Great service, friendly staff. I've bought fly tying materials here many times and never found they didn't have what I wanted.

I don't live in the South, so I rarely get in there. I can tell you this is the Cadillac of fly fishing shops. Easily has the most stock and variety in Calgary. Staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.

Here is the best fly tying materials shop in Calgary, you can get most everything you need. Also you could order some special materials, tools, and parts, they will help you get it.

We had a fantastic day on the Bow River with Ben as our guide. He worked hard to get us into great spots with big fish. Ben was easy going and gave us great advice to help improve our technique. Overall a phenomenal day on great water! Would highly recommend.

Had an awesome float trip with Blair, he worked hard on the oars to get me into the best positions to catch fish, look forward to the next trip, probably mid July, recommend fishtales every time

I have been a customer at this shop since they opened in the 1990s. Friendly and personalized service are their standard. Excellent guiding as well. Good Covid protocols in place. I highly recommend this merchant.

Very friendly and highly knowledgeable staff. You just know when you’re talking to someone equally passionate about the sport and committed to providing a great experience for the customer. Lots of fly selections at this local shop and a great inventory of other fly fishing gear and accessories. I liked the large space of the shop too, overall great atmosphere.

Hours are a bit thin, seems like everytime I go they are closed, but selection is great, staff is good as well. Website could be improved.

Have had 2 drift floats on The Bow. Excellent guiding from dedicated professionals. Safe (they have first aid training), encouraging, supremely familiar with all aspects of their waters. I won’t float with anyone else on this Blue Ribbon section of the Bow. Thank you Fish Tales!

I went in looking for a new reel with dual spools so I could switch between floating and sinking line, and left with a sinking leader. Instead of asking me for $200, they took less than $20 and I'm off fishing.

Visited 2 fly shops while in Calgary in August. This one is definitely the better one: great inventory and I had a great customer experience with Duncan. He was able to find my son Liam the right wading boots, took the time to offer good advice on gear, as well as lots of tips on fishing and camping throughout SouthWest AB. Easy going yet professional, not pushy, and definitely patient with us. Thank you for the great experience!

If there was a 6th Star it would be given. I was in town with my wife for vacation and Fish Tales Fly Shop was very welcoming and a great shop to visit. We booked a guided trip with Terry Johnson down the Bow and it turned out to be an incredible day. He was very positive with the annual snow melt starting on being able to get out on the water. It was my wife and I while she was just getting into fly fishing he was a great instructor as well. What took me a couple weeks to do to try and teach her took Terry less than an hour. She was casting dries and nymphing by lunch. I might add catching all the fish. When the fishing got slow Terry would start a conversation and enlighten us with all of his river knowledge about every bend, history of the river and some great random facts. He was able to put us on the fish and some nice sized bows as well as make the float as comfortable as possible. By the end of the float we just content on sitting and talking while floating down the beautiful Bow river. I highly recommend using these guys as a shop or guide service in the future.

Fish Tales is Calgary’s premier fly fishing outfitting store. They carry leading fishing brands like Islander and Simms. From rods and reels to clothing and flys, Fish Tales has everything you need for your day out on the river.

This place has service and experience second to none. Need a rod or reel repair they can help you figure it out. I had a seized reel once they helped me get apart and diagnose the problem. I have broken rods that had warranty and they helped send them in. Their fly material selection has greatly improved over the years. As the shop is gaining daily in popularity sometimes the more common stuff can run out but while you are their they have so much more to tempt the spending. My wife has bought me presents here. I have bought gifts for other. I have also booked fishing trips to Cuba through them and caught bonefish, tarpon, cudas and more.

Now I can be lazy. Who isn’t at times. I never learned how to get my backing on and loop to loop fly line and weighted tips etc. They will help you out without giving you any of those arrogant looks some other shops can give.

It seems their motto is helping with a smile and zero attitude. That can be a problem as I do spend more when treated nice.

My buddy is annoying the hell out of me right now. He is taking fly tying lessons though Fish Tales and is actually tying very well after not that many lessons. Most annoying is his bragging about all the flies he is tying and I have to admit he is doing a good job. I give most credit to the instructor.

Just purchased a new vise and some materials. Got in the Jeep and my wife says "why do we ever shop anywhere else? " Kind of says it all. Great place to get anything fly fishing. Knowledgeable staff that are always friendly.
