Douglas Homes Showhome - Sunset Ridge

We currently are renting a Douglas Home in Sunset Ridge. Murray, from Douglas Homes is excellent. Murray went through the home and wrote down any items that needed to be addressed and had the qualified trades show up and complete the job. He follows-up with any concerns and will rectify issues that may come up for the landlord/tenant with regards to the new home and the warranty. He is very knowledgable, very helpful and answers all questions concerning the home. He goes well beyond his job when he visits to help. He’s very pleasant, trustworthy and dedicated. Douglas Homes is so fortunate to have this dedicated guy.

We recently purchased our first home through Douglas Homes and can't fault the service that we received. The sales managers, Nam and Fi, at Sunset Ridge were exceptional. Not only was this our first home, but we were also moving from Ontario which meant we were not around for the duration of the build. However, they made the transition of each stage seamless and sent regular photo updates which was a nice touch. We would also like to thank the crew who worked on our house and the team work from everyone as a whole. It's a beautiful neighbourhood, would highly recommend.

I suggest you stay AWAY from this builder. I would NEVER buy anything from them again.

I 100% regret buying from them.

Our home has dozens of deficiencies and defects throughout.

Save yourself the headache and walk away now.

I suggest not building with Douglas homes.
Our house wasn’t ready to be lived in and we still had to take the keys and on top of being lied to about timing of things being finished and more the sales reps are awful.
There are things they can’t control but building with Douglas homes has been an absolute nightmare

I have advocated for Douglas Homes for years; unfortunately their customer service, skill & workmanship have all been on the steady decline as of late.

Sales staff present flippant attitudes, poor communication skills and lack of respect for the Real Estate industry as a whole. It's as though they're doing the Client a favour by selling them a home. To make matters worse, neither the general sales mgr, nor the owner of the company return messages.

Our valued Clients took possession of their brand new Douglas Home in Sunset Ridge in late June 2023, only to discover an unacceptable amount of deficiencies present; quite simply, the home was not ready for their ownership.

Of the numerous deficiencies noted, the most troubling included: no front sidewalk, no front/side/back exterior stairs to the home, lack of final grading/loam, missing exterior trim paint, no mirrors in any of the 3 bathrooms, numerous missing/broken light bulbs, missing kitchen kick plate, numerous missing wall plates, defective interior paint and lack of final cleaning.

Having been a Calgary/Cochrane Realtor for the past 21 years, this was by far the most embarrassing possession that I have been a part of.

Time to pull up your socks Douglas; the effort that you are currently putting forth is not acceptable.

Such a wide variety of housing styles and types available, all at great value for money, well compared to the UK, which is where I'm from!

Douglas Homes has to be the most unorganized, useless builder there is out there. Beware, do not be fooled by their showhomes and their friendly sales guy in Waterford. This is borderline a ponzi scheme. Their site manager who is responsible for Waterford drives around in his truck all day never leaving the inside. He does not care about any outstanding work that needs to be done, he does not take any pride or responsibility of the work (mostly lack thereof) being done in Waterford. There are too many issues and outstanding items to list since we took possession of our home. They have a million excuses and delays for our outstanding items. Make sure to review your purchase agreement/contract thoroughly. There were additional charges for work that was never done and for items missing we had to bring to their attention. Had we not noticed, I'm 99% sure it would have been ignored. Our issues/complaints and odd contract charges are not unique to us. Talk to ANY neighbor in Waterford and they will give you a similar experience. If Douglas Homes seems too good to be true at first glance, that's because they are! At this stage of the process I can't in good conscience recommend anyone buy a Douglas Home based on our current/ongoing experience. They have sucked the fun and joy out of owning a new home and have added unecessary stress to our lives.they just don't seem to care at all. Like at all. Their tone is very much like they are doing you a favor or you should be grateful for the items they're working to fix and since everyone else is in the same boat "what's the big deal" sort of attitude. They seem to be annoyed if you try to hold them accountable. Their lack of accountability, lack of oversight (imagine due to site manager never getting out of his truck) and pride in workmanship starts to show after a few months of living in the home. You really notice how rushed the work was so they could sell the home and move on. The only small positive might be their warranty coordinator and warranty guys they send out to the home, who at times, have been helpful.
