they went back to their car and got a credit card. Had to wait for them for 5 minutes. This is ridiculous. After he finished with them, I showed my ID and got my room keys.

Elevator not operating until 8am on Sun. Office closed til 8am on Sun as well.

Very old, dirty hotel. Strong scent from the room. My family almost decided to drive back home without staying. Two light bulbs were burnt and had to be replaced. Dim light even you turned all lights on. Dust everywhere. Thank goodness no bed bugs though. Will not stay here again

It's was a cool loft type thing and I really don't know much about hotel pricing and stuff but in my opinion this seemed soooooo overpriced like the room was kinda small and not really pretty. The loft part had some uneven wood that would like MOVE when you stepped on it.

Stayed in one of the loft suites for 4 nights.

PROS:
-Got a good deal during not peak season (April), and during the week ($110/night). Was suppose to check out on Friday, but I wanted to stay 1 more night. Friday night rate jumped to $275 a night, I asked if they could give me any discount, so they gave me the room for $200 a night so I appreciated that.
-Shower was good, nice pressure.
-Gas fire place
-Big comfy bed
-Two T. V.s
-Hot tub was hot & pool was fun and good temperature
-10 min walk to downtown
-coffee station in lobby

CONS:
-Even though I booked another night they failed to reactivate my key card to my room, so after coming back from downtown late at night, I was unable to get into my room. They made me walk up the road to their sister property to talk to a different person so they could radio someone to let me in, then I had to walk back to my room and they finally let me in. Still didn't activate my card after that. I'm extremely upset about this. NOT COOL.
-holes in the wall and stains on carpet
-steamroom smelled musty/moldy
-false advertising for skipping housekeeping, was suppose to get food voucher but that didn't happen. I suggest getting new door hang tags.
-Credit card was way over charged. I asked about this and front desk said they add $50 a night for damage deposit and when I check out it would be refunded. My credit card has not been refunded yet, so I'll see.

I would have gave The Charltons a 3 or 4 star rating, but because I was locked out of my room and had to walk back and forth to a different hotel late at night they deserve a 1 star. After reading other reviews, I'm not the only one this has happened too, so why does this keep happening? I never got any apologies or additional discounts for this MAJOR inconvenience and safety concern.

Very clean and functional rooms.
Pool and hot tub are decent.
No restaurant or bar onsite.
15 minute walk to town.

My only concern was that the room was soo dirty. Dust and hair everywhere. Other than that everything was great!

Great location. Far enough from downtown to be quiet but only a 15 minute walk to the action. Rooms were basic but bed was comfortable and there was a good amount of storage. We stayed in a loft room and the fireplace was a nice added touch.
Room was a good value for the price. It was clean. Staff was helpful when we needed something or had questions.

We stayed the first night at a 5 star hotel and then the rest of the week here. For the price it's exactly what we were looking for! Good location within walking distance of downtown. The king loft room was special enough to make our stay enjoyable when we weren't out exploring, and the pool and the hot tub were nice when we needed a bit extra. We made good use of the in room fridge and didn't mind that breakfast wasn't included.

The hotel was great, although I did have the two floor room. The pool is average but the hot tub and sauna is above average. Huge firm beds and huge absorbent towels. The fire place was killer but hotel quite a ways from Banff action. Strongly recommended for the price.

Weirdest booking experience. I called to book for a vacation a few weeks away and was quoted $304 for two nights in a room with two queen beds. I got the bill and it was $524. When I called back, they claimed there was no way to get the originally quoted price. Seems like a good money grab, I'd avoid booking here.

Had a bad experience at Charltons. The location is great, but the hotel/service itself needs fixing. The hot tub was “out of order” and we were told each day that it would be “fixed tomorrow”, turns out it worked all along. There was never coffee made in the lobby, we asked several times but none was made. No robes in the bathroom even after a request. Bathroom doors were terrible and did not close. The room was not cleaned for one of our days, with no explanation. No fresh sheets for the 5 nights we stayed.

Fairly priced, cool rooms and great steamer/tub/pool. Good spot for singles, couples and families. Only reason not 5 star is that the rooms are a tad dated but still very clean.

If you wanna come back to your hotel after 11 pm and while you’re freezing outside because your key doesn’t work, see there is no reception to help you (they are gone after 11) YES choose this hotel! Otherwise choose another decent hotel! P.s. We changed our keys three times and this happened again while we had no where to go!

Our stay at Charlton's was very good. The rooms and the facility are clean. You can tell that the building has seen many travelers but I'm okay with that because that's factored into the reasonable price. We found the service to be friendly. The free coffee in the lobby is cute. It's nice if you're looking to be away from the main strip but still pretty close.

Older hotel located on Banff Avenue near the entrance to the town. It's a bit too far from the main action, and the decor needs an update, but it was fairly quiet and clean, and the bed was comfortable.

Definitely only a 3 star place. We stayed in one of the loft rooms.

Everything was clean but the walls are very thin so you could easily hear your neighbors. When someone walked in the adjacent room, our floor creaked.

We had a fireplace room and I'm glad we did. We had to crank the heat to get the loft bedroom area warm.

We stayed here for our wedding (total of 4 nights) and had 5 other rooms with our guests. The staff were so kind and helpful. They made sure everything went smoothly. I was able to put my wedding cake in their fridge. They did up our room for us and made a little wedding cake out of towels as well as 2 swans kissing. The rooms are really nice, the beds are comfy! The pool was awesome. They even have a little cut out part of the pool for kids and the best part, it wasnt freezing cold! The hot tub was great as well and the steam room! This was a first for us here at this hotel and we had a great time!
