Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets

I have been coming to Douglas Fir since 1997 when it was last renovated. This resort is deteriorating as original pool is out of service. In addition the laundry mat & convenient store is closed. Saunas are also out of service. Prior to Covid this Resort was always full, this time around about 1/3 full. Waterslides & indoor playground is still a hit with my grandkids and the reason I still come with my family as we have nice past memories. Did not see housecleaning at all, in the past they checked on us daily. Maintenance was very helpful, our cable was not working and came right away and fixed it, he asked if we needed anything elses, brought us extra blankets & towels.
Resort is in a desperate need of a major renovation, repairs and upgrades. Repair the amenities it once had and restore the satisfactory services. Great location and nice charm to it. My family still wants to come next year, hope the resort is still operating.

Although I'm not handing out a perfect score, I assure you that we had a good stay. The rooms are a little run down, yes, but if you're looking for a cabin getaway that feels rustic and is at the edge of town (not a busy street) this one is pretty good. I suppose for the space you get, the prices aren't too bad. I'm sure we could find nicer and cheaper accommodations.but I'll be back.

Lodge rustique, à proximité d'une station de bus et de sentiers de randonnée. Le balcon est assez grand et nous avions une belle vue sur les montagnes. Les spas intérieurs et extérieurs sont un gros plus après une journée de rando! Il y a aussi des glissades d'eau pour les enfants. Air clim et chauffage facilement ajustables au besoin. Le personnel est très gentil. Points négatifs - l'équipement de cuisine est rudimentaire, la femme de chambre passe vraiment tôt (donc si vous voulez dormir plus tard, le ménage ne sera pas fait), pas de divan et le BBQ est plutôt loin.

We stayed in a lovely little loft apartment here, with two beds in the loft and a Murphy bed in the living room below. We had two bathrooms, a comfortably sized kitchen (oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher), and a small dining table.

The apartment was so cozy! Some reviews complain about an 'outdated style' but I loved the warm, nostalgic log cabin vibe, and would take it over a minimalist white hotel any day. Everything was clean, comfortable (even the murphy bed), and the view was gorgeous! There's also an outdoor hot tub with lovely views, waterslides and pools inside, tons of parking, and walking trails surrounding the property. All the staff we talked to were kind and helpful.

There were a few minor annoyances (a broken screen door to the porch, two missing drawers in the dresser, a broken switch on a lamp) but nothing too inconvenient! If you expect cozy cottage vibes, you won't be disappointed.

I found the previous reviews are misleading. Thought it was a great place to spend a night. Booked the non-smoking room, but the smell of cigarettes was overwhelming and the couch was so dirty, didn't even sit once. Service was great though. Can't say about amenities as couldn't use any of them. I regret booking this 'resort'.

Great price for the location, and you have everything you will need - from flat iron to kitchen. You get free bus pass too for three days though we didn't have to use it. The staff were nice which is great!

Cons: just old things but still works!

The buildings are visibly old. But the room we got was clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The kitchen is well-equipped with almost everything we need. The washrooms were clean. The balcony although lovely was somewhat dusty. The service is excellent and the location is very convenient. The bus passes were handy.

Our family loves this resort as they can go on the waterslides every day as well as the indoor playground. The chalets could use some modernization but overall a great place to stay.

Overall a good experience. The loft was spacious and had a good kitchen with utensils (albeit old cooker). Room decor is a little old and tired. Housekeeping every 3 days. The AC leaked but was effective. Easy to get to and had underground parking for our vehicle (large 4x4 that was fine getting in and out. Water park on site is a really useful incentive. Not too far to Banff town centre and free bus rides.

We loved our stay. Staff were incredibly friendly, and the rooms were fantastic.

Super friendly place for the kids but not childproof, while ours were OK, the cousins had to figure out ways to keep the kids off the stairs. Cannot wait to come back!

I absolutely loved staying here. I was on a solo trip, but the staff were incredibly welcoming and made my day:) The facilities were great; if you have kids (or you just like hydro slides and swimming, like me!) they have an indoor waterpark and spa which was perfect for the colder rainy days. The rooms were quite big and had everything you could want in them. The location was a wee bit out of the town centre, but this was compensated by having free bus rides for your entire stay (and this wouldn’t be a problem if you had a car as you also have dedicated parking spaces at the hotel).

Great place to stay. Although there seemed to be some maintenance issues, overall our experience was great. Everyone we encountered who worked there was wonderful. Seemed like a good price compared to other resorts and was fairly well-located.

This place needs a good cleaning and an update. The fans in the rooms were laden with dust bunnies and the sofas were extremely dirty. The whole place is dated. The damage deposit they place on your credit card stays a very long time and it seems they do not take it off for a while. When I called the property, they blame your bank, so be careful of sneaky charges from this place. You can find better places at Banff for the same money.

Worth the price. Though the units are outdated, the location, facilities like play zone, swimming pool, water slides n etc add more value to the trip.
Staff was so helpful and patient, even the team I spoke to during telephone reservation was so nice and provided various available options based on our needs.

The room was outdated and worn out in need of some serious renovation. The beds were uncomfortable and old. The lighting inside the room was dim. I tried turning on the nightstand lamp and discovered it didn’t even have an outlet nearby to plug it in. The hot water in the bathroom shower wasn’t working and the maintenance person was over an hour late and were incompetent in fixing the issue. We were without hot water to even shower. I physically went down to front desk to ask to speak with a manager and there wasn’t one and no contact #. I would recommend staying elsewhere. Save yourself the headache.

The playground was a lot of fun for the kids.
The waterslides were okay. But the pools themselves were gross. Looked like they haven't been cleaned it in a long time.
Didn't have much interaction with staff so cannot say much about the service.
Although the room was very spacious and fit 2 families. It was not clean. Our socks were black from walking on the carpets. The couches had crumbs on them. The dishwasher looks like it's never been cleaned. The air conditioners have tape to try to keep them together. The room smelt very musky. The showers barely looked like they were cleaned.
The room is very outdated which is totally fine but it's the fact the room was not cleaned and looks like the owners could care less about it. It's clear that they don't care about repeat customers (because of the way it's maintained) as they will sell out no matter what because this is a tourist area.
Small things that could easily be fixed just have tape over them.
For the price of staying here things should be cleaner and maintained better.
We were thankful they had a room big enough to accommodate 2 families but definitely will be looking elsewhere next time.

Location was excellent, close to bus stop which takes you into town and not worry about parking. The staff were super helpful. We enjoyed our stay here.

Everything was excellent.indoor and outdoor swimming pool with water slides and hot water, best play zone for kids. Amazing view and best thing fully equipped kitchen with all basic utensils and stuff.

It is the worst place I’ve ever been to. Rooms are extremelly worn out and untidy, pool is not working, hotub and water slide is barely OK. I can’t find one positive thing in my stay. Very dissapointed

We visited this place in the beginning of May to celebrate my son's 7th birthday. The location is perfect, away from the main town of Banff! The morning staff member greeted us in a friendly manner and she was very informative however the evening staff member looked somewhat unhappy on us asking questions. Our room was very comfortable and clean. We had a gorgeous view of the rockies from our balcony. The best part about this resort is the indoor playground and indoor water park. Super kid friendly, my kids didn't want to leave. My two suggestions to the hotel: please renovate your property. Some of the things in the room were old and chipped off. Second thing is your outdoor hot tub is beautifully made but not maintained, it's dirty and slimy on the feet at the base. Otherwise we had a great visit, would definitely stay again! Surely recommended.

The kids play area was very nice.

Outdoor hottub jets were broken/not working.
They have a game room but you have to pay to play pool.
No ice buckets for a bottle of wine, just plastic ice bags.

Would go again, but not my first choice for a banff hotel.
