I recently visited the Chez Cora location in Edmonton for lunch. As many know, Chez Cora is a popular Quebec-based chain known for reasonably priced breakfast and lunch items. Having tried the original Chez Cora in Montreal, I was curious to see how the concept had translated outside of its home province.
While the menu offerings at the west Edmonton Chez Cora were similar to those in Quebec, featuring staples like crepes, sandwiches, and soups, I found that the quality and recipe lacking still. The crepes tasted overly sweet and the fillings seemed stale. The fruit was nice but this Cora is no worse than any other Chez Cora I have ever eaten at.
The coffee was weak and bland exactly like the orginal. Well, this is the way of North America breakfast places like Denny's, McDonalds, and Good Eat Dinners.
It's clear that expanding nationally has not come at a cost for Chez Cora. It is the same average food with fancy fruit. It is hard to believe this restaurant has been transplanted across Canada. Why not Belle Province?
At around $18 per person for the basic lunch I had, Chez Cora is not expensive by Edmonton standards. However, given the relatively average and uninspired food, I can't say it provides good value compared to other local breakfast and lunch options. It is hard to believe that the brand power of Chez Cora got them into the Alberta market. I'd recommend locals seek out independent cafes for a better breakfast experience.
There was a line up when I first arrived, however the line up was very quick and I was seated right the way. The staff was friendly and helpful. The waitress was on top of our coffee and drinks. The food was great and it didn’t take too long. Overall was very quick service.
Horrible service, moldy fruit. We asked for egg whites off the kids menu and it came out with yolk. We had to wait what felt like forever for the kitchen to remake it. I ordered a side of hash browns and our waitress forgot about them, once our food came the honeydew melon had a strong taste of mold. I wouldn't recommended to go here for breakfast. Horrible experience and such a negative breakfast experience! Will not be returning.
Cora's is a breakfast diner. Don't expect high class dinning, this is good, often sweet breakfast food and lots of fruit. Hot coffee and carbs are the name of the game here, regardless, yum!
Huge portions. The price reflects this also. You won’t be leaving hungry. It’s cooked fresh and full of goodness. The atmosphere is lacking. However it suits with the whole vibe of the place.
Service was great. We never had an empty coffee cup.
I really appreciate the most of the way of giving services from the entrance of the restaurant until the end of my breakfast. The like perfectly the foods, coffees and the most I appreciated is that the understanding of the TINA to our different interests of selecting the foods. I wish I would be again to take my breakfast. We've been to Cora in BC and it was always a busy place. No different here in Edmonton. For a Sunday, the place was packed! But as soon as we walked through the door, the manager, Phil, asked our names and for how many people. So we were on the list right away! Phil was actively putting people on the wait list, which was much appreciated. Our server, Alyssa, was friendly, attentive and very efficient! Our food was delicious, as always. Rosemary's Sunday and Elise Brioche were excellent! Phil made sure tables were cleaned and he even cleaned tables himself. He was definitely a hands-on kind of manager. Thank you Phil and the whole Cora team! We'll be back!
Wonderful food and even better service. I loved that I'm ordering through a server instead of a machine, with a physical menu rather than a QR I have to scan. Very rare with a franchise run restaurant these days
We had an early breakfast on a weekday and it was nice to find the place not excessively busy. The menu has so much variety to choose from and the serving size is reasonable. Our server for the day was extremely friendly and pleasant. I would definitely come back again! Loved the vibes and definitely want to try more items from the menu!
I'm visiting Edmonton and wanted something for breakfast, the Cora in my city often has a 40+ min wait. I ordered, went to the washroom, came back and my food was ready. Less than 5 mins! Amazing eggs, fruit was great and fresh, and the potatoes were delightful. Very nice staff, speedy customer service. My server asked me if I had any allergies, I don't but I really like that they asked! Thank you for having me.
Great breakfast stop! We've been to other Cora's but the one on 99th Ave and 178 st is hands down the best! Great food and staff always. Was so good I forgot to take a picture before I started digging in. LOL. Good job guys!
