Still a good place to have breakfast in Calgary; however, I ordered the special (chili and eggs), and the beans were dry and hard to chew. It was overcooked.
It's a very cool diner atmosphere, which I love. The service was outstanding, and though the hollandaise was a bit spicy for me, I enjoyed every bite. We'll definitely be going back.
Food might be good but wouldn't know as I couldn't get in the door. As a wheelchair chair user I called ahead and reviewed facility that claimed to be wheelchair accessible. Being assured that this was an accessible facility, I arrived to find that in, fact it is not! Staff made no attempt to try to help me get inside nor even offered an apology. The person I was to meet also was dumbfounded that this happened. I was stranded out in the rain and had to find a ride to not leave me there. Not good, but even worse by staff indifference. Sad this happens especially when business says they are accessible. THEY ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE! Zero stars if there could be!
Having been to 3 other Diner Deluxes I was pleasantly surprised by this Diner! It’s retro atmosphere is a reminder of days gone bye. The food was outstanding. I had the Cluckin’ Delicious, truly delicious! The waitress was friendly and recommended good choices for toast and jam. All around this is one place that could easily become a regular eating place!
Food was good but the last few visits my food came out a bit cold. So kind of disappointed. Usually a wait time during weekend brunch. About 20-40 mins. If you go, try their meatloaf hash skillet.
Server was very curt and almost rude. Maybe she was busy and stressed, but it came off as she was forced to serve us and didn't want to. My dish was good, but the hollandaise sauce was a little too vinegary. We went there because their menu says they have Belgian waffles. They are not true Belgian waffles. Very dissapointed as this was the only reason we came here. Over all the experience wasn't what I was expecting.
Hands down the best breakfast place in Calgary! Great atmosphere and decor, and exactly what a breakfast should be. Be prepared to wait to be seated, but it's well worth it!
Lol, can this place get any more reviews! But, seriously amazing breakfast! On the weekends plan to come a bit early because there will be a wait. But, its soo worth it!
For what has been voted one of the best brunch places in Calgary, I was extremely disappointed. Service was few and far inbetween, portions of food came out cold, items were forgotten, and they were required to take down our credit information in order to process it. I will not be going back.
The food in this location was good, but there is a lack of choice for gluten free vegetarians (specifically for children). It was busy and we didn’t hear much from our waitress, had to ask others walking by for simple things like utensils and napkins etc, or even drinks for the kids.
It’s been such a long time since I visited Diner Deluxe! I forgot how awesome it is! Our server (Dane) was super personable and honestly made our experience wonderful. He recommended the Yukon Gold Potato Rosti (I got it stuffed with Quebec cheese curds) and it was truly worth the calories. Also, I just want to give an extra shout out to Dane! I noticed the table next to us were being difficult customers but he handled the situation very patiently and professionally. I’m always impressed by great customer service!
Good food! Seems expensive but the quantity is filling! Busy location on weekends. Slow service sometimes but worth it for the food! I wish they had a basic eggs Benny tho
This is an awesome Diner with great food. Everything looked so good I had to try both the blueberry pancakes and eggs Benny. My wife had the avocado toast. She loved it
My daughter ordered the family a breakfast and I am very disappointed with this order! My entire order was cold nothing was even remotely warm. I paid for Avacado eggs Benny which I got barely Avacado and it’s looks like old gaucamole and as for the hollandaise sauce I paid to get an extra container for 1.50 and got a 1/4 of what I got on my meal. The poutine tasted, smells, and looks like potato salad, so did the Benny due to hollandaise. The only decent item I receive from my order today was the yogurt parfait this entire order is UNSTOMACHABLE AND NOT WORTH MY MONEY (70 bucks)
So I just want to say this amazing little diner not only makes amazing food, but the staff absolutely all deserve 12 stars out of 5 for sure. They are the most amazing group of people you will ever encounter. If you eat here you will definitely be leaving with a full happy belly and a genuine smile on your face. <3
What happened to this place? , years ago was an outstanding diner with elevated, carefully thought and well executed dishes (my first visit 13 years ago, a favourite ever since), I had my best walleye there, or a great smoked salmon platter, even the chicken soup was amazing. Now, sadly it seems to me, a place which profits on the name, the menu is nothing like it used to be. In our last visit (by the way, I mean that, "the last one"), the guy at the door, comes to us and says: "how can I help you? ". I thought: really? , how can I help you? , what happened to: "welcome, table for two? ". Food was close to terrible, we went for the meatloaf, and we got a cold, very cold plate with a pile of food, cold eggs, cold pieces of potato, cold unseasoned arugula (when the menu says, sautéed spinach). Sad experience, specially if you know what that place used to be.
What can I say, Never had a bad breakfast here. Portions are really good. Bring your appetite. Staff are always friendly and good spirited. Weekends are usually busy, but it is well worth the wait.
I went here about a month ago now, and i got a skillet with pulled pork, carmelised onions, apples and some other delicious ingredients inside! It was a really amazing dish! There were several bursts of flavours. The staff was also very nice and very attentive. I would recommend this place for everyone who is looking for a fantastic place to eat!
One of my favourite breakfast places in the city. They offer many gluten free options too, and thats really important for me, as my partner is celiac.way to go guys, cant wait to go back.
When I moved back to Calgary a year ago, a friend that comes through here all the time told me that I needed to check out Diner Deluxe. Typical to his usual stellar advice, Diner Deluxe is indeed, the best breakfast place I've had the pleasure to visit.
Take the combination of sub-hipster vintage décor, it's open bustling environment, killer coffee, friendly and prompt service and fresh, lovingly prepared ingredients and you have a recipe for success.
I recommend everything on the menu as well as getting there with some time to spare, for you may have to wait a little bit. Typical wait times are between 20-30 minutes for peak, though I find it usually quicker.so grab a cup of coffee in the breezeway and make chit chat with your party, for it is absolutely worth the wait
If you see a line-up out the door, then you've probably found Diner Deluxe. It's fairly busy on the weekends, not bad during the week.
If you want to know the truth, it's worth wait.inside it's like a retro cafe from the 50s - with funky 50s mismatched furniture. There's even a breakfast bar if you're by yourself and want to read the paper while you eat.
The coffee is organic and fair trade - which is important to this coffee drinker. I love the fact that the cups are bottomless. (You can't get that at those high power coffee chains, can you?)
The food is good wholesome stuff - like locally made sausages, eggs and toast.
My favourite breakfast place in Calgary, difficult to pick one dish as everything is amazing but obviously the eggs benny is my go-to. Servers are efficient and perky, very unique interior/decor. Love this place.
One of our favorite breakfast places. We usually arrive early and don’t have a problem getting a table but it fills up fast. If you arrive after 10 expect a wait. Nice, varied menu and cute atmosphere.
Very charming restaurant, with authentic mid-century decor. The food was everything I hoped it would be and more. Our waiter was very pleasant and very helpful.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. Can get really busy especially on the weekend. Skillets are your best bet if you like delicious homemade food. Always reminds me 50s diners.
Ok so let’s start with outside: In all fairness it’s right on Edmonton Trail. So lots of traffic=dust and dirt+it’s winter. Decor: When you come into the restaurant there is a little waiting area. Walk through it and put your name down. I didn’t see a sign but we kinda figured that out lol. So there is a 50s type flare but I wouldn’t say it’s a theme type restaurant. Be prepared for busy and loud talking lol Food: OMG I am in love with the eggs benny! The best I have ever had in my life! The hash browns were also very good. My side of bacon was also tasty. My wife had breakfast Poutine also vary good and we shared the stuffed the French toast. So all in all food was amazing and fresh. Service: Fast friendly and very helpful what more you want! We will be back!
I visited not long ago for a brunch date and I was really impressed! The food tasted fresh and well balanced, I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict! It was their daily special, it came with a few extras not listed on their website menu (asparagus) and was really well done!
It was really busy when we arrived but only had to wait about five minutes before we were seated, not a bother at all!
The place has a really great nostalgic vibe, lots of cool decorations and the staff seemed really well organized. A great experience overall!
Omg the food was amazing, serving times not quite as responsive but i guess they get busy coz they’re good at what they do.and oops, portions are huge and convenient, i even had leftovers. 1 constructive criticism, if i may, no offense but your plates look old.and i know it’s the design of it or something but you might wanna re-fresh things up? Please? Fantastic!
Great food and friendly service. The line up to get a table can get pretty long on the weekends so be prepared to wait if you go at a popular time. Well worth the wait in my mind.
We both had the Smashed Avocado Sandwich today. Good service, great vibe, but sadly this was a big disappointment —although it is pretty. Extremely skimpy brush of avocado (couldn’t taste it and could hardly even see it once you moved the eggs), tomatoes were jarringly cold, and my friend’s hash browns were cold - twice. At $16 per, there are better bangs for your buck on their menu. I don't think the Avocado should be the main in the title - we both felt misled and I am not sure I will be going back. Also, the place was suffocating and stuffy by the end of our meal.
Usually busy for a weekend brunch but the line moves quickly and the food is worth waiting a couple minutes for. My go to is the huevos rancheros - assembled a little non conventionally but tastes great.
Diner Deluxe is exactly what i needed, its been over 25 years since I've felt the way I did. I went there had a cup of coffee which brought me back to growing up with my grams and mom. I continue to go here and have my cup of coffee on my day off, thank you for making each visit special.
The staff if great as well, the food, the food is comparable to diner's in new york city and new jersey.
Diner Deluxe has been around for a while in Calgary for breakfasts. Usually on the weekends the line ups can get long but if you're lucky enough to get a seat my favorite here is the omelettes. Ordering the Rocky Mountain Omelette comes with a nice mix of smoked bacon, eggs and caramelized onions (flavor is decent). The hash here isn't too bad (good seasoning and buttery flavor). Prices here are around $15 - $20 per dish.
Amazing. Why didn't anyone tell me about this place earlier. The food is to die for, amazing atmosphere and wonderful staff. I would highly recommend Diner Deluxe to anyone.
Not impressed when I go every couple weeks and spend a lot of money at Diner Deluxe and most of the time my meal is amazing but the only time I complained about my meal nothing happens and I get no offer of anything else or it off my bill when I ate nothing on my plate. Will be moving my business else where.
The food was 100% awesome and the service was great. Coffee was full and topped up all the time. Waitress took the time to help me pick something I would like and did NOT disappoint.
Diner Deluxe is always a great spot for breakfast. I come to Calgary at least once a year for work, and I make a point to eat breakfast at Diner Deluxe one or more times during my visit.
I think quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had! The homemade strawberry jam, and skillet I had were amazing! Staff was very nice, accommodating, and personable. Only criticism would be that the air flow inside isn't the best especially seeing as the place is packed with people.
