It has been a year since I visited Dr. Michael and until my friends asked for recommendations for a Naturopath, I realized I hadn't posted my review from my personal experience. This was my first experience looking to fix my gut and acne issues through a holistic approach. I had 3 appointments with Dr Michael over the course of 2 months. He has one universal solution to every problem and that is to follow a very strict keto diet. Over the course of the month, My body started showing issues I never had before in addition to my existing problems. I developed hemorrhoids and when I told Dr. Michael about it, he said it was my body trying to rebalance itself and I should continue with it. Also when I told him about my concerns with increasing acne, he asked me if I had anything sweet and I said I had blueberries with whipped cream. And he says "Ahh! When i said you can have blue berries, I meant just a few, not a handful. You did not starve your body of sugar and that's what aggrvated the acne! ". Meanwhile he avoided addressing the hemorrhoids issue. I knew better by then to listen to my body and stop the keto diet. I ate a well balanced diet consisting of carbs, proteins, healthy fat, and all essential nutrients. I also worked on lowering my stress. Meanwhile, my body healed itself and I am so glad I went with my gut feeling than listen to a "cookie cutter" doctor.

I’ve struggled with gut issues all my life, but after following the diet Dr Schaplowsky recommended, all my symptoms improved. I’ve been able to heal my gut by switching to a very adaptable diet.

It’s been over a year now since our visit and I kept delaying even posting anything because I don’t really like to post bad reviews. The cost to see this man was $250. The biggest waste of money ever. And it seems from the reviews that he is limited to giving out diet programs alone when many people, especially those with chronic diseases need a much more complex and comprehensive approach to their care. His demeanor is off putting to say the least and his offerings for naturopathy seems to be extremely limited. He should really reconsider this field if he is going to continue to provide a cookie cutter approach. Most people come to naturopathy with the idea that they will be considered as a whole person and not just another body. It’s truly sad. There are good naturopaths out there…. Not sure he is on the list unless of course you don’t have Google and don’t know how to follow a ketogenic or paleo diet on your own.

Dr. Michael know his stuff! When my wife & I went to go see him, we were on a plant based diet thinking that we were doing some good for our health in the future. But after a couple years on this diet we were having some issues. At first I was a bit skeptical at first when I met him, but after the first session (which took 3 hours. Shows how much he cares. He answered all our questions with hard data) he recommended changing our diet. Within 2 weeks, we noticed a huge difference in our energy and overall health.
I would recommend him to anyone that is fed up going through the traditional way of seeing doctors and is looking for a real change.

If you are looking to start a Ketogenic diet this may be the place for you. Otherwise buyer beware. We saw Dr. Schaplowsky looking for support mainly with food sensitivities/intolerance for one of our children. I personally hoped to gain a better understanding and some control of what is causing GI upset as well as possibly being able to help with minor behavioural issues. I was hoping to work with Dr. Schaplowsky towards better health thinking that would look like figuring out intolerances and deficiencies. I was quite wrong. There were so many red flags at our consultation appointment it was almost difficult to keep track. From the moment we stepped into the office I felt like I was at a used car dealership. Dr. Schaplowsky was excited about his fix that will cure ALL of our problems (he actually stated that this will 100% "fix" everything). His suggestion was an extremely limiting Ketogenic diet. For life. He had no other suggestions except to take an omega supplement that is nearly impossible to find and so we should only buy it from him and he is currently out of stock. When we explained that a Ketogenic diet is not right for our family (Keto has some great applications but it is not right for us) he just talked about how hard it is for the parents to stay strict and how we can have our kids trade in their Halloween candy for a Keto bar, like candy is the biggest issue on a Keto diet smh, and how it will fix every single problem we have. He never physically looked at my child except to ask him if he has ever eaten a chicken nugget and if he likes ketchup. When my child told him he prefers mustard he blew him off and asked him if he likes pickles and then told us that based on those questions he has an unbalanced diet and he should go on Keto. He spent an hour trying to sell us this diet even when we said from the get go that it was not a viable option for our family. Then when we said we would talk with our Pediatrician about it he laughed and said our Pediatrician doesn't know anything about this, has not received training, and he knows better. It was quite a show. A terrible waste of our time and money.
