The Skywalk is in the middle of the highway you may miss it if you don’t pay attention doesn’t look that cool on the posters. And the glacier is too far You can only get on it with a ticket
We did just the skywalk (no glacier walking tour - so can’t comment on that) and were pretty disappointed. It’s essentially a glorified rest stop at the side of the road, with okay views but nothing remarkable compared to other spots along the highway and in the nearby national parks.
You arrive at the glacier centre and they take you on a bus up to the skywalk (which you already drove past). You walk around for a while, walk across the glass skywalk, then get the bus back.
Frankly, the views from the glacier centre where you board the bus are better than the skywalk. Unless you’re super keen to walk on glass, I’d suggest you just skip it and enjoy a coffee/lunch in the cafe, which was quite nice and reasonably priced.
The views are spectacular. The glass in the bottom has a lot of scratches, but the view is still clear. You will get a good photos. There is no time limit for this. It tends to get busy during the afternoon.
A short walk over a glass-bottomed observation platform above the Sunwapta Valley. There are some good views of the valley. There is a waterfall that you can take a good look from the skywalk.
A beautiful place; The architecture is very impressive The views are impressive, although I thought I was going to see the glacier from there… It's a short walk, about 30 minutes.
Great accessibility for wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers. Friendly and helpful staff. Rocco was a great shuttle driver and Hannah was very informative out on the skywalk! (She also was great at stopping silly men from doing handstands!)
One of lifetime experience to touch feel and be around glaciers. We started our day in Columbia icefield with a very nice breakfast in altitude followed by trip to glacier and Skywalk. Icefield explorer bus was very safe and the breath taking scenery the feel was very surreal. Definitely this place should be top in your checklist and don't miss it. It's worth your time and money.
The Skywalk was amazing - incredible views. I didn't realize until I got there that there was a free guided tour available. I did it and really enjoyed it! Thanks Ava!
I get that it's on the side of the highway but everytime I've ever drive past you could just get out of your car then do the I've walk, accept this year you have to take a tourism bus seven km the other direction.
The feeling of standing on such height in middle of rockies is just amazing. The audio guide is pretty informative but you would enjoy the views more. The place can get crowded with so many people clicking pictures. Try looking down from the glass to spot any wildlife, we did see mountain goats.
Well place was as great and safe as it could be the view was amazing and so was the staff. I as a person scared of heights felt it was safe and was able to do the skywalk. Would recommend people to go and learn about the history of rocky mountain. As they give you a bit of a trivia on it. Free of charge of course. However if scared of heights be sure to go with a group that helps for sure.
Has got to be one of the best experience i’ve ever done, staff at the discovery centre and the skywalk were very helpful, friendly, and professional, and so were the drivers.
A very unique view of the Sunwapta River and the valley it has carved.a deep v into the canyon below.you walk out beyond the precipice to see the drop thru the glass floor where you can see the terrain below and any animals like Rock Mountain sheep strolling on the cliff below you. Saw a momma and baby strolling along the hillside foraging for food. Excellent view and interactive guide guide u thru the various displays on animals, ecosystem, geology, and glaciology.definitely worth the money.just make sure to go on a sunny day to see the incredible vistas around the area.
What a pleasant view, it feels so good to see the mountains, clouds, river and tress all around in a view. The staff was super nice. Really well maintained place.
Overall my experience was good. The staff was friendly and the views from the skywalk were breathtaking. This is good for a one-time visit. I had pre-booked my tickets online and once I got to the skywalk location only to find out half of the bridge was closed off because they were renovating. They should have mentioned this online because I wouldn't have gone or paid for something that was restricted or worse going through renovations.
First off this skywalk doesn't go over or even close to an icefield you actually drive 5 mins away from it. You can stand on side of road and see the same view.
2nd. The bridge was under matience and they still sold us the tickets. So that was an absolute joke.
3rd. There was a tour in front of us so we couldn't even walk pass them so we were stuck in a dum tour for a half hour to finally get to the skywalk that was unpassable.
Save yourself the cash grab and park at the toe and just walk up to the icefield.
4th. The bus driver was a dk head cause we were all mad about the bridge and all he did was make fun of is the whole way back cause we never had a smile.
Hans and Elise were incredible guides to the glacier. The highlight of my trip to Calgary, Banff and Jasper. Informative and a great adventure when on the Berg
Really lame and basically a theft. They make you think you're going up to the glacier and then they take you to an old lookout spot on the highway that they installed a glass floor walking area on to.
You're better off just sticking to the highway viewpoints and going to the public glacier viewing spot just past the lodge.
Amazing experience, beautiful views and very well organized. We really enjoyed the audio tour and loved that we could take our time and go at our own pace without being rushed onto a scheduled bus. The busses come every few minutes from the discovery center. We even saw mountain goats on the side of the cliffs.
