I would definitely recommend this team: Sterling and Trevor were knowledgeable, professional and very responsive. They did a terrific job building our new deck. I also appreciate that they work with high quality materials (Fiberon), offer different pricing options, transparent with the costs and stayed within agreed budget.

Sterling, Trevor and their team's work was professional and efficient. We are very pleased with our decks and privacy screens.
They were very flexible with their schedule and honest when they came across some hidden rotten wood that had to be repaired before the deck could be completed. I would recommend them anytime.

Our deck turned out super nice, we with went composite and a cedar privacy wall, it matches the house well. Went up quickly once the permits approved, even in the worst cold wind, they worked straight through it. Would recommend this company for anyone wanting a well built deck.

Big thanks to Edmonton decks, in particular Sterling and Trevor, we are very pleased with the quality of deck build and privacy screen, always professional and cleaned up after everyday. We changed the concept mid built and this was accommodated. I would recommend.

We were really impressed with the demolition crew and the building crew. Very professional, listened to our needs and left the place immaculate. Highly recommend this company. Our salesperson - Sterling really knew his stuff. Thanks we love our new deck.

Dealing with this company has been a complete nightmare! I contacted Edmonton Decks for an additional quote to replace an unsafe deck that was built in 2019. I even sent photos & 2 indep.deck inspections. My emails show that my appoint.was supposed to be with Sterling, but instead woman who works in the office was sent to do the site visit. She said she had never done one before. I hoped that because they had all the info I had fwd, they only needed a few minor details. She ended up calling the owner, Sterling because she couldn’t answer a lot of my questions. His details re: screw piles did not match what I got from the AB Building Code office. I spoke personally to one of the Building Code engineers. I found out that Sterling had never looked at any of the data I sent weeks before, so sending clerical staff was because of my situation. After going through with the site visit, I never received the quote or heard back from the company. I sent a follow up email to Sterling, but never got a response. This company’s actions towards me were unprofessional & disrespectful, which is why I wrote the review.

UPDATE:
After writing my review, I received a Ph: call from the owner. He was impolite / unprofessional; accusing me of just trying to hurt his business After hanging up on him, he proceeded to call me again, and when I didn’t answer, he left an abusive voice mail saying again that I obviously couldn’t find help and basically he was glad he had ignored me. I admit that I spoke forcefully and hung up; I shouldn’t be attacked for writing an honest review. It is not okay to call reviewers and harass them I believe that he was hoping I would take my review down. Instead of removing my review I have updated it. I am also responding to the inaccuracies in the owner’s response.

1st, I was completely open & DID let staff know about the situation; hence the sent photos and inspection reports I sent. It is not my fault if the staff did not inform him of these details. 2nd, it was Lyndie who came to my home, not a ‘Melinda’. Third, I was NOT rude to Lyndie. It wasn’t her fault that she was sent. We were both laughing when she called the owner, and I even helped her take the deck measurements.

I have no choice to try and recoup my money so that I can get a safe deck built; I cannot afford to pay out of pocket again to replace the deck; I have no choice to rebuild it. If Sterling did not want to replace my dangerous deck, then he could have simply notified me. It is not my fault that the deck is not code and is falling apart. It is normal to expect to receive a quote after a site visit; which is why I sent the follow up. I’ve received quotes from other companies that do not fear my situation; some have actually made litigious recommendations when they see how bad the deck was constructed. As I told Lyndie, my husband has Young Onset Alzheimer’s and had to go into a nursing home. I am now a single mom to 2 teens and have to sell the house, but the deck is too dangerous.

This company sent untrained staff to do the site visit, then had no intention of providing the quote. Instead of speaking to me professionally about any concerns, the company just left me waiting and then ignored my email. This behaviour is not appropriate; especially the response to my review. The owner said on the phone that he didn’t ignore my email; instead he blamed the woman who did my site visit. This statement was disingenuous. He chose not to send the quote and as the owner of the company, he is responsible for all actions.

My advise for anyone who is thinking about hiring a contractor. Do your research, learn the actual regulations / codes; especially for screw piles a.k. A. Helical piles. Just because the City of Edmonton doesn’t ask for specific documentation ie: a torque report like other municipalities require, doesn’t mean that things shouldn’t be done correctly. If I had done my research in 2019, I wouldn’t have to deal with this.

Highly recommended. Professional and Excellent workmanship performed by Sterling and his team through out the job from material selection, colour/design selection, city approval, deck installation, aluminium railing and glass installation. The deck turned out great and we are loving it. Thanks.

We hired Edmonton Decks to remove an older unpermitted lower and upper deck. We are very happy with the build and workmanship. Sterling worked with us in securing all of the necessary permits and inspections. Happy to say the build is complete with just the stairs to be installed once our sidewalks and landscaping is finished up. Highly recommend Sterling, Trevor and his team.

Excellent experience having Edmonton Decks remove and replace my old deck. Sterling kept me well informed of the project schedule. His team was highly skilled and completed the project quickly. I highly recommend using Edmonton Decks

Had a very good experience. The crew worked efficiently, and professionally and our deck looks wonderful! The price was very reasonable and included carrying away all the old decking which was a huge plus. I would highly recommend this company!

Even though the start of the fence project got delayed because of the rain, it was completed within the three days, as proposed. Austin kept in touch with me throughout the rescheduling and building process. Overall, we are pleased with the end result.

I am very pleased with my new deck. Removal of the old deck took less than a day, with no mess left behind. The new deck took a day & a half to complete and looks great. Trevor was excellent; great craftmanship and very professional. I would recommend Edmonton Decks to anyone looking to replace their existing deck or build a new one.

Great experience! Asked for a quote on a deck and Sterling gave me one right away. He came to my house and showed me samples of all the Fiberon composite materials he has to offer. Told him I did not want brown, then he managed to pitch the perfect 2 color combination of Fiberon Sanctuary Earl gray and Chai colors. He also explained all the ins and outs of deck building to me, and his passion for deck building and construction truly showed.

Screw piles were quickly put in and Scott and crew came head of schedule and worked hard and finished in a day in a half. I got an amazing final product! Sterling answers all questions that I had and provided excellent follow up service. Highly recommended!

We wanted a new deck and to add a new concrete pad where we had some weeds growing up between patio stones. Company was comparable to others in terms of price, but the deciding factor was that they could handle doing both the concrete and the deck without me having to coordinate the two groups. In the end this was a bad reason to choose the company.

The deck portion would have been about $21000, concrete was $4000. Work was delayed due to weather understandably, as we had rain for most of June and July. Finally the concrete got underway, and soon enough it became clear that the company would say something would happen on a specific day and then not show up for 1,2,3 days or more in some cases without explanation or a revised start time, unless you contacted them asking where people were.

Another delay was caused by the concrete not being ready to start the work on the planned day (which had been decided more than a week in advance), and having to wait another 2 weeks after demolishing the existing concrete before the new pad could be poured. No explanation or apology was given for this delay.

Honestly if they just would have been more proactive in telling me about delays, I would have had much less issues with the company, as I understand that delays happen in the construction industry. But to say you are going to show up on Monday, and then not show up until Wednesday or Thursday with no heads up, explanation, or apology was very frustrating. And it happened many times throughout the process.

Ultimately we had to fire Scott and the company when it became apparent the work would not be able to be done in the time frame we required. The concrete itself honestly turned out very well in the end, but I cannot make any comment on the quality of their deck construction as we never got to that point due to all the delays. Would not recommend this company to anyone based on poor communication.

We recently had a composite deck, pergola and fence installed by Edmonton Decks. Sterling was great with design ideas and Scott kept the project on track. Any issues / questions were dealt with professionally and in a timely fashion. We are extremely happy with the finished product, it has transformed our back yard into a private oasis that we will enjoy for years to come.

They came and built the deck ahead of schedule, with no inconvenience. I had the opportunity to describe what I wanted, and it came out exactly as I envisioned. I have received numerous compliments on the deck, it looks fabulous. I was very satisfied, so much so that I had a privacy wall added on a few weeks later, which also turned out great.

I was ready to sign the paperwork on a new deck only for Edmonton Decks to tell me that they missed one of my requirements and that they needed to increase the quote.

This was not a new requirement, it was in the specs nearly from the beginning.
Calling this a mistake and putting it on the inexperience of an employee is a bad excuse.
If the margin was so thin that they could not absorb the additional cost, I would strongly suggest they get out of this business.

If you are not a fan of detail and don’t mind possibly paying extra or not getting what you asked for, Edmonton Decks may still be the right contactor for you.

Cons
Poor quotes (incorrect prices, missing customer requirements)
Quotes lack any significant details
Company name not consistent across paperwork, website and email

Pros
Probably offers a good product (Fiberon)
Pleasant consultation

*Revised October 18th* Revised my original review, adding a star and making it known that Sterling went above and beyond to try to fix my bad experience.

5 Star Deck, 3 Star Service.

After reading the reviews on this page (they also have an S&P Construction page), I felt pretty confident in selecting this company. The experience started off really great with a phone estimate with Scott and then an in-person estimate with Sterling. Sterling was personable, knowledgeable and great to deal with. After getting the quote emailed to me and me requesting a few adjustments, I confirmed that I wanted to proceed. They said they would be in touch with me but hopefully it would get done at the end of September / early October. After not hearing from them 2.5 weeks later, and Edmonton getting snow and colder weather, I checked in to see if that timeline was still feasible. Scott got back to me and said that it had slowed them down but my job should happen soon. A few days later, I got a confirmation that it would happen that Thursday and that I didn't need to be home for this. Halfway through Thursday, I discovered that no one was at my house building said deck. I inquired with Scott as to what happened and got a very casual "our deck builder was delayed at his last deck build, but he says he will begin your deck tomorrow" (with no courtesy apology). The deck builder did show up the next day, but didn't even know what he was supposed to do (good thing that I was working from home that day!), and was laughing at the fact that I was told that my old railing could be re-used (according to him that's NEVER possible because it just splinters when you remove the screws). He went about his business and built a beautiful deck (Jeremy is GREAT at what he does and you can tell the passion he has for building beautiful projects).

This past Wednesday I got an email from Scott saying "Jeremy says he is done building your deck extension. Unfortunately, he was not able to reuse the railing. " accompanied with an invoice for more than I had agreed to pay! I let Scott know that I hadn't agreed to that amount and I would be paying the amount that I did agree to. I then got a "That's ok and we understand. If you do not want the new railing we will send one of our guys back to remove it. Our deck builder tried to reuse the railing but the wood split and splintered during the process. "

Is this for real? So, I told him to have his guy come back and remove the railing and replace it with my old railing that was taken away.

Sterling finally stepped in and brought a better reaction, response and customer service to the situation. He asked that I meet him in the middle on the extra cost which I agreed to do. Partly because I am a good person who didn't think Sterling should suffer for the bad experience I had with his employee and partly because I don't have space in my life for this rubbish.

Unfortunately, the damage had already been done and I was left feeling that I should have taken my business somewhere else.

I wish I had the experience that almost everyone else on here did, but sadly I did not. I hope you don't have the same experience I did. My referrals and future business will definitely be going elsewhere.

We had the pleasure of working with Sterling and his crew last year when they did a Fiberon composite deck with custom welded aluminum railing and a fence. Sterling was great to deal with and took extra time to explain the differences between vinyl and composite decking to us. We have zero experience with these types of products and he helped to guide us in making the best decision for us. We love our deck and couldn't be happier. I would strongly recommend using Sterling for your decking and fencing needs. Marissa & Mario
