My recommendation when shopping at this dump: 1. Check the expiry date on anything you buy. 2. Check to see if the item (s) are still good/ not rotten, as the "expiry date" may not mean much at this store 3. Don't buy too much, even if it looks good. Try first then buy more of satisfied. 4. Some stuff don't have a shelf price tag or a price tag. If you buy, double check at checkout (unless you're rich and don't care). 5. I'm not sure about the "return policy" or if one exists. Once I find out, I'll update the review.
I love this store. You'll find rarer items here that are specific to Mediterranean cuisine. Can I just mention the attractive prices? Prices are extremely good compared to other stores! The shelves are clean and produce is fresh. As a European, I always feel welcomed here.
The staff were super friendly and helped me find food for my sensitive stomach (was recovering from a stomach issue) even when the Muslim prayer chants were on during midday. Excellent prices on the fruit and the fruit was super fresh. My coworkers were impressed when I told them about my experience
2 locations in Castle downs neighbourhood and the reason why I fell in love with Edmonton. A few years ago. Christmas around 2018,2019.my grandchild was going through the banana stage. She couldn't get enough of them eating bananas morning, noon and night. Her mother could barely keep enough stocked and one Christmas morning we realized we'd run out. Grammy and Papa had none either so I'm driving around Christmas wondering where I was going to get bananas without paying ten bucks for a bunch. That's when I remembered the owners are not Christian and wouldn't observe the stat holiday. Sure enough there was a whole market supply of food not just bananas. And that's the day I fell in love with this city, its diversified cultures.
Store is busy and cluttered. Lots of international options that are not common in North America. Staff is friendly and helpful answering questions about different items. Parking is very narrow and busy as well.
Great Mediterranean selection of products. Things I haven't seen since I was a kid! So glad I finally got a chance to stop in. Thanks again for doing what you do!
I thought when I moved to Canada that I will not jve access to what I use to have back home but I was pleasantly shocked coming to this store. The only disappointment with all Mediterranean stores is they are all small stores that need and all products are shoved together. I wish they would have something bigger and nicer but beside the size and decor I do highly recommend it
I often go to this store to purchase produce as it is the most affordable by far! Apples are only 99 cents per pound! There is a lot of international items but also a very good selection of domestic goods. Selections of breads and deli items is impressive. Store is very crowded with shelves and you can't pass people in rows.
My favourite place for Mediterranean supplies and all the interesting products they have that you can't get in your average grocery store. Plus great prices!
It was the first time I purchased and tasted fresh dates (light-green or yellowish) before they darken and become ripe. There are more groceries both local and Mediterranean available in this store.
Adriana is a wonderful lady in the cosmetic section. She has good experience in makeup and perfumes. She guided me to the perfect products that fits with my skin. Thank you Adriana
Absolutely the worst experience. I have been shopping here for years but it seems that there is no more customer service. I was standing at the deli counter for over 10 minutes while two staff behind the counter were chatting. I looked directly at them and they didn’t even bother to serve me. I said excuse me can I get some help and nothing. It seems like because I don’t speak Arabic I don’t deserve service. Really disappointing and will be taking my business elsewhere.
This is a go to place for affordable veggies and fruits. They also carry a wide assortment of Mediterrean and Arabic foods. Not everything has a price mark, so it might be a guessing game. It is still better price than big chain stores.
Got a frozen kebab from here. It had fungus on it. I wonder how a frozen stuff could have fungus on it. The other products like fresh veg etc are good.
It’s the rite place to all your Mediterranean supply and the western supply too lots a variety and warm place very clean and every things you need in one place Keep going guys
Bought pita bread and some Zaatar here and came home to find out that the bread had mold. The zaatar also tasted weird, it was not fresh. Like a lot of the reviews here say, they are deceiving customers by selling expired food items. The meat from their deli is also of subpar quality and not fresh.
This is the smaller of their two markets along 113a st/Castledowns Rd. It's small and cramped with cheap produce BUT you better be using it in a couple of days - eg.the "on sale" peppers are always soft and withering and apples starting to soften and I really get the impression these are the hand me downs from the big store up the road. Nothing wrong with that. Their selections of Mediterranean sundries is great (olives!)
Prices are unbelievably low. The fruit and vegetables are incredible. The best lunch meats are found in the city. If you buy in bulk they will give you a deal.
First I am gonna talk about the beyond business side of Al Safadi. I lost $60 last winter, and I was sure that I dropped it inside Al Safadi’s supermarket. The owner and his son welcomed me into the back room and watched the surveillance for about 30 minutes until my interaction with the cashier was found. Despite the fact that the money wasn’t found, I truly appreciated their efforts in helping me to locate the money.
Now onto Al Safadi’s business side. I like the quality of food sold at the deli section. The zaatar manaqeesh and the spinach fatayer are too good and I buy them almost weekly. Also, the halloum cheese is very good.
Their produce is the cheapest in town, and the quality is great. I buy fruits and vegetables from there regularly.
Moreover, their Middle Eastern select products are on point, and the variety of choices is extremely satisfying. It is also worth mentioning that their choice of Arabic music is great and classy.
In contrast, there are few items that I don’t buy from Al Safadi like meat and Canadian made products due to them being cheaper at other places.
Overall, I like Al Safadi Supermarket, and I would strongly recommend it for your shopping needs. The place is nice and the employees are exemplary.
Veggies are great but dont alwaysclast a long time great mediteranian market. Olives are cheap and olive oil. Just watch yourcproduce. Use it up within few days
This is the smaller of the two Elsafdi markets and it shows in their dusty shelves and "day from wilting" produce. I suspect that the produce and products here are overstock from the bigger store. That's why the three stars. Service is mostly help yourself for a white guy like me as the staff are busy being friendly and chatting to customers in other languages. But the pita bread is cheap!
I recommend Elsafadi Mediterranean Supermarket, Edmonton, Alberta - Canada imported foods from all over the Middle East and Mediterranean Excellent service
All things Mediterranean. Love this place for its fresh food and good selection of fruits and vegetables. We always get the Tzatiki, Dolma (grape leaves) and Fatayar made fresh by Elsafadi. Fresh cheese and olives at the Deli bar are great. Unbelievable selection of different types of olive oil. Just a great middle eastern supermarket. It’s packed full so narrow isles, it’s clean and well lit. Staff is friendly and courteous.
Best place to shop for anything and everything very comfortable.excellent staff Very homely words cannot describe the customer service one receives from this place.
