Living in one of the house built by Excel, had a question about the brand of the deck railing they installed in my house. The staff was very quick to get back to me in a day, but she said Excel home don't keep the specifications of my house since it is 15 year old. I will avoid this builder in the future: (

BUYER BEWARE

every negative comment you read is SPOT ON.delays in replies, delays in fixes, more contractor visits than you can count.
The quality and attention to detail in their work is nowhere to be found.

All these replies from Excel are generic replies that don’t even address the issues at hand and make it seem like they care, but.they.dont.
Do yourself a favor and go with ANY other builder than Excel Homes.

We moved in Nov 2021 and flagged issues to Excel immediately and are still trying to work on a resolution.
I am asking for compensation/reduction in cost of our shower door replacement for the 500+ days delay in fixes, but they refuse as it’s not a "contractual obligation".
Their perspective of making it right is to do what they should have done from day 1. But they expect the customer to pay 1700$ out of pocket, when it should have been on the mortgage to begin with.context: (if you got this far) Our frameless shower door should have been a 10mm width from day one but was never offered and now it wobbles and shakes every time we use it. Excel will either replace it with a framed shower door (not what we asked for) or have us pay 1700$ out of pocket. I am leaving this review b.c Excel is finally addressing it (1.5 years later) and their customer service has been a nightmare. We are also waiting for our tiles to be replaced since day 1.

Again. DONT DO IT. DO NOT GO WITH EXCEL HOMES. Spend your HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS elsewhere

Edit: to answer Excel's reply.
LOL. What did I say about generic replies
You do not care about customer satisfaction.
I am waiting for your reply from Danielle Halverson. I replied to her email June 23,6: 11 pm.
Your suggestions are not satisfactory. I'm looking for compensation due to the 1.5 year negligence.
And I have asked Danielle about our tiles, you want me to send another email about that? Is that what I'm reading?
Your company must be joking.

I got a house with Excel, but their construction team doesn't care. I was supposed to get a medicine cabinet in my bathroom which wasn't installed. At the first and second walk through, they promised me that my medicine cabinet would be installed.

I took possession, and the tongue started to change that now it's impossible to install my medicine cabinet. The new suggestion is that they will refund me X dollars that I paid during house purchase.

I made my reply clear to excel, I borrowed X dollars to buy a medicine cabinet, and I will be paying that money back for 25 years with high interest. How would you give me back just the X amount on your own fault?

My house lost the value and beauty that I paid for, and they don't wanna pay
an equivalent of what I spent back to me but just what they want, I am still shocked to see a mega rich compy exploiting people like me! I asked them to escalate my case to someone who could help, but since then, they all stopped talking to me.

I offered to find someone to install medicine cabinet, but they just ignored me.

I bought a townhouse in 2019 and noted right away that the floor was damaged. Excel told me that it was because when they were installing the stove it fell on the floor. This was noted right away on my one month walk through. 4 years later, I am still having an on going issue. Every time they come to fix the floor they make more damage. This time they decided to change a larger area but the colour doesn't match. They told me that over time the matte finish will turn glossy to match. Now Brad Smith who is my customer care warranty is not answering me and it is really frustrating.

UPDATE: I have emailed several times and Danielle and Brad have both ignored my emails. It has been 3 weeks. I asked if someone could come in and see the floors. They make noise, and I am sorry matte floors DO NOT change to glossy. They are in worse shape then what they were 4 years ago. I am very unhappy with the lack of customer service and how it has been pulling teeth. I caution anyone purchasing from Excel.

As no one has responded to me I don't know what else to do, I have made a claim to home warranty.
15 May 2023 23:39
Very disappointed. We’ve been only at our newly built home by Excel Homes for more than 2 years but part of the sidings kept coming off every single year with a small wind blow.
Again this time the siding came off.
I e-mailed customer care it’s been almost a week no respond.
Not recommended.

Built my first home & moved in on Jan 22,2001 for $156000, in Saddleback Rd, NE Calgary. 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bath, single house with double attached garage, basement not developed. 1240sf.
The house was excellent! The staff was friendly, kind and helpful. I still remember the builder rep gave me a ride so that I could come to sign the paper.
This house is now my rental property.
Thank you!
04 March 2023 1:58
General quality of the house is good but be prepared to wait over a year for "seasonal items" like a garage. After sale responsiveness is poor (often non-existent) for remaining items and fixing deficiencies. Once you move in you are your own general contractor.
07 January 2023 18:54
It's over 7 months since my possession and a total catastrophe dealing with Excel team. My furnace is bad, I have 2 kids and you can't imagine how cold it is for us every time we run into this situation. Cyclone has been to my house more than 8 times and is still the same problem. Excel is not reliable, dependable, not committed to the letter of the law, greedy, and every other bad things. I have requested to talk to a manager, they have denied and blocked. Avoid excel homes totally!
03 January 2023 21:29
Their design is always better than the construction job itself. Excel homes needs to change most of the handyman especially those used in Livingston. I have only lived in a new built by Excel for 7 months and it's been one complaint after the other. The customer service is so slow to respond to you and the trade men are the absolute worst. From dry wall to roofing to furnace issues. It never ends. Our furnace has broken down several times now, very frustrating especially in this winter with 2 kids under 5 years of age. All efforts have been in vain. The Last straw was this weekend, they finally responded this morning and promised someone will be here at 9am, it's 9.27am already and no one has showed up yet.
I would not recommend them to anyone.
Their motto should be changed to making your home journey a nightmare

PUT OUR LAWN BACK EXCEL HOMES!

Our house is next to the house built by Excel home.
They started the construction way later than we moved to this our hose (like a year and half later)
We were ok even though they destroyed our beautiful side lawn in order to use trucks and crains, other things ran over all the time for building that house over the last two years.
During those time our side lawn is completely destroyed.
But one of the worker or manager whoever gave us a word that they're going to fix our lawn later (Didn't say when).
We trusted that word and waited for the over years!

And guess what, they came over with bunch of sod and applied our neighbor's front yard WITHOUT FIXING OURS!

My hubby and I were so frustrated not cause we had to wait for years them to fix it (which still didn't) also you guys didn't even gave us a notice when actually going to fix it.

We have talked to so so many contract workers related Excel but couldn't get any certain answer from them cause there is no manager listen to them either.

I think we were too generouse to let them do whatever they have done to our property (even let them use our power to charge their vehicles too) We dunno where to talk about this and make a call about it. Just so so frustrated about this situation.

My hubby went to the Excel homes few times to talk about this problem but they still hasn't done anything with our lawn.

This is completely not a joke what you guys are doing.
Whatever the system is you have there must have a person for this all responsibility to take care of!
There is literally no a person care about this problem

Why do we need to waste of our time to think about this problems that we didn't caused.why?

I'm so glad that we didn't choose Excel home for our builder but so unfortunate that we are next to the house!

We bought a house in Mahogany in December 2020.
We thanks Jason Clouston, a warranty specialist very much for his wonderful job. He worked diligently to address our concerns. He is professionalism and timeliness. He gave us a valuable advice regarding the landscaping and we avoided thousands of dollars in damages.

Thanks Jason again.

Thank you Excel Homes for your responsiveness in addressing an issue in Walden. Your Team has displayed an exemplary level of service.
10 June 2022 14:14
Excel home is the most insensitive and selfish builder I have ever encountered. They denied closing my property even after providing the cheque less than 12 hrs after the closing date, I pleaded with them, but Rob refused to grant me 24 hrs extension

And they had the guts to send me the exact property with all the finishing selected by me even though they claim in their new listing that it was designer chosen with an additional 29% increase in price in less than a month.

They are insensitive to their client's situation, and I regret working with this builder. This whole incident has affected me mentally and emotionally
25 April 2022 8:58
Sadly to say but no body is picking phone calls, answering messages or emails.
Called head office today in the morning and was told some one will call and talk with you but still waiting.
Very un Profesional team.

We built our house in 2014, and have had none stop issues. Most were small at the time and we could deal with it. Here are our 3 biggest and ON GOING issues.

Issue 1. But when we noticed our house would not heat past the first floor (we have three floors) they said it was normal. We fought for a long time, had several customer representatives out and they said it's normal for the house. Have us statements like" the thrid floor will get some heat, then sun will do the rest". " Keep all your vents closed and maybe it will heat". Told us the furance is the right size and everything was fine. But clearly it's not. We have had several HVAC people tell is our furance is defective and needs to be replaced. A 7yr old furnace is defective already? !

Issue 2. Constant attic ice leading to a soggy ceiling, ruined drywall, warped attic hatches, damaged lights, damaged molding, and who knows what else is happening in the attic. Yes I know chinooks can cause attic frost and some moisture. But the amount we have been getting is more than just a small amount. It rains from any possible opening or crack whenever it starts to warm up. We tried dealing with this after it happened the second year, and were brushed off saying our warranty is up and we don't deal with that. We fought and fought for someone to come out. And finally when we did the "new customer rep" only does fencing and decks. Pardon? Long story short he was useless and had no idea what he was doing or looking for. We tried to get someone else and they never called us back. We tried up until COVID and low and behold when someone was going to come out, lockdown.

Issue 3. Moisture in our basement. Front and back wall both bottom plates are turning black and are very soft. The concrete walls are all very well. Floor is constantly wet. Had the same fence and deck guy look at it and shrugged. Now there is a large crack that is raised that extends from one wall to the other. Frankly I don't know what to do about that. Excel needs to answer for this. I have 2 young kids and can't have them exposed to toxic mold.

ANHW doesn't care and won't do anything. Excel played around so much and avoid any questions for 7 years that we have major issues on our hands. Other folks have had issues in Copperfield, So I am not lone. These people are crooks. Don't care about customers. And don't get me started on the buying process. The lady we had in sales was awful.
19 March 2022 9:48
Worst post sales customer care. No follow up from construction manager Josip, knowing that an install job is delayed and you do not hear from him really after offering his name as point of contact. MIA Jason C after all concerns were raised. Lip service all throughout and no one in their leadership team dare reach out to properly escalate and resolve the issue. Had to exert much effort just to get things done accordingly and still be delayed for a lengthy amount of time, 6 months YTD. I had hoped that their associates were truly genuine and after a bunch of apologies and missed commitments, from that point on, I do not know how to believe in them moving forward. Maybe that is were they Excel the most.
21 February 2022 11:29
I built with Excel Homes in the community of Carrington and took possession on June 2020. I have had the worst experience with Excel Homes and will never recommend this poorly managed company to anyone. Their poor workmanship is unimaginable and a nightmare to live with, they have provided terrible customer service experience at all levels. More concerning is at times when they attempted to repair something they simply damaged other components while not being able to fix the initial issue. It's a very frustrating process given that buying a home is the biggest investment of people's lives. They have made the process of owning a new home nothing but stressful combined with lots of uncertainty and anxiety. Their slogan is "Simplifying your journey home" but that is completely false as with their poor workmanship, poor customer service and unwillingness to do thighs right from the beginning, unfortunately they have only complicated the whole process of buying a new home for me.

Some of the defects and deficiencies are but not limited to:
-Multiple cracks in the foundation resulting in water getting into the basement
-Water leak from the roof on the porch as the result of shingles not being installed properly
-Water leak from soffits creating puddles of water in the backyard, close to the foundation
-Roof shingles were not glued down properly and were loose in different spots causing them to flip and flap while being windy out, this caused a loud and scary banging noise inside the house (It took Excel several months to finally repair this issue and it took multiple visits from their different trades, and in the end I had to find which shingles were loose myself and point them out in order for this to finally get resolved) During this time it was challenging for my family and I to be able to get a goodnight sleep as the noise was very loud throughout the house
-House not being painted properly from the beginning (thin paint, stains and damaged walls) When they attempted to fix this and perform touch ups, they used the wrong paint causing unmatched paint on the walls, having to repaint the effected walls again on a different day
-LVP floors were deeply scratched in various spots as the result of their workers carelessly dragging the appliances on a new build home with brand new floors
-Various Ceiling Cracks
The full list is too long to post on here
I took possession on June 22,2020 and up until today's date (Jan 24,2022) there are still deficiencies and defects that require repairs

There have been many visits from their workers, staff and management to my home in order to try and take care of the many defects/issues, these countless and never ending visits have taken a toll on my personal and work life as I have been working from home since March 2020.

Excel's poor workmanship, inability to build right from the beginning and requiring multiple attempts to repair a defect/deficiency caused heavy foot traffic to my home during a global pandemic, endangering and jeopardizing health and wellbeing of my family and I.

I have allocated many hours of my personal and work life to having to chase their warranty team to book the required repairs, show proof/evidence of issues, and taking time off work to adhere to their workers coming back many times to try and perform the required repairs. To make things worse there have been days that the repairs were booked for a certain day and I took the day off work for it, but their workers simply did not show up and had to reschedule last minute.in addition to everything mentioned above their workers continuously drove their trucks and equipment all over my property (I own a corner lot) causing damages. Their workers lack of respect for the neighborhoods they work in and the people who live there was apparent from the way they kept throwing garbage all over, damaging property, while practicing foul behavior.

Their functional floor plan is the only thing I am happy with but I definitely can not recommend this poorly managed company based on my incredibly poor experience with them.
14 November 2021 6:12
Very very bad service, will not response and try to delay the matter till the warranty is over.
25 May 2021 0:55
Unprofessional and nonchalant attitude! The after sale services is horrible! They simply drop out of the radar after you close the deal to buy! No follow up on progress of building, no return calls or emails, you are simply left in limbo! Not a single call about why the promised delivery date isnt feasible (No delivery date in sight after 9 months). I guess they simply dont care about customer service excellence or blame ineffective communication on covid too!
21 May 2021 14:03
The worst next to putting bamboo splints under your own finger nails.their construction field unchief is a despicable / detestable individual. He will harm this once decent and good local Calgary residential construction company. Too bad.
13 May 2021 15:28
It was frustrating to build with covid but Ann from the Sunset Ridge office went over and above to help us almost all the way to possession. We are happy with the house we purchased and we had tons of help from Collin and JD as we built our home. Great value, great home.
26 April 2021 15:32
Living in their townhouse at Walden named Holland park for almost a year and I tell you it has made our lives hell.

- Poor craftsmanship
- Poor service
- Cheap subpar building materials
- Several issues since we moved in
- Used subpar contractors

Will never recommend excel homes to anybody
21 April 2021 17:22
Excel has been amazing to work with. The sales rep was personable and easy to work with. The site manager was great at explaining and communicating with us about our new build. The team that assists you with moving arrangements, settling in and the legal components have all been great to work with as well. We are very excited about our new Excel home!
14 March 2021 22:36
Hey Michelle you are so great, thanks for being there always around our area.
We really appreciate the place as you keep it clean.

It was great to meet you on my wal.
Thank you from Livingston!

After 6 months of looking at houses in Cochrane, Airdrie and Calgary, I finally decided on building a house in Cochrane. Cochrane has a number of great areas under development including Sunset Ridge, which I liked the best. I did also like Riversong a lot and spoke with every builder out there, as well as every builder in Sunset Ridge. The only issue with Sunset Ridge is that there are only a few builders. In my search of areas in Cochrane and speaking with every builder, looking at every floor plan in the under $500,000 range, I saw mostly good things. The quality of builders varied slightly, but since I wanted to be in Sunset Ridge, I had to decide between Excel Homes, Homes by Avi, Jayman and Douglas Homes. The final difference maker came down to how much house I could get for the value and customer service. Excel won both categories.

Excel seems to want customers more than the other builders from my experience. They have by far, the best Sales Manager of any builder I saw in Calgary, Airdrie and Cochrane - Ann Pierzchalski. She is the nicest, coolest and most customer focused Sales Manager I've ever seen in the Home Sales industry. She ended up being not only the winning Manager, but also a friend. If you are looking for the best Sales Experience, Ann is the best.

Fast forward to construction and eventually possession of the home. Since I wanted a quick possession, Excel had some tough challenges, especially since the build was to start in the early spring, right when the lock down started. We knew there were going to be some issues. Fortunately, this is when Excel's Customer Care / Warranty Manager Heather Bailey enters the picture. Since August 31 and right up to today, Heather has dealt with all (but one - waiting for ground to settle to see about this one) of the issues we have had. She has become a good friend and is one of the most dedicated and capable people I've ever met. Not to downplay sales and construction, but we all know it's once you take possession that the person in charge of after possession becomes the most important person. There were no questions she didn't answer, no issues she didn't deal with asap, etc.

Unfortunately, we had one issue that was a pain the *bleep*, but Heather not only dealt with it, but she reviewed house plans, the audit trail of who did what and in what order, but updated me almost daily on everything. No one wants to have an issue with their house, but knowing so many possible things could go wrong with so many trades and on a quick build, I knew there would be some.

Special notes of thanks go to Michael Benham and Jason Huber. These senior managers not only showed up to our house to investigate the issue, but also called me back. Can you believe that? Not only did they call me back, but they were focused on not only fixing the issue, but putting in fixes that improved the house beyond what it could have been.

There were a number of other people at Excel that I spoke with along the way that were very helpful, but special thanks to Ann, Heather, Michael and Jason.

Cheers.

Throughout the process of buying our home there was nobodies help we appreciated more than Ann Pierzchalski. From the very beginning she was patient, took the time to listen to what we really wanted, and made us feel very comfortable. When it came to selecting floor plans and upgrades, she gave very practical advice and we did not feel pressured into selecting anything that would not be right for us. She was always quick to address any questions or concerns we had, and made us feel like a priority. Ann is truly an asset to Excel's Sales team!
06 October 2020 3:57
I did not like them, lady name KATHY (careful from her) did not gave us proper information, hiding facts and figures, customer service not good, will never recommend to anybody
11 August 2020 18:13
They tell you and show you one thing on their “marketing papers” and after you purchase the house they do complete different things. They are border line frauds. They told us and snowed pictures of poured concrete but after we purchased the house they put some slabs for our pathways. After we spoke to them they told us that the marketing material that we are referring to is not biding and we could have have picked it from trash. Now we are facing with a problem where our front yard pathway is sinking near the stairs. Extremely poorly managed company, and no sense of treating their customer with respect.
28 May 2020 11:29
This is our first experience with excel and it has been amazing. Starting with Ann Pierzchalski, what an incredible person. She is professional and so friendly. From the very start she walked us through every detail and made suggestions to help us with all the decisions. We love our home, the quality is the best. Everything is perfect and so beautiful. Phil is another amazing guy, he did our home orientation and answered every question we had. Thank you Excel, amazing company, amazing people, amazing quality. Keep up the excellent work.
16 March 2020 23:36
My family and I recently moved to Calgary from Saskatchewan and we will be looking to purchase a house hopefully at the end of 2020. We did reviews on several home builders and Excel came out on top. Keep giving the best services Excel. We will be in touch with one of your sales agent before the end of 2020.

One of the first deals I ever wrote as a licensed REALTOR was with excel, they are nothing but world class in an industry that’s very competitive but often hard to navigate from the good to the great to the exceptional. The real estate partners team definitely recommends their work and service and are very comfortable recommending our clients to this builder whenever the opportunity arises for our buyers looking to purchase from a reputable and trustworthy new home builder.

Their Customer Care team has the worst responsiveness I have ever dealt with. You leave them multiple emails, phone calls, and online form submissions and they never get back to you.
21 January 2020 19:47
If I could give Lower stars I would. Siding on house is bowing out. Had faucet replaced 3x, kitchen floor boards are shifting. They have reinstalled the same sink faucet/hose and or assembly 3x. They Glued the bord which is now shifting more bords.my side of the house is still sticking out and we have only been living here 2.5 years. Do not recommend for my next house an Excel or if u could go with another builder. The girl at the building Office in heartland, Cochrane was extremely ruid! I honestly as a first time home buyer.horrible experience all the way around cant wait to move!
19 December 2019 14:51
All the staff we met and communicated with were great, friendly and answered all our questions. They really made sure we were taken care of.

The quality of workmanship was really good for the price we paid. We've only had a few issues with the house, mostly minor and Excel has already resolved one issue for us.

Their cleaners didn't do the best job before possession and we had to scrub the walls, counters, cabinets, etc due to the presence of drywall dust here or there.

Our only really complaint is the paint was put on really thin and has contributed to the walls being very easily damaged and marked up. This was not something we were aware of when buying it and while it wouldn't have deterred us from buying it, it's going to be an ongoing problem as we have a 5 year old boy and another child on the way.

Overall we're really happy with what we got and would buy another home from Excel.
04 September 2019 17:14
After leaving deposit for a build and signing papers and listing current house, things changed with salesperson. Not as we were promised. Sales person basically tore up our deposit. Weird experience. Now we are house hunting as our house sold. Wont be excel.
11 August 2019 0:51
Great Builder, their staff and sales team are excellent to deal with. Sold many houses to build and specs to my clients. Never had an issue with warranties and after services. I will keep selling their homes to my clients.
23 May 2019 17:56
We have just started the process of purchasing a home from Excel Homes and so far it has been a very wonderful experience. Doug has been very helpful with the selection process and everything else, so far, from the very beginning. I would recommend anyone to purchase from Excel Homes, whether for their first home or an upgrade and we are looking forward to the rest of the new home Building process. Thank you.
19 May 2019 7:09
I recently bought a house in airdrie and it was my first house. I had a terrible experience with excel homes. Appliances they installed had 1 year warranty and my dishwasher had a leakage from the bottom and due to water dripping my kitchen floor is all messed up all popped out. I am stuck with excel home.just stayed in this house for 8 months and they are not listening to us.when buying a house with excel homes make sure you don’t get stuck with them. At first they will smile and they will try to give you best deals but they ripping you off. Its been a month now they keep saying will send an email to this department or that but will never get any calls. Now I am totally stuck so please make sure before investing your money in the house try to take your time to go to the trusted builders. Im not recommending anyone to buy with excel homes.
02 May 2019 21:54
This is my second time building a new home with Excel homes and I am very excited again! The experience so far has been nothing but excellent. The credit especially goes to Doug with Excel Homes in Hillcrest he has been so patient and understanding of our family's needs and has been available at all times for any questions that I have. This has made the process so far very easy and comfortable. I look forward to the rest of the process to be just as smooth.
03 March 2019 6:44
We moved into our new home in December, 2017. We were unable to seal our driveway due to winter weather. By April when the snow finally melted the driveway was pitted all over. Excel refused to repair as it wasn't over 10% of the total driveway affected. All of the pitting pulled together into one area did not equal 10% of the total surface. It doesn't seem to matter that every section of the driveway has pitting. In addition to the pitting, there are several badly repaired patches, apparently caused when someone walked through the wet concrete. Other builders in the area took responsibility for sub par concrete work and had the driveways sandblasted and sealed. We now have a 1 year old home with a driveway that requires expensive repair work. Excel has been a challenge to work with. They are certainly willing to fix small items, paint chips, damaged lights, etc.but not anything major. If this is what Excel considers acceptable work, We are very concerned about the overall quality of our new home.

We absolutely love Excel homes! We had an exceptional experience building with Excel (Tarek) in Walden. The communication and information we received from start to finish was consistent every step of the way. We felt confident in choosing them to help us with the biggest financial decision of our lives to this point.

We always felt like we were in good hands, from the first walk through the Walden show home, to selecting a model and lot, going to their selections centre and choosing all of our options.

I have full confidence in continuing to recommend them to our friends and family.

Thank you to Tarek in Walden for such a great experience!

We decided to build with Excel Homes as we felt that we received more for our money with higher quality than many other builders due to the build green standards this company follows.
We found the sales, head office and construction teams to all be very professional and helpful. As with any new home build we ran into a few issues and with every issue Janet Bonter was amazing and helpful and solved our issues in a timely manner. We were very impressed with our construction supervisor Analah, who took the time to explain in detail every part of our home during our first walkthrough. Our sales lady Marika was fantastic in helping us pick our colors (we are very indecisive!) and choose our trim packages - she was honest about every option and realistic. We never once felt that she was trying to up-sell us or suggest options that she knew were out of our budget. She did an amazing job of helping us to find the best options we could within our budget.
We could really tell the exceptional quality this company strives for when we moved in and saw the finishings - the contractors they chose truly did an amazing job.
Excel homes went above and beyond to help us when our movers marked up our walls and railings as well and left us hanging without a fix - Excel offered to do the painting for us and they did an exceptional job. They were supportive and caring during the build process and have been equally supportive and caring since we moved in! Thank you, Excel Homes, we will be telling all of our friends and family what a great company you are!
29 August 2018 2:25
Excel Homes has been a nightmare to deal with. They lie to do whatever they can to get your money, and then deliver terrible quality product. When our possession date came, the house wasn't finished and ready. We gave them extra time to finish and when we moved in there were a LOT of deficiencies. They have been in our house every week for 8 months, over 40 visits to fix their errors. At this point they are fixing fixes of fixes. They fired their building manager, we had complained he was incompetent, and he was. Now we are dealing with trying to get everything fixed. They built the front of our house wrong, and have ripped it off to fix it, and have left it there with no eavestroughs or proper drainage, and painting not done. They built our ensuite toilet door into the structure of the shower, and had to move the door over so the condensation of the shower wouldn't wreck the door (literally cut the shower tile around the door frame, instead of installing the door in the correct spot). There was no second coat of paint, the island wobbles, the carpet lay is terrible and was literally cut in patches when we took possession. At this point, after 8 months of fixes, the painting looks like a patch quilt, the shower has chipped tiles, different colour grout, different colour caulking, dented walls, holes in the walls, the front of my house is still missing.
I have talked to the Excel customer support and have escalated my concerns to the VP of Sales Simon Kowalko, and they both agree that this is acceptable. They have offered a $1500 landscaping credit to make me feel better. But this credit wouln't cover 1/20th of the fixes we still require in our house. This experience has been a nightmare. The building managers can't seem to book an appointment or keep an appointment, as they are always late, don't show up, things take 4x as long as they tell me. I'm sick of their lies and deceit. Michelle Rogers who is the customer care manager is trying to sweep this under the rug, saying all this is normal and part of their "company mission to make things right", but neither of these people have been to our house and seen the damage that has been done. This is not making things right.
We paid for upgrades to a showhome quality house, and already; all our granite was replaced as every piece was chipped, the ensuite tub was chipped so they just filled the chips, they replaced the carpet on the stairs as it was laid like mosaic tile with actual pieces cut out, or not even attached, most of our cabinets were replaced due to chips, painters have been here over 10 times making patchy fixes as they refused to paint our whole house a second coat, our stove has scratches, our island wobbles and shakes whenever you take a step, when you walk down the stairs you will fall as they are too narrow, when you walk up the stairs you will get the carpet staples into your feet on every step, none of the closet doors close as the magnets dont work, etc etc etc THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
UPDATE: After they fixed the bathroom for the 4th time, and forced us to use the same contractor that made mistakes before, our shower still has grout melting out of it.

Excel homes in heartland were absolutely awesome to deal with. From the very beginning there staff were very helpful yet never pushy. Excel had the best floor plans from any of the builders we looked at in Cochrane. There staff were quick to answer any questions you had and we very knowledgeable. Throughout the building process they were very attentive in every step and would go so far as to take photos to keep you updated while the build was happening. There contractors did an amazing job building our home and were very thorough. We would highly recommend Excel jones in heartland to anyone.

The moment we walked into the show home office in Heartland, we were greeted with smiles and warm welcomes. We were introduced to everyone in the office and told about the details of the show homes and what Excel had to offer. After a brief introduction to the company and neighbourhood we were allowed to view both show homes without any sales person tagging along. When we finished our walk through we had some questions that were answered right away by the Excel team.
We learned about Excel's Built Green homes and the benefits it had for the home owner and environment.

Once we had made our decision to go ahead with Excel, we were so impressed with how transparent and responsive the sales team was. We felt like we were treated as members of the community and not just another sale. Every item was described and priced right in front of us. When we had set a budget, the Excel team helped us make additions that would not only add value to the house but would be practical for us as well. We never felt pressured to make unnecessary and costly upgrades; only ones that would serve us well.

After all of our selections were made, the sales process transitioned smoothly into the construction phase. We were regularly updated at every stage. Even though we were now working with different Excel members, the sales team was still readily available for our questions. They were even accommodating when we requested several changes after the fact, all were handled professionally and effectively. Ultimately, we really felt that they understood that we were making the biggest purchase of our life and needed the security of knowing things were still flexible to add (within a reasonable amount of time).

During the building process we had a check set meeting where we sat down with the site supervisor to discuss the plans and blueprints and also had two walk through's scheduled. One for the framing and another for cabinets. But we were never restricted from coming to the house whenever we wanted during their work hours to check on the progress-something that we took full advantage of and always enjoyed!

The most exciting part was of course possession day. During our possession appointment we were shown how to control everything in the house, how to deal with issues, to open and close every door, test every toilet and tap and then to go over any deficiencies. There were minor issues like paint touch ups and a couple of lights that had the frosting rubbed off in some parts, but overall nothing major! Excel acknowledged everything and the very next day we had calls for appointments to come fix things and touch up the paint.

You really can't beat that customer service.

If you are looking for a stress free house buying experience please give Excel Heartland a chance. They have a great sales team that we still go in to chat with from time to time, and who continue to look out for our best interests.

Highly recommended and would be more than happy to be a reference
