Fabricland

I will start off by saying I do not frequent this store as I am very limited in my knowledge on sewing so just stop on occasion to pick up something specific. Unfortunately I was disappointed by my trip there today. Several employees in the store and I was one of maybe two customers. Not once did anyone say hello or ask if I needed assistance, some walk right by and act as if you don’t exist, while others are standing around together chatting.

I get up to the till, nobody is in line at all, and I am asked to wait, which is fine. I am then told that the sale price will not be given to me for my items since I don’t have a fabric land membership which is $25. Despite the fact I find this disagreeable, I am ok with it, but had one single employee taken 20 seconds to talk to me about the sale going on I wouldn’t have wasted 20 minutes selecting items to purchase which at full price were absurdly more than what anyone should be paying for them. I decided to take my business elsewhere and I don’t foresee myself being back in the future.

I would recommend saving yourself the headache and find an alternative place to purchase, especially if you are not a frequent sewer and may require some assistance - you won’t get it here.

Fairly well stocked with assorted sewing notions. As for fabric, they have a large selection yet never seem to have what I'm looking for.

Nice store and a last bastion for do-it-yourselfers. They have a bargain fabric section and was actually there with my mother buying inexpensive cloth for curtains to shade her gazebo. She had been mad about losing shade because someone had cut down a tree. Then she wised up realizing that SHE was the culprit and it wasn't the old lady across the alley. The old tree had overgrown and was killing flowers and smaller shrubs so she had it cut down a couple of years ago. The fabric was good and the curtains worked out great leading to her cat Winston starting to regularly sleep in the shade too. The bargain section is a really good deal if you're not overly fussy about specific patterns. Lots of other sewing stuff there too and a huge variety of beautiful fabrics. The Sherwood Park Eco Center is just a few blocks further down the road so you can stop by next time you're hauling recyclables, old paint and appliances for disposal.

Had what I needed. Staff was very helpful or I would have gotten the wrong things for my clothing repair.

I am a very experienced seamstress and this is my local. I am in this store at least weekly, sometimes more. I don’t totally love it. Customer service is a mixed bag, and I’ve learned who to go to if I need help to find something.

I do not ask them any design questions, including how much fabric I would need for something. This is not a small privately owned fabric store by a person who knows their stuff. Most of the staff are there because it’s a job and that’s okay. I would suggest that you watch You Tube videos or read other tutorials if you are not following a pattern and are unsure. If it is your first time trying to do something and are winging it I would discourage that as you will end up frustrated and possibly overwhelmed.

I have seen novices being helped and I’ve seen them being left to their own devices. I have helped many people in the store if I have seen them being left to figure it out for themselves because I believe that knowing how to sew and make your own things is a valuable skill.

They have an okay selection. The store has been cleaned up and looks much better than it has in the past. However, even I get the ‘it’s somewhere over there’ comment when I ask for a specific thing and I pretty much know every inch of the place.

What I am very impressed with is staff’s ability to know what is on sale from month to month. They do have a reference binder but it is pretty good work to know to even look it up. I have only had to highlight a sale item once or twice in five years. Very impressive.

What I don’t like is that 99% of the staff do not write up the invoice well. They should be putting the code number for the type of fabric it is as it correlates to care instructions on the back of the invoice. Someone like me who has stacks of fabric can’t always remember what is what and so I do tend to pin the invoice onto the material when I store it at home to remember what the care instructions are. However this is very rare that the number is provided.

All in all the deals are good, especially if you are a member, and I know who to ask if I do need help.

Always friendly staff, usually find what I need, clean store. I'm happy we have this store in Sherwood Park!

Had a very bad experience here with a racist lady, my grandma came in to purchase cloth for ceremony purposes and the manager was very rude and ignoring us for 20 minutes as we waited and when she actually did come, she glared at my 7 year old daughter and angrily grabbed a sign out of her hands. We were going to purchase alot of cloth but I couldn’t stand being in the store with such disgusting behaviour from the manager.

Today I went in to get fabric to make a satin dress, and the entire time the staff made me feel like I didn't belong whatsoever. Every question I asked about where to find materials was either never properly answered, or answered in a condescending manner.

I felt especially frustrated when at the end, I asked the man cutting fabric if he felt like 3 yards was enough for my project, and described it in detail. I was given the response (word for word) "I don't know, but even if I did, I'm not allowed to tell you. " I'm just starting out at sewing, and I felt so confused after that response. I understand it's a difficult question at times, but the way he phrased it sounded almost.childish.

I have no clue what warranted any of it, the entire time I was polite and respectful. I read other reviews hinting at racism on behalf of the staff, and I wouldn't be suprised if that was the case. When my white mom who doesn't wear Hijab/Niqab shops here, she ususally doesnt have issues.

OMG. Amazing selection. Great prices with a membership. Excellent help. Allow plenty of time to explore this wonderland.

Needs more staff at tills! Sadly I walked out after spending 30 mins looking for my items, only to give up after 20 mins in line and had 4+ people still ahead of me

They have awesome Halloween fabric! Yay! I just wish it was priced more affordable. I did get some good deals on super cute skull and bat appliques!

I was looking fabric to finish the project that I've been working on and the manager at this location Teresa was So helpful. It is hard to find good customer service sometimes but Teresa has it nailed!

The front end staff are very abrupt and condescending. Need to have a more professional rapport with customers. I asked for a measuring tape to measure a cushion cover that was sitting at the front desk, and she literally told me buy one! As well, I get it that it is Easter Sunday and they are closed, but can they post it on the website, or even have an answering service that tells you they are closed! Drove all the way to the store to find out they are not open.

While the store has a wonderful selection, there is a noticeable difference in treatment if you are not white. The sales staff is curt and annoyed with me even though I was buying a membership! I hope that they one day realize being polite to Black customers is just as important as being polite to white customers

Got turned away today for the first time because I’m in that 1%that cannot wear a mask I do wear a shield however new store policy apparently, after being in the store a hundred times since masks were made mandatory. I won’t be back I’ll buy my fabric on line from now on very dissatisfied!

This one so nicest, clean and very organized fabric place. I love going there. My favorite place to shop

The fabricland on gateway after 51 ave, that place is gross and unorganized.

Yesterday a senior with a service dog who cannot mask, as is covered by the bi-law exemptions was treated rudely and turned away. I do not know if your staff is ignorant of the law or discriminates out of habit. Very disappointed by these actions.

Not helpful, looking for something specific and was given very vague answers. Left without fabric and no idea about when/if they'll get it. Disappointed.

Short lineup, staff managed social distancing well. While they do carry a wide selection, the specific pattern I was after was not in stock.

Masks are mandatory in this store. No problem except for the very rude woman enforcing this at the entrance. I left without purchasing anything and won't ever be back.

Never will I step foot here again. Forced customers to wear a mask? !? ! For fabric!? !? !
They dont offer a mask to a paying customer either.

Very new to the sewing world and like most people these days, I’m making masks for friends and family. The young lady who helped me (I wish I could remember her name!) was so sweet and very knowledgeable. She helped me pick the right fabrics and gave me advice and even actually checked the back for me for something specific!
My only disappointments: they did not have/do not carry individual pinking shears- I would have had to buy a pack of multiple scissors for $60 when I only need the shears, and the lady working the till was a little rude. Otherwise, I will be returning!

Was to your store a couple of weeks ago, love the location but the floor was an absolute disaster, had to walk over fabrics and displays the layout this time around was not very nice as there was no flow and felt very junky, I have been in other locations and they were ok but this location was a disaster at the time!

I always buy fabric from here whenever I'm doing a cosplay. It's always better making a mask or some gloves yourself than buying premade from online and waiting 2 weeks.

A nice selection and helpful staff however they need to refrain from discussing customers in front of other customers.

Staff was very friendly and knew exactly what I needed to get for a school project. Large variety of material. Only thing I did not like was I could not use my mom's customer card since their policy is to have card in hand

When I asked an employee if they had a certain print of fabric she told me she didn’t know and walked away. She didn’t even try to help me or suggest which part of the store to look if they had it.

Staff is knowledgeable, fabric is overpriced for the most part. Discount bargain wall is a all day ordeal to find anything looking for. But good selection and tidy otherwise

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you don't have a Fabricland membership card you might want to get one it will save you the very first time you use it.

Display shelves made of plywood are sticking out and therefore hit my leg on one and hurt myself.

I love this location; it's not so busy (most of the time), there is lots of selection, the fabric is well marked, and the store is clean and organized.

Helpful place to grab fabric. Ladies at the sherwood fabricland always have helpful suggestions if not sure what looking for.

Wide selection. Good prices if you're a member otherwise you need to hunt for deals. Sherwood park store is very nice.

Incredibly unfriendly staff, especially "Kelly"; was very condescending to me. If your workers can't treat customers properly maybe you should let them go. Don't work in customer service if you can't be welcoming to customers.
I'm a former Fabricland staff member at another location and let me tell you if I treated our customers the way you're treated at this location, you'd be looking for a new job.
If I could give -5 stars, I would.

Crystal went above and beyond!
Went in tonight with a friend of mine with 4 patterns. Completely overwhelmed with everything. What material. What color. What notions. EVERYTHING. Crystal not only pointed us in the right direction but walked us through the entire process. She gave some terrific suggestions she even turned her nose up at the odd suggestion I brought forward lol. Almost 2 hours later we were done! Crystal you went above and beyond to help us, Thank you!

Not friendly. Went in to ask questions about a sewing machine. Without asking how could they help, girl quickly said, we don't fix machines. I think we were bothering her asking questions about needle size ect. Too bad cause we were looking for fabric but no thanks.

This fabricland has a nice assortment of fabrics. I find that they have overpriced a lot of their quilting cottons compared to independent quilt stores but this is something controlled by their head office not the individual store.

The majority of their staff are friendly and helpful however I have found one of their staff to be less so. Most of their staff are happy to discuss your projects and offer suggestions if asked for them. The one staffer (I see she has also been mentioned by previous reviews as being unpleasant to interact with) has been known to disregard questions or roll their eyes when you try to interact with them. I had brushed it off as being an individual personality clash but I have noticed this with other shoppers.

If you are able to deal with the rest of their staff you should have a fairly pleasant experience
