This is our favorite coffee haunt in Cochrane. Excellent coffee and they have decaf on tap! Much prefer this to a watered down espresso called an Americano. Yuk! From the taste of the muffins, top quality ingredients and a chef that knows what to do with them. All served up with a welcome and a smile. That's the way to make a cafe work. Based on my friends comments, don't limit yourself to just the coffee though. Alls good!
Good coffee and great baked goods. The service is incredibly slow though. The half dozen times we’ve been here it’s slow but friendly service. They need to come up with a better order taking and food/drink prep system. Other than that one of our favourite coffee places in town
I can't believe when a cup does not go together with the lid that they try and force it together. It leaks a little bit in the car holder while I'm driving back to work and then when I go and grab it it all explodes and goes everywhere in my car on my pants and everything else. And then once I realize that the coffee is all over the place, it's too late and it's very extremely hot Words of caution if you're going to get a coffee cup from this place, please make sure that you get it with no coffee in it also and then to top it off at the bottom of the coffee cup. When I pulled into another cup it was full of coffee grinds! Really bad!
Hands down, the best coffee shop in town! It’s a great place to slow down our hectic pace and enjoy the log cabin ambiance, always friendly service, and yummy treats. The morning glory muffin is my favorite! It would be great if they offered a cookbook. Hint, hint!
Dropped in here today on my way out to Glenbow Ranch for a hike and OMG I need to get my derrière back there! It’s got a real fireplace! Lots of windows! And I thoroughly enjoyed my jasmine tea and fruit bran muffin! I now need to make a special trip to Cochrane Coffee Traders and maybe get a hike in too
An absolutely adorable quaint little independent coffee shop. Wonderful atmosphere and great staff. Pricey like you would expect a place like this to be
A little pricey. For almost $15, we got a "medium" oatmilk peppermint white hot chocolate and a "medium" iced oatmilk Chai Latte.
The medium-sized drink is more like a small cup.
The peppermint white hot chocolate was light, which was nice. Not overly sweet, also nice. A VERY mild peppermint flavour, I could barely taste the peppermint. It was an okay drink at best, BUT it was less than 3/4 full.
The Chai latte tasted like it was cinnamon oatmilk. Not like chai at all. Undrinkable.
Todays visit only warrants 1 or 2 stars. The extra star (s) is because my other visits were a bit better (enough that I went back.but may not again).
Snuck in on waffel Sunday for some coffee and was super happy with the food and drinks. I got a mocha and he got a London fog. The London fog was the first we've ever tried and it had great flavors. Waffels were very tasty and we stocked up on day old muffins at a great deal! Can't wait to try them! We'll be vack for cinnamon rolls and bruschetta soon
Such a delight! We visited here with new friends and took advantage of their Christmas specials. I ordered the peppermint white hot chocolate. The barista ladies had just had a 3hr non stop rush, and she made mine a peppermint coffee by mistake. She re-made it for me and was very apologetic. I didn't mind at all, and my boyfriend didn't mind either as he got to enjoy the extra mistake order!) Thanks ladies!
First time here. They were super slow with our food. We noticed they didn't give us a number but though it was maybe because ours was to go. Pretty sure they forgot about our order until we went up and asked about it as people after us got their food before us.
Coffee and snacks are good, but the slowest service ever, even to just place an order. If there's a line of more than 2 people, just leave. It will be 15-20 mins until you can place an order.
Slowest, worst service ever. 3/4 times I’ve tried this place, I’ve left while waiting in line, so I’m officially giving up. 3 girls literally walked to the back and were chatting in full view while 6 of us just stood there watching. None of us were acknowledged and one of the girls was cleaning her fingernails as if she didn’t have a care in the world LOL. So insane. I saw 3 people just leave in line and then eventually I did too. I’ve never seen anyone move so slow or look so depressed in my entire life and they’re all so young! Are the owners not paying them enough? Anyway, I’ve given up and will never come back. I only gave 2 stars because the one time I was lucky enough to drop in without anyone in line and the muffin and coffee was good. If you have 45 minutes to wait for a coffee give them a try, or try sunset ridge bakery, they’re so nice, much quicker and the treats are awesome!
Don’t go for the cinnamon buns or coffee. Arrived shorty after 8 AM on Saturday to get two cinnamon buns, gluten free muffin and a short espresso. I was told that cinnamon buns would be ready between 8: 30 and 9: 00 AM. Got the one gluten free muffin to go and asked for a short espresso. Despite this being a coffee shop with a large La Marzocco machine, worker told me she could not make a short espresso. Okay fine. Went back to house to read the news and make my own coffee. Returned to Coffee Traders at 8: 55 AM only to be told that cinnamon buns would be ready in a few minutes. Sat patiently waiting 1 m away from counter and the two servers until 9: 20 AM. Not a single word of acknowledgment from the servers during that time. Finally, gave up and went to Cobs Bakery for two cinnamon buns.
I visited Cochrane Coffee Traders twice over the last week during a recent trip to Cochrane. The coffee shop is very cute and I love that they roast their own beans. I enjoy trying local coffee shops when I travel.
The first time I visited was on a weekday morning and there was no line. I ordered a dark roast drip coffee and a muffin. Both items were great.
On the second visit, I was there on a Sunday afternoon. There were about four people in line waiting to order and two staff working. The wait to order seemed longer than I would expect; it seemed like the staff were moving quite slowly. I ordered a decaf, oat-milk, vanilla latte. The latte itself was great.
Overall, the quality of the items I had were great, but the service seemed excessively slow. I am likely to return, but not if I am in a hurry to get somewhere.
Great coffee. We went for 2 large drip coffees but still had to wait in a long line that was slow. I think there should be a separate line for people who just want coffee vs macchiatos and muffins and cookies etc. Lots of people just want to grab a quick quality coffee but might be put off by the line.
Not only do they make the best coffee in town, the staff are wonderful. Laura is a gem and will make you a coffee and brighten your day. Go see her and leave her a big tip!
Very disappointed, I've tried this place a couple times & each time I'm reminded why I leave completely unsatisfied. Extremely overly priced. I don't mind paying a higher price for something that can provide the quality.but each experience I've been let down, their quality does not line up with their prices. I will not be going back or reccommending this this place to anyone.
I would give 5 stars if the service is faster. A big group of cyclists showed up and that basically paralysed the whole place. They need to at least put 4 staff up front, 2 to make coffee and 2 to take money. Can't expect people to line up for half an hour to get a coffee. Otherwise coffee and pastry are good.
Staff is always friendly even when a crush of road bikers come in all needing espressos! Good baking and nice little seating area outside. Bike stands and clean washrooms.
This is an awesome little spot, great coffee and the muffins are just as tasty as they look in the pictures! Very friendly staff and a cool atmosphere inside that smells like coffee!
'Bean' going for 15 years.some faves changed over the years, but the Jeff and Danielle as owners have created something special with a great culture and atmosphere inside and out, and roasted coffee and muffins, the MUFFINS! I've never been disappointed. A MUST to visit
Wowza! Just stopped in, and they have the BEST cinnamon rolls ever! One cinnamon roll is enough to share. Will be picking some up to bring home next time!
This shop roasts it's own coffee and it is delicious. They have a good sized menu of drinks, something to make most people happy while not overwhelming. And fantastic cinnamon buns - soft and sweet and sticky. The baristas are consistently friendly and helpful. I've never had a bad experience here.
I always love stopping here. It has a comfortable welcoming atmosphere, great coffee and food. The fireplace is amazing and the loft is comfortable for getting some quiet work done.
Walking into a Cafe with a wood burning fireplace and the smell of the fire blended in with gourmet muffins, cookies and sqares a decision needed to be made.and so I decided.a kitchen sink muffin and an Americano to wash it all down.
Loved seeing friends enjoying company and smiling helpful warm and welcoming staff.
Great coffee and fabulous cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting. Their muffins are also amazing with a great variety. They roast their own coffee and have a lovely (seasonal) patio too.
I was here about three weeks back. Seemed like the staff were a bit overwhelmed and there wasn’t much communication happening. Our coffees were all cold by the time we got them and between the four of us who ordered at the same time we got our drinks about 15 minutes apart. I ordered two sandwiches from behind the glass display and was given three totally different made to order turkey sandwiches. The bread was terribly stale so we didn’t even eat one of them.
Very disappointing experience. Hopefully it was just a one off.
My favourite coffee shop this side of the Rockies.
Ambiance is Coffee Traders best feature. It's built like a log cabin and it doesn't disappoint when you enter through its heavy wooden front door. They have a wood burning fire that warms the place all winter long. Lots of seating, but unfortunately no lounge chairs or couches. They updated the furniture upstairs so now there is some booth seating.
Their baked goods are my FAVORITE; if you want a treat for the road or want to catch up with a friend, this is a great place. Their coffee is good, with lots of variety for specialty drinks and plenty of milk alternatives. It's certainly not the best coffee I've ever had, but I've never been displeased.
In recent years, they have been branching into breakfast/lunch types of food. First, I am happy that they have added this to their repertoire, it makes Coffee Traders an excellent spot for meeting/catching up with people. However, quality - in my experience - has been hit and miss. We had Mac and cheese a while ago and it was bland and tasteless, I've had their vegan/veggie wrap and it is well priced, tasty and filling. Their cooler is typically filled with a smorgasbord of options I haven't seen before, so I get the feeling the menu is rotating without any rhyme or reason. I REALLY wish they would narrow the menu and focus on nailing a handful of items. I think wraps and salads would be an excellent place to start (3 options of each + a few breakfast specific wraps). People will pay for quality. You want to charge me $16 for a salad I know will be excellent? I'm game. Their options are presently much less expensive than this, but I am hesitant to buy anything. I've had great experiences with their food, but unfortunately I can't wholesale recommend what they serve (except their baking!)
That aside, I really like Coffee Traders, I think they are a wonderful local business and are an important part of our community.
Great Coffee! I got the dark roast and a puffed wheat square. Been going here for the past 12 years. Always good. Wifi is a bit slow so not the best place to work on a laptop
Stopped here after cycling from Calgary. Friendly staff with good service. They have all types of coffee and large sandwiches. Great outside patio for having your food and drink. I would recommend this over chain coffee shops for selection, service, and ambiance.
Staff treats employees poorly. I worked there for almost a year and was written off the schedule with no notice or reason why. They hired new people and got rid of older people working there. Another girl that worked there was affected by mental health by being constantly 'talked too' by the Manager Hannah. I also tried to sit down and chat with the owner and the staff to discuss my leaving as it was sudden and with no reason. I was also forced to come in by one of the managers while having mono for 2 whole shifts which is unhealthy and inappropriate for staff to have to be forced to come in while sick. Everything is overpriced and not very good.
Good coffee and a great place to just meet up with a friend. The baked goods are very tempting, and ao good. Not so good for the diet but great taaking!
