My husband and I were told that the community league hall is no longer renting out the space and I sincerely hope it stays that way. We had a rental contract completed, it was fully paid and we were scheduled for two full days (Friday and Saturday). The person in charge of rentals changed and we received an e-mail about 6 months before our wedding to confirm our rental and requesting our contract info – we sent that in. The person in charge of rentals once again changed and about 1 month before our wedding I received an e-mail stating that our rental would be cancelled if I didn’t send in full payment within 1 week. I sent in proof of our contract (which stated we had the hall for two days) to demonstrate that everything was fully paid. I have no idea how they lost our rental information twice.

My sister-in-law ended up discussing with Shannon, the person in charge of hall rentals, about the fact that we had booked the hall for two days. Shannon was unwilling to let us have the full Friday, as stated in our contract, because they had double-booked that day. After she threatened my sister-in-law, saying that if she received anymore correspondence our rental would be cancelled, we conceded because we had booked other services for the wedding and couldn’t find a new hall to rent within a week. We were only allowed to access the hall at noon and the majority of the tables and chairs were filthy and broken. My mom spent 4 hours wiping them all down so they were no longer sticky.

The ice maker wasn’t working, Shannon attempted to find a repairman. She said if he could not fix the ice maker (which was included in the contract) she would reimburse us for the ice. My sister-in-law let her know via text that it was still not working after the repairman attempted to fix it and that my cousin had to go out and buy ice. Shannon replied with a frowny emoticon and didn’t offer any additional information. Two days after the event, I sent her an e-mail letting her know how much the ice was. No one responded. Shannon advised my sister-in-law three weeks after my e-mail was sent that I needed to save/provide the receipt. She didn’t let us know that. I texted her regarding this a few days after my sister-in-law because they had also not refunded my damage deposit. Shannon told me to resend the e-mail regarding the cost of the ice and to essentially stop texting her. She told me that I needed to only communicate directly with the hall.

I would have been fine with sticking to only corresponding with the hall, except no one replied over the three weeks, and I sent a multiple e-mails.

It took a month (October 24th) to receive my damage deposit, even though Shannon said it would be returned within the month (September) and another contact at the hall e-mailed me to confirm the e-mail address to send it to within a week of my wedding.

I suspect I will continue to be ignored about the cost of the ice and firmly believe that the only reason that I actually got my damage deposit back was because I kept bothering them. There are dozens of halls in the city, rent literally any other hall.
