(1/2) Dear Circle K, I’m writing this letter about my experience at your store located at 4333 50 ST NW, Edmonton, AB, T6L 7E8. Unfortunately, today I had a frightening and threatening experience at your store on August 15th, 2023; @12: 26AM. Many problems accrued. When I arrived at the store around midnight and there was no refrigerated monster zero energy ultra energy drink. So I had to get employee to locate them, which took quite some time, but the first employee did remain professional. This is also the only energy drink I can purchase as it has zero sugar and I have type-1 diabetes, so I couldn’t just pick another energy drink option.

The 2nd issue was the coupon i had, which was 3 monsters for $6.50 they didn’t know how to apply it properly as I bought 12 and wanted to redeem it 4 times. This took about 10 minutes to sort and figure out for the employees, which was detrimental to other customers time and my time. Instead, I had to make 4 separate purchases and finally the 5th time to complete my purchase. I know this can all be done under 1 purchase as the morning shift employees are better trained and instead would have scanned the coupon 4 times, which I was trying to explain to the employees. It does not appear your employees are properly trained for these types of situations, and in particular your night shift employees.

After paying for my merchandise, the employee asked if I wanted a bag, obviously I said yes, as I had 12 energy drinks. The bag I received must have been damaged, as i’ve carried larger amounts of energy drinks and other miscellaneous merchandise with the bags before. When I walked to my car the bag broke almost immediately, and 5 monster energy drinks were completely destroyed and my other drinks appear to be damaged, and also appeared to be leaking/spraying fluid. Upwards of $63.77 of merchandise I bought completely destroyed with thin seconds of purchasing. I’m self employed and don’t make much income and have chronic health problems; type-1 diabetes, neuropathy, and tendonitis, in which the treatment costs I receive I can barely afford, which is needed to stay alive, especially the costs of the diabetes medical devices. So, in particular this was a very upsetting experience.

I took pictures of the completely destroyed energy drinks on the ground, as I wanted to write a review and complaint initially about not double bagging my merchandise appropriately and safely, so that this problem wouldn’t occur. The employees were obviously not trained properly about the weight capacity of their bags. I also attempted to take a picture of the store, in which the store employee acted unprofessionally, and became erratic, neurotic and psychotic in nature. He confronted me and said, ‘why are you taking a picture of me? ’; I responded it’s a public space. You’re legally allowed to take pictures in a public space. I did no wrong doing. He then continued to harass me aggressively while I was putting the destroyed energy drinks into my car that were spraying all over myself and clothes. This employee harassed & berated me the entire time, while this was occuring. I chose not to respond further, as I quite quickly realized I could not reason with this individual.

I went into my car as I was fearful for my safety and fearful of bodily harm from this employee. He then started taking pictures of me and went to the back of my car and took more pictures of me and pictures of my license plate, which temporarily blocked exit of my vehicle and I was unable to leave the parking lot in my automobile. Intentionally blocking the exit of a vehicle is a criminal offence in Canada. I was also very fearful what other identifiable information he may find from my license plate such as my address, name, or if he would use that identifiable information to make a vexatious complaint to the police with the license plate #, which he could use in order to swat my house and case bodily harm. His actions and demeanour were very threatening in nature.

Called out the staff on their COVID measures posted on their door but not being followed. Staff thinks it was some joke. The one guy brushed it off and told me to call the city. The other guy stood there with his mask covering his mouth and not his nose. The place was packed way beyond the occupancy limit posted on the door. No one wearing a mask, not even staff.

Putting your customers at risk! Nice job. I will be submitting a complaint to your head office and the city. I hope a fine comes your way. Based on your attitude today it may be the only way for you guys to learn.

Great store dispite certain staff who won't get off their phone while conducting business with their customers. Don't buy their frozen pizzas either. I bought one and turned out to be bad. Me and my family got sick. And yes it was cooked properly according to the directions.

Average experience. Usually greeted but rarely helped. They just got a new taquito/hot dog food setup though which might be worth trying.

Always the first to raise gas prices and last to drop gas prices is my reason for the rating. Slupees are good and staff is nice.
