I rarely leave poor reviews, but this is insane. What kind of a coffee shop doesn’t have cream. The only thing that was available is half-and-half, whole milk or whipping cream. I’m lactose intolerant and I can’t drink cows milk. Cream is different and doesn’t cause my stomach to get upset. On top of that the black coffee I ended up drinking was cold.
My order isn’t complicated. A latte with no foam. I’ve been going to good earth since March, 3-5x/week, and they still don’t know how to make a latte with no foam (except that one lady, thank you and don’t read this review). They are supposed to know what they are doing. They are barista. That’s why I go to a second wave coffee shop and pay the price for it. They do not write on cups or have receipt, so they have to memorize the drinks and any personalization. Which is fine if it’s the way they want to do it, but at least do it right. Especially when it’s the only drink they have to make. So to have no foam on a drink: ⁃ Steam your milk, do not aerate it as much. ⁃ Use a spoon to block the foam in the pitcher ⁃ And here is how you make it. If by mistake there is foam in it, use the spoon to remove the top layer of foam and add more milk.
Also, if a latte is done right. It shouldn’t be burning hot through the cup and the sleeve. Milk is burned. The one star is only to be able to post my review. I will no longer go to this coffee shop.
My fav cafe in Calgary. Vegan and gluten free options, good coffee, friendly staff, indoor and outdoor seating and, most importantly, a cozy atmosphere. Join their rewards app to get your free coffee.
Used to like this place, not for the coffee it's always been sub par, but I just like hanging out there to write. But the service has gone WAAAY down, 20 minute wait for an iced Americano? I had to actually remind them to make it then Multiple people ahead of me got their orders. And it tasted like garbage. Not sure if I want to come back ever again.
All the sandwiches, breakfast included, contains mayo. Wasn't very happy. The cashier was friendly and the mango smoothie was bomb. Please offer no sauce options for sandwiches. Takes no time at all to squirt some mayo on before pressing
Good access for wheelchair users via the door on 11th street. You may need to ask someone to unlock the second door if your wheelchair is a bit wider. Lots of tables indoors to sit at, but unfortunately there were none outdoors for my companion to sit on. Perhaps it was the late time of year for that.
The coffee was good and so were the snacks! They also have lots of prepared meals for you to eat including vegetarian stews and soups, sandwiches, salads, and more.
Personally, I love the food at Good Earth more than the coffee (which is already amazing). I recommend this location as a relaxing spot that is great for people watching and catching up with an old friend. I highly recommend the muffins and americano.
My understanding is that this is the original Good Earth Coffeehouse. In any event it’s an iconic neighborhood coffee place that’s been here forever, and is very well run by Jasmine and her merry band. If you want a great cup of coffee with a nice snack and cheerful efficient service, there’s no better place. Love starting my day here with a still warm freshly baked muffin and a dark roast coffee. Relaxing atmosphere too if you choose to linger for a bit. What’s not to like.
I'm keeping a list of businesses like this who are non-essential and are choosing to remain open, and seat people business as usual during a global pandemic despite the warnings by municipal, provincial and federal governments. Remaining open under the guise of providing "food services" to the community is not truthful and it is not a decision that keeps the health and safety of Calgarians in mind. It also feels opportunistic in that it profits from the closure of other businesses who have gone ahead and done the right thing. You should do the right thing and close, everyone is watching right now and will remember this.
Always great coffee, great snacks and great service at this location. It's a shame parking is terrible in the area otherwise I'd come more often. Either way I often come here to meet friends as it's reliably good, thank you
This place has so much potential. The place is spacious and bright. But it was cold in many sense. The temperature was cold and I had to keep my coat on. Also, the atmosphere and vibe is cold. Service is not that great and food just ok. I might come back if things change and if I have to. I hope they do something to make the place better and the service more pleasant.
Server did not look at us when talking to us when my elderly mother could not hear him he did not repeat him self untill she asked him two more times what he finally repeated and did not say it any clearer for her I do not have a hearing problem and could not understand him. I asked for a double double he left me no room in my cup for cream or sugar and gave us to go cups with no reason even though we asked for China and he spent more time on his phone then serving people I would suggest if you want to got for coffee go to one of the others you will be happy you avoided this place.
Asked for a china cup gave me my tea in two paper cups - no explanation. Spoke so low and muttered that I had to ask him 3 times to repeat himself. No manners, no smile. Useless employee. I enjoy this cafe but I will leave if I have to be served by him.
Ordered chicken stew and a ham sandwich-both delicious. I drank decaf espresso coffee that was great too. It had been 15 years since being at this location and it was like old times when coming here. It is the original Good Earth and it has the best ambience just like old times.
Was a great experience and my first time there for a meeting with a colleague. Great friendly staff that helped me out with the mint tea. I'm definitely not a huge of spearmint and was hoping for peppermint but was unsure of the blend and it had no indications on the package. So when it ended up being spearmint and not peppermint the staff very graciously exchanged it for me with absolutely no hassle or attitude. Will definitely go back if in the neighborhood.
