It is impossible to reach them by phone, and the online form is available only to those who have already been able to reach them by phone earlier) Looks like a closed club of privileged people. Very smart)
This place is doing a darn good job considering how many people are requiring their services right now. It makes me sad to see the backlash they are getting when they are doing the best they can. Especially the people who can gladly spend money at the casino or on tattoos, yet DEMAND a food basket this instance. P.s. To the angry demanding posters - your previous reviews are visible to all of us and it's a shame you waste money in one place and expect free services YOU should be paying for in another.
This resource is a joke. They need more funding and they need to apply for more grants because we should be able to call in and get a hamper that day, not weeks later. They need more for the people who utilize them because it’s such a disappointment calling in and there being “nothing available in your area. ” Reach out to the government or something and advocate for more funding because this resource is needed but it’s severely lacking. Just look at the programs in the surrounding areas of Edmonton, Edmonton food bank is a literal joke compared to them.
*They should put as much effort into pushing the government TO FUND THEM as much as they do at arguing back on reviews. *
This is third time got food bank from here I never get meat no rice Third time nothing at all no bread no meat I have two kids they put some chocolate candy and vegetables and canes that’s all But the staff nice and polite people but food not good Also I have take two buses to get there I asked them many times to give me in my area keep saying ok but same never give my area
Got help recently, 3 bags potatoes, few cans veggies, moldy bread, buns and 2 cakes expired with cream. Was very disappointed in what is supposed to help. Last time received expired warm milk, expired bread products. Not sure if I want to try again. Nothing of use, may as well not bother. No photos as expired items were tossed when we got home.
Felt customer service can be made more personal.sign for wearing face mask is on a swingable door vs positioned in visible sight on the entry window.was advised of the pickup number and was given a shrugged shoulder as in not my problem when a polite suggestion of better placement of mask signage.i get better customer acknowledge at an empty walmart
Beyond Food at Edmontons Food Bank is a great resource for employment training, they offer a wide variety of courses and training. You can work on your resume there. The Food bank is a resource to get food hampers when in need and Beyond Food is additional resources and services provided by Edmontons Food Bank.
Pathetic excuse for a helping hand. Thanks so much for the rotten broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower, the milk expiring in 2 days, the diebetes/cancer dunkaroos, the stale expired bread, and few cans of cheap vegetable for 2 Adults. I would have had fresher food going to a restaurants dumpster! The time to get there and gas wasted could have been used elsewhere. This is the second time I've used it in 3 years, and was similar last time. Just shut down. This isnt helping, what a joke of an organization in a city this big. Absolutely pathetic. Yes I'm ungrateful, as this was just a slap in the face and waste of valuable resources. Where are the monetary donations going? You cant supply healthy fresh food? IM not asking for t-bone streaks and the best of the best, but dont get me to got there to pick up your rotten trash that belongs in a dumpster, cause thats where half of this box went. This organization needs to be investigated.
Thanks to all the tremendously proud volunteers who continue to box up expired garbage, say nothing about it, and post how great your experience was. Try eating expired food for 3 days and see what you think about it at that point, if you can't figure that out already.
I know first hand where the food comes from. I used to be responsible for it at a major grocery store. I inherited a pile of mold that made me sick everyday. They call it "shrink. "
I only went one time and that was during the pandemic. They were very friendly on the phone when I called, and gave me instructions as to what to do when I arrive. I wasn't there for 5 mins and the staff came out to the car with the food and I was leaving. Fast, efficient, and friendly folks there.
Always very busy, and employees and volunteers have a stressful job, yet they mostly have positive and friendly demeanors and are willing to go over and above their regular duties to help ppl in need. God bless em all!
I volunteered with a group at the food bank. There is a lot more food insecurity and food donations are down in the city.
On the day I volunteered it was extremely busy our small group of six was very busy.
Working in the warehouse it can get cold but I felt like I wore too many layers. We were lifting donated food, packing it in huge boxes and breaking down boxes and you get hot quickly.
They have lockers but I'd suggest bringing as little with you as possible when volunteering. Water and gloves are provided.
You will not receive direction to take a break so make sure you take a break as it can get hectic.
Volunteering here was a very rewarding experience during the Christmas season.
I’ve been trying for over two weeks to get through on the phone and cannot. As a first time user of this service, it is incredibly frustrating to not be able to access food security in a time if need.
This food banks staff are friendly and efficient. No limit as to how many times you pick up but they do encourage calling ahead for hampers. Very clean and tons of information/resources available here. I recommend if you need a Lil extra help with food.
Absolutely terrible what they give some people. Food products that have expired back in 2020, frozen cheese slices expired back in 2021, absolute garbage! Not expecting the best but also don't need food poisoning either. Too many people I've talked to that couldn't eat over half of what they gave. Why are they handing out this expired food to needy people?
We were in a group that volunteered here packing and sorting the actual staff were good a showing us what to do and in the end I had a great time and I felt good to help out
Called there at the start of the week asking for a hamper an emergency hamper they told me to call back a few days later just for them to tell later again! Haven't had food all week and now they're telling me to go another week, I'm unable to work because of a recent accident. Service with a smile and a knife in your side
Disappointing experience with the food bank today. Called to see if I could get some food, as I do not have any money left until my next payday. The woman was kind, but said the soonest she could get me a basket wasn't until the 28th of October, about 7 days from now. I'm not sure what I am going to do until then. Perhaps it is because I don't have a family or any children, but I left feeling as though I was not a priority to help. I have given to the food bank, and will continue to. But I was disappointed that the first time I've had to reach out for help, that the help isn't available.
I have utilized this food bank a few times. No judgement, times get tough. This food bank is welcoming and very courteous, it's encouraged that people call in a week before food is needed but sometimes it is not anticipated. Lots of veggies and wheat, a bit of sugar or treats included if the have. Service is usually quick but anticipate a bit of wait time.
So helpful and kind. Thank goodness for resources like this in our city. Amazing people. I can’t wait until I’m in a position to give back to them one day
Need I say anything else they always come through good enough to sustain someone for a week or 2. Depends on the person's overall size and level of hunger.
They we were super friendly when it came to picking up my hamper they offered me a bus ticket and even let me use one of their phones to get a ride the only problem I experienced was all of the fresh foods that they gave me (the meat had been frozen) expired within a few days and I couldn't get the chance to eat it due to its spoil?
I love the food bank and the volunteers. My experience that day was less than cordial. After answering covid questions and passing security the worker berated me for being there. I applied on line and was told to call, every time I called I was told my local depot had no openings and to call back. This had happened several months in a row. Online and phone wasn't working out. I felt I had no other options. No reason to publicly berate someone. Being there asking for food is hard enough.
