Our daughter spent 5 days at the GP hospital in Labour & Delivery with a new baby. Our experience at the hospital was amazing. Each one of the Nurses, the Doctors and all the staff were so kind, caring, and calming. Dr Barreth's eventual C-section and delivery were excellent. The Patients room with a washroom was pristine and very well laid out with everything you could imagine. I am very grateful for this new beautiful facility and the excellent staff. Thank you so very much, each one of you made this such a positive experience.

Doctors are negligent and not there to help. Edited to add, specifically avoid the pysch ward if you can. The care we received here for my elderly dad by his he doctor was atrocious. Don’t waste your time with them.
11 October 2023 2:23
The triage nurse is unprofessional gossiping/making fun about patients with other nurses. So disrespectful there is sick people that come in and already feel bad about coming in. This why our governments health system is failing Canadians no privacy or respect.
29 August 2023 11:22
Are they ever going to make the hospital accessible to pedestrians or is it just that they don't care about people who don't drive?
25 August 2023 10:23
If i could give this facility negative stars i would they will dis miss
You and let doctors that ARE NOT QUALIFIED to cut you open or exercise procedures they aren’t qualified for! They cost a family member her baby because her body was in a stalled labour and instead of inducing her the nurse sent her home instead of calling a doc and disclosing that the baby was having dcells!

Go somewhere else. This hospital isn’t the place to get medical attention.:/ I came in at 6am and have been here for 7 1/2 hours. No water, no Tylenol, no doctor.
Correction 9 1/2 hours, asked where I was in the que and she said the doctor must’ve forgot about me and that I had been there the longest. She called the lab to get blood work so I thought we were on the right track but I heard nothing from them after that. Actually I heard “today was so good! So easy” I was still not offered pain killers or water. I hadn’t eaten all day. I walked out this ER experience was a flipping joke. I walked out crying because I was so disappointed and in so much pain

My 87 year old mother fell at the seniors home and has been waiting for over 8 hours in emerge already and was taken in by ambulance. This is totally not acceptable
19 May 2023 3:18
Very rude customer service. The lady hung up on me twice and did not pick up the third time
11 May 2023 11:15
Absolutely disgracefully incompetent doctors, available only after ridiculous wait times. This giant, wasteful under utilization of taxpayer funds is not one iota better than QE2. Same garbage care, same terrible doctors, same terrible lack of attention towards patient care.

Only rated one star due to rating system being unable to accept negative reviews.
21 April 2023 10:43
The nurses on unit 12 are careless to situations that need immediate
attention for patients. I am very disappointed in their slow response to a situation that needed their immediate attention. They seem to stand around talking instead of dealing with the situation at hand. We need better health care 'professionals ' that can be caring and attentive instead of being slow to respond to patients

Currently in the ER, where the doctor has completely ignored the reason i came in, and has now made up symptoms ive not even discussed or complained of having. I have also declined the ct and ecg as i came in with an issue to my ribs.and now im being treated poorly by some of his "staff" as i didnt complain about my head hurting just my ribs, and declined the tests. I had to give you one star but id like you give negative stars.this is ridiculous. As well the room ive been told to wait in.has someone elses vomit on the bed. GROSS!
05 April 2023 2:04
I had an overnight stay at the hospital though it was short the staff were excellent and compassionate.
It’s a very big hospital and easy to get loss. But someone always helpful. I give it a 5 star
27 March 2023 8:41
This hospital is ridiculous. Waited in the hospital for 6+ hours and did not get any help. Not sure what they actually do other than dismiss people.
17 January 2023 10:55
Your either dead or or the sickness has passed before you can see a doctor at this "brand new" hospital. You would swear that the people who built it, run it too.
09 January 2023 15:17
Words cannot describe how frustrating and sad our Canadian health care system has become….

I know there are good people out there that actually do genuinely care about other peoples well being, thank you for being compassionate and professional and taking your job seriously! Honestly mean this! Please keep up the good work️

Shame on the ones that don’t…. That float to collect a paycheck, that push medications so their pockets get filled, slate patients for hour visits when the appointment only takes minutes to complete just so they can either sit with their thumb up their @ss or so they can charge more! Shame to those that have no compassion and empathy for the sick, and who treat their patients worse than farm animals…. I think Canada needs to take a closer look into health care workers from secretary positions all the way to the top……. This isn’t how I remember hospitals to be

You think they could get a number system for this massive brand new hospital! I've gone in twice and both times ladies butted in front of me! Extremely rude both times have come to the hospital I could barely move and of course if you don't move quick enough you lose your spot! So right there the hospital has a zero rating this last time I was in the hospital I couldn't believe how rude the staff was to one of the patients that was seeing some things on the ceiling! The nurses seem to ignore the gentleman that was seeing these things after I left my area I looked around the corner and seen one of those bubbles on the roof that you can see around the corner I'm pretty sure that's all the gentleman was seeing on the staff couldn't take two seconds and look over their shoulders to see what this gentleman was looking at I kept hearing and yelling why can't you even take a look!? The staff kept going yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes but not really paying attention to the gentleman which agitated him quite a bit! Mental illness is an extremely scary thing and I don't really think the staff was qualified to be even be in there
14 December 2022 8:29
Don’t even bother with this hospital, every-time we go here and visit the emergency we end up facing 14+ hours of waiting before seen by a doctor, even when bleeding profusely. Nurses don’t care because they are so underfunded that sometimes there isn’t even a doctor there.
This is an embarrassment to everyone who calls Grande prairie home and anyone who takes pride in the Hospital is a joke. The health and wellness of our friends and families should be a Priority!
Reach out to your local MP to voice your concerns.
Maybe next time you visit this hospital you won’t have to wait over 14 hours and be treated like you’re health isn’t important.
13 December 2022 6:36
If you have to go to ER, I highly recommend finding a different hospital. Gp hospital is by far the WORST hospital I've ever been in. Beautiful brand new building but what's the point if you don't have the staff to properly care for the patients. Ridiculous wait times and so chaoticly setup for triage. What happened to getting numbers and being called up? Not wait in line like the grocery store and figure out where your place is. Absolutely flabbergasted at the treatment of patients here compared to the many hospitals I've had to visit over the years. So disappointed that this is grande prairies new hospital

Waiting on an emergency transfer to Edmonton for the last 8 hours. Key word, "emergency"
20 November 2022 20:21
I went in with an emergency protocol for my son that states my son is to be seen immediately upon arrival, and Noone clearly stated what I was supposed to do with it. The patient registration lady told me I had to sit and wait to go into triage, so I called the hospital the order was given by, and they gave me instructions on how to get him seen sooner. However they redeemed themselves once we got past emergency and we’re on the road to being admitted, the nurses and the doctors were pretty good. The only thing I can complain about after we got him admitted was that the doctor ignored a smaller problem I had told him about, but one of the nurses pushed to make sure the other doctor heard my concerns and it was fixed before we left. We have a beautiful new hospital now all we need is more staff so they aren’t feeling so overwhelmed.
06 November 2022 4:46
This place needs to get organized. The wait time is a mess when you have wait 4-5 hours for a 30 minute conversation with the doctor it’s insane. I had nice staff but the wait time and organizing is insane. Not worth it.
23 October 2022 15:00
My daughter had a biking incident as every 8 year old out there, the nurses and drs on shift were absolutely amazing at not only assuring her she was in the best hands possible (first time she’s ever gone to a hospital.) From triage to fast track we were in and out and my daughter left feeling like a warrior!
07 October 2022 23:00
Waited 12 hours in the ER for one prescription and a half hour conversation with a crisis response nurse.hospital is an absolute joke
25 September 2022 0:27
It's a nice modern facility. All the staff seem to be doing their very best to provide good care. A nurse even brought me sandwiches when I was accompanying my son in emergency because I didn't have a vehicle to go buy myself some food.
All those giving bad reviews have either never seen a bad hospital or they were having a miserable day.
12 September 2022 16:59
On Christmas eve 2021, my dad walked himself into the ER with the help of my mother. He had been battling an illness for months despite the pathetic Alberta Health typical response of "Take these pills and go home". The ER was empty, and there was ample staff and bed space available. Despite this, they couldnt wait to discharge him when basic oxygen perked his spirits. No offer to keep him a day for observation, or actually attempt to heal him. They didnt have a chance to discharge him though, as he died in the ER.
I didnt even get a cause of death for over 2 weeks, and when making funeral arrangements the hospital couldnt even tell me where his body was.
The Grande Prairie hospital has always been known as a place you dont want to end up, and this new building is proof that you can dump millions of dollars into something without ever making it better.
29 August 2022 20:32
7 hours to be seen by a doctor and fitted with a random air boot. Wasn’t asked if I needed pain meds until 5 hours into my wait with a broken extremity, patients arriving after getting treated before others who were waiting for hours with much more severe injuries as the doctor was picking and choosing out of the fast-track with no que or concern for severity of injury (small cuts on fingers and ear flushing). No patient privacy, constantly talking about others health issues in plain view of cleaning staff, other waiting patients, security staff and myself. Personally heard multiple very private health problems about a young girl receiving care as EMS and the Nurse stood by and commented as she was wailing in pain from her treatment behind closed doors. This place should be investigated by AHS as the staff isn’t competent in providing proper care in the E. R. Being understaffed and the total lack of professionalism. Read the reviews they speak for themselves, stay away at all costs.
28 August 2022 20:57
Terrible service, stay home is better way than you come here. Save your time and don't come here please. I never seen that before. Worst Hospital ever in mylife. F. Off
31 July 2022 21:26
Saved my wifes life several times. The staff is exceptional under very trying circumstances. I am forever in their debt.
31 July 2022 16:02
I get there are staffing issues due to pandemic or otherwise. However, arriving on Saturday night at 11pm with only two other people in the waiting room. Brought a 23 day old baby in to get looked at due to having excess flem and was choking on it. He had just had a procedure done on Thursday to fix his tongue and lip problems. I'm absolutely blown away by their lack of triage. The waiting room started to fill up with people. NOT ONCE DID THIS BABY SEE A DOCTOR. Many other patients went before this baby.and TONS WALKED OUT. I wanted to mention, it's a bit disheartening to see patient registration texting on their phones while on duty. Nice hospital! Terrible Healthcare services.
24 July 2022 22:37
This is by far still one of the worst hospitals still in Alberta. The first hospital was better than this new one, I haven’t even been past the waiting room but I have already had a terrible experience. My little brother is terrified of needles & blood especially seeing other peoples, we are sitting in the waiting area & nurses just come over & take the blood of the guy right beside us who is less than a few inches away. I was absolutely shocked that instead of doing what the old hospital did & every other hospital does by taking the patients to another small room or blocked area to take the blood of the person. Instead now they just take it in front of everyone without considering that kids or older people might freak them out of make them nervous or cause panic attacks or make little kids not wanna go to the hospital. I am deeply disappointed in the new hospital & looks like I will have to drive down to Edmonton because my little brother & I refuse to go to this hospital.
13 July 2022 10:53
Hubby went only to get a prescription since we don't have a family doctor. As he was in seeing the doctor, i waited for him in the waiting room. The security staff harrassed me with ignorance. Why? A stranger struck up a conversation with me. I had a tickle in my throat so I had a cough. Security said to me he will have me escorted off the property due to sociliting. What was the suppose sociliting.covid because of a slight tickle cough.
Security staff are ignorant and rude. Might be a new hospital, but still the same ignorance.
Worse place ever.
12 July 2022 21:35
The hospital has a few hiccups to get fixed, but I found the staff and nurses doing their job the best they could with what they have. The hospital is seriously understaffed in every department. I blame the government for the problems here in Grande Prairie and in all medical facilities in Alberta. Be safe all you nurses and doctors keep up the good fight.
06 July 2022 1:10
Unfortunately have to give one star to review, came in by ambulance with major gallbladder attack, sat in waiting room for 12 hours on morphine, they took X-rays of my chest and blood work, finally saw doctor he said tests are good you’re fine to go, fast forward 1.5 weeks I’m in another ambulance going to sturgeon hospital in Edmonton with gallbladder extracted, I will expose doctor on call after my recovery as he clearly put my life at risk

I understand it can take a while to get into the ER but the way they do it is just straight disrespectful. I had a very high fever and body pain every, I went there at 2 am and there were only 2 people who came there before me. I had to wait 4 hours which felt like a torture, imagine being really sick, with no sleep and having to wait all that time on a uncomfortable bench. I got a room number at around 5: 45, I went in and waited over 2 hours and nobody showed up, I could barely walk but I still went to the nurse and asked if I was in the right room since nobody was there, she rudely replied “it takes a while, the doctor is busy”. I went back and waited another 30 minutes until my dad came to pick me up and brought me back home because I felt like passing out and I couldn’t wait there no more. As I said I know it can take a while but you can’t just treat people like that. I still have a very high fever and it keeps getting worse, but I’m not going back there.

Clean, new. Easy to find, buildings well marked.much more stream lined. Ample parking. Parkade has a second floor walk way. Of course, line-up in emergency at peak times.
31 May 2022 16:57
This has been my worst experience. I’m sitting in the hospital with an asthma attack, my chest is hurting and sore can hardly breathe and the nurse is going to say there’s no urgency so I just have to wait until my name is called because it is not an emergency as my vitals are good. My blood pressure is high because I’m having breathing issues and in pain. And you are going to tell me I’m ok because your machine says my vitals are good. I can’t breathe at all and people who have less symptoms and are ok are being seen.
29 May 2022 1:53
The ER and triage here is a disorganized mess, I sure hope someone at the hospital reads these. My coworker was sat down in the waiting room with trouble breathing, and the triage nurses just forgot about him, he was there for 3 hours without anyone even doing an initial assessment. I had to finally speak up and complain to have him assessed.
While in the waiting room I spoke with parents who brought in their toddlers who had fevers and were told it would be at least 4 hours to see a doctor.
I get that there’s a lot going on behind the scenes but when are they going to do something in GP to fix the problems, everyone I talk to just says oh yeah I just drive to beaver lodge hospital and get right in, why is this such an ongoing issue. It’s been like this for the 15 years I’ve lived here, non stop horror stories about our hospitals, and the exorbitant amount of money dumped into building this new fancy facility, as if it’s going to help anything when they’re understaffed, or the staff don’t even want to be here.
17 May 2022 4:56
ER triage, admission and waiting area are a hot mess of chaos. Which skates by because of the Goodwill of most Canadians.

After spending three and a half hours waiting for triage (and having 7-8 people cut in front of me)

The obese admissions lady decided to intrude into a pleasant and a private conversation amongst some of us. From the other side of the waiting room. (No one asked you for your opinion on the other side of the plexiglass).

Peace officers aren't following covid protocol.

Admission staff aren't following protocol.

Some hospital staff room protocol.

Sure the CDC has even said masks don't work.

But as long as everyone else is keeping up with theatrics hypocrisy is okay.

When a patient points out your hypocrisy you decide to bully them with threats of force from peace officers.

0/10 for helping out an emergency responder patiently waiting in the ER.

Both ER admin staff members should be retrained (March 19,12-430PM). And encouraged to set an example by their own actions. (and follow their own rules)

After four and a half hours I left without treatment. That's the real #Canada Sick care. (I'll probably self diagnose, buy antibiotics on the secondary market.)

My Mother was sent up to the hospital by ambulance because she had a heart rate of only 30 beats per minute. The so called Doctor sent her home because he didn’t want to be bothered. The Doctor said they don’t do pacemakers during the holidays so he sent my mother home to die. Something needs to be done with this hospital who’s ever at the top running it needs to be fired and these fake doctors need to be fired. It’s so scary if you go up there with a life threatening problem and one of these fake doctors is on you are in trouble.

I went there for delivery, my C-section was planned for the next day, but the baby came in a day before, the nurses were pretty good and so helpful, then They get me into the C-section as fast as they can, doctors were so professional & nice, tried to keep me calm as much as they can.
Delivery went so smooth. And my baby came safe
I stayed 2 days there after, and everything was good as well.
Rooms are so clean.

Our 5 year old was brought here by ambulance after a head injury. Ambulance people and Dr.and nurses were beyond amazing. Thank you for your excellent care for our son.
