Dorinku Osaka

Amazing experience and delicious food. Staff service was awesome and very accommodating for the huge table we had in a private room!

We went to dorinku for a quick drink prior to a dinner reso nearby. Hoping to get a bit of an atmosphere that matches the aesthetic. Instead we got 12 mins before someone acknowledged us in a somewhat empty place. This place has some serious potential but completely misses the boat on service and vibe. Turn your music up to a point where we could hear it would be a start.

I have heard about the service from a couple of different people but always want to try for myself. Unfortunately, they were proven right.

Whyte Ave is a bit better.

I've been here twice and my experience was pretty much the same. The food is delicious and the service is great.

The corn starter is a must have.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant at the core of Edmonton downtown! I was visiting my sister from Toronto and it was worth the travel.

Food: I have been to many Japanese restaurants and they are one of the most memorable places. Very flavourful and unique. Worth the travel and a must-try.

Service: All staff was extremely courteous, friendly, and accommodating.

Ambiance: Excellent! Unique, interesting, yet cozy and comfortable.

Although the food is good I have went here multiple times an hour sometimes an hour and a half before close just to find it closed.if you’re closed just change your hours? Like there’s no reason for me to see you’re closing a whole hour before the indicated time of closure, it’s quite upsetting.

The beef tataki was savoury however twas a bit salty, same as the edamame. Overall food was great! I’m definitely going back, order the same but request for a little salt

Love the food and had to go try the new Ramen place in the back, I love Ramen and I can definitely say that this is some of the best Ramen I have ever had, just don't forget to pay for parking, I forgot and it wasn't even 5min inside and when I ran out to deal with it I already had a $50 ticket.

Really great vibes and a different experience compared to the one on Whyte.
The staff was friendly, food was good, and drinks.also good! I think the deserts could use a revamp (in my opinion). Would definitely recommend checking out and even sitting at the bar having a drink and a snack would be an experience (even solo)!

The sushi is always amazing here, my favorites are the TNT pressed sushi, salmon pressed sushi, and spicy tuna on crispy rice. The atmosphere and decor is great, and the service is really nice, although it can get super busy for lunch and dinner.

My favorite dish here is AAA Beef Pressed Sushi. The beef is on point, plus the mayo which really enhances the taste overall. This dish never disappoints me. A close second will be Salmon Pressed Sushi. It seems like this is the best seller, everyone orders this when they go here, and it is really good. Really worth the hype! Other dishes I recommend to try is Shaka Shaka Fries. It is fries with Dorinku’s signature seasoning, it is a great appetizer.
Remember to put reservation down before you go because they are always busy, and the line can be really long during rush hours

Happy hour menu is great. The udon and ramen are super tasty. Shake fries are fresh and the takoyaki is perfectly made.

Contemporary atmosphere with cool music and vibes. Went for vegan food, only two items; a starter and the ramen. We ordered both, the starter was 3 pieces of tofu in a delicious sauce. The ramen was lackluster. No protien, and very few vegetables, save for some mushrooms, cabbage and brunoise shallots. Broth was delicious. But all extras are charged.

Really cool place to eat, atmosphere was very "Japanese nightlife" neon signs and private rooms for reservations. Food was amazing. Try the appetizer tray before anything, gives you a little sample of some great food. The Japanese Cheesecake was awesome. Would go again 10/10

By far the best Japanese restaurant in the city (even better than the Dorinku Tokyo one). Myself and my family went there for a Sunday lunch. We ordered some of their Shaka Shaka Fries and Chicken Naanbaan bowls. Food was great, perfectly cooked. The fellow who was the waiter was excellent, answered all questions we had about menu items, and was very attentive. Overall excellent experience! Hopefully one day these folks open another Osaka restaurant in South Edmonton Common. The drive is the only annoying bit for such great food!

Fresh sushi and awesome truffle items. Service was good in general but we were given really dirty bowls for our ramen. Food items were caked on all the bowls we got and the wait staff had seen it as she tried to pick it off and even replaced them and they were still appalling dirty

So to the Dorinku team, please note that a trendy place and a good food (and you do make good food) do not excuse bad service!
I do not appreciate your waitress Standing above our heads looking at her watch every minute because the kitchen is closing in 10 minutes (even though it was over an hour prior to your closing time and we We're sitting there at least 10 minutes prior to being Attendant).
Your cook can and will wait 3- 4 minutes more so we can actually decide what we want!

We do understand and appreciate waitresses work on tips, had the service been better the tip would have been larger.
That said, when we give you a $100 bill and we ask for a specific change And the numbers are not to your liking (we gave 15% of the tap, paid half on card half chash). It's NOT okay to make us wait over 10 minutes going back-and-forth telling us you don't have change in a Very unsettled way Hinting that you expect a specific amount as a tip.
The tip is for excellence of service, there was no excellence Tonight.

I must say I was very surprised by the conduct!

Quick service and vegan options. The tofu appetizer was full of flavor but the vegan Ramen was a little bland and didn't have much veggie additions.

Incredibly fast service and delicious food! The patio is large, but because it's on Jasper, it wouldn't be my personal preference to eat outside next to a busy street.

The truffle udon is outstanding and the pork salad was a nice balance because the udon is a fairly heavy dish. The tuna tataki was very good and though there were only five pieces, they're decently sized.

Came during their happy hour and was able to try a good variety of items from both the happy hour and regular menu!

Everything was so well prepared and tasted extremely fresh.

We had the takoyaki, chicken karage, tuna tataki, avocado pressed sushi, and the Toro pressed sushi. Highly recommend getting the pressed sushi if you're coming here!

Both locations are fantastic but this is my favorite of the two. Definitely a top spot for Japanese in the city, don't sleep on dorinku.

Awesome delicious food as well as amazing art and staff. Funny, helpful, and kind workers who will greet you the second you come in the store. The only thing that made me put 4/5 stars was because the food took a while to come, but it was delicious. Other than that everything was great!

Osaka has a chill vibe going in compared to Tokyo. It's more modern izakaya atmosphere. The takoyaki was piping hot and the texture was crunchy. The Shaka Shaka fries was okay as it was fries shaked in a bag with seasoning, but still good. The carbonera udon was hot and creamy. The oyster was fresh and cleaned thoroughly. The ponzu sauce that came with it was slightly sweet, and compliments the oyster.

Overall, good atmosphere, good pricing. Only disappointing thing was I over hyped myself for the Shaka shaka fries.

NEW UPDATE:
went to Osaka again on a Friday night. I was a little disappointed this time as I had a good time from my previous review.
This time we ordered:

Chicken Truffle Shoyu Ramen (16.80)
It was just average. The ramen came with half cooked egg, chicken chasu, some yu choy. The broth was just okay as it had little flavor and didn't taste the chicken -flam-soy broth. The chicken and the egg was just okay.

Cream Truffle Udon (16.80) :
The udon was pretty good, the cream was rich (a bit too rich if you aren't used to the creaminess). It can be a bit over powering sometimes.iSHIYAKI BEEF BIBIMBAP (15.80)
The bibimbap was good as it was really colorful and the texture of the rice was spot on. It was a little salty to taste and we ended up not finish it.

Appetizer platter (17.80)
Comes with 7 daily specials, but I only tried 3.
The ebi shrimp was good, but eat it right away as the crispiness disappears.
The beef tataki was pretty good, the presentation could be better, but the taste was spot on.
Taco Wasabi: the chopped octopus with wasabi dressing was my favorite. The spice was not too strong and sandwiching it with seaweed and a slight dip in soy sauce was good.

Clams (forgot the price, was around 18.00)
The clams was a disappointment. There were lots of empty shells, the broth that it was bathing in was really salty. The salty was too much, so we didn't finish it. It could've been paired with something plain like rice or bread to balance the saltiness.

Bluefin tuna sashimi 5 pc (22.80)
The bluefin came in a delicate design, highlighting the main attraction. It came with ginger, shiso leaf, mejiso (shiso sprouts), and REAL wasabi. The bluefin texture was soft and had a bounce to it. Eating it by itself it didn't taste anything special, but the combination of the shiso and the tuna made it stand out.

Great service and food last night. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed our first time eating at Dorinku Osaka. Will definitely come back!

Amazing food, but an even more amazing waitress, I didn't catch her name but I wish I would have. Such a gem!

Good japanese food with a little western twist. Staff is friendly and didn't have any problems.
They give you so much water.

Great food but very expensive for the portion sizing. Tuna Tataki is only 5 pieces for the price you pay… kinda disappointing. The ramen bowls are also half-full with a negligible amount of noodles. Not worth the $14.80. There are places in Edmonton with lesser priced bowls and fuller portions. The music is also way too loud to have a conversation. Service was alright. They got rid of late night happy hour and it seems to only be for 16: 00-18: 00.

The food the manager and the waitress that I had the pleasure of enjoying on my visit was absolutely stunning.

Bathrooms were omni-gendered and very clean.the food was absolutely amazing, the manager friendly and accommodating, and my waitress was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

Oh yeah and a cook actually came to our table and prepared our brick seared beef, to order, right in front of us.

The beer was delicious, and I couldn't believe the prices.

I would definitely return if my situation allowed for a repeat visit.

DORINKU I LOVE YOU

The tuna tataki is perfection. It always tastes super fresh, is perfectly seared and is seasoned beautifully. 10/10
I’ve also had the spicy miso ramen, it was also a 10/10. I get mine with added spinach, extra chive and another ramen egg or two. Trust me, get an extra ramen egg, they are out of this world delicious.
The bluefin tuna, worth every penny too. 10/10

A stray from traditional Japanese, the menu centers on fusion style food and nothing is really defined as one cuisine of another, is it Japanese, Korean, other? I found the pricing quite high for what I received. While the food isn't bad per say just not worth the bang for the buck in my experience

I love the late night menu! Even if it isn’t the full menu, it still has a good variety and options to choose from! It’s a great place for late eats and drinks!

Dinner here was good. The staff were attentive and the food was tasty. The shake shake fries seasoning is amazing. The fires themself are average but the seasoning makes it great. I ordered a carbenerra udon dish (forgot name) but it was creamy and tasty. They don't skimp on sauce and the flavours are rich. The saltiness is high, but I like that so it worked for me, but if you don't like super salty food, maybe pass on this dish.

Food was amazing, I remember coming here with my family and they loved it. I came back recently to celebrate a birthday with my girlfriend, they gave us free cheesecake! The atmosphere is welcoming and there's a Japanese nightlife vibe, the food is a bit expensive so I recommend coming during happy hour! My favorite was the cream truffle udon and I loved it so much that we actually bought more for take out after our dinner!

I recommend this place if you have a little extra money to spend and want some good quality food, although if you want cheap and plentiful you might want to try somewhere else.

The food, fantastic. The spicy miso ramen, gyzo, and sushi- fantastic! However, today was the second time I was there and the first time, the service was mediocre but the service today.garbage. I would say the waitresses name but I don't think it's kind to publicly shame, but I will say that if you do come here and you're only with one other person.prepare to be ignored for a while. When my sister and I first got there, it took her 20 minutes to come by while she was constantly at the table beside us. And then when it was time to pay.she never came by and a good half hour had gone by before I decided to just get up and go to the front. Funny enough, she was standing and talking to someone but then rushed over to us. Anyways, wouldn't recommend when you're with one other person. Never tipped so low in my life.

Fun Japanese inspired restaurant on Jasper Ave. Tasty food, friendly service and good cocktails. New fabourite.

Food was awesome, we ordered a few dishes to share but our favorites were the pressed salmon sushi, Hamachi cerviche and truffle udon. Service was good too. However, took a star away cos we were placed in a small room away from the main room even though we made a resevation. It was small and the music was blasting, we were flighting to talk over each other and it just lacked the atmosphere the main restaurant had. A little disappointed over that. Overall food was good.

Friendly staffs and great food. Portion is a bit small, but overall an awesome dining experience.

Always an amazing time. Great cocktails + Food! Ask for a Sake Bomb! You won't regret it. The Sashimi is the best I've had in Edmonton.

It was my first time there today and I was thoroughly impressed! The food was super delicious. Not joking because we went there to talk business but we couldn’t stop commenting about the food lol. Our server Jake was really attentive, gave us recommendations, and even remembered our names up until we left! It was a great experience and atmosphere so we’ll definitely come again! P. S I never give online reviews, but it was an awesome experience so I just had to!

Easily one of my go-to’s for great service and delicious food. The server’s here are always awesome; very attentive and care about your experience. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or get together with friends. My personal favourite dish is the spicy miso ramen! The only downside to this place is the scare parking at peak hours in downtown. Overall, I would recommend!

Very limited menu. Not the same like whyte ave one. A bit disappointed tbh. The crab fried rice taste good tho. The other dishes are just meh. Service was good and fast. Weird thing is if u sit close the entrance u can’t order ramen.so weird.

There is a ramen restaurant in the back that I'm currently hooked on. The Chicken Shoyu is superb and the Spicy Miso is excellent (note that it's pretty spicy and I'd recommend ordering it "half spicy")

The good: Nice decor and trendy. Pork (katsudon sando) was crispy yet incredibly tender inside. Shaka Shaka fries were delicious and we'll spiced and very plentiful. Portion size is good and the value is there.

The bad: Music not my style (Japanese hip hop) and maybe a bit loud for the lunch crowd

The ugly: Separate seating if you want ramen in the back lounge -my wife loves ramen so I kind of feel bad if I'm forced to get ramen to sit with her when I would prefer to try something else off the menu.

Overall I will be going to back to try more of what Dorinku Osaka has to offer especially the supper menu.

Food is great, service was great too. We went to the main dining room on a Friday and didn’t have to wait for a table (not sure if there was a a wait for the ramen room). Definitely a different atmosphere than the other Dorinku (its more upscale looking and is like a lounge vibe - apparently there’s a DJ later in the evenings too).

Super funky spot with great quality everything and a delicious variety of authentic and playful Japanese food. Fun and tasty cocktails too. Jennie, the manager, is super welcoming, energetic and may I say HOT! Keep up the great work!
