Co-op Food Store (Hawkstone)

I must say the cake decorator in this location, Joy is one of the best in Edmonton. Her cake doesn’t only look good in appearance but undeniably yummy as well. So good you won’t even dare to bother to go try somewhere else. She’s perfectionist and ensures her clients would get nothing but the best quality standard. She’s very accommodating and truly a gem! I’ve tried to order cake in other stores but this one is definitely a keeper!

Removing the gluten-free section makes it challenging to shop if you don't know the store. Sadly I walked out with nothing because I didn't have the time to spend 30 mins trying to find what I was looking for.

I don't think I will come back to this store every again, it is just wasting my time at this point because product is never in stock, their process is archaic, and check out staff is stressed out (at best).

First, a majority of the times when I come for their FLYER ADVERTISED ITEM in the meat department, it is out of stock. Then I get a rain check, but it is never stocked within the next 30 days (which is the time limit noted on the raincheck coupon).

Second, their advertised price is not reflected at the check out some times and it is a pain to get it changed: staff would get stressed out/angry/ sort of lash out at me, and then it would take forever for the worker from the department to confirm actual price).

I don't know why I keep giving this store a chance to change my mind, I don't think they are competent or competitive enough to be a store that I will visit.

You should just grab their FLYER and price match at Freshco or Superstore. Coming here is a waste of your time, everytime.

I recently ordered a cake from this store and I must say, it was one of the best cakes I have ever tasted! The cake was incredibly moist and had a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced. Every bite was a delight to the senses.

But what really made this cake stand out was the stunning decoration. The cake decorator Joy is truly an artist! The intricate details and beautiful design were truly impressive. I was blown away by their talent and creativity.

Moreover, the decorator was extremely accommodating and sweet. They went above and beyond to make sure my order was exactly what I wanted. Their professionalism and customer service were top-notch, and they made the whole experience a pleasure.

Overall, I highly recommend this store's cakes. If you're looking for a delicious, beautifully decorated cake, look no further! You won't be disappointed.

The staffs in the Pharmacy are super nice and helpful but the ones in the checkout counter are sometimes rude and there are really some times that I feel discriminated and some of the staffs are racist. They do not smile and looks like doesn't want to help when they see you then suddenly they change their tone and looks angry when its your turn I observed. I worked in customer service for many years and received various trainings and seminars about customer service so I know if there's something off. I am thinking of not buying and coming here anymore coz I am not comfortable and not happy with their service despite that I am a member and me and my husband used to like coming here and buying our groceries and other needs even if its a bit expensive compared to other stores. We really love the breads/pastries (esp.the croissant - delicious), pork (no smell), chicken and fresh green olives. I'm thinking of sticking to Shoppers with my pharmaceutical needs and Walmart for my groceries and other things. They are far more nicer and helpful and accommodating.
I always check the expiration each time I pick an item coz their are some displayed that are expired already.
Also they do not have internal communication in terms of information they give out on the phone to the real situation on the floor. It makes the customer look bad.
It makes me sad letting you guys go coz I used to love you already but now I am thinking of telling my husband not to buy anything here anymore. I just hope the management will look into this and make an extra time to brief their staff on how to improve their customer service.best

I called customer service and was put on hold for 10 minutes for one question in grocery, I hung up with no help

Coop has decreased the size of their in store french bread by 1/4 of what it was before.it still is the same price though. I will go to Superstore for a full sized loaf at. 95 cents.

A huge shout out to Mahdi from the Deli department. He sliced our deli meats and packaged it perfectly where it wasn’t stacked together. Super thoughtful and very polite! We love coming here…every one is always so helpful and nice! And everything is always so fresh and well organized! Good Job Coop!

The cupcake cake turned out great and kiddo was really happy! The whip cream Icing I think it was just enough sweet and the cake part was super moist Will most certainly come back to get our future cakes!

Hawkstone Coop is a good family friendly grocery store that offers a good variety of choices. The meats are stellar check out the deli for convenient ready made dinner solutions. If you have a sweet tooth check out the candy store.

I love Coop. Unfortunately with the food shortage starting to affect Edmonton the shelves are not as stocked as they once were. Now is the time to buy extra. Ex if you normally buy a can of beans buy 2. Put one away to stock up and use the other as you normally would.

I just wanted to share what i had experienced here. Just went to store today around 9: 30 am to buy some grocery and went to deli area. To start of there was a staff named nancy who helped me to get serve, then theres one staff who approached and served me her name was ROSEtTe, and told her if she could please get me a honey maple ham, then she got the smallest and end part of it, so i said to her if she could changed it cuz i want the bigger one. Then she answered me back with an attitude.tHey are all the same, so i replied i know, but i want the other one not the end part.like i know im just a customer but she should comply with the customers wants. Ive worked in save on foods before but i never did that to my customers. I think she was also the other lady sho served me before and never smiled or anything and complained about her at the manager for being a racist. Im my opinion she should never worked in any service customer related jobs because clearly she is rude and a racist. I hope ull not ruin ur companys name because of your ill-mannered attitude

I received the utmost heartbreaking news today that Devon has sent in his resignation, I feel more broken than the sunflower serving dish my grandmother dropped off the counter last week. Devon was my beacon, my light, my rave glow stick as I made my shopping trips twice a week to this location and I don't know how I will go any further. To be honest, I don't know if I can. And I am not okay with that.

I do take peace in my grandpappy always saying "all good things must come to an end", those words echo in me like the co-op public washrooms right now. Co-op will be losing more than they will ever know. I needed quality Cola but did not want to support the big 2? Ask Devon where the co-op gold is. Need fresh blueberries? He doesn't work produce, but God as my witness he's going to find them for you still. And that you can't get anywhere else.

Rest easy Devon, wherever you shall find employment now, May the 3 wise men of raises, Christmas bonus, and statutory holidays rain upon you. I know somewhere, some way, we will meet again.

I will not return after today due to the shameful display of discrimination from a male employee.

Prices on shelves doesn't match with price on check. Was paying more for 3 items. All I got was sorry. Definitely will not come back

Got the best customized cake for my daughter’s birthday a reasonable price. The cake was so yummy snd the bakery people served us really great. The girl who baked our cake did a great job gor us. She made it exactly the way how I told her. Big thanks to the whole bakery team

I love new fun trending displays. We put together a Mother's Day Brunch to-go! It was our 3rd grocery store & we finally found a mix for scones. Mom will love it!

I shop her occasionally. I find the store convenient however the prices are high.

My complaint is the bakery. After looking for buns this Saturday, I noticed this bakery never had fresh products. The buns were all expiring the following day. The cookies had been packaged days before. It’s evident they are hoping customers don’t look at the expiry dates. I asked for fresh buns which I did get but I’m disappointed that this is a constant issue. No other store does this and I shop around.

I shop here bi-weekly for my house’s groceries, but they don’t enforce Edmonton’s policy on mandatory masks so I will go to a grocery store that does, like Sobey’s.

I’ve been in stores that refuse to serve people unless they have a mask, I’m unsure why Co-Op thinks they are above that.

They should have more than one cashier especially on 15% Tuesday. Always forced to use self check out because of only one till open and always lined up as well at the lottery till. Last time the self checkout was a pain as well as things wouldnt scan. Could be better considering prices are pretty high here.

The bakery department is the worst thing in this store. You can never find fresh bread. I don't know when they are baking but is always a day or two old. Unacceptable to buy old bread, buns for the same price. To bad!

I like thier deli but I have to give a low rating because of what happens when you take deli items to self checkout. Every single item requires assistance
It scans then checks weight then asks for assistance. EVERY ITEM. EVERY TIME. It is slow as hell. No other grocery store has this issue. Self-checkout
is not new. Do they just not care?

I would never want shop here Dustin from deli gave me a middle finger tell me never shop here again. Please report this to mangers from store and deli as soon as possible he cant not be trusted

I think it's bad working environment, very disrespectful from Deli staff worker Dustin that lied about me and got me fired by saying that the world hates me and people are in control of their behavior and you should be a role model for them. This comment is inappropriate for work, also Brenda yelling at me when explaining how to do the weighing items in front of a customer and swearing at work. Jill telling me that we respect each other and have each other back when that's a lie. I will rephrase respect each other means getting along with each other and not be a Toxic person that should reevaluate thier behavior. General manager Norm doesn't care and he believes in other staff that tries to get them into trouble. Jill said I did ok at my job. This to me is confusing how they have terminated me without cause for something I didnt do. Do not shop here?

Meant to do this when it happened. Ordered a B-day cake and muffins for my daughters big day. Went to go pick up early Sunday am. There was a small error and the girl working in the bakery was very kinds and made 12 more cupcakes up right away and then wouldn't accept payment for them! They were delicious and the party went great. Thanks again.

I can't stand shopping here. Their "profit share program" is a joke because a lot of their produce and even canned goods are overpriced. The food expires sitting on the shelf because people buy it elsewhere for half the price. The raspberries and spring mix salad packs are always moldy or expired. Nothing seems to be stocked regularly and their kombucha machine constantly has issues so you lug the glass jars there to find out you can't even fill them. There is no quality control and the self checkout is always unmonitored so if there is an error you're waiting an eternity while the 2 or 3 cashiers on the evening shift just stand there at the same till talking to each other. I will just cut my losses and drive the extra distance to go to the Safeway down the road which is a drastically better experience in every way.

Really friendly staff, they are so nice and help me out every time I come to buy something or refill my water bottles

This location PREFERS you do the work! Lineups of 6 or more people waiting for the one teller while the 6 “do-it-yourself” checkouts are empty. Nobody wants to use the self-checkouts especially on 10% off Tuesday. Plus, they jack up their prices to compensate for the 10% off rebate! Seriously, a 4 pack of corn on the cobs was priced at $7.99! That’s $2.00 a cob!

Great local produce when available, great prices and co-op brands are a great value.
I have switched to co-op from Safeway and Save on Foods because of quality and value. The meat department alone is worth the trip. I talk to the butcher every time and he is willing to custom cut meat for me. Half inch thick steaks, no problem. Need a roast, for how many? Done.

Meat department is great when they have meat although they are frequently out. The bakery staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The best bread in the city. And fresh doughnuts every day. The produce section has a decent variety. The staff is sometimes hard to find but when you find them they are always willing to help. Deli is good with their fresh fried Chicken. Where as the lunch meat section is nothing special. The grocery department is just like any other in the city although they can be more expensive than other stores. The front end staff is always friendly and always treat you like a friend. I always recommend coop to people who ask where is a good place to shop.

Alysha at the deli went above and beyond, extremely good customer service. We had no idea what we wanted to eat but she recommended some top sellers and we enjoyed everything she picked for us. Alysha was very pleasant while another employee at the front gave us a dirty look once we asked to speak to the manager.

Co-op’s prices are higher than Safeway & Sobeys. I asked a couple staff where a could find a couple products and they didn’t know. I felt there was a lack of eagerness to help.

A friend gifted me a co-op card so I went for the first time and was delighted with the amount of gluten free options available. They’re also clearly labelled underneath the price with a big blue label that says ‘gluten free’ so it’s easy to spot the gluten free options amongst the rest. In general the price is higher than the cheap supermarkets, but some of their deals work out better than Walmart’s.

So bad. Constantly have to returned expired products. Shelves not often stocked and when you ask if a person can check the back (it was 8pm and i desperately need a diaper genie refill) they would not check. They just said it'll take a few days to order. I hate it. I try very hard to avoid and go to Safeway (it's way better) and only a few minutes away.

Wonderful staff. Good quality products, and a manager who cares. I have been shopping at this location since it moved in after the Sobeys. Couldn't be happier with the level of service I consistently receive. Bravo.

Stevie and the other guy that is maybe Filipino that work in the bakery are beyond wonderful. They are always so helpful. This morning I went in early and could smell cin buns. The ones on the shelf were cold so I asked if they had been made this morning. She said no but there was some still on the cooking trays and she would give me them instead. Cream cheese on the side because they were still hot. My daughter and I both love your store and the people that work there. Keep up the good work!
