Unfortunately I have to give them a 1 star. The initial experience was wonderful - I paid for myself and 8 other family members (including 4 kids) to come spend an afternoon painting pottery. We all had a fabulous time. Sadly when I went to pick up my order my own piece and 1 of the kids’ pieces was not included (I didn’t realize this until I got home). I called as soon as I realized that afternoon, spoke to the owner (can’t remember her name but she had an Aussie or New Zealand accent) and she apologized profusely saying that one of her temporary Christmas staff members must have given the pieces away (2 mugs) but that she would happily give me a credit for them. I wasn’t super happy that the pieces were lost but satisfied with her solution. I asked what the expiration would be on the credit and she assured me that no matter what there would be no time limit, no expiration at all and that I could come whenever and the credit would be waiting for me. Well it’s been 2 years and I called to verify that my credit was still there as I wanted to come and use it and I was just told that they no longer have it.
The worker I spoke to was absolutely lovely and was super apologetic but the results remain the same. The owner hired staff that gave away 2 pieces I paid for and my credit (which is the very least that should have been given) was not honoured.
I will never be returning here and I will absolutely be telling everyone I know not to come here!

Came here with a Groupon and some friends. Not a huge place, but big enough for a few small groups. Plenty of selection and a good variety of paints. Definitely coming back!

The place is a big enough to accommodate a big group if booked ahead and also intimate enough for a date or family outing. The process will require about 2-3 hours and your pottery projects will need to be picked up about a week later. Because they need to be put a pottery kiln. The prices very reasonable and vary depending on what you choose to make/paint.

I love this place so fun! Make sure you bring cash or they can do etrans only. So many nice things to paint, or you can create on your own blank piece such as a plate. Call ahead to make sure they have space and be prepared to pay aprox $60-$100 depending on the item you choose to paint and number of people you bring.

Great environment, good quality pieces, water-soluble paints, friendly staff, even aprons for you to wear! The business is cash and e-transfer only. I have been visiting regularly since I first came.

We had a great experience at Crankpots! The selection was great and the prices are very affordable. Mika was super friendly and the rest of the staff was great too.

This place is a joke, the manager is a joke and there way of conducting business is a joke, terrible customer service and no care for the product or customer.also extremely overpriced. 70$+ on a plate and cup that we spent 3 hours on and it came back with half a dozen black paint marks on it, totally trashed, absolutely no care for the customer. There are plenty other pottery painting stores in Edmonton which are 1000000x better. I highly recommend not going to crankpots unless you want to waste money and have an awful experience.

Amazing atmosphere and great ceramics options. They had so many colours, glazes, and tools to use.

Lovely little place for a date night, to bring kids, or to goof off with your friends. I'm pretty sure that most nights have a special deal going on, so check out their website before you go! A good idea is to make a reservation by phone, to make sure they have space for you. The employees that I've met have all been very kind and very willing to answer questions.

I'll add a picture once we are done our projects. This is a cutest place for date night. They have soooo many pieces to choose from. If you go during the week it's usually really quiet and chill. Highly recommend!

Staff seem overwhelmed most of the time. While painting it was busy and loud (as expected). But the real kicker was when I went to pick up the piece. The staff member pulled my box from underneath 2 other boxes. Both those boxed fell to the ground and she didn’t bat an eye. I went to my car and opened my box and what do you know; it’s smashed. Like no wonder with the way they treat these boxes (paid customer products). I was lucky and got a refund but just left a bad impression of the place. Wish I could have had a better experience.

What a wonderful place. The staff were friendly and helpful and there were a lot of different items to choose from. Lots of fun to bring the family or a date!

Based off the poor condition I got my stuff in I sadly have nothing good I can say in my review as after the time and money spent on my projects to get them back with multiples smudges, lots of little specs, and a chip on my cup is more than disappointing to say the least which is why I would not recommended anyone wasting their time or money to complete pottery here!
Also find it slightly appalling that the studio took zero owner ship and made absolutely no effort to rectify or compensate me for ruining my projects even after leaving a review on their Facebook page in May of this year! So again would not recommend anyone else waste their time of money at crank-pots!

We would have been better prepared for payment had we known that you only take cash or etransfer. It all turned out fine in the end. A fun experience with our grandkids today. Thank you Amy.

Love going there to paint the atmosphere is wonderful and I really enjoy painting.very happy to be able to get back to doing this. Have been very busy lately so when my BFF reach out I was glad to have a chance to take up ceramic painting again

A great place for a creative date night or fun with family and friends. My girlfriend and I had a blast painting our mugs and they turned out great!

Went there on March 5th, no return call to advise our items were ready. Stopped by April 24th, we were told they couldn’t find our items and they would call us back. It’s now April 30th and still no news from them. This is $50 I will remember wasting.

One of my favorite places to go with my mom to hang out and catch up. You can create fun projects, presents and memories. I've had birthdays there as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult. They have an array of items to paint ranging from beginner to more complicated pieces, functional or decorative.

Great selection of pieces to work on. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We were a group of 5 girls celebrating a birthday. We had a great time. It did get quite busy around 2pm, but it did not take away from the fun!

The Groupon deal was a steal of a deal and while I was amused painting my ceramic, Ace is not impressed #totallyworthit

Products and service are well above the bar. One of the few places left that will go above and beyond customers needs.

Fun place but not safe during covid. All paints and brushes shared by everyone and not sanitized after use. Too many people impossible to socially distance. Even the tables and chairs aren't sanitized after people leave.

Would be nice to have a cooler with drinks to buy. Very thirsty after 3 hours of painting. Or music playing.

Lots of choices and colors, they're very up front about their pricing which is appreciated. Other patrons didn't wear masks while at their trables painting, vwhich made me uncomfortable - we had to share a table with a group that had removed their masks.

Fun place to go to for a bit of a distraction from day to day life, with good variety of ceramic items to paint.

They have so many items to chose from. Prices are reasonable. Chloe was very helpful amd super friendly! Can't wait for it to be all painted and kilmed.

My kids painted a couple of items and then we forgot about them. Months later we remembered and they still had them for us! Excellent!

Chill date idea. Quiet place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Lots of ceramic selection. Lots of glaze colour selection. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Just the sort of dope small business you would expect down Whyte Ave. Would hate to see this place go under like so many others. However, they only take cash. This choice is incongruent with their business model; some of the ceramics are too expensive to expect cash. I would strongly encourage them to invest in a POS system to take card payment (even if it's PayPal or Square or something). You can't be a legit business these days and only take cash and expect to thrive. I know these systems are expensive upfront, but the lost opportunity cost is probably more; some surveys suggest cash-only businesses lose out on up to 48% of their customers. I would not be surprised to see a customer choosing a less expensive piece to paint than they otherwise would have simply because they only had $40 in their pocket at the time.

Cute place for a date. Might be a little crowded when it's busy and it's kind of a cramped space. They give you a run down of the procedure as well but doesn't feel like the workers care about you - has a "do whatever you want" attitude. Overall pretty good place.

Went to Crankpots and the woman behind the counter was talking so fast I had to get her to repeat herself a few times. She seemed annoyed that I wasn't understanding. My friend arrived a bit late because she takes DATS and the woman working at the store seemed to give us attitude for the rest of the night.

At 8: 45 she told us we needed to leave. I asked if we could wait inside for the DATS bus; it was arriving soon. The woman told us we would have to leave. The sign on the door says 9pm, so why did she kick us out at 8: 45?

She was rude and the pottery is expensive compared to Clay and Cupcakes. We will not be coming here again!

My daughters and I had a wonderful time painting our Xmas tree's. We can't wait to see the final products. We are going to make a point of going there again soon.

They only take cash, and you have to leave it there for a bit after you paint so they can glaze and bake it.
Lots of deals for students and they have discounts during certain times. Lovely and calm atmosphere inside; I could spend all day in there.

Fun place for some self care, a friends night, or a date night! Reasonable prices, lots of great options, and great staff.

We had so much fun! We each picked about a $20 piece but did not realize how long it took to paint them! My sister in law had to come back for a second trip! However they were very accommodating for us! We lived out of town and they put a rush on our pieces!

Lots of options as far as pottery goes, and lots of paint colour options! My sibling and I took our mom for Mother's Day and it was a big hit. Helpful staff and a relaxing atmosphere, although they play the radio the whole time, which is a bit irritating. Very nice on the phone, held our piece longer than usual upon request since we couldn't pick it up within the allotted time. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion.
