Used to ski @ Fortress MTN.in the 80's, beautiful scenery, lots of deep powder (snow), will be nice when the Resort reopens!

KPOW for the win! We had the best snow I've ever skied at fortress with Mick and Kate showing us the goods. Lunch was incredible! Amazing day all around!

I do not agree with Fortress Mountain hauling tanker trucks of water out of Kananaskis Country for canning by Rapid Ascent Brewery and corporate profit. See conservekananaskis.com for details

Love this place. Parts of the Liam Neeson film “Cold Pursuit” were filmed here. I was involved in equipment logistics. It was amazing.

Fortress mountain was opened in 1967 as Snowridge. The original lease granted to the ski resort pre-dates the provincial park, and Kananaskis Country by eleven years. The area enjoyed popularity throughout the years, but was closed 2004 by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. The area has been deteriorating since, and the lodge has been in a severe state of disrepair. However, in 2012 the mountain sort-of reopened with a cat skiing operation. The area has a full master plan, and is planning many more new lifts. The three chairlifts on Fortress remain standing, while the t-bars have been removed. Phase 1 of the master plan calls for reviving the Canadian Chair and Backside lift, while putting a high speed quad on farside, and a new quad replacing the t-bar. There would be a yurt style lodge at the base of the Canadian. Phase 2 sees High Speed Quads replacing both Canadian and Backside, as well as a potential new lift south of the Canadian, and west of the Backside. Phase 3 includes the opening of the new lodge, and demolition of the old one. I wish you guys all the best in your efforts to re-open the place.

Lived and worked on the hill as a liftee 30 years ago, nice to hear Fortress may be re-awakening!

Favorite place in the world. Weekly I dream that oneday Fortress Mountains lifts will once again be open.
