Fox Hotel & Suites

Beautiful place, rooms are nice and staff are great. Can't beat the underground hot pool either.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience in Banff but this hotel was the one big disappointment. For nearly $600+/night this was probably the worst value I’ve ever had at a hotel.

First the good:

- Good location, about a 15 min walk to downtown
- Friendly, helpful staff
- Nice courtyard and hot tub area

Nearly everything else was terrible.

We were give a room beyond the perimeter of the courtyard, so we looked out our window directly into a wall (see picture). It almost felt like a joke, and when I called to ask for literally any other room, they had none available even though we checked in right at 4: 00. If you’re going to put people in these ridiculous rooms, they need to be discounted or at least notified in advance. Can’t imagine anyone being happy to stay there.

The rooms are tiny, feels like 100sqft.and the bathroom doesn’t have a sink. The sink is located at the end of the main room by the bed. The bathtub was filthy and stained, the iron was broken and leaked water over my dress shirt, and the lighting is horrible. Thank God we left our toddler at home.

Oh, and good luck sleeping at night. The walls are paper thin and there is no AC! Like really, you just sit there and sweat the night away awake.

In short, we felt like we were staying in a small, dark, uncomfortable, very hot cell in a cave. I have no problem paying good money for a nice stay, and the fact that this experience cost us nearly $600 stings.

It's just ok. Decent place but not worth $600 a night. The pool would have been much better if they had adults only from like 9-11 pm. The multiple kids screaming ruins the mood.

Lovely little hotel within walking distance to town. The hot springs were awesome and great to relax after long days of hiking. And it was good to have Chili's on site. Rooms were on the smaller side, though, for a family of 4 and pricey without any additional add-ons. Also, the gym could use an upgrade. Parking in the garage was very tight.

This hotel has a great location and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the unit (loft style upper level). It was supposed to be a couples getaway but a last minute change of plans resulted in us bringing a wee one along. Thankfully the couch pulls out into a bed, so there was enough room for everyone.

The unit itself was a little dated and had some superficial damage to it. But it was still very comfortable to stay in. The beds, pillows and shower were very nice. For whatever reason our firestick wouldn't work with either of their tv's, which was a bit of a pain. But there were some channels for us to flip through.

There was no noise that we could hear from any of the adjacent units or the hallway (which was outdoors). Their open hot pool was very nice and well kept.

My first room was not air-conditioned. They switched me to a room that was then two stories and no toilet upstairs.

The hotel was in a good location, easy bus access/walking, garage parking, and served the purpose we needed.but.

We noticed immediately the bed was collapsed on one side. We were offered a different room, but it was smaller and the loveseat was DISGUSTING! The floor was stained and rusted shower. On top of that, when we came back from a day out, our door had been completely left open for who knows how long.so disrespectful
. So we kept the do not disturb on the door for the rest of the trip.

No AC is kind of a bummer with an ancient fan in the closet. The worst thing I'd say is no fridge. We would get up early to start the day and most food places would be closed. We couldn't purchase sandwiches or anything the night before to stash in the hotel. A fridge really would've helped us out.

The rooms were super small, with minimal amenities. No fridge, no a/c and just a small window that the crank was broken on. It was 30 degrees out and quite unbearable in the rooms. The pool change area was dirty with no towels or body wash in the shower (even though we went right after their listed cleaning hours). The elevator was painstakingly slow, which we relied on with a stroller.

The front desk tried to help with a slightly bigger room (which we would have to pay for) so we could fit our playpen, but they ended up just never calling us back. When we asked the cleaning staff to clean our room before noon because our baby was going to be going for a nap, they said they would but just never did.

For the price of the rooms ($500/night) at the time, I definitely expected some of these small amenities most hotels offer. Just overall not a great experience. Definitely won't be back and definitely wouldn't recommend.

Fantastic experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. They offered free local bus passes and underground parking included with your stay. Rooms were clean and well kept. Underground hot pool was a daily visit for us and was a highlight to the visit. The facility as a whole was quiet most of the time and allowed for relaxation when needed.

A hotel with an unusual structure that connects two buildings with a connecting corridor. It has a resort atmosphere.
There is a cave bath in the basement.
The room is small and you can hear the noise from the corridor.
There is no air conditioning and it is easy to get hot.
Almost no amenities.

Room is small. Bathroom is small. The room we had had no AC, no ventilation fan in the bathroom. Only a small window open to court yard for air circulation. Room smell odor.

We stayed in a suite for a few nights and everything was great. We loved the semi kitchen. Parking was tight but manageable.

So.the suite was nice. Spacious, well decorated, clean. But, I've stayed at a lot of $400/$500 plus a night places.and for the price, I would not stay here again.
It does clearly state that check in, isn't until 4pm. I get that. BUT, honestly, I have NEVER had to wait until the actual check-in time, EVER! Until now. (I would prefer giving 2.5 stars, but not an option)
I will say the staff did provide us with Public Transportation Tickets to use while we waited for the room. And, we much appreciated that.
The room did have issues.the heater (no
a/c, heat only) made a really loud noise every time it was shutting off, so we turned it off to sleep. The shower curtain was stained across the bottom. I'm the first to admit that my own shower curtain is too (LOL), but I don't pay $400+ a night at my house or have housekeeping. The bathtub faucet was very loose, making it hard to regulate the water temperature. Lastly, the toilet.handle was really hard to push, and then it would make a loud sound as if you broke the tank lid, and the bowl was stained. (Am I picky? No, I'm actually not. I'm just observant. And paying a lot to stay here)

The Hot Tub.pretty neat! Until 7 kids come jumping in. One about 3 years old holding his private part saying he needed to go to the bathroom, yet never left the hot tub area. I get it, I too have (now grown) children. Kids love the pool and tubs! That's great and expected. But, we waited until 9: 30pm to go thinking we were safe. 2 other couples did the same. We all ended up leaving. It would be nice to have an adult only designated time.
Location.wasn't terribly. But, it was one of the farthest from "down town".
To sum it up. "nice" place. Not worth the price, in my opinion. I would not stay there again.

We just got back. Staff was super friendly, helpful with suggestions etc. Room was clean. With the hot weather we found it kept us up at night due to no air conditioning. It could definitely use some updates, only 1 ice machine for everyone, located near the parking garage.nice having chillis right downstairs and that they have a dog friendly patio!

I unfortunately left an object behind. Management grabbed it and upon return it was said to disappear. Basically it was stolen. Do not stay here if you want ethical respectable management.

Regarding the Fox Hotel & Suites it was fairly conveniently located; however, it is certainly not located in the central area of downtown. The hotel did provide complimentary 3-day bus passes to get around town, which was nice. However, the rooms were rather small, with no refrigerator or microwave. My biggest issue with this hotel is that our room did not have air conditioning. It was muggy and very warm, especially in the evening while trying to go to sleep. The hotel did provide one small tower fan which was insufficient to keep us comfortable. Overall, I found the price of the hotel to be too expensive for the overall services and accommodations offered.

Cosy nice hotel. But the bathtub was clogged and our room 408 was next to a large ventilation unit which makes a large centrifugal noise 24 hrs. We could even feel the tremors on our pillows while trying to sleep.

Nice and comfortable stay. Front desk is polite and helpful. Prompt response by housekeeping group too.

The location of the hotel is great, but I was unfortunately very very disappointed with the rooms and overall service. We booked as a couple to enjoy a nice getaway and enjoy the grotto hot tub. The hot tub is great when it’s not full of kids. The room unfortunately was super loud and we had a family of yelling kids and adults staying somewhere close to us that interrupted most of our afternoon plus woke us up before 8am. The walls are paper thin and you could hear everything. I would therefore not recommend if you want to be in touch with nature, peace and quiet or just enjoy sleeping in. I mentioned it to the staff twice, first with no result (cause it was not within quiet hours, even though they were yelling next door) and second only upon checkout was I offered 10% compensation, but I definitely do not feel the room and experience was worth the expensive price I payed: (The standard room is small and has only a small window you can open at top for fresh air. I might as well have booked a room at the hostel for 200$ rather than the loud, small room here for almost 600$.

I loved the location of this hotel. I also came to appreciate that Chili's was inside if you were pressed for time. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they made the place! It is a nice place, and we had room to spread out as we were there for a week. The room was a bit dark, and the floor seemed a tad uneven (sloping), but other that.it was perfect for what we needed.a place to sleep after hiking all day.

The room was clean enough (aside from the heavily stained couch), though tired and dated. For over $400 a night, we were extremely disappointed. It was just far enough away from downtown to make walking everywhere not as fun (about 20-25 minute walk to downtown). If I could redo my choice, I would have paid more to stay closer to downtown or further out of town with a scenic view. There was absolutely no view of anything except public walkways from this hotel so that we never had our shades or windows fully open (not a fan of having a stranger one inch away from a window looking right into my bed). Also we were surprised by the hype of the grotto style hot tub, which really was the only reason we chose this place. It seemed a little grimey and germ-ridden to us so we didn't even get in (I'm skeptical of public hot tubs in general and only use them if REALLY clean). But I also admit that before we stayed here, we had been staying at luxury lakeside chateaus and cabins.so maybe if we had started the trip off here, we wouldn't have been viewing it through our tainted luxury lenses.

The rooms in the hotel were neat and clean. However, our room (404) was located next to a huge fan / extractor. Therefore there was a lot of noise in the room. It went fine with earplugs (not without). The hotel has a large parking garage under the hotel and is within walking distance of the center. We also received a bus pass if walking was too far. Unexpectedly, breakfast at Chilis was also included.
The hotel also has a spa.

Awesome little hotel in the heart of Banff. The hot spring feature is incredible, and the water is actually hot! Much more relaxing than a typical hot tub, and the ambience is next level. Pricey, but understandable due to its location and the amount of tourism in Banff. Would certainly book again when out of town guests come to see Canada!
