Ellerslie Gift & Garden

I had the pleasure of visiting Ellerslie Gift and Garden today in search of a houseplant as a gift. A wonderful woman, Bopenhena, assisted me on a selection. She was very patient, informative, and helpful. Before long I had picked (with her help) an appropriate plant and pot and they had it potted and wrapped for me. Everyone that I encountered, was pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend!

Getting a four star because the balsam for trees are way over priced! Went to another place 15 mins west and got the same type of tree and quality for $200 less. Besides the stark difference in price, the location is better than before, the staff are friendly and the ambiance is beautiful. Good place to window shop and get ideas.

I went in to purchase some grass seeds about a month ago, as my dogs had destroyed my lawn over the winter. I was helped by a wonderful lady by the name of Bopenhana, she was super friendly and helpful and gave me great advise! My lawn is looking amazing, thank you!

I have been to this newer location several times and have nothing but good things to say. Today in particular I went to buy a lemon tree and was helped by Bopenhana, a staff member, who went above and beyond to assist me. She was an absolute delight! A knowledgeable gardener and an even better human being. Interacting with Bopenhana was quite literally the highlight of my day. 11/10 would recommend.

This is a wonderful place. It is quite large and has an extensive variety of plants, seeds and gardening materials. Additionally, the staff are not only helpful but also quite friendly and provided useful advice, suggestions and reccomendations. I highly reccomend this place!

We visited the nursery for the first time and were blown away! Not only was there an amazing selection of plants and other items, the staff were exceptional. Both Patty and Bopahana took lots of time to answer our questions and numerous other staff checked in with is and helped aswell. We will absolutely be coming back!

I visited the store for the first time today to get my wife flowers for her birthday and was treated to world class service from the entire team and specifically Bopenahana. I was welcomed with open arms asked what I was looking for, shown different option to choose from, and given different explanations. On my way out the store manager was very friendly and Glenda was so kind and helped carry my flowers out. I walked into the store in a good mood but after the great service left over the moon. Thank you Ellerslie Gift and Garden. I highly recommend them and look out for Bopenahana or Glenda they are the best.

I love visiting this store! Beautiful selection of plants and fun gift items and the staff are SO GREAT. I needed to find a plant with some pretty specific requirements and Ted was so knowledgeable and patiently helped me find some great options. The rest of the team members that helped me were so great too.

One of my favorite places to visit! My last visit was on Valentines Day and I left feeling the love! The have an amazing florist section in store (HDK) and a sales associate, Bopelena, went above and beyond to help me discover the perfect gifts. These amazing folks know their stuff! They listened and gave wicked advice and recommendations!

Walking around I was talked to by every employee I walked by, they asked if I needed any help or just to chat about the plants I was looking at. Everyone was just so lovely. It was such a nice atmosphere to shop and I will definitely be back!

Just visited the garden centre. I bought two bonsai plants. Amazing help from the staff since I know nothing about bonsai. Great job.

A lot of variety for indoor plants, beautiful backyard decor available. The staff is super helpful and kind.

I got a few tropicals because they were so lovely to look at. The place was huge so there were a lot to choose from and it is alright to take your time here because the staff were very friendly and understanding. I love the rich colors of their available flowers. They were in full bloom and I love to get them for my mother, so I did. It was worth it!

Update: I have received a full refund and the staff are looking into why the “contact us” portion of their website isn’t working.

I purchased two glass lanterns there last week. I opened them immediately when I got home and found that one of the lanterns was already broken, a chunk of glass had broken off. I didn’t want the entire lantern to go to the landfill so I repaired it. I messaged Ellerslie gardens through their website to request a partial refund. They have not replied. I will not be shopping there again until this situation has been acknowledged.

Selection of plants tends to be more on the tropical side, with a wider selection of less-common plants that you wouldn't find at Home Depot. The staff are always knowledgeable and friendly, eager to help. I recently dealt with a lovely lady, (I think her name was Bopenhana (sp?) she was so friendly, and she reminded me of their point system, so I ended up using all my points for some really comfy camping chairs! Very happy!

Thanks for your help with picking ornamental grasses for our landscaping project at home.

The new location is quite big. They have variety of different plants ranges from herbs to pennials to trees. Friendly staff. Tons of parking spaces.

I would like to see more different specific peonies, different types of flowers and more herbs. I find that sherwood park locations offer way more varieties and better prices.

Great quality for reasonable prices. If you are a perennial gardener then you will enjoy their selection. They generally have new cultivars before most other greenhouses.

New location across the highway. Very spacious and well stocked. We picked up our Christmas tree today.

Really not a whole lot going on here yet plant wise, hopefully they improve with time, as I know they just moved, but selection was very limited

I forgot their name they were amazing people. I ordered 2 jasmine plants from them and the staff was very kind and patience with my questions. When I came in to pick up the plants, the kind lady, wanted to protect my plant from the cold and so she wrapped them perfectly. Will go there again not to mention the price was affordable and the store was super comfortable and warm

I love shopping at Ellerslie Gift and Garden. The new location is spacious and relaxing to be in. I love tropical plants and find the selection and health of the plants to be of superior quality. Personally, I have found their prices to be generally reasonable for the quality. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and it is nice to shop at a store that values customer service.

Patty and Elle are so lovely and sweet. Great customer service. Plants are always well taken care of.

Ellerslie Gift and garden lost its charm with the new location. Sure the selection is good, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. But it's now just another big box greenhouse. There's no more reason to shop here than anywhere else. Sure I'll still shop from time to time because it's close, but nothing sets it apart from the rest.

Overpriced plant selection, rude staff. Go to Salisbury greenhouse instead, far nicer staff and not as overpriced as this place.

Ellerslie Gift recently moved to a new location and wow! Its huge and the selection of plants, etc.is amazing! They have more plants there than anywhere else I've seen and more of the really interesting ones.some I've never seen before. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable too! Love this place!

Waaaaay too expensive. Would much rather go to Salibury Greenhouse - much friendlier staff, amazing offerings and selections on their plants for half the cost than this place.

I love plant scouting and purchasing from Ellerslie Gift and Garden! The staff are friendly and helpful. I was satisfied with my last few purchases, including house plants and outdoor flowers and veggies. I love the selection of succulents and tropical plants that this locations carries. And the prices on plant pots are reasonable, along with the acorn points and online sales deals that happen frequently.

About a year ago I bought a beautiful variegated pathos at Ellerslie. I have about 6 or 7 pothos plants in my house but this one for some reason kept wilting and wouldn’t look nice- always droopy even after a soak. It is generally a great and easy plant even for beginners so I decided to take a look at the roots. Unfortunately I realized that the plant is just two small cuttings from a larger plant with a few roots attached. I was definitely disappointed as none of my other greenhouse plants I have purchased seemed to be cuttings. If I am incorrect and some greenhouses do this, I apologize. But I found it a bit disheartening since Ellerslie’s prices are not the cheapest and I was trusting to get a healthy, beautiful, well established plant.
I went through here the other day and you can tell they are putting lots of effort into the new location. However I was hoping the feeling inside the greenhouse would have changed. When I go to Salisbury, the workers chat with you and are always laughing, but when I go to Ellerslie I always feel uncomfortable and looked down upon. Of course I know all the workers there work hard and do a great job, however it would be great for them to have some vibrant, smiling faces in the greenhouse. I am giving three stars because I have bought other plants from this greenhouse and love them! Unfortunately just had this one weird experience.

Update- Thank-you for reaching out. I definitely understand in moving there is a lot going on and things can be interpreted in a negative way. And thank-you for the info about the plants, I have decided to just keep my Pothos in a glass jar and it never wilts.

DONIA'S DONAIR, situated in this location has the best Shwarma in town. It is family owned business and you not only get the best food but also an ample portion for your price. It comes with a beautiful smile, friendly service and homely feeling. Shwarma dish, Wraps, Jalapeno poppers, Falafel, Salads, French Fries are super amazing. Their special garlic sauce which comes with most of their dishes could not be bought anywhere else. It is family friendly and has a huge inviting garden where a whole family can sit and enjoy their meals out in the open, overlooking greens and flowers in the midst of this busy city.

UNFORTUNATELY, DONIA'S DONAIR HAS NOW MOVED TO TORONTO AND CURRENTLY IS NOT OPRATING IN EDMONTON ANYMORE: (

I had a warranty issue with a tree that died last year I received zero customer service from Classic landscaping when I was directed to talk to them. I again spoke to Ted at Ellerslie gift and garden who was very helpful the whole time and he made sure I was well taken care of and happy when I left along with Carolyn and Patty. Hats off to all three of these wonderful people and their customer service! I will continue to support this business only because of these three people going above and beyond!

Great new location, big, bright, more selection. Just one concern is the lack of cashiers available. Almost 20 minutes in line to check out.

Yesterday was my first chance to visit the new location and I was extremely disappointed. The original location was amazing and quirky, the place to go to find something unusual as a gift or for your garden, not the usual big box store plant selection for sure. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, easy to find and above all helpful.

The new location however.
Where do I start? How about the parking lot that was in a terrible state of disrepair in serious need of resurfacing or the lack of signage to drive through the landscaping truck entrance to another parking lot for what I think was supposed to be the front entrance to the new garden center. Then there was the completely sterile industrial exterior and interior! There was nothing significant, eye catching or unusual. Everything was drab, metallic and grey. The annuals were both inside and outside and I was seriously confused where to find anything in the owners attempt to merchandise the plants as you might plant in a pot together as opposed to all the trailers in one spot vs the grasses for example which made it far easier to choose your favorite from amongst similar items. I never actually found out where the perennials were located or their unusual specimen plants (and I am not referring to the tropical house).

I never minded the slightly higher prices at Ellerslie but this year the pricing here was out of this world, way over and above similar garden centers I have already been to this year. Given my level of disappointment and frustration I was not willing to shell out that much extra cash this year for their offering of plant "basics".
I have always supported local greenhouses in and around Edmonton and am increasingly disappointed to see them sell out to commercialism. Holes move to the Enjoy Center was an epic disaster and I feel this move also has taken away the heart and soul of a business that was so vibrant and unique. Time will tell if the gardening community that used to love shopping at the original location will continue to shop here or abandon this "new and improved" location to those who do not realize the difference.

Before you purchase any indoor plants, make sure they are not sick. Because they cannot be returned even they were sick when you bought it. The plant I bought has so many little tiny spiders and went back checked all this plant they have in store have this issue. What they recommend is that you purchase a $20 spray they have and try to save the plant yourself. Wow. Lol. The experience at old location was good. Not sure what happened after they moved.

I love Ellerslie gift and garden. It feels like a home to me. I worked there like 6 years ago, and people there still recognize me. This nursery introduced me to my love of gardening. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help out. Jory is the nicest yard worker and I want to give him a shout out. I miss working there, every day.

Update: I miss the old yellow house. I visited the new location a few weekends ago. I know they are still in the move, but the new location felt disorganized and hectic. There was no charm or quirk to this new building. The greenhouse feels sterile and industrial. Setting has a lot to do with how enjoyable a shopping experience is, and this new building is not very welcoming. The plants spill into the parking lot, held back by a temporary fence. I had a hard time finding items, and was even confused with where to pay. I feel like the really charm of Ellerslie is gone. Best of luck to their new location, but it's not for me.

Great location - not far from their previous one. More plant selection and knowledgeable staff as usual.

A great example of bigger isn't always better. The old location with the yellow house across the way was charming with unique gifts and garden decor that you couldn't get anywhere elae. I looked forward every summer to going. The new location was a huge let down. Prices up, selection down, and no "gift"section to speak of. The staff earn an extra star however as they are always knowledgeable and welcoming. Will not be returning, can go elsewhere for my gardening needs, but it is sad to see that little yellow house empty across the road.

Was a good place to shop, But NOT any more. Price were marked way too high and some plants have infestations. No warranties at all. Actually I want to give 0 star if I could. Will never come again.

I am so sick of giving Ellerslie gift/ Classic a chance to be better every year.

I’ve purchased bulk product only to find much much cheaper pricing later on, ie Burnco, even buying bags at Home Depot is cheaper.

Each spring I go here first, it’s the closest landscape centre.

I go seeking a local, knowledgeable business, with quality product. The reality is different. No one says hello, no one offers assistance or advice and this is a weekday morning. I normally leave empty handed reason being I never received the advice I went to this store for in the first place.

Recommend to just go to Lowe’s, the plant selection does not require advice the bulk product is good price, hardscape product better price.

Ellerslie gift and Garden, Classic landscapes, what makes your business better than others? I’ve been coming the spring for a few years each time disappointed.

Great selection of plants! Everything from shrubs and fruit trees to succulents and cacti. Lots of perennials and lovely assortment of ceramic pots. I found a sarracenia I'm very pleased with.

My experience was just as Christianna described it two weeks ago. I spent 15 minutes hunting for the plants I wanted in the section of the new store that was identified as the 'annual' section. Finally I asked where to find herbs and was directed outdoors, where I also found most of the annuals I had been looking for, in a section that a large sign identified as the area for shrubs and perennials. Meanwhile, I was astounded when I reviewed my invoice and discovered that I had been charged $18 for six packs of fairly ordinary plants. Normally prices are posted clearly, but I don't recall seeing even one sign in the store. I know that retailers have had a hard time, and I was not going to write a negative review. But given that someone reported some of these issues two weeks ago, and no one bothered to address her concerns by putting up a sign saying "more annuals outside! " I will add my voice to hers. I am a long term customer of Ellerslie Gift and Garden but this year I found the experience of shopping there both frustrating and time-wasting. For this year I will be doing the rest of my garden shopping elsewhere. I will try again next year.

Great selection of pots with drainage holes, plus tons of healthy reasonably priced plants in all different sizes!

Lots of plants and helpful people. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the new location. You have become a year round destination for my family.

Update: We had a disappointing experience purchasing a Christmas tree from Ellerslie Gift & Garden, but the management team from Classic worked quickly to correct the situation.

Seems way more gift than garden. They sell tropical plants year round but don't sell required soils and soil amendments for tropical plants year round. Quite annoying.

Great staff. Hope they get above average wages. They should have given the young man an electric saw for trimming the end off the trees. Silly to use a cheap old hand saw to saw on frozen wood. Shortsighted of management or they don't care.
